We always have an array of Original Source shower gels, they are my husband's favourite and we often have an assortment of different varieties in our bathroom. I find their range of fragrances very inspiring and when I see them I want to try all the ones I haven't. They are always easily available in the supermarket and high street chemists and because they are often on promotion they are good value. I wouldn't consider paying the full price though.
The eucalyptus shower gel is in Original Source's 'For Men' range. The majority of their fragrances I would describe as unisex but maybe this is a way of appealing to men, by stating it is designed for them. My husband picked this one up from the supermarket along with black mint. When he first used it he said it smelt like cough sweets.
This morning I thought I would try it (even though it says 'FOR MEN') I was actually looking for a tea tree one as I have a patch of skin that has broken out but for a change we didn't have any but as eucalyptus has antibacterial properties I ignored the FOR MEN statement and went ahead. The fragrance was no where near as strong as I expected but I could definitely smell the tell tale eucalyptus scent which was fresh and invigorating. One of the first things I noticed was that it didn't create as much bubbles as most other Original Source shower gels. Do men not like bubbles as much as us girls?! However as I stepped out of the shower my skin felt wonderfully fresh and clean and my sleepy morning head much more awakened. I'm hoping it might clear up those few spots too!
This shower gel is packaged exactly like all other Original Source shower gels making it easy to spot in it's usual convenient upside down bottle. The gel is a dark green and is labelled as being for hair and body. On the back it has Original Source's usual statement, in this case that it contains 53 drops of eucalyptus oil and is suitable for vegans.
I don't really understand why this shower gel is directly marketed at men. It has a definite unisex fragrance and I would feel comfortable showering in it regularly. I imagine it would be particularly uplifting if you suffering from a cold.
Original source shower gels are among my favorite nowadays, both regularly on fair promotions and great scented makes a perfect combination for me to use them as my regular shower gels. They can be found in most stores as they are becoming more and more common and as long as you keep an eye out you can usually pick them up for around £1 a bottle which is a reasonable price for a branded bottle of shower gel nowadays.
The shower gel comes in a somewhat oddly shaped bottle which is usefully upside down making it much easier to get the gel to disperse the gel as the bottle becomes closer to being finished. The mechanism on which it releases the gel is also quite useful as it boasts an effective one way system similar to that on Lucozade sport drinks bottles, which prevents gel from just seeping it which it is able to do on some other products. The scent of the eucalypti is also quite strong and appealing which makes this one of my favorite shower gels, my girlfriend loves this one. In terms of actual cleaning ability this gel performs flawlessly as do the others in this line getting grime off quite quickly, it does sometimes take two applications for me (often covered in oil from motorbike) however this is better than some others i have experienced before.
Good dispersal mechanism
Can be expensive when not on promotion
The annoying little bit of air in the bottle at the top makes you feel like you have been robbed
In conclusion to this review this is definitely a product i would recommend to others, the great scent, availability and the fact that it can be picked up for so cheap when on promotion makes it almost a no brainer to not atleast try in my opinion.
Original Source shower gel products are for my money the best ones on the market currently as they offer users the chance to have natural ingredients used to create great smelling gels that cleanse with power but does the new eucalyptus and lime basil oil offering live up to the previous offerings?
Well packaged in a bottle that stands up on its own with no problems and easy to handle with little chance of it slipping from your hand no matter how wet the bottle or your hand gets. The bottle also allows for great control over how much you use each time so that this will last longer than others you can find. The cap being at the bottom also means that you needn't shake the bottle as you get to the end as the shower gel is always ready to pour and closest to the cap.
This shower gel leaves your skin feeling clean and fresh (although not as clean or fresh as other Original Source shower gels out there).
The shower gel offers great value for money as it is a shower gel that gives plenty of washes per bottle.
A fresh smelling fragrance on offer means that this is one that excited the senses too.
This shower gel is too watery in its consistency for my liking which for me makes it something which I don't feel as clean after using.
The fragrances of Original Source products are known for packing a punch but for me this one just seems to lack the power of the others in the range.
Being a fan of Original Source doesn't mean that you are going to love all of their offerings and this has been one that I have felt slightly let down by as it simply doesn't pack the punch of the others. The fragrance whilst nice is not strong enough for my tastes and with the watery consistency I also find it does not feel like my skin has been cleaned as well as the other ones leave my skin feeling. The positives are still there in terms of price and packaging but I can't honestly recommend this one as I would say to use others in the range ahead of this.
I am very fond of Original Source shower gels and find they really help wake me up especially in the winter when I''d rather stay in bed. As I am trying to declutter our bathroom it is great to have shower gel that husband and I both like. Also means I can take advantage of two for one offers!
Recently when shopping I spotted this product on special offer and as hadn't tried that particular fragrance thought we could try it out.
The colour as you might expect is green but a bit of a murky green so not that appealing from my perspective although I suppose does make it easier not to confuse with mint version. Also I had not realised when purchasing that the product is aimed at men so that may also explain the army green choice of colour.
The consistency as with other Original Sources shower gels I have used is nice as it is not too runny and does go a long way. This represents good value for money if you are budget conscious as I am. It foams up well and leaves you feeling clean and doesn't dry out the skin.
I usually associate Original Source with zesty powerful smell that help wake you up your morning shower. In the past I have used eucalyptus oil when have a bad cold and find it really clears my head so was expecting something similar. I was therefore slightly disappointed that this didn't pack more of a punch. It does have a pleasant fresh smell however doesn't wake me up as the citrus fragrances that we have used in the past.
Overall I think this is nice for a change and represents good value for money when on special offer but I prefer lemon version and will revert back to that. Currently on offer for £1 in Boots so may be worthwhile to try out now.
When I have used Original Source Shower gels before I have always been impressed by the strong scents that they have. When I saw this shower gel/shampoo on offer at half price, I bought it with great eagerness due to the price and my expectations of it.
--- The Bottle ---
The shower gel comes in a bottle that is exactly the same as the rest of there range of shower products. It is a plastic bottle that is 19cm x 3cm x 4cm in size that is clear through-out. It has a black flip cap lid on the bottom, which makes dispensation of it very easy. On the sides and rear of the bottle, it has a roughened texture which makes it a lot easier to grip when in the shower. This is a great feature that should be incorporated into more brands.
The front has a simple black and green label and the rear has a similarly coloured label that contains all of the product information.
--- The Usage ---
When I saw the cheap price and the scent (Eucalyptus & Lime Basil Oil), I was expecting it to have a lovely invigorating scent like the Lemon one that they produce. The gel does have a nice scent to it which is reminiscent of the stated scent, however it is not as bold and noticeable as others from the range. When in the shower it is not really that noticeable, which is a shame as I had great hopes for it. When you smell it directly from the bottle, it has a reasonably nice scent to it, however it is not that strong.
The gel is green in colour and isn't the nicest colour they could of chosen in my opinion. I have found that when you squirt some into your hand, it doesn't dispense a huge amount. This is quite good as it means that I don't use too much per washing, however I find that sometimes it doesn't dispense enough to build up sufficient lather.
It is meant to be usable on your hair, this I have only done once. I have found that it washes my hair reasonably well, but it doesn't leave it feeling too soft so I prefer to use separate shampoo and conditioner.
--- The Verdict ---
As a shower gel, it does seem to wash quite well and it has lasted me quite a while, despite using it nearly every day. As a shampoo, I'm not too keen on it, however I think it would be fine for people with really short hair. I was quite disappointed with the scent of it as it was not what I expected at all. I don't think I will buy this one again, however I am still willing to try others in the range as I have had good experiences before.
I am only giving this 3/5 as it was not what I expected at all.
Thanks for reading.
