“ Brand: Original Source / Type: Shower Gel / Cream „
I love the Original Source range and always end up buying the new 'flavours' as and when I come across them. This particular version is one that I've had stashed away at the back of a cupboard for ages, and have finally got around to digging it out and using it. The Original Source Chocolate and Mint Shower Melt was released quite a while ago and I haven't seen it in any of the standard high street beauty shops and supermarkets lately, but I believe I actually picked this up from Poundland, where it would have cost me a measly £1.00. They often stock old or discontinued Original Source products so keep an eye out for these if you have a Poundland store nearby.
Product description: "Like a master chef creating culinary works of art in the kitchen, Original Source have assembled the finest ingredients to create a unique new gourmet range of shower products designed to make your skin's taste buds water.
Get tempted by this chocolate mint delight. Enjoy the decadent indulgence of an after dinner mint any time you like, but without a single calorie."
The packaging is different to usual, and is made using 50% less packaging than the standard bottles. The product comes in a clear plastic pouch, which allows the shower gel to show through. This is good because it allows you to see exactly how much you have left. The pouch then has a spout at the top which can be opened or closed for when you want to use it. I actually found this a little tricky to use with wet hands, and transferred the shower gel into an old Original Source bottle that I had used up and washed out. It's nice that they make the effort to reduce packaging materials, but for me the pouch is a bit too flimsy and squishy to get a good grip on, and their plastic bottles are a much more effective form of packaging.
This shower melt is essentially the same thing as an ordinary shower gel. It has a brown colour to it that makes the melt look like mud! It seems a bit wrong to be washing with something that has a colour associated with dirt and uncleanliness, but even though it looks a bit weird this stuff really does work well. It has a nice smooth consistency and a thick gel-like texture. I like to use this with my bath puff sponge to get a really bubbly effect and to help it create a nice rich lather, which is great as it does foam up really nicely and feels soft and gentle against my skin. It is cleansing and refreshing, and I love that the scent is so unusual.
The fragrance is my favourite thing about this product. I love beauty treatments that smell of food, and apparently my sweet tooth extends to smells as well as tastes! It has a rich chocolately fragrance which is nice and luxurious, and this is paired with a fresh, strong mint fragrance. I would say that it's definitely more of a pure peppermint scent as it is clear and strong and smells very natural, just like the real thing.
This only negative in my opinion is that this does not spread very easily over the skin. I have to use at least twice as much of this product than I do when using other Original Source shower gels, and even though it foams up nicely it does not go very far, and I have to apply more to get a full clean all over. The pouch contains 250ml of shower melt, which is the same as you would get in a normal 250ml bottle of Original Source shower gel. It managed to last me for the best part of a month which isn't bad considering the price, and I really appreciate that Original Source always uses high quality and organic ingredients in their products. Original Source always give great value for money and even though their products are very cheap they are excellent quality and like top end products for just a fraction of the price.
I would recommend this one as it's cheap, cheerful, and smells lovely - a good choice if you fancy bathing in chocolate, with the added freshness of peppermint.
This is a vegan product and Original Source are against animal testing - please keep your beauty cruelty free!
I recently won a load of Original Source goodies and this Chocolate and Mint shower gel was among the winnings. I had used Original Source before but never this variety of gel. My opinion of the products overall was that they were gels to be used as a 'treat' or as a luxury. I would often buy one of the gels when going away on holiday, for instance.
The product comes in an unsual shaped hard transparent plastic bottle. Mine differs from the bag style bottle shown in the Dooyoo picture. My bottle is 250ml sized and is rigid plastic in a long chisel-like shape. The bottle sits on it's lid to make dispensing the gel easier. The lid is flip style but it's fairly difficult to open as it's a large lid with a tight lip - I keep bending my fingernails over everytime I open this. There are information labels pasted onto the bottle. I really like the Original Source packaging design although I'm not too sure what they mean by their claim that "2000 years of chocolate history inspired one bottle of this..." which emblazons the front of the bottle. The bold text and colourings means that this gel would appeal to both sexes.
Original Source say this gel is "packed with natural stuff" but don't go on to explain what that natural stuff might be. If you check the ingredients though you can see listings for cocoa and mint leaf extract. What I really love on the label is their little stamp section where they have a lot of different logos which all mean something. Here the product is marked as being vegan, made in the UK, tested on humans rather than animals and the bottle as being recyclable.
To use you simply squeeze the gel out of the medium sized dispensing hole. I have to be honest and say that when I first put this gel onto my shower puff I was kind of disgusted by it's appearance. The gel does not look very nice as it's a dark caramel brown colour and it looks rather like, well, you can probably imagine without me getting into gory details!
The gel is more rubbery and stiff than I imagined it would be and you have to rub it in and add water to produce an effect. It then lathers up really well. The fragrance of the gel is very pleasant indeed. It smells of milk chocolate and of fresh, wild mint. I have trouble smelling these aromas at the same time though and it's usually the mint fragrance that is most prominant. It's an indulgent and refreshing fragrance that is unisex. I have recently used the Mint and Walnut scrub and found that the mint effect was not as strong in this Chocolate and Mint gel as it was in the scrub. The mint is quite zingy and does make your skin tingle a little, especially in sensitive areas. This only adds to the enjoyment of using it! The fragrance is actually so powerful that my entire bathroom and nearby bedrooms smell of chocolate and mint when I'm finished bathing!
