Lush Sunny Side Bubble Bar
Advantages: A nice enough scent and lots of bubbles
Disadvantages: Muddy coloured water and a dirty bath
Lush - Sunnyside Bubble bar
This simple shaped very glittery orange and golden coloured bubble bar in a sort of rounded mound shape has been one I have avoided up till now as I didn't really fancy getting covered in glitter. I had enough glitter from Christmas cards when teaching as children just love glitter and the entire room gets covered ion it, you find it in the strangest places week s later. Glitter has never really been something I have been pulled towards but in the interest of trying all Lush's creations I had to buy this.
WHAT LUSH SAY
It is sold as a 100g bar for the price of £3.65 and Lush markets this as "Join us on the sunny side of the street with this molten gold bath of bubbles. Perfect for grey days when you wish for a bit of sparkle in your life. This bubble bar is your pot of gold from the end of the rainbow, as it melts into the water and turns your bath to shimmering liquid gold. "
They have also packed it full of " bright, uplifting oils that will help you keep your face towards the Sunnyside and let the shadows fall behind."
So I had high hopes for a lovely uplifting scent and then emerging from my bath feeling that the sun was shining and blue skies were above despite the cold and grey ones that were there in reality.
WHAT IS A BUBBLE BAR?
Just in case anyone has not tried a Lush bubble bar, the idea is that you crumble the bar as your bath is filling and then enjoy a huge mountain of luxuriously softening and moisturising scented bubbles.
I stored this in my knicker drawer for a week or two to enjoy the wonderful citrus smell scenting my undies first and hoping that not too much glitter would seep oiut. I did keep it in its bag as i really didn't want glitter all through my clothes. I keep all my Lush soaps and bubble bars in my drawers as that way I never by any drawer scented liners and my clothes always have a "Lushious "smell about them.
Another tip is to pack a few bubble bars, soaps or ballistics in your suitcase when you go away. That way you have a treat with you and your clothes smell of Lush rather than or aircraft which is not such a great smell.
The scent in this one is mainly citrus with orange and lemon but creamy rather than really freshly citrus. More like lemon sorbet than lemon drink or lemonade rather than freshly squeezed lemon. Every time you touch the bar you get gold glitter on you so be careful how much you handle it and when you put it.
The scent is quite strong in the dry state and also quite strong in the bath. When I crumbled a third of this bar into my bath it was still quite fresh so nice and soft and it crumbled easily. Usually I can get two or three baths from one bar so three in this case even though it wasn't that big I find that too many bubbles is actually a pain in the bath.
I sat and watched as the bubbles began to grow and sniffed in. My nose filled with the sweet orange and fresh lemon scent filled the bathroom. Our bathroom and our bedroom was now filled a wonderful aroma which reminds me of orchards in Spain filled with orange and lemon blossom.
BUBBLES AND GLITTER
Okay wonderful evocative orchard scent but what about the bubbles. Well I had a lovely creamy soft bubbly bath with rather odd muddy coloured water. My bath had lots of bubbles and they were abundant and thick as they normally are when I treat myself to one of these. Bear in mind the price of £3.65 I don't think I'm being unreasonable in expecting at least three baths from that.
Let's move on to how it feels in the bath. Once again I was not disappointed as the water felt creamy and soft and I needed no soap or other cleaning agent I just soaked in the bath and lay back with my eyes closed imagining I was walking through an orange orchard in the sun .I enjoyed the caressing smooth feel of the moisturised water warmingly soothing my tired joints and oozing into my dried old skin!
The glitter struggled to show through the bubbles when I was in the bath but I did notice the occasional sparkle on me.
WHAT IS IN THIS BAR?
What are the benefits of this bar in terms of essential oils?
Lemon oil: This is antiseptic, cleansing and fungicidal and can also be used in aromatherapy for its uplifting aroma.
Sweet orange oil: This beautifully scented oil is one of my favourites and is known for its qualities of being an antidepressant and it is also anti-inflammatory, a sedative and a natural antiseptic. One of the main benefits is that it also helps look after and rebuild the collagen formation in the skin.
Tangerine oil: Aroma therapists use Tangerine and indeed mandarin oils for stress relief and also these oils help to improve the condition of the skin and to help insomnia.
The sodium bicarbonate and tartaric acid make the water soft and do not really cause any harm or side effects.
Less desirable ingredients:
The less desirable sodium laureth sulfate is there to make the bubbles. This has been linked to cancer so if this bothers you then I suggest you have a look at this article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_laureth_sulfat e
AFTER MY BATH
I said that the water was not the most attractive colour being a sort of slightly muddy looking colour in my mind but once the water had been let out of the bath i was left with a very definite pale orange sludge on the bottom. If you just let the bath out and then go to bed the next morning you will be greeted with a very unpleasant sight and a bath that takes some cleaning off. This does somewhat take the edge off the relaxing bath for me and i do prefer not to have any residue left behind for me to clean.
So all in all what do I think? I liked the smell of this one but was less thrilled with the water colour and the bath the next day. The bath of bubbles was lovely creamy soft and relaxing but I am not so fussed on the glitter so this is not one I will be buying again.

Summary: Might be glittery but not the best from lush
