I fancied a change from my normal shower gel recently so was excited when I saw this recently on the shelf of my local supermarket. I wanted something summery and fresh smelling so this looked perfect.
The shower gel said that it was limited edition so I bought a bottle straight away. The bottle looked great it was a lovely dark red color which I really liked the look of. The bottle was in the usual shape for this brand and very cool looking.
The shower gel was not on offer which I wasn't surprised about if it was a limited edition. It cost me £2.50 which I didn't think was too bad as I have used this brand before and they are very good quality.
When I tried the product for the first time it smelt lovely. As soon as you open the bottle you can smell it. The smell really reminds me of summer - not sure if thats because of the strawberries. I used mine on my shower puff but you don't have to I just like it because it always makes a really good lather.
The great thing is that you hardly need to use any of the gel because it lathers so well so the bottle will last you ages. The gel is easy to get out of the bottle. You can stand it on its end so that the gel runs to the part where the gel comes out which makes it easy especially when you have wet hands in the shower.
I was really impressed with the look and feel of my skin when I got out of the shower it was really moisturized and soft which is great it also smelt gorgeous for ages afterwise which I liked because it made me feel fresh and clean.
I am a regular user of Original Source products, mainly because they are Vegan friendly and not tested on animals. I got a couple of bottles of this reduced a month or so ago (perhaps because it was limited edition for the "British" year last year).
The strawberry scent is powerful when you use the gel, it does what it is supposed to - it cleans you well and smells natural. It is much better than using one of those perfume/aftershave products that are probably tested on animals first.
Usually these are priced at around £2-£3 a bottle but are almost always on offer at some retailer or supermarket for £1 or less - I suggest stocking up on the offers and not waiting until you run out thus being forced to pay an unnecessary premium.
The only negative thing I would say about it is that despite it smells so overwhelmingly like Strawberry, after you shower and dry yourself it is difficult to smell it on you! It would be nice to carry around the faint aroma of strawberry all day, perhaps I just cant smell it!
We were given some Original Source products as free samples and this strawberry one was one of them. It comes in their standard size and shape bottle and has lots of blurb on the label about how they use loads of natural ingredients etc. If you visit their website you will find it very hard to find the actual ingredients in this, all they have is more "we are so natural" blurb.... so I have got my bottle in front of me here. The list of chemicals are shocking for a company who waffle so much guff about being "natural".
Now this is one of my pet hates, a company that "greenwashes" and Original Source are on a level with The Body Shop for this. There is nowt natural about this gooey red shower gel.
I did not want to use this on my daughter due to the high levels of nasties so I used it myself.
It smells very "strawberry" and is a rich red colour. However the strawberry smell is chemical and very similar to The Body Shop's strawberry soap and shower gel. I wonder if they use the same chemicals...
It lathers well, as it should do, because it is full of SLS and foaming agents. Despite the high quantity of chemicals it did not affect my skin adversely but it probably would if I used it a lot. I decided to use the rest for hand washing clothes and cleaning the bath.
The scent is very summery and I believe that this is a limited edition product from the company. It would appeal to the masses sadly who will buy it thinking that because Original source squash one strawberry into 600 litres of junk, it is natural.
The shower gels turns the water pink due to the heavy colouring additives in the product so if you use it in the bath it takes on a bloody hue. In fact it reminds me of labouring in the bath nearly 4 years ago....(sorry for too much info)
It feels rather slimey on the skin but you do not need to use much to get lots of bubbles. This to me is not a good thing as it shows way too much SLS and assorted additives are prominant. In fact take a look at what is in it.
This list is hard to find on their site (if it is even there) and it is very damning for a company who use the "green and natural" tag at every opportunity. I had to hunt around for this:
Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Cinnamon Zeylanicum (Cinnamon) Bark Extract
Citrus Aurantium Amara (Orange) Peel Extract
Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate
Benzotriazolyl Dodecyl p-Cresol
If you like showering or washing in a toxic soup that happens to smell of strawberries then you will love this. I am very disappointed that a company such as Original Source who USED to add far less in the way of chemicals, is adding this degree of muck to their products. It is laziness. The Body Shop are as bad and Lush is even guilty of the odd chemical agent.
