Original Source is not as 'natural' or ethical as they make out

I'm really quite lucky that I tend to get given high end toiletries as gifts for birthdays and Christmas, the trouble with this is that they eventually run out. Due to my birthday being next month, it's usually about the end of May/beginning of June, that I start to run out. I usually stock up on Body shop products to use until I receive more goodies, but after reading some excellent reviews about Original Source products on here lately, and with them being on promotion in Asda at only £1, I thought I'd get some, see what all the fuss was about and save some pennies in the meantime. Hence my review features the Orange and Ginger Shower Gel from the range. The review listing is for a hair and body wash, but seeing that the packaging has changed slightly, and the fragrance is the same, I'm going to write it here. :) Funnily enough, I can't seem to find it on the Original Source website either, so either this is a new product or about to be discontinued. The 'bottle' as one has come to expect, is the familiar shape that even I recognise, never having used this brand before. It has a flat 'face' and a curved back. The transparent plastic outer is slightly textured so it's easy to grip with wet hands, in the shower. The bright orange colour of the contents immediately drew me in as I love anything fruity, and the statement on the front that '3 ½ juicy oranges are packed in' meant I was on to a sure fire winner, in my opinion. Opening the black plastic flip top lid, which is conveniently is at the bottom (no having to tip the bottom upside down to get the last of the dregs out then?), you are greeted with the most warming and inviting fragrance. It's mouth-watering. I love my food, and this could be edible - well oranges and ginger are aren't they? :) The ginger hit's you first off, and then you get fruity, zesty orange. There is one fault this with blend, you would think they would work together harmoniously, like some sort of Christmassy fusion, but they don't. You either get oranges or ginger, never a combination of both. You can feel the fragrance moving and changing but never intermingling, and sometimes when you're thinking you are quite liking the orange, the ginger comes along and wham, it's whacks you in the face and assaults your senses. This is most definitely a 'wake you up' invigorating shower gel, but oddly enough, this could be a 'had a hard day at work' have a shower and snuggle in your pyjama's kind of shower gel. While refreshing, it's warming and comforting too, it's a strange combination. Applying this directly to my skin, it doesn't give the luxurious foam that I like, but for the price, I didn't expect it to. Using my shower puff greatly increases the results but as I need to use less gel, I don't get that intense burst of fragrance for so long. It's six of one and half a dozen of the other so you have to weigh up what result you prefer more. The gel is quite thick so it doesn't try to escape from your hand, or run through the mesh of your puff either way you use it. After use my skin isn't dry or tight, and I think it's worked well considering that I usually use L'occitane products containing Shea Butter for the majority of the year. I do suffer from some dryness during the winter, from central heating etc., but being June, the summer is finally here (one lives in hope), and my skin is fine at the moment. This hasn't aggravated my skin or caused any irritation or redness, so all's fine on that score. The scent remaining on my skin after showering is purely ginger, no hint of oranges whatsoever which I'm 'slightly' disappointed about, so to remedy this, I usually apply a layer of Body shop Satsuma body butter, not because I have to, to combat any dryness you understand, but purely so that I can enjoy the orange and ginger combination for as long as possible. On days that I haven't had time or the inclination to use the body butter, the ginger fragrance lasts on my skin for a good hour, possibly even an hour and a half. Depending on what other fragrances and perfumes you wear, you might find that it clashes, with the scents sparring with each other. I tend to shower first thing as I get up, and by the time I've gone out the door the ginger scent is hardly noticeable unless I sniff my forearms (not that I normally do, but I had to check for research purposes), or just the orange scent of my body butter remains, It's not a problem for me. What is a problem though; is that my partner likes this shower gel just as much, if not more than I, and so it's going down rather more quickly than expected. I just need to point out that while Original Source products look 'natural' on the surface, with its vegan friendly claims, 100% natural oil inclusions, natural fragrances, packed with natural stuff, aromatherapy trade council certification, and tested on people not animals, all claims made in a tiny section on the back label, it's not as good as it makes out. On a score table from Ethical Consumer (ethicalconsumer.org) with the best bathing and shower products at 20, and the worst at 1, Original Source Vegan Shower Gel, scores a lowly 10. For your reference Green People (organic skincare products) scored 17, and Olay shower scored 1.5. If you are looking for green credentials it isn't bad, but it isn't good either. Would I use this product again? Yes I would, but I while I like the awakening fragrance, I don't love it as much as other fragrances in the range. It's a shower gel at the end of the day, and it serves its purpose well, with a lovely warming scent and even at full recommended price, I feel that I'd have got my monies worth. I'll definitely buy this again but for mainly for my Other Half to use, and I might just have to 'borrow' it occasionally. Four of out five from me.

