“ Brand: Original Source / Type: Bath Creme „
While I love bathing in Lush products, they are quite expensive and I do like to try other, cheaper brands as well. Earlier this year I purchased a bottle of Original Source Moisturising Vanilla and Cocoa Bath from Boots when it was available at half price. I'm familiar with the brand, but hadn't tried any of their bath products before - only shower gels.
The product comes in a clear plastic bottle with a black lid - in fact it looks a bit like a smoothie bottle. The packaging is fully recyclable and the label states that 500ml of product is included, and that it is suitable for vegans. The product contains cocoa butter for its moisturising properties, and vanilla to add a warming, comforting scent.
Unscrewing the lid, I was met with a delicious scent - of chocolatey cocoa mixed with sweet vanilla. The scent was warming and comforting - I'd describe this as more of a winter scent than a summer one, and it was ideal for the chilly winter and spring days earlier in the year. Pouring the liquid into the bath, I found it to be runnier than I'd expected, so I had to be careful not to put too much in. I had to judge by sight when to stop, never having used the product before, as I hadn't known previously how much to put in. In the end, I think I got about eight baths out of my bottle. The plus side is that, because the bottle is clear plastic, it's easy to see how much you have left and, after the first use, how much you need per bath.
The creamy liquid - which I would say had the consistency of yoghurt - filled the bathroom with a lovely scent, and created inviting bubbles in the bath. The water didn't change colour, and there weren't as many bubbles as you would find in a Lush bath, but considering the price of this product I wasn't too bothered.
I enjoyed my bath, which was warming, relaxing and comforting. I couldn't smell the scent as much after a few minutes, but the water felt soft. After bathing, my skin hadn't dried out - this is probably down to the presence of cocoa butter - but it wasn't actively moisturised, and I did need to apply a body butter. Having said that, my skin is rather dry and someone with normal skin might not need to moisturise.
I liked this product and would buy it again. It isn't as good as Lush products - it doesn't smell as strongly, produce as many bubbles or moisturise as effectively - but it is very good quality for the price (just over £2) and even better on special offer. I'd like to check out some other products in the Original Source range.
Although usually I am the type of person to use cheap as possible shower gels, so long as they are sensitive enough for my skin, recently I bought myself a bottle of Original Source bath milk. My sister (the person I get all my 'beauty tips' from (she's always been the far girlier of us!) uses it religiously so I thought I might as well have a try to see what all the fuss is about.
The product comes as a large 500ml bottle which doesn't last as long as your average shower gel as it is far more runny than other brands, but that's not to say it isn't worth it. To use the product you simply click open a slanted lid and pour it out into any bath water you have run. After pouring it into your bath it definitely lasts a good half hour at least, if you're looking for a relaxing stay in a nice warm bubble bath.
The fragrance in my opinion is quite strong and stays on me for a few hours afterwards so long as I'm just sitting about the house doing little effort tasks. Whenever I open up the bottle it gives off a delicious smell of vanilla and cocoa, a scent that kind of reminds me of the little milk lollies you could get as a child.
Although the product does come in the image listed, my own version comes in a bottle that is much more reminiscent of a smoothie. It has a simple screw cap and is made of clear plastic, so you can see the creamy colour inside. I find this version to be much easier to use as it is quite a bit easier pouring, bu if you're clumsy like me, you might accidentally pour a little too much in - but that's not necessarily a bad thing, it just means more bubbles!
It can be purchased for around the £2 mark which I think is a great deal, especially if like me you happen to catch it on offer and get around 20p knocked off. It is definitely great value for money.
I love the Original Source range and always end up buying the new 'flavours' as and when I come across them. After running out of my stash of Lush bath goodies I wanted some basic bubble bath and came across a very small range of Original Source bath foams in Boots. The RRP was £2.20 for a 500ml bottle, but it was on offer for half price at the time I purchased it, so I got an even better bargain!
Product description: "Our Vanilla and Cocoa Bath Milk not only contains cocoa, known to possess amazing moisturising properties, but vanilla which creates a wonderful aroma. So your end result is one sweet smelling, skin-nourishing bath experience. Packed with natural stuff, what better way to smooth out those rough bits and sweeten up your skin."
The bath foam comes in a clear plastic bottle which allows the liquid to show through. This is good because it allows you to see exactly how much you have left. The bottle looks like an old-fashioned milk bottle which is quite cute and has a screw top lid which is easy to use. The neck of the bottle is quite wide and I found it a little tricky to control when pouring out into the bath, as it flowed very rapidly and I ended up with far more than needed. Take care when dispensing to avoid bubble mountains!
I've previously tried (and loved) the Original Source Vanilla Milk and Cocoa Shower Cream, which was originally released in 2008 as their special Winter edition product. I was pleased to see this back in the form of a bath foam and if they ever re-release the shower cream these two products would go together beautifully.