The only benefit to this bottle of chemicals is the fact that it is Vegan friendly and not tested on animals. Although it did not wreck my skin, I am not prepared to use something like this as anything other than a cleaner. It does clean the bath beautifully though....
PRICE: Original Source is often on offer in the bigger supermarkets and this retails for between £1-£3.
Original Source shower gels and deodorants have been around for a few years now and whenever a new range comes on the market and gets a big buzz I like to try it and have tried a few of the shower gels in the Original Source range over the last couple of years and the most recent one I have tried is this one. For those who aren't familiar with the brand they have a wide range of shower gels which contain an interesting range of mixes from the likes of the Black Pepper and Chili & Mint and Walnut varieties as well as the more standard fruity mixes like this Strawberry one which is one of the most popular shower gels in the Original Source range.
**Original Source Strawberry**
This is a lovely shower gel which has a refreshing Summery scent. Strawberries are a big part of Summer in this Country as anyone who watches the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament every year will know. The shower gel has a lovely scent right from the opening of the bottle. You get a lovely Strawberry scent which once mixed with water works really well to cleanse and soothe your skin. It works well against other shower gels on the market and also gives you a decent length of use as you don't need too much to lather a decent amount for your shower or bath. It works well for both men and women.
I recommend this shower gel to anyone who likes fruity shower gels. It leaves your skin feeling fresh and leaves a lovely subtle Strawberry scent which will combine with your deodorant well especially if it's one of the Original Source range of deodorants which are also on offer. This is one of the nicest shower gels I have recently discovered from a new to me perspective. I will certainly try some of the other original source shower gels and having owned a couple of their deodorants too I may explore more of them too. This is an excellent all round shower gel.
This is a limited addition shower gel, with a fab smell!! I know that there are other brands that's are strawberry smelling, but really this is the one that lasts! It feels nice on your body and doesn't leave that horrible slimley feeling on your body. My partner did not like it as he said it didn't lather like he wanted too, but he agreed it smelt lovely.
Finally! A vegan friendly, not tested on animals, fun, beautiful smelling shower gel - what will they think of next? Being a student, I normally go for what's on offer in the shop, but at one pound in wilkinsons, you can hardly complain, the fact that you can use it guilt free is just a bonus! It smells wonderful, and really does leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. It's just a shame that it's seasonal, and not out at Christmas. Although I admit, it does smell lovely, it doesn't really remind me of summer in any way, I was expecting a more floral smell, yet the smell of strawberries is appeasing to my nose. I would recommend this just used by women, as though it is uni-sex, It does smell quite feminine and not quite "manly" like the mint green original sources. Overall I would rate this product a 7/10, I was delightfully surprised.
A gorgeous smell, lathers quite nicely but is a very runny consistency!! U found that after I had applied the shower gel my skin was quite itchy so I only used the product in fear of it inflaming my skin. I would not advise that you use this product if you have sensitive skin and that you stick to products with less harsh chemicals and colourings.
Original Source offer a range of bath and shower products packed full of natural ingredients.
~Strawberry Shower Gel~
Original Source have released a seasonal shower gel - British Strawberry. This shower gel is vegan friendly and has not been tested on animals. It contains natural ingredients and an authentic strawberry scent.
As with other Original Source shower gels, this scent is presented in a tall, frosted plastic bottle with the flip top cap at the base. It can be identified by the Union Jack flag design on the front. The bottle can be recycled and this product has a shelf life of 12months. I find the packaging to be attractive - it looks good in my bathroom and is functional.
~Price and Availability~
I do not imagine this seasonal edition will be around for long so buy it whilst you can. A 250ml bottle retails at around £2.20 on the highstreet. Tesco currently offer it at just £1.10. It is also available in Superdrug.
I am a big fan of Original Source products and cannot resist trying out the new scents that they release. I am also a big fan of strawberries and strawberry scented treats for my body so this bottle of shower gel literally jumped off the shelf and into my trolley in Tesco recently. I knew my fiance would like this one too. I won't pay full price though as an offer can always be found somewhere!
Original Source do not make any major claims with this shower gel. Personally, I favour a nice smelling shower gel which will cleanse my skin and soften it a little if possible. This shower gel has a syrup like consistency and is red in colour as you would expect. To me, it looks like strawberry syrup that you use as a dessert topper so it is visually appealing. It lathers up fine when applied directly to damp skin but I like to get the most from a shower gel by dispensing a tiny blob onto my body puff.
