I learned an important lesson about life - and husbands - from my Molton Brown Paradisiac Pink Pepperpod shower gel. My very lovely life companion knew that I loved the Molton Brown black pepper products and I think he went to the shop to buy some and got ‘up-sold’ into not just three bottles of the black pepper, but an additional three bottles of the pink pepperpod shower gel. This was about three years ago. I’m still using the first of the pink pepperpod bottles and I’ve had to tell him not to buy any more.
It’s generous of him and I wouldn’t want to put him off buying me expensive presents but the Paradisiac Pink Pepperpod is just a bit too overpowering for me. After I use it I smell of it a bit too strongly for many hours and my bathroom still smells of it the next day. If you want powerful product, then this is one of those. If you want to still be able to put on perfume and not have your shower gel fight with the smell of every other product you use, then take care - this is seriously over-powering.
I like most Molton Brown shower gels and I really love some of them but sadly this isn’t one of the ‘love’ products.
I’ve written in great detail on this site about what pink pepperpod smells like and just how ‘unpink’ it really is. My phrase - if I remember correctly - was ‘more punk than pink’. If pink to you means flowery, girly, dainty and feminine, then think again. The top notes are pink pepper and tangerine though I doubt you’ll spot the tangerine as it’s rather left in the shadow by the pepper. The heart notes are ginger (which is noticeable) and cistus flower. I don’t know what cistus flower should smell like. The base notes are overwhelmingly patchouli which is too ‘stoned hippy’ a smell to appeal to me.
In use it foams up very well on a shower puff and it cleans beautifully. My skin is left soft and the scent more than lingers - it seems to cling to everything like life depends upon it. For me this is a ‘now and then’ shower gel not an every day one. Even if it were cheaper - it’s not, it’s expensive stuff - I still couldn’t use it all the time
The brand-Molton Brown pride theirselves on being bath, body and beauty connoisseurs. If this product is anything to go by then I would certainly support this comment. I love the fact that their products are representative of a genuine British brand, I am proud of anything of this high quality that is designed and produced in Britain.
The product-This product is one example of Molton Brown's multi-functional products, this one in particular suited for the shower or the bath. This scent is by far one of my favourites, although at first I was a little unsure about the spicy undertones. Once accustomed to it though I adore the distinct and warm scent. As the scent is not overly floral, it could be carried off as a unisex product although I would not let my husband anywhere near it for him to waste in the shower. The product is certainly a luxury product that I try to save for a steaming hot bubble bath. I have tried many different bath foam/gel products and whilst running a bath the scent is at it's strongest, this scent is often much diluted once the bath is done and wears off even quicker when you have gotten out. Molton Brown seem to have harnessed an ability to make the scent last!! The gorgeous smell will literally fill your entire bathroom while you wait for the copious amounts of bubbles to form and will continue to linger on your skin for hours after your bath. It is very hard not to get heavy handed when pouring the luxury liquid into the bath but with a brand such as this less is definitely more. A capful of the gel is enough to generate sufficient bubbles for a sumptuous bath. I gather that this scent is relatively new for Molton Brown and it seems that other products with the scent are becoming available. It is hard to fault the quality of this product and supports the opinion that Molton Brown deserves its place alongside other premium brands.
The Price-at a retail price of £17.50 it has a premium price tag to match the premium brand image. Is it worth the cost?? For a little bit of luxury in my opinion yes it is. No other product that I have come across can match this in terms of scent and quality. It is also surprising how long a full size bottle will last. The price does make it an attractive luxury gift purchase, needless to say my family are quite aware of the right items to buy me for Christmas! Around the festive season it is not uncommon to see this item available in gift sets or available in a smaller size (the smaller bottles are perfect for travel!) I have yet to meet anyone who would not be pleased with a gift from Molton Brown so if your are looking to purchase this for someone else I don't think you can go wrong!
Molton Brown has never been a skincare/bathing range which I was particularly interested in, as it is quite pricey and didn't look that exciting. However I was pleased to receive a gift set from my mum last Christmas, as she had chosen shower gel and body lotion, both products which I use, and they were a very pretty pink colour.
I didn't look at the name of the fragrance at first, I just saw that the shower gel was a nice deep pink in colour and assumed that I would like it. When I did spot that the fragrance was called Paradisiac Pink Pepperpod, I was a bit baffled. I had no idea what Pink Pepperpod was, never mind the Paradisiac variant...
The shower gel comes in a sturdy plastic bottle, which is clear to allow you to see the shower gel, and has some molding around the "shoulders" of the bottle, which looks like it is part of the Molton Brown branding. The bottle has the Molton Brown logo and the name of the product on the front. The lid is a very useful push-down type, in a nice silver plastic, much more practical than a screw top lid. The lid is easy to depress, and the shower gel is easy to dispense. It isn't too thin and runny, but as I approach the end of the bottle I'm not having to stand it on its top to ensure the gel gets down to the lid, and I'm quite sure that I'll be able to get every drop out of the bottle.
The shower gel lathers up well, which is great - nothing worse than a bubble free shower gel, no matter how well it cleans. I use it on a shower puff sponge, but it would lather fine on your hands too. And as for that Paradisiac Pink Pepperpod fragrance, well...it's really quite nice, although I suspect I would never have chosen it myself based on the name. It is peppery, but subtlely so - at first I thought it was more like a men's shower gel fragrance than a woman's, but once you get over the surprise of a peppery shower gel, it is actually quite feminine. It leaves my skin very lightly fragranced, and of course very clean. Over the four months or so that I've been using it, my skin has not been dry.
I've enjoyed using the Molton Brown Paradisiac Pink Pepperpod shower gel, and for an average sized bottle it has lasted me longer than I wuld expect. Sadly however it is not something I will be buying for myself once I run out - at £18, it really is overpriced. It is lovely and it's a great shower gel, but I really don't think any shower gel is worth that.