After using the product my skin smells of both chocolate and mint and I love smelling my hands and recreating that bathtime experience. There is something yummy and indulgent about the scent that makes me feel very happy. During bathing itself the steamy wafts of melting chocolate and cool mint are so exciting that I tend to start giggling.
I have not noticed any skin softening properties with this gel but it certainly makes me feel clean and fresh all over. It is strong enough to clean particularly sweaty or intimate areas and leaves me feeling confident that I smell good to other people. Having had another look at the prices and availability of the Original Source products I think I will try and buy them a bit more often as they are lovely to use and really put a smile on my face. They are definitely worth their price tag and after checking my local supermarket it seems you can pick them up from around £1.99 with prices going up to around £3 per bottle.
You can find out more about the Original Source range at their website:
Having been a fan of the Original Source shower gels out there for sometime now I decided that I had to try their limited edition, luxury offerings with this being the newest one out there from the range but did it live upto the hopes I had?
The packaging for this is designed so that it uses 50% less plastics than the standard bottle design which is something I like. The packaging also allows you to get every last drop out of the pack.
Smells like it says it will...chocolate and mint.
Good value for money as you will get a number of washes out of this bottle/bag.
Leaves your body feeling clean (although I have also made a note in my negatives feedback on this so please do read on).
Too watery for my liking which is something I don't often find with Original Source shower gels but with this luxury chocolate and mint melt I found that once you pour it into your hands it is slipping through your fingers straight away and so you have a lot of waste.
I am not a fan of the style of packaging (although I do like that it is good for the environment due to using less plastic) as this does not stand up easily on its own and so is not practical for things like going to the gym or the pool with.
Whilst I normally love the fresh fragrances of Original Source products this one was not one I particularly liked and so I have found it at the bottom of my list of ones I would use.
This may sound mad but I find that when I am washing I feel that the brown colour actually on some level makes me feel like it is not cleansing me as well as my other Original Source shower gells I own.
Overall for me this is not one for me. I did not like the fragrance as it simply feel like a luxury fragrance to me. I find these packaging types to be a poor choice as they don't stand up well and would rather see them only used for refil packs instead. The fact this is such a watery consistency is something I am not a big fan of and with the colour being brown it just didn't feel like you were getting cleaner for me. Something of a first for me as this is one from Original Source I don't recommend but I have to be honest with how I felt and it just didn't match up to what I have had previously from them.
I have been a fan of Original Source for a long time. I have noticed recently that they have several products I have never seen before. While browsing in Asda I saw this shower gel and had to have it! It costs £1.99 or 250ml.
The shower gel comes is a squeezy plastic container with a black lid that you flip open to get the product out. This is a good idea as it minimises packaging, I do find however that as the bottle empties it is difficult to make it stand up.
The two main ingredients in the shower gel are chocolate and mint. Original Source state that chocolate is great for circulation, muscle recovery, your respiratory system and your digestion. Mint is known for it's calming effects as well as being an anti-septic.
As soon as you open the lid you can smell the chocolate, this shower gel reminds me very much of mint aero. It has a lovely thick consistency. The gel is the colour of hot chocolate. I use the shower gel on a body puff, you only need the smallest amount to get a good lather and wash all over.
This shower gel leaves your skin feeling tingly and refreshed, much like the Original Mint shower gel.
After using this my skin felt soft and smooth, as well as refreshed. I could smell the mintiness in the shower gel for a good few hours after washing. I would definately buy this again, it is so indulgent. The only negative is the packaging but I have since seen it in the normal container in Asda.
After being put on the box for the next week due to a bad back, I was of course feeling down in the dumps, so after visiting my sister to drop my sick note of this morning I was overjoyed at the wonderful gift she presented to me (it is also my birthday on Thursday, so I was doubly miserable!)
She had rather perfectly filled a gift bag up (to the brim!) with loads of "smellies" all of which I have never tried before, and all of which are deliciously scented, so I of course cane straight back to try them out, hence this first review!
The product I will now review for you is - "Original source - chocolate and mint shower melt".
Now my penchant for chocolate and all like minded products must have been handed down from my mother, as she and my younger sister Emma have (unfortunately) the same gene!
As all thereof us are constantly dieting chocolate is of course off limit's, so we both seem to be buying each other chocolate scented bath products, though out of all the one's we have had this is by far the best!
This particular product comes within it's own plastic pouch, with the funnel end being situated on the left hand side, and consists of a funnel and a flip self securing lid.
The pouch is almost see through, with the base being a bit thicker than the rest of the pouch, this helps it stand up on a flat surface, even when used, with the idea of this product being able to say that they have created something that is high quality but better for the environment, using 50% less plastic than would have been used if sold in an actual bottle.