The lather offered by this shower gel is light and slightly creamy. I favour rich, foamy lather to be honest. I found this shower gel to be gentle on my sensitive skin and it cleanses my skin fine - it is refreshes it a little too. The lather rinses well leaving no residue behind. My skin simply didn't feel soft or smooth when I dried off though which was disappointing. This shower gel didn't have the same moisturising properities of other Original Source shower gels I have previously used. It didn't dry my skin out further but a good body cream was needed.
The main appeal of this shower gel is the scent and this was a big hit in my home. When I had a sniff of this shower gel in Tesco, I thought I had died and went to sweet heaven! Unlike other strawberry body products, this shower gel offers a very natural, juicy and fresh strawberry scent at first. Once lathered up, the scent changes a little and reminds me of strawberry sweets and then strawberry jam - very mouthwatering and delicious. The scent does linger on my skin for a short while. I wouldn't say the scent is overly feminine so the whole family could use this.
Attractive packaging, a glorious fragrance and cleansing properties at a good price (when on offer) but the let down is definitely the lack of moisturiser. I would buy this again for that stunning, typical British scent alone but cannot award it the whole 5 stars.
Thanks for reading :)

After reading so many reviews about the Original Source products I decided to try one of their shower gel products a few months ago. I loved the strong scent of the product and the results were also brilliant so I have since decided to purchase another one of their products. Original Source makes a large range of skin care products including Shower Gel, Men's Products, Hand Wash, Bath Products and Hair Care Products. Original Source uses Natural Ingredients in their products and don't test their products on animals. They are always looking for new ingredients to use in their products and are always coming up with new products, ideas and packaging designs. Their range of products contain lots of different ingredients including Almond, Chilli, Ginger, Honey, Orange, Spearmint, Cocoa, Pineapple, Lavender, Lime, Shea Butter and more. Their products can be found in various different stores including Boots, Superdrug and some local supermarkets and shops. I have heard of Original Source products before and have seen a few of their television adverts advertising their shower products. I have used the Raspberry and Vanilla Milk shower product before and loved the delicious smell of the product and the way it made my skin felt clean and soft.

I purchased the Strawberry Shower gel which is a seasonal product in the range which means this may not be around all year to buy. I love the scent and the taste of strawberries which is why I decided to purchase this particular one (although I definitely won't be eating it!!). This product is new to the range of shower gel products and to celebrate how British strawberries are they have put a union jack on the front of the bottle. Strawberries although small, are a powerful fruit which are packed with antioxidants. The Shower gel comes in a tall bottle which is a flat square like shape which gets thinner towards to the top of the bottle. The bottle stands on its lid which is black and simply flips open to reveal a round hole in which the product can be dispensed. On the front of the product you can clearly see that it's made by Original Source and what fragrance it has. This bottle stands out slightly more than the other one's due to the large union jack which is on the front of the bottle. You can see the colour of the product through the bottle which is deep red colour. On the back of the bottle it tells you a bit of information about the product and that the product has a natural fragrance and is made in the UK. You will also find a list of ingredients, how to use the product and contact information for Original Source. You can also vote for next season's edition of Original Source product by liking their Facebook page (this is something I will definitely be doing).

I purchase this from my local Boots store for £1.50 which is for a 250ml bottle of the product. This is normally priced at £2.30 but is currently on offer, so I purchased 2 different ones. You can also purchase this online from the Boots website. I have also seen this product in Superdrug as well. Please note that prices may vary in different stores and during different times of the year. Other Shower Gel products in this range include the following:
* Almond & Black Cherry
* Raspberry & Vanilla Milk
* Shea Butter & Honey
* Lavender & Tea Tree
* Lemon & Tea Tree
* Mint & Tea Tree
Using the Product

Before using the product I decided to flip the lid open and smell the product. The product has a very sweet smell to it and does remind me of strawberries a little. I got into the shower and ensured that my skin was wet before using the product. I always used a body puff/lily when in the shower so I squeezed some of the product onto the bath lily, ready to use. I only needed to squeeze the bottle a little before some of the product came out. The shower gel was quite a bright red colour and was much brighter than it looked in the bottle. I rubbed this over my skin and the product started to create a lather which had a slight pink tinge to it. I could smell the sweet smell of the strawberries; how-ever this wasn't too strong and not as strong as the other Original Source shower gel I had used previously. I continued to wash the whole of my body. The lather felt really soft on my skin and I felt as though I was getting a really good clean. The product even turned my white bath lily a light pink colour. I stepped bath under the shower to wash the product off which rinsed off very easily. It also rinsed out of the bath lily as well and it was returned to its normal white colour. After I had rinsed the product off there was very little smell of the product in the bathroom. It seemed as though as the product washed away so did the nice scent of the product, although it wasn't that strong to start off with anyway. My skin felt really clean and smooth but there was no scent of the product left on my skin.

