For Christmas I received a Marc Jacobs Lola gift set containing the perfume and matching products, one of which was the shower gel. I have been using this on and off since Christmas and thought I would share my thoughts.
The shower gel is suitable for all skin types and Marc Jacobs say 'Lola captures an irresistible sexy confidence, the essence of a modern free-spirit with a playful attitude.' These manufacturers descriptions really make me laugh, that's a lot for a scent to do!
The shower gel comes in a dark purple tube with what looks like a multi-coloured blotch on the front, but what is actually supposed to represent the flower which acts as the lid for the Lola perfume bottle. The 75ml tube that comes in gift sets has a screw top cap, which is hugely impractical, but I believe the full size has a flip top lid. I should also mention that the tube is virtually identical to the body lotion, which can be a slight issue when I'm bleary eyed in the mornings - the only thing to distinguish between them is the tiny writing on the front, which is barely readable.
The shower gel itself is relatively thick and has a sort of pearly sheen to it, which almost makes it look silver. The scent (which I will come to) is immediately evident once it's been dispensed and it creates a good lather. I have found the product to have quite a silky feel when it's massaged into the skin, so it does feel a bit more luxurious to use, than your average two quid bottle from the supermarket.
The smell of the shower gel is an exact match for the perfume. You might think that is a given, but in the past I've found that with a lot of fragrance gift sets the matching scents don't actually match very well.
If you're not familiar with the Lola fragrance, then I'd describe it as a light, sweet floral scent with a slightly fruity tang to it. A quick look online tells me that this contains notes of peony and fuchsia, as well as vanilla, pear, pink peppercorn and ruby grapefruit. That sounds quite a mix, but the overall fragrance to me is beautiful - very soft and feminine. It is not really the sort of fragrance I'd choose, but I was pleased to receive it as a gift, as it's a very wearable daytime scent.
After use, my skin has a soft, skin feels soft and smooth and with a silky sort of feeling to it. The fragrance lingers gently on my skin too, but it is quite subtle and I think others would only smell it if they were really close up to you. I tend to add either the body lotion, perfume (or both) on top to layer the scent and make it a bit stronger.
If purchased individually, the price of this product varies. It seems that generally it costs between £20 and £23 for a 150ml tube. You will find it in most of the big department stores such as House of Fraser and Debenhams. It usually works out better value to buy this sort of product as part of a gift set, especially if you can manage to get one in the sales.
Overall, I am pleased with this shower gel, but I would not be tempted to pay the full price for it. It leaves my skin feeling really lovely and has a gorgeous fragrance. It is a bit of a shame that the intensity of the fragrance is poor once it's rinsed off and I do think £20 is extortionate, so although I'd like to use this again, I certainly wouldn't buy another one at that price.
