“ Brand: Original Source / Texture: Cream / Type: Shower Gel / Suitable for: Body „
I love my Lush shower gels, but I am also attracted by other brands every now and then. One brand which has caught my eye in the past is Original Source: their products are widely available in supermarkets, Boots, Superdrug and other stores and are excellent value for money. I obtained this 250ml shower gel for just over £1 on special offer. The brand is also known for using natural ingredients and being better for the environment than many other brands: it is suitable for vegans and has been made with 100% natural fragrances.
This product was released as a special edition for the winter season last year and I loved the concept. Almond and black cherry are two scents I really like and together they remind me of Bakewell tarts. The shower gel is a luscious deep red colour, shown off to great effect in the clear plastic bottle.
This shower gel is easy to use owing to the flip-top base. It isn't too thick, and though it is easy to squeeze it out of the container, it doesn't run out. It lathers up very well on my shower puff, and I don't need to use loads, although I do use more than with my Lush shower gels. The gel smells lovely: the combination of cherry and almond is sweet and comforting and wafts around the shower while I am in there.
Though the shower gel isn't moisturising, I find it is fairly gentle on my skin and doesn't dry it out or cause me any irritation. Unfortunately the smell doesn't really last on my skin after my shower, which is a bit of a shame, but I use body lotion anyway, and that has a scent of its own.
I highly recommend this special winter shower gel: it's unusual, sweet and comforting, and bargainous too!
I'm relatively alright for money at the minute but am not the richest, and so am still trying to make savings as often as possible. One of the ways that I cut back a bit is by not spending as much on shower products as I used to. I used to frequent Lush quite often but due to their relatively high prices I've had to switch to buying cheaper brands. Original Source is a brand that I've been happy to use for quite a while now, and have only bought shower gels from them since I moved back to the UK last summer. I've tried four or five different shower gels and this is the one that I'm currently using after having bought it just before Christmas last year.
Original Source Almond and Black Cherry Shower Gel
This shower gel is, fairly obviously, almond and black cherry scented. It comes in a container akin to all other Original Source gels - a plastic bottle that narrows at the top and opens at the bottom. This means that it's easy to get as much shower gel out of the bottom of the container as possible and there is little wastage. The gel comes out easily when you open the flap at the bottom so it's a very convenient shower gel to use. It also has a very nice smell and does have a definite sense of sweet almonds and cherries, kind of like a bakewell tart but not quite as sickly sweet.
What I Thought
This is a great shower gel that I have been very happy using. It smells really nice an always fills the shower with a pleasant scent that complements my coconut shampoo pretty nicely. It's easy to get gel out of the container and not too much is needed in order to wash yourself as it lathers up fairly well. I definitely feel clean after using it and since that's the main thing you want from a shower gel, I am pleased with it. This is one of the best shower gels that I've used from Original Source, even though I've been happy with their gels without exception.
As you can tell, this is a shower gel that I really like and so can highly recommend it. This is a winter seasonal edition shower gel, though, so if you want to get it you'll probably have to be quick, although it is still available on the Boots website. They're currently selling it for £2.20 but it is on buy one get one free, so this is still a good price, but Superdrug are currently doing one better by selling it for 99p without you having to buy more than one. Considering that a bottle (or container or whatever you want to call it) lasts for a couple of months, that's really good value and means you'd have to spend less than £10 per year on shower gel if you bulk bought a few of these while they're cheap. They're really nice and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, especially if you don't want to spend much on bath and shower products.