Although I love the Original Source products I have to say that I wasn't that impressed with this one. The smell of the product is much lighter than I expected and I was a little disappointed by this, particularly when washing in the shower as the smell tends to become a little stronger (no I didn't have a cold at the time either!). The product did create a rich lather which was nice as it felt soft against my skin and also felt as though I was getting a really good clean. There was no scent of the product left on my skin after using it, but it did make my skin feel soft and cleansed. In terms of value I can't really complain, especially as it was on special offer for just £1.50. This definitely isn't my favourite product out of the two I have tried and I don't think I would buy this particular one again. I would how-ever definitely be willing to try some of the others in this range.
(review will also appear on ciao)
When it comes to shower gels etc., I tend to just buy whatever is on offer. I like good offers and this Original Source British Strawberry Shower Gel is exactly that. On top of it being on offer when I purchased it, I also thought it might smell like my Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear which also smells like strawberries. Original Source often bring out seasonal products so this one is limited edition and won't be around for forever.
I bought my bottle of this shower gel from Wilkinsons where I got it for the bargain price of £1. The RRP for this product is around £2.20 although other places like Tesco also have it on offer for 2 for £4 at the minute. It is also available to buy from supermarkets and beauty shops etc.
This shower gel comes packaged in the traditional Original Source container, which slopes up slightly on the sides up to the top. The bottle is made out of see through plastic which means you can see inside the bottle and see what colour the shower gel is, which is a dark but bright red. On the front of the bottle is the Union Jack flag, promoting that this is a British product. It also states that it is a seasonal product and says that the product is called 'British Strawberry Shower'. The packaging did stand out to me on the shelf which is why I noticed the offer.
Some strawberry products don't smell nice at all, or even like strawberries sometimes but that is not the case with this product. Once you open the bottle, the strawberry smells hits you immediately and it is lovely. The smell is wonderfully sweet and fruity but not overpowering or sickly in any way. While using in the shower, it smells even better and the scent stays on my skin for quite some time. The actual shower gel makes my skin feel really nice and soft while refreshingly clean at the same time.
I have bought many Original Source products in the past but this has definitely become one of my favourites which makes it a huge shame that it isn't a permanent product.
What could be more British than strawberries and cream whilst you are watching the tennis at Wimbledon or having a lovely little garden party of your own. Well, Original Source have packaged that strawberry goodness and brought it to you in a rather attractive, rather beautifully smelling shower gel and boy is it good enough to eat.
I love Original Source products because as the name would suggest that are made with originally sourced fruits in them so not only are they quite organic and natural but they smell amazingly authentic too.
This shower gel is a special edition summer season shower gel that Original Source have brought out for 2012. I definitely think they went with the Jubilee/Olympic theme and really cashed in on it by putting a cool looking Union Jack on the front of their packaging. It's what first attracted me to this flavour to be honest as I live anything patriotic and definitely bought a lot of red, white and blue this summer.
The strawberry smell in this shower gel is amazing. It's very fruity and sweet and like I've said above almost good enough to eat. The shower gel is a beautiful deep red colour and I only need to apply a little bit of it to a shower puff to get a gorgeous fruity lather. It smooths over my body well and leaves me very soft and fresh feeling.
Just some fun little facts about strawberries that I found on their website, strawberries are the only fruit with a seed on the outside and on average have about 200 of these little pips. Strawberries are a member of the rose family, something I didn't know and in Medieval times they were served at important events to bring peace and posterity!!