The first (but not the last!) draw of this gel to me was how it looked through the pouch, with it looking like a chocolate and caramel mixture, melted and just waiting to be squeezed all over vanilla ice cream...er I mean a shower scrunchie!
There is still all the information you would expect, brand name, product name, description of the product and directions for use, ingredients and the best introduction to a new brand I have ever read, with there being a short paragraph describing this as ....."a unique gourmet range, of shower products to make your mouth water", and believe me after smelling it, it took me all my time not to just squeeze the pouch into my mouth!
To use you simply squeeze a small amount either onto your hand, or as I do a shower scrunchie (gives more bubbles or less product!) and use to wash yourself with it.
The smell is incredible! I have always loved original source products (apart from the white pear one, different review!), as they are always strong scented and smell just as they should do, without smelling fake, so I expected good things from this one and was not disappointed!
The smell is what you would expect if someone had liquidised a box of "after eight" mints, then filled a pouch with them, the chocolate is blatantly dark and bitter (though the shower gel is a deceptive milk chocolate colour!), with there being an abundance of strong and refreshing mint there two, it even states on the back of the pouch this the much better alternative, calorific wise, to eating the chocolate, better to shower in it instead!
The shower gel also bubbled up beautifully when being washed with it, with the scent still being nice and detectable, though not quite as strong once diluted down with water.
Once rinsed off and dried, my skin feels lovely and clean, and I smell good enough to eat, though my husband always turns his nose up at this "foody scented" products, saying he can't understand why I would want to smell like an orange or lime.....men!
Price wise (and I know I shouldn't know as it's a present!) it can be purchased from around the £1.50 mark, with these being currently sold in Sainsburys (www.sainsburys.co.uk), with there being a few other "flavours" available in the range, for more information visit - www.originalsource.co.uk.
This really is a lovely shower gel that I would quite happily buy again (for myself and my sister next time!), and as my darling sis has also included two other scents in the range, I don't see me getting out of the shower in the few days, recommended!
Thanks for reading x
I absolutely love Original Source products and frequently scout for them when I visit shops such as B&M Stores or Home Bargains, just in case they have any at bargain prices (although I do think they are quality products and worth paying that bit extra for).
I was pleased, therefore, to find this Chocolate and Mint shower melt in my local B&M Stores for the princely sum of £1.29. This product is in different packaging to the standard bottles from Original Source's standard slightly pyramid shaped ones which stand on the lid. This is like a plastic pouch with a screw top lid on one corner. I have to say it initially reminded me of one of those drip bags you see in hospitals which is a little on the dark side but never mind.
Apparently, these bag versions of the products are from the 'Gourmet' range of Original Source products, designed to be a little more indulgent. This one certainly feels and smells like it should be more expensive than it was and I notice on Boots etc the price is between £2-2.50 so slightly more than the standard range of shower gels.
However, what you get is a bag full of utter joy to use. I do not actually like the bag design which I find a bit cumbursome to use, I am not keen on the screw top either and prefer the flip top lids on the bottle designs. But the product itself smells utterly delicious, like hot chocolate, sweet, rich and almost edible with a hint of mint behind it.
This shower melt does not produce that much of a lather, it is more of a shower creme than a gel but it does clean very effectively and isn't sticky at all, it leaves your skin smelling wonderful and feeling silky and in great condition. I feel like this is an indulgent product and one which I would use on special occasions rather than on a daily basis - to my mind it is definitely worth the price tag and one I will look out for again in the bargain shops.
As a final note, the corporate social responsibility of Original Source products is also appealing, they are vegan and fair trade and tend to be fully recyclable packaging too so a good buy all round.
I bought this Original Source Shower Melt from Sainsburys a couple of weeks ago, it's part of their new Gourmet range and the reason I brought it was because it looks just like melted chocolate inside the squishy plastic pouch that Original Source put a lot of their shower gels in.
I didn't think it would smell as goooood as it does! It says Chocolate And Mint on the pouch and I know Original Source stuff always smells nice, but I wasn't expecting it to smell just like an After Eight..... but it does!!!
The smell before you use it is a wicked combo of chocolate and mint, it's amazing how they've got the smell so spot on because I had thought the mint would probably overpower the chocolate but it doesn't at all. You can pick the chocolate AND the mint out and like I said the overall smell is like After Eights, it smells good enough to eat but I don't think it would taste very nice!
I have used mine with a shower puff and have got to say you don't get much of a lather out of it. It's still very cleansing though and you don't have to use very much to have a shower with, it comes out of the pouch nice and smooth and feels very luxurious to clean yourself with even though there aren't as many bubbles as I'd like there to be it's still a proper lovely shower gel to use.
I think it's the smell that makes it feel so special and also the fact that looking at the shower gel is like washing with melted chocolate. It feels a lot creamier to wash with than it looks and isn't sticky at all, I love the feel of my skin after I've dried myself as well because it's lovely and soft and best of all the After Eight smell lingers on my skin for AGES!
I deffo recommend this Shower Melt for anyone who is looking for a shower gel that is a bit different from the normal fruity or floral smells. As well as the smell being gorgeous it's just a lovely shower gel to use that leaves my skin feeling clean and in tip top condition.