HAving a little break from the medicine Reviews, so thought I may as well write about my love of Shower Gels. I got this as part of a gift set, and knew that it would have cost a fair amount as the brand name is qutie expensive and a brand name. I got a few miniture Shower Gels and other products.
After looking online the standard size of bottles are 300ml and seems that these cost around £17-£19. For a Shower Gel? Yes, but it is a nice Shower Gel and 1 I would buy again if I could certainly afford it.
The bottle for this doesn't look all that fancy, but it is the 1 of those kind of simple looking bottles that also looks quite expensive in a way. This is just a plastic bottle which is quite wide. It is a clear plastic and you can see the light pink Gel through the bottle easy enough. There is a nice enough pattern on here and it again is simple but it's not all flashy or colourful. Just simple looking and classy enough. The polished silver lid looks nice as well, and it all goes together well enough.
The Gel in here is quite thick and a little of this on a Shower Puff goes a long way. This lathers up well and provides lots of little fine Bubbles. You get the scent of this straight away when you take the lid off this and it is a really nice scent. It is a fresh and slightly sparkling scent and this has a nice Juicy scent mixed through as well. There is a slight "Nippy" scent but what I mean by that is the Peppered kind of scent from the Peppercorns. So there is a slight Hot scent in here, but not all that much.
After washing with this my skin is clean, smells fresh and although not hugely Moisturised, there is a slight softness to it.
A really good Shower Gel, just a pity this is so expensive.
My partner loves this stuff, I have a bathroom filled with Molton Brown products, I often find myself reaching for them... Im not scared to get in touch with my feminine side. ;) She buys it because Molton brown are strongly against testing on animals and becaus they champion production in the UK.... in her opinion the premium price tag is worth the fact that it secures jobs in the UK and doesnt hurt animals.
Personally I accept that Molton Brown is pretty expensive for something you're just washing yourself with, but If you look out on amazon they have deals on various products, and we tend to just try the products that are on offer, this particular one was about £13+ packaging when my partner bought it.
We have two of these at the moment, one in the bath, one in the shower. It works wonderfully as either showergel or bubblebath, although in the shower if you dont wash it off carefully you can get a bit red looking from all the soapyness. There is also 2 other products in the range, I cant remember what they are but If I recall, there is a bodylotion and a kind of.... cream for the bath.. Which I was not so fond of.
I think the main thing I like about these is that they are really gently scented, unlike the cheap products that absolutely STINK the bathroom out with citrus smells that belong like they belong in a toilet cleaner. This product smells kind of flowery, but has a slight..... peppery/chilly kind of smell, its really subtle, but detectable.
Overall, I think everyone should treat themselves to some luxury products, it makes you feel good knowing you feel worthwhile enough to treat yourself to something nice. Maybe not an everyday essential, but certainly an occasional guilty pleasure.
I bought a 300ml bottle of Molton Brown Pink Pepperpod Bath and Shower Gel from Amazon for £16.99.
The item, like the rest of the Molton Brown range, is of a very high quality and smells really nice. It smells sort of peppery in a pleasant and fresh way. I have tried it both as a bubble bath, where i found it foamed nicely and the scent stayed on my body for a long time afterwards, and in the shower where i found it lathered really well and I did not need to use a large amount to cover my whole body.
Although it is expensive for bath and shower gel it is a premium product and, as the latest fragrance from the Molton brown range, one that I keep as a treat that I know will smell contemporary and compliment my perfume on nights out.
The packaging is smart and will look good in either traditional or contemporary bathrooms, and you'll be the envy of all you friends when they see it.

Paradisiac pink pepperpod bath and shower gel is one of the three products available in the paradisiac pink pepporpod range, which also includes body lotion and bathing milk. The bath & shower gel is sold in 300ml bottle and currently retails for £17.00 a bottle. The product contains warm pink pepperpods from the Gulf of Guinea , spiced aromatic oils of Aftrica, ginger and patchouli and has been blended to cleanse skin and protect from environmental pollutants and to reawaken your energy banks. It is described by Molton Brown as being 'designed to give a rich luxurious lather and leave the skin feeling and looking great'.
The product comes packaged in a clear plastic bottle with little raised bobbles around the top which make it instantly recognisable as a Molton Brown product. And the top is silver with Molton Brown embossed on it. Through the clear plastic you can see the bath and shower gel which is a gorgeous pinky colour. The packaging is but a really luxurious look and feel.
Directions for use
The product is suitable for use both in bath and shower. To use in the shower massage over damp skin and rinse off. To use in the bath add 20 - 30 mls into warm running water.
I rarely use this product in the shower, the average shower only lasts a few minutes and it seems such a waste to me. I much prefer to use in the bath where I can have a good old soak and really enjoy the product. Molton Brown advise to add 20 - 30 mls per bath and I find that 20 mls is quite adequate. When poured under running water the gel creates a lovely rich foam and the most gorgeous smell that fills the whole bathroom. The product has a very exotic warm spicy smell to it, quite feminine with a definite hint of pepper. After bathing the skin is left beautifully soft and moisturised with a really nice but subtle smell which lasts for hours.
The only downside to this product is the price, at £17 a bottle it certainly isn't cheap. I suppose if using the lower of the recommended product per bath each bottle is enough for 15 baths which works out at just under £1.14 per bath, so if you look at it that way it doesn't seem so bad, least that is how I justify it to myself.
This product is pure luxury and I can not fault it - it is absolutely gorgeous. I always buy with the intention of keeping it for a special weekend treat, not for everyday use but find despite my best intentions I use it most nights as ordinary bubble bath simply does not compare. Highly recommended.