A lovely fruity shower gel.
Original Source British Strawberry Shower Gel
This is a limited edition product released to give us all that patriotic British feeling in the shower to go with the growing excitement as Wimbledon turned to the Olympics and then the Paralympics.We all had that feel good warm glow being British and following the success of Andy Murray nearly winning Wimbledon and then the fantastic games this shower gel meant we could all share in that glow just a little in the bathroom.
Original Source was not originally British company but they state on their website:
"We are a member of the Aromatherapy Trade Council and also work closely with the Vegan Society. Our products contain either pure and natural essential oils or natural extracts. We're not big fans of flying our products in from here, there and everywhere, so we source and produce as much as we can in the UK. After all, it's nice here."
So I assume they make their products in each country they sell them in which is good as that means that they source their ingredients locally and also employ local people which makes me feel positive about buying their products.
They also promise on their website:
Use natural ingredients
Never tire of looking for new ingredients
Never stop messing around with new ingredients and packaging
Never test our products on animals
Always test our products on ourselves
Never be wasteful"
All good as far as I am concerned as I do try to buy products from animal friendly and environmentally friendly companies as much as possible and when I know.
My bottle of British Strawberry Shower gel is in a clear plastic bottle with a black flip top lid, which is really easy to remove and replace. The bottle is a strange shape, square edged but tapered to be thinner at the top which I suspect was designed to make it easy to stand up safely on bathroom shelves and on the sides of the bath, without the danger of tipping accidently and this does do the trick. Clearly written on the front of the bottle are the words Original Source and above that Seasonal Edition and under that is British strawberry Shower . The front is decorated with union jack flag colours and this goes with the red gel of the product nicely so that it really stands out on the shelf.On the back label there is all the blurb about the ingredients stating that this contains fresh starwberries. The bottle is recyclable plastic.
THE GOOD STUFF
Inside the bottle, the bath soak is a beautiful clear red, the colour of red wine almost. It is really lovely cheerful colour that makes you smile just looking at the bottle.The advantage of the clear bottle is that it needs no decoration, the product shows itself off.
As you remove the lid from the bottle the smell is really quite powerful and very strawberry fruity and sweet. Almost like a strawberry syrup , and you feel tempted to pour it over your ice cream instead of using it in the bath. It does smell like crushed strawberries with sugar or a strawberry smoothie.
I love the smell as I have said and found that it carried well when using it in the shower or bath. It lathered really well as all their products do. It wasn't really promising any great moisturising qualities but it didn't dry my skin out either, it left my skin feeling nice and not at all tight or dry.
I do get a strange itchy rash from some toiletries but this didn't cause me any problems and when my granddaughter also wanted some, one day it was fine on her eczematic skin too.
I also used it as a bubble bath a few times in the bath and it bubbled up nicely and filled the room with a lovely strawberry aroma which I always enjoy as it means the fun lasts a bit longer.
SOMETHING NOT QUITE SO GREAT:
Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Sodium Lauryl Sulfateis listed in the ingredients on this bottle and indeed you will find this in almost all products that produce foam. This is a controversial substance, which has been linked with carcinogens and is avoided by those who prefer natural products. This does not go with the natural claims of this product but I do know it is actually pretty difficult to find any bubble bath that doesn't contain it. However if you are one of those who really strongly believes in totally natural products then this may put you off.
STRAWBERRY FACTS JUST FOR FUN
I have trawled through several different sites to find these just for interest. So I will put the whole lot in quotes but I have taken them from a variety of sources and written them in my way.
"Strawberries are packed with antioxidants and are great to eat as part of your 5-a-day.
Interesting to read that strawberries are a member of the Rose family which was a fact I didn't know before as they look nothing like each other as plants.
Strawberries were served at important events in Medieval times to bring peace and prosperity.
Starwberries are not a fruit botanically, they are pseudo fruit as the part we eat is not a fruit but the enlarged receptacle of the flower and that is why the seeds are on the outside.
Strawberries have about 200 pips on each fruit!
Strawberries are low fat, low calorie; high in vitamin C, fiber, folic acid, potassium.
An old wives tale says that if you split a double strawberry in half and share it with someone of the opposite sex, you'll soon fall in love.