        Disadvantages

This is a superb shower gel that offers great smelling, fresh and clean skin with every wash

Original Source is my brand of choice when it comes to shower gels and I love to have the range of different scents on my shelf to suit my mood so when I saw this beautiful orange coloured gel with the typical Original Source bottle shape I knew it was one I wanted to try but was it up there with the rest of them in providing excellence or was it simply a gimmick too far? Pros: The packaging for Original Source shower gels (for the main) are the same and provide a bottle that stands on its own with no issues which although something small is something I always look for when I'm buying these kind of products. The bottle stands on its lid so that you needn't worry about having to shake the bottle as you run low on the gel. The bottle is designed in such a way that it is easy to handle in the shower even when your hands and the bottle are both wet. The bottle is also simply excellent as it enables you the ability to squeeze out just the amount of shower gel you wish to use each time and so cut down on the amount you waste. This is a shower gel with a great consistency (not too watery so as to simply slip through your fingers but also not too thick so that you need to use a huge amount each wash) which is something I find allows for a great wash with you not needing to use too much of the gel each time. The orange and ginger fragrance to this shower gel is beautiful and fresh but with that little spice added so as to allow your nasal senses to be excited as you wash and for a couple of hours after too. Each time you wash with this your skin feels clean and fresh and more importantly refreshed as the natural ingredients used by Original Sources clean whilst remaining kind to your skin. The Original Source range all provide value for money and this is no exception as you use so little each wash that one bottle will last you for a good few showers. Negatives: None This is a beautiful smelling shower gel that invigorates and refreshes your whole body whilst exciting the senses. It leaves you with clean and fresh skin that feels like it has been treated to a great product rather than something full of chemicals and with this that is exactly the point...it uses only natural ingredients so means your skin is well looked after each and every wash. Great packaging and value for money all just add to the appeal of this product and it is for all these reasons and more that I highly recommend it.

a wake up in the morning!

Original Source offer a range of Fairtrade products such as hand wash, shower gel and other bath and body goodies. They offer vegan friendly products which are packed full of natural ingredients. {Orange and Ginger} The product I am reviewing today is 'Original Source Invigorating Hair and Body Wash With Orange Oil and Ginger'. This gel is marketed as being part of their range for men though is perfectly suitable for use by us ladies too! This gel is apparently suited to morning showers though could be used during your bedtime shower. The key ingredient is the orange oil. Each bottle claims to have the oils from 10 oranges present and Original Source claim orange oil helps with stress levels! Also included is ginger to boost the scent and promote well-being. {Design} Made from recycled plastic, the bottle housing this gel is clear and adopts a chunky, rectangular shape with the lid at the bottom. A label adorns the front confirming the product name whilst another adorns the back giving the essential product information. The bottle can be recycled and the gel should be used up within 12months of opening. {Price} This gel is provided in a 250ml bottle. Boots currently offer it at £2.05. Tesco offer it at £2.00. It is worth checking out the Pound shops and also Wilkos! {My Thoughts} I quite like the Original Source range so a few weeks ago, I picked up a bottle of this Orange Oil and Ginger Shower Gel from my local pound shop. I picked it up with my fiance in mind but have ended up using it myself! He did use it but personally preferred his Lynx shower gel so I claimed it for myself. Whilst marketed at men, I feel given the scent, anyone could use this shower gel. The bottle is sturdy and the dispensing hole being at the bottom allows less wastage. There is no missing this gel on the shelves. It is bright orange and very noticeable! The actual gel is fairly easy to dispense but the consistency takes a while to get used to. The gel is very gel like and resembles unset jelly in my opinion. It is gloopy, thick and if I give the bottle a shake, I can hear it 'slushing' about inside. With this in mind, it does get a little messy to use in the shower so I tend to use a small blob at a time to avoid any slipping through my fingers. {Lush Showering} On opening this bottle, the scent is very powerful. At first, I can detect a strong ginger aroma which is highly appealing. This is too messy to use with a body puff or sponge so I apply to my damp skin with my hands. It doesn't lather well but feels incredibly cooling and refreshing on my sensitive, dry skin. Massaging the gel into my skin for a short while, a light, fluffy foam is created but I personally prefer more in order to feel properly cleansed! As I rub this over my skin, a little goes a long way and there is a light, oily feel present on my skin. The orange oil smell becomes very evident and is very uplifting. It is the ideal morning or pre-work out scent. To be honest, whenever I use this shower gel, I think of a Lush product which also has orange oil. I cannot remember which one but it is very fruity and a real awakening aroma. I like this one first thing in the morning to perk me up! The ginger is infused well and adds a light spiciness and warmth to the fruity scent. There is enough there to add a manly touch to the scent but not enough that it would put me off using this as a girl! It also smells very natural and no hint of chemical aroma about it. The gel rinses from my skin with a quick dip under the shower. My skin feels soft, smooth and is gentle scented with a subtle orange trace. My skin ultimately feels very clean and the softness lasts for several hours. The scent lingers for around 2hours which is admirable. This gel can also be used for washing hair. I'm not a fan of using the same product for my body and hair but did try this out. My hair is a nightmare and due to how little this gel lathered, I didn't like using it on my hair. It made it quite dry and coarse. It did however, fully cleanse and soften my fiances short, normal hair so this aspect is definently for the men! {Conclusion} Despite the gloopy consistency, a small amount is needed to cleanse my body. I don't use this every day as sometimes I prefer girly, pink gels though if I need a wake up call before the nursery run, this is the ideal solution. It is a coffee, pro plus and a shower gel all in one recycled bottle! The bottle is lasting very well and the price is decent given the quality. It isn't one I would opt to buy and use all the time but if you can pick it up in the pound shop, it's an absolute steal! Recommended for men and women alike! Thanks for reading :)

