Advantages: Smells great, smell lingers, easy to use and find
Disadvantages: Some people dont like nuts
I have used Original Source products a fair few times now, like Lush they seem to blend together a plethora of interesting ingredients which either smell utterly delightful or not so nice to be honest. I first came across Original Source products when I was sent a Tea Tree Oil Shower Gel sample and since then I become a Lush addict and never looked back.
So upon my recent shopping trip I came across an offer on Original Source products and the temptation was too much to bare with two products for £1 promotion so I ended up buying two bottles 250ml bottle of Almond and Coconut shower Gel, one to try before I go on my holiday and should my skin not be irritated, one to take with me on my holiday.
Now depending on which you buy, each Original Source product range comes in a differently shaped bottle. Shampoo’s and Conditioners come in bottles that you would expect them to be in and the shower gels come in all different shapes and sizes, some with the useful plastic hanger so you can hang it up in the shower and in the case of the product I just bought a cone shaped bottle with no hanger. Each product is also brightly coloured and clearly stands out within any display, again unless you bought the product I did. The one thing that did confuse me is that some of the products are both Shower gels and Shampoo, so when buying something from this range double check you actually have the right item you wish to buy, the bright spark in my local supermarket stocked the Almond and Coconut Shower Gel next to the Almond and Coconut Shampoo and so on across the entire range.
So, taking my little package into the shower I was pleasantly surprised to learn how easy it was to use, the bottle itself is a flip lid which can often cause a little difficulty to open when your hands are wet, but this one is rather study and it stands perfectly well on its own when you put it down. The first thing you will notice is the Almond smell once the bottle is open and I am a big fan of almonds in food and within beauty products and then you will find a faint smell of coconut once you begin to massage the cream into your body but it isn’t a strong and overpowering smell and certainly will not leave you smelling like you have covered yourself head to toe in Sun tan cream. The cream itself is an off white almond looking colour and is quite thick and smooth but lathers really well, so you don’t really need to use very much, just be careful when you do squeeze the bottle because it does release a lot of the cream.
After use the smell does linger on your skin as well as emanating throughout your home for a good few hours, I could certainly smell it for a long time after using and my skin did feel notably softer and much smoother. Having now used this Shower gel everyday for 3 weeks I have to admit that my skin is feeling very soft especially on my legs which do tend to dry out slightly in the hot weather.
Now I know you can use Shower Gel on your hair but I tend not to simply because I have never actually found they do as good a job as using shampoo and conditioner but you can find this product as a Shampoo within the Original Source Range.
So, to the ingredients, contained within this Original Source product are much simpler to identify than a Lush product. Like Lush Original Source use only 100% pure and natural essential oils in their products and also have a policy against testing on animals and each of their products are also Vegetarian and Vegan friendly, so natural products means no synthetics which also means they are much better for you and your body.
So the ingredients, well firstly we have Almond Oil (Prunus amygdalus dulcis )and it is used traditionally by masseurs to lubricate your skin and it is used within this product for its nourishing and reviving properties on the skin. Secondly we have Cocos nucifera which is the scientific name for a coconut and it is used to help smooth and moisturise your skin and then we have ocimum basilicum oil or as Sweet basil as it is commonly known and it is used quite often as an aromatherapy oil for it’s sweet smells but when contained in this way it is used to help refresh and clean the skin. There are of course many other ingredients which you would have to look into but these basic ingredients which are found within many other products all help to cleanse and soften your skin whilst helping to relieve dryness and flaking to leave you with smooth supple skin.
If you are pregnant or breast feeding, please double check with your Doctor or Midwife before using this product as they recommend not to use essential oils during pregnancy.
Now I was pleasantly surprised that I found myself liking this, there was no greasy feeling on my skin after using, in fact it does absorb relatively quickly into your skin and because there wasn’t an overwhelming smell of coconuts for me it was even better, as much as I love coconuts I actually don’t like the lingering smell, the almond smell is much sweeter and longer lasting and when you are travelling around London all day in the smog filled polluted atmosphere your skin does become dry and dirty looking so it is quite refreshing to be able to use a product which does make you feel clean and smell clean.
Having super sensitive skin and often having problems using anything other than hypoallergenic products or Lush I was impressed to learn that my skin was not affected by this Original Source product so I do recommend it to everyone, even if you do have funny skin like me.
Original Source products can be found in any supermarket or high street stored such as Boots and Superdrug and you can often find them in your local convenience stores. Prices do vary quite a lot depending on where you do buy them but for a 250ml bottle of shower gel you can be expected to pay anything from £1.59 to £2.49 unless you find a very good offer like I did.