The bath foam has a warm caramel colour to it that disappears once it's mixed into the water, and leaves behind a lovely layer of soft foamy bubbles. The liquid is quite smooth and runny so it pours out quickly and mixes in with the water easily. Judging this based mainly on the low price, I had expected a rather standard, basic bubble bath, but in reality it's a real treat to use. As well as being nice and bubbly it also has a gorgeous rich and sweet smell. Imagine the scent of a rich hot chocolate drink, mixed with the scent of a creamy vanilla milkshake and that is what this smells like! It's totally gorgeous and I find the scent to be very comforting and relaxing which is just what I want when I'm having a nice indulgent soak in a hot bubble bath. The scent is very strongly noticeable whilst bathing, and also lingers on the skin afterwards which is a nice bonus as the fragrance is long lasting.
As well as that, it also really works as a moisturising product. Whenever I use this bath foam it feels great against my skin and I am left with my skin feeling softer, smoother and moisturised. It turns the chore of keeping clean into a real pampering experience and is lovely to use in the bath on a regular basis to keep skin in good condition. I favour baths over showers and found that this 500ml bottle only lasted me for a couple of weeks, but at the price it is very affordable and I'd be happy to purchase it again. I really appreciate that Original Source always uses high quality and organic ingredients in their products. Original Source always give great value for money and even though their products are very cheap they are excellent quality and like top end products for just a fraction of the price.
I always trust the Original Source range and this is another brilliant product. I would thoroughly recommend this as a bargain bath-time buy, and I only wish they'd bring back the matching shower cream so I could get a double dose of vanilla & cocoa goodness!
This is a vegan product and Original Source are against animal testing - please keep your beauty cruelty free!
I have been using this bath milk product almost daily since winning a bottle of it. I normally use some kind of bubble bath or oily bath melt to scent the water or create foam or a pleasurable atmosphere. This Original Source Vanilla and Cocoa Bath Milk has temporarily replaced my current shop's own bubble bath product.
The product comes as a large 500ml bottle which is designed in a kind of Christmas tree shape. It has a strange slanted lid which you pull off and click back into place. It's not the best lid design for a bath product though and can be tricky to replace. The bottle is made of clear plastic and is recyclable. I like that you can see the liquid product through the bottle. It's a custard colour gel which closely resembles that of the Original Source Shea Butter and Honey Shower Gel. The bottle has two information labels on it. Original Source are quite bombastic and fun loving so they have stamped a huge statement on the front label which reads "72 roasting bean hours helped make one bottle...". It's eye catching and an interesting fact which puts the brand in a good light. The back label has more detailed information on it including the Original Source Guide which states that the product is suitable for vegans, is not tested on animals, is "packed with natural stuff" and that the bottle is recyclable. The brand also point out that the product contains cocoa which is thought to have "amazing moisturising qualities" and vanilla which "creates a wonderful aroma".
To use this you just need to put it into your bath water. I usually add products to my running water as it helps to create bubbles. When I first did this with this product it just seemed to vanish into the water and no bubbles emerged. I had used a fair dollop of the stuff too. The liquid is quite gloopy and thick and you'd expect it to have more of an impact in the water. I have since taken to using more than I would normally use with other bath milk products. I still have to agitate the water to get any bubbles to appear. The brand don't actually say this will create any bubbles at all so I might be asking for the impossible but I do expect a bit of soft foam when I use products of this nature. The foam that is created is very thin and uninteresting though - not at all luxurious. You can't get enough bubbles from it to be able to smoothe them over your skin.
The fragrance of the product is a lot milder than I would like it to be. Original Source to me have always been a brash brand that liked to use bold flavours and fragrances in their products. The scent of this bath milk is so mild that if I did a blind product test I would never align this with Original Source - it's just so mild mannered and gentle. The fragrance is like soft fluffy towels and angel sponge cakes but it's a barely there fragrance that doesn't float into the puffs of steam or make your bathroom smell all over. It's probably more feminine than for men but to be honest it leaves just a hint of scent so probably would be suitable for both genders.
The bath milk has a mild influence on the texture of the bath water. I do sense that the water feels a little softer and smoother. I hoped this would mean that I'd be moisturised a little more but I have noticed no difference in terms of my skin being softer after using.
After I have bathed I can smell this mild but distinctive and sweet smell on my skin and it smells fresh, clean and quite nice. When I use this alongside the Original Source Shea Butter and Honey scented shower gels or a cocoa infused soap bar it is a nice collection to experience. Used with anything else though and it can be slightly underwhelming. Certainly if you just want to use this and a plain unperfumed soap bar you might be disappointed.
Although I am using it often I don't think I will buy this in the future as it seems to be a product that you don't get a lot out of for the price tag. It seems to underperform in all areas and although it has a pleasant scent it isn't particularly unique or different to other bath milks to make it into a favourite product.
