A beautifully fragranced bath product from the Marks and Spencer China Blue range

I enjoy shopping at Marks and Spencer for some of my toiletries, particularly as they offer a huge range; the majority of which are very affordable. Approximately seven years ago I fell in love with their China Blue fragrance, which carried an array of different products such as shower gels, liquid and soap bars, hand wash, bathing products and body creams and lotions. However, after using the products for a good few years I was bitterly disappointed to discover that the entire range had been discontinued.

However, whilst browsing the toiletries aisles in the Cardiff store several months ago, I was delighted to see a limited range of China Blue products had returned to the shelves. I learned from a sales assistant that they were trialling some of the products in some of the larger stores and dependent on how it sold Marks and Spencer would decide whether to reintroduce the entire range. Fearing that the products would soon disappear I found myself stock piling a number of my favourites with this review discussing my experience with using the Foaming Bath Essence.

We are provided with 500 ml of bath essence, which is presented in a luxurious shaped cylindrical sturdy plastic bottle; the appearance of which mirrors the entire China Blue range with its white background and eye catching images of swirls of blue flowers. The bottle offers a contemporary appearance and is far superior to other brands with its stunning touches of calligraphy depicting the product name. It is evident that considerable thought has been given to the design of the bottle, even down to the chunky T-shaped lid, which creates a touch of luxury.

Whilst I do not generally favour blue bathing products due to the fact that store value brands always opt for the colour, it is the aroma that totally won me over when I initially tried the brand around seven years ago. Unfortunately, both the name China Blue and the product appearance do not enable the consumer to identify the stunning scent, which contains a beautiful blend of precious jasmine, ylang ylang, generanium and rose. I must admit that I am not generally a fan of rose fragrances, as they can often be too cloying and a little old fashioned. However, it is the inclusion of both jasmine and ylang ylang that perfectly compliment the rose where they create an aroma similar to that of clean, fresh linen.

The lid is easily unscrewed with the thick vivid blue contents being easily dispensed into a bath of running water where only a small amount is required. Within seconds, plentiful white fluffy bubbles are created with the stunning aroma significantly intensifying and filling my bathroom. This is an extremely positive point as far as I am concerned, as my recent experiences of bubble baths have been pretty poor, as whilst they initially offer a scent, it soon disperses within seconds of being added to the bath water.

Lowering my body into the soft and creamy bath water is pure pleasure, as there are mountains of soft fluffy bubbles that envelop themselves around my skin and despite introducing soap to the water they remain perfectly intact, as opposed to popping, which is normally the case with many other brands, which cannot cope with soap. Whilst I live in a soft water area, the bath essence delivers an additional softness to my bath water and as a result, offers me an indulgent and luxurious bathing experience. The only issue I find is that if I have added a little too much of the product, I am ages attempting to swish the remaining bubbles down the plug hole.

The scent transfers to my skin, which is a point I find extremely favourable and I cannot speak of suffering any adverse effects such as dryness. As I like to layer this gorgeous fragrance I use the matching talcum powder following my evening bath, which enables the scent to remain evident until the following morning. I have looked online for a price, but at the time of writing, the Marks and Spencer website is out of stock. However, if my memory serves me correct I believe I paid around £2.50 and as the 500 ml bottle lasts around eight weeks with bathing every night, it represents excellent value for money.

As you have no doubt guessed, I can highly recommend China Blue Foaming Bath Essence, as it is such a stunning feminine scent without being too overpowering. As a result, it receives five stars from me. I can also recommend the other toiletries within the China Blue range, which enable you to layer the gorgeous aroma.

I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
