Advantages: pretty pink glittery gel, smells absolutely gorgeous, effective as a shower gel
Disadvantages: expensive, not so good as a shampoo
I love Lush's bubble bars and their bath items are my favourite treats. Every year Lush have various seasonal releases, and Snow Fairy is one of the products that I look forward to buying at Christmas time. Forget the Coca-Cola lorry advert, I always get the Christmas feeling when I see that Snow Fairy has been released in the Lush stores! This is one of the most popular Lush items and I've only just finished using up my bottle from last year as I like to try and make it last until I can buy a replacement. Snow Fairy shower gel is available to buy from the Lush high street stores, via mail order, or online at www.lush.co.uk. It costs £3.50 for a 100g bottle, £6.25 for a 250g bottle and £10.25 for a 500g bottle.
Product description: "Our winter temptress shower hair and body gel that's bursting with fruit fragrance and has a sparkle of ice through it. Now we must confess, it's a mystery to us why this one particular product should become our No1 Christmas bestseller. It's not your classic hippy dippy Lush herbal offering. Instead it is an intensely sweet, fruity pink shower gel loved by people everywhere."
The shower gel comes in a clear plastic bottle which allows the product to show through. This is good because it allows you to see exactly how much you have left. The bottle has a plastic flip top lid and you have to tilt the bottle up and squeeze it to dispense the gel. I've purchased varying sizes of this shower gel before, and had no problems with the larger bottles. However, with the smallest 100g size bottle I find that I have to squeeze the bottle REALLY hard to have any effect, and this can make it a bit difficult to get the product out sometimes. Previously the Snow Fairy gel was packaged with the standard Lush black label and white lettering, but it's recently had a makeover and now has a garish pink and yellow label which doesn't fit in with the rest of Lush's products, and I personally think it looks quite tacky and unattractive.
This shower gel is the girliest looking thing I have ever seen. It is a lovely shade of pink and is loaded with shiny purple-blue glitter particles. The glitter is only for fun and doesn't seem to have any effect when I'm using the product as it doesn't remain on my skin or leave any glittery finish behind. I love the way that this shower gel looks, and this is a big part of the appeal as it is so pretty and really stands out against other shower products. The gel has a nice thick consistency and foams up nicely when used with a puffy sponge. I tend to use it quite sparingly and it creates a nice lather which spreads gently across the skin. When used as a shower gel this works exactly as I would expect, and completely cleanses my skin to leave it feeling refreshed. I've taken the smaller size bottle on weekends away with me as it can also be used as a shampoo, and this helps to reduce the number of products that I'm packing into my luggage. I would say that it is not well suited to being used as a shampoo, at least on my hair type. It does get my hair clean but it is very drying and leaves my hair prone to tangling as it does not provide the nourishing boost that my colour treated hair requires to keep it in good condition.
The best thing about Snow Fairy is undeniably its fabulous fragrance, and if you love sweet things then this will be right up your street! I find the scent to be very comforting and relaxing which is just what I want as I like my beauty products to feel like a pampering treat. It smells of candy floss and pear drops, and makes you feel like you're in a sweetie shop thanks to the rich sweet and fruity tones. The fragrance is very strong and lasts noticeably on the skin for some time after washing with it, and it also lasts for a long time if you're using it to wash your hair, giving a waft of sweet smelling perfume that helps to extend the enjoyment of using this shower gel.
Snow Fairy is definitely a star product from Lush and it makes a lovely gift especially for Christmas time. It is rather expensive compared to other brands but the scent is completely unique and I always like to treat myself to a bottle of it when it hits the shop. Highly recommended for its intended use as a shower gel, although it doesn't measure up when using it on my hair. The Snow Fairy scent has been used for other products including a Solid Perfume, and a Lip Tint. There is also the Snow Fairy gift set which costs £11.95 and contains the Snow Fairy shower gel, Angels Delight soap, and Shimmy Shimmy Glitter Bar.
