Lush Sunny Side Bubble Bar
Advantages: Makes water all swirly and pretty.
Disadvantages: Cost. Not much scent.
Anyone who has spent any time on this site could not have failed to have read at least one Lush product review during their time on here. My nearest branch is the one in Birmingham, which I don't really visit very often, as I only tend to go into Birmingham when the kids are on school hols. After reading all the great reviews on Dooyoo however, I couldn't walk past the store on a recent visit to Brum with the kiddies.
The gorgeous smell of the shop beckoned us in, and we surveyed the shelves excitedly. I told the kids that they could have one product each. My little 5 year old son went for the Pop in the Bath bubble bar, while my 7 year old daughter greedily grabbed the Sunny Side bar ( the name reminded my of Toy Story 3!). Before we even got to the till, her hands were covered in gold glitter, which she smeared all over her cheeks. The bar cost £3.30, which wasn't the cheapest product in the shop, but had sparked my curiosity as well as hers.
The bar was a solid bar with a bit of a grainy feel to it, which felt as if it would crumble quite easily if much pressure was applied to it. The whole thing was covered in gold glitter, which made me wonder whether my daughter was going to come out of the bath looking like that lady in the Goldfinger movie!
The sign in the store said that the bar was best used fresh, so we chucked it straight in the tub when we got home. I had never used the bubble bars before and was a bit dissappointed that it didn't fizz madly like the bath bombs and ballistics. It slowly eked golden swirls into the bathwater, melting very slowly. The water looked really beautiful, with gorgeous sandy golden glittery swirls that caused the water to turn completely opaque and we couldn't see the bottom of the bath. The bar did not produce a vast amount of bubbles, and did not have much scent. In fact the scent was pretty disappointing, reminding me of that cheap soap that you get in school loos.
The bar did not disintegrate completely, and I was able to fish it out of the tub, to use next time. I wish Lush had provided more information about how to use the bar, as i presumed you used the whole thing in one go, but apparently (thanks Dooyoo), you can cut them up into smaller pieces to use one at a time. This makes them more economical to use than the ballistics.
The bar softened the water and felt lovely and silky on my daughter's delicate skin. She loved her golden bath and had no adverse effects from the bar, and luckily, was not covered in glitter when she got out! This bar would make a lovely gift for someone (very cheap golden wedding present!), as it looks divine and really is a special treat. The two things that let it down are the cost and the fact that it doesn't have much scent.
Summary: A decadent treat and a special gift.