As I opened my Christmas presents last year, I noticed a general theme and that was the number of people who bought me smellies. Great I thought, as it saves me having to buy any for the months ahead plus a girl can never in my opinion have too many smellies (although maybe my bathroom shelves would beg to differ). The Original Source Cocoa and Vanilla Bath was one such gift and after opening it last night I was keen to review it.
As with all the Original Source range, the Cocoa and Vanilla Bath soak is no different in presentation to the rest of their products. The bath soak comes packaged in an upright translucent plastic bottle which is capped with a black lid which screws off and houses 500ml of liquid. The bottle is decorated in bold black text to illustrate the Original Source logo, whilst a smattering of orange text tells us that over 72 hours of roasting coca bean time has gone into just one bottle.
Unlike many bath related products the presentation of this one is in my opinion great for both a female and a male market. The bottle does not exude the floral and pink shades often favoured by other brands and the bottle shouts practicality and modern design in its construction.
Upon opening the lid of this bath soak which is one of those lids where you half screw and half pull the lid off to get inside, you are met with the soak itself which is of a light peachy cream shade and has a medium texture that is slightly creamier than many other bath soaks. This liquid smells (unsurprisingly) highly vanilla and cocoa in fragrance with the overwhelming smell being of the slightly bitter and woody cocoa with a dusting of the sweeter vanilla scent. Whilst I do love the vanilla fragrance I have to admit that I am not the biggest fan of the cocoa smell.
------The Claim from Original Source------
This product promises to possess amazing moisturising qualities with the cocoa ingredient whilst having a lovely fragrance as a result of the vanilla. The end result? Sweet smelling and nourished skin.
Not only that but this product is packed full of natural 'stuff' and is suitable for vegans.
------Price and Availability------
I have never actually bought any of the Original Source products myself, however a quick browse on the internet confirms that a bottle can currently be bought for around the £2 - £3 mark, and is stocked in Tesco for £2.20.
------Using this Product------
To use this bath soak simply pour a dollop under the running tap and swish through with your hands for a foamy and yummy smelling bath. This experience leaves a lovely sweet smell throughout the house and leaves a lovely bubbly bath, perfect for relaxing in after a long day.
I poured in a little of the bubble bath which did go a long way especially when swished around for a while with my hands. The product was great in giving me a lovely soak and the opportunity to relax, however I was disappointed that the bubbles began to recede at the sight of my shower gel leaving a milky looking bath without any foam.
Upon getting out of the bath my skin felt soft and very moisturised and I did not feel the need to add my usual body moisturiser on top. I can therefore testify to the moisturising qualities of the cocoa even if it wasn't my favourite of smells.
I did enjoy using this product; it looks nice on the side of my bath and provides a moisturising and sweet scented soak which is perfect for this time of the year. It also comes in a useful 500ml bottle which means that it lasts rather than running out after the first week. I would therefore highly recommend this bath soak and would score it four stars out of five accordingly.
Thanks for taking the time to read my review!
There's nothing better than hot bubble bath on a cold winters day, well actually there is if I've been for a run it feels so much nicer! Bubble bath is a girls best friend at bath time and Original Source have got it covered in my eyes.
With their range of shower gels, oils and bath foams, milks and bubble I knew there would be something I'd love. Usually I go for their mint shower gel and just use a couple of squirts but on this particular trip to Asda I noticed some bottles which looked like smoothies and actually turned out to be Bath Cream. After smelling them all (come on I'm not the only one to do this) I settled for the Vanilla and Cocoa scent because it smelt like I'd just walked into a chocolate shop.
As ever Original Source haven't disappointed with this one. A generous glug into the bath produce almost endless amounts of thick lovely bubbles which not only last for ages (at least 45 minutes) but they also leave your skin feeling soft, moisturised and smelling of chocolate, in a nice way I should add (not like you've smeared yourself in Cadbury's!)
The Bath Cream comes in two different style of bottle - the one illiustrated above and the bottles which make the cream look almost like smoothies or milkshakes which is what I had. The milkshake style bottle is a 500ml bottle which has lasted me around 2.5 weeks with at least 3 bubbly baths each week and a good generous glug of bath cream in each. The bottle illustrated above is the same size as the Original Source shower gels which are around the 250ml-300ml mark and I've only seen these available online. My bottle is bigger so I'd buy this one anyway if I had the choice.
In Asda this was on offer at £1.39 reduced from £1.89 which I feel is a complete bargain for such a good Bath Cream, regularly I have considered paying £3 upwards as I only buy this sort of product when it's cold or when I need pampering. Online the 500ml bottle which I have is priced at around £2.20 so it's probably something I wouldn't bother with.
There are two other scents available in this line and they are Lavender and Habenero Chilli with Black Pepper (sounds a bit like dinner!) I think I'll stick to my chocoloate shop in the bathroom to be honest.
I definitely recommend this to all of you, once you've tried it you'll wonder where it's been all of your life!
