Lush Sunny Side Bubble Bar
Advantages: Lemon scented, lots of bubbles
Disadvantages: Not much glitter, price.
I have used a few Lush bubble bars now and love how they make my skin feel soft and smooth, as well as give me lots of bubbles. I had yet to use a bubble bar that I didn't like or didn't really work and so when this glittery bar caught my eye in my local Lush store I wanted it straight away.
Lush state this will turn your bath to shimmering liquid gold.
Just as it appears in the image above, it is covered in gold glitter and so very messy when you pick it up. I then noticed on the sign that it states the bubble bar includes the sunny fragrance of tangerine, lemon and sweet wild orange... my favourite scents! I had already decided to buy it but a shop assistant still came over to try and sell the product to me. This usually annoys me as I like to look and smell them for myself but as she started breaking one up and placing it in a jug of water to show me how it worked, I was keen to watch.
She broke a small amount off the bar and crumbled it into the water, her hands were covered in glitter. She had two jugs of water and was pouring the water from one to the other to create the bubbles. I noticed straight away that the water had turned a gold/yellow colour and when the water started to sit still you could clearly see the glitter in it too. I couldn't wait to try it but thought I would keep it and use it before a night out, as with some other Lush products that contain glitter, it very easily stays on your skin after the bath.
~ My Experience ~
Now for when I came to use it... as with all bubble bars from Lush I always snap them up and only use a half or maybe even less depending on the size of the bar. I decided to use half of this Sunny Side one. I snapped it in half over the bath to ensure that all glitter or crumbly bits fell into it and not anywhere else, as it is quite messy. If you do plan on snapping a bubble bar then always do it with dry hands, then keep the other half in a dry place until you come to use it.
I then crumbled the half I was using under the tap slowly. Straight away the colour of the water changed to a light gold/yellow shade. I wouldn't say it was the prettiest of colours to have in a bath but I thought the glitter would eventually make it look even better.
I left my bath to run for a while then when I went back to it there was a mountain of bubbles, just how I like it. Lush bubble bars have never disappointed me with the amount of bubbles you get from them and just how long they last in your bath too.
As for the scent, the lemon really overpowered the orange. I like orange scents but the lemon was really nice still and so I wasn't too disappointed. In my opinion the scents you get from the bubble bars are never as strong as what you get from the Lush bath bombs and often turn out quite different to what you originally smell when the bars are dry and haven't been in water yet.
The colour of the bath water was still a yellow colour however I was quite disappointed with the lack of glitter. I thought it would be easily noticeable like it was when the shop assistant tested the product out in the shop, but it wasn't. I think the fact that the water was yellow would have made it harder for me to see the gold glitter too, especially amongst all of the bubbles! It does make me think now though that you should never expect it to be as it is in the small jugs in the Lush stores when they test the products for you. They will probably be using quite a big chunk and in just a small jug of water it will have good effects, but compared to a full bath tub, it's just not the same.
There was glitter in there though as when I did get out of the bath I noticed some on my skin, but not enough for it to stand out for a night out.
~ Conclusion ~
I do think I built my hopes up too much with this bubble bar. I was expecting a very glittery and orangey scented bath but instead got a yellow looking lemon scented one. I cannot complain about the bubbles as it did create more than enough and they lasted ages, I actually felt guilty when I was getting out of the bath as there was still so many left! I usually get out of the bath when the bubbles have vanished.
To get the amount of glitter and scent I was hoping for I might have to use a whole bubble bar in one bath, but this would make it an expensive purchase as one 100g bar costs £3.50.
If you like lemon fragrance and lots of bubbles then I would recommend this product, but if you are hoping for a glittery bath then don't build your hopes up, as it really wasn't how Lush describe it. I would recommend getting a bath bomb or bubble bar that contains glitter on the inside and not the outside, as they seem to work. You can always ask the staff which ones contain glitter and they might even show you how it works!
Summary: An OK bubble bar but don't purchase if you want it purely just for the glitter!