Americans eat 3.4 pounds of fresh strawberries each year plus another 1.8 pounds frozen per capita." I couldn't find the facts for us Brits but probably much the same now we have such a long season with imports.
I love this shower gel as it is fun and patriotic with its packaging and the smell is good enough to eat but I wouldn't advise it! My skin has never had an adverse reaction to this product and the smell stays gently on my skin as I dry myself off and lasts for a while after I'm dry. It is not so overpowering that you could not bath with the then use another perfume to wear out - it is strong in the bottle and the bath in use but does not remain strong on your skin. I would say that this is rather more aimed at the female market than the male but this is not written in stone just my personal opinion! My husband has not been tempted but is happy to share my bath after I have used it!
I bought this in Tesco earlier this year and I believe it was about £1.50 on special offer and that is about the average price I pay for Original Source products as I only ever buy them when on offer.
Thank you for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name.
This lovely strawberry shower gel is one of the limited editions that Original Source releases every now and then. It is still available online and I have seen it on the Superdrug website so I am sure you will still be able to find it in some shops. But hurry as this is likely to be replaced by winter special editions soon - in fact the Boots website already has the rather delicious sounding strawberry and cherry version available.
Original Source shower gels do tend to be more expensive than other everyday brands, with prices coming in at around the £2.40 mark. However these are really good quality products containing lots of natural ingredients, so it is worth spending a little extra on them I think. And of course as with everything else in shops these days, the range is frequently on offer, so this is the time to make your purchases!
This shower gel comes in the distinctive Original Source packaging - I think these really stand out on the shelf as they are quite dramatic, and make a change from other curvier bottles! It is a colourful range with the products using lots of fruity ingredients.
And the key one here is of course strawberries. The gel itself is a lovely rich red shade, and I found that using a shower puff this lathered up incredibly quickly leaving me with a lovely creamy lather. I realised after the first time I used this that I actually don't need very much of this gel as it is so rich and thick and lathers up so nicely.
And the smell of strawberries is delicious! It is a very sweet and natural smell, and isn't at all artificial-smelling as some fruity products can be. Instead it is a lovely intense fragrance that I really enjoy.
After using this my skin feels lovely and soft, with the smell of strawberries lingering.
In summary ...
Overall I think this is a lovely shower gel and would really recommend that any fruity fans snap it up before it disappears from the shelves! It is great quality which I think justifies the slightly higher price tag, and the smell is delicious. I'll definitely be trying out the cherry version soon!
Original Source strawberry shower gel is a limited edition range from the brand to celebrate all things wonderfully British in the year 2012. The brand prides itself on being a natural, ethical shower product claiming to be 'packed with naturally fragrances'. I have found the boasts on this bottle not as great as on others (mint for example with it's listing of the number of leaves contained within) making me wonder about how natural it is? Looking at the ingredients roll call it's also packed with 15 odd other things some of which look suspiciously chemical so I have my doubts.
The bottle is made from recyclable materials and the testing of the product has been done on humans rather than animals continuing it's ethical stance. The bottle itself is fairly elegant and more design thought has been put into it that other standard shower gels. It is tall and relatively slender with it's now classic obelisk shape with a subtly curved top. The Container stands with the opening at the bottom to help with dispensing when at low levels avoiding having to shake and turn upside down to release the final dregs. The bottle is made of a robust plastic that has a almost frosted clear appearance.
The packaging makes it quite clear that this is a limited edition product and is celebrating 'Britishness'. The Union Jack flag covering the entire bottle face is also a giveaway of this.
The typographic layout is generally stylish and interesting but not confusing - information is laid out practically and functionally.
The gel itself is of a fairly thick consistency and is a rich red colour. Upon squeezing it out of the bottle you are instantly hit with the overwhelming smell of strawberries. Original Source seem to like to go for nasal impact and this product is no different. The smell only increases as you lather and stays with you for quite some time after. It is a very sweet smell and probably not the most masculine scent out there. It does smell quite natural compared to alot of other strawberry scented products.
You can usually get a deal on buying these such a buy one get one free that works out at around £1 per item. Singularly they tend to retail between £1.50-£2.00. It being a limited edition it may not last too long so snap it up while you can.