Orange and Ginger - not just for men or redheads!

I have always been a fan of Original Source, as it prides itself with natural vegan products at an affordable price. I originally kept borrowing this shower gel from a male housemate, and I soon snapped it up when I spotted it in Poundland. I would argue this product isn't just for men, but unisex, its a bitter orange with a slightly spicy kick. I've found this makes it a brilliant product, if you are going away with a mixed group for a week and want to pack light, as taking this shower gel, meant we were all happy to share just the one bottle. I can't believe anyone in the UK has never tried one of these Original Source top down body wash/ shower gels. It comes in a tall approximately 25cm top down plastic bottle. The plastic of the main bottle itself is textured and quite thick, giving an easy grip with even the slippiest of fingers, and if you were to drop it there is no worries of the product coming apart. The top down lid, makes storage easy, particularly when coming to the end of the bottle. The cap flips up easily, and can be closed with a reassuring click. On the whole the product is easy to squeeze out, even when the bottle is nearly empty. This product is a hair and body wash, I can only comment on its uses as a body wash. My hair has a bit of a split personality, and is very particular about products, often only being happy with the expensive ones, so to keep my hair happy I just used this on my body. However, if me and a boyfriend were only going away for a few days and didn't want to bring too much luggage, it would be convenient to only have one bottle for hair and body. A small ten pence piece is needed to sustain a good white lather in both the hard and soft water areas I have used this shower gel. The gel itself is a warm orange, and is a good consistency, not too runny that it slides off a loofah, and not too thick that it is hard to massage into the skin. I personally find that the shower gel itself is not moisturising, but then again not drying, so I would certainly supplement with some form of moisturising product for the body. A whole 250 ml bottle can easily last me a month, showering at least once a day. The scent barely lingers on the skin for an hour or more, so I would layer with citrus/ spicy wood products to continue the experience, my current favourites are body products by The Sanctuary and Estee Lauder's Sensuous perfume. I'm a girl and is the scent too masculine for me? I'd argue no, I may be slightly biased as ginger is one of my favourite notes, but I think this smells great on me, particularly in winter. The sweet yet bitter citrus, is wonderfully combined with the unexpected kick of the Orange and Ginger, not overly spicy like the Lime and Sweet Chilli that came out after this. It is both warm and invigorating, perfect in autumn and winter mornings. I have tried this in summer and warmer weather, and is a little on the spicy side for me, in these months I prefer something a little fruitier and juicier. I'm a guy, are people going to say I smell too girly? I don't think so, this product is made with orange oil, from ten oranges per bottle, which really cuts the sweetness. Neither does the scent particularly linger, but could be amplified with the right bottle of citrus/ spice aftershave. As I previously said a group of us did use this on one holiday, as it suited all of our tastes, and we all really liked the scent it left in the bathroom, and the wake up we got when showering. Saying that this scent does remind me of Christmas, so I would prefer to use it around then, but I don't see why it couldn't be used in all seasons and by all ages. This particular body wash is not quite as easy to find as a lot of the Original Source gels, but it is often available in large supermarkets, chemists and some discount/ poundland stores. I highly recommend this shower gel, as Original Source have expertly toed the line between, spicy and fresh, yet warm and invigorating, giving me a gentle wake-up call in the mornings. Five stars for my favourite cold weather body wash!

            smells and feels great

This product is aimed at Men, but as a woman i love it!! I bought "original source MEN invigorating hair and body wash with orange oil and ginger" for my husband as i like products that are not actually perfumed but smell of fruits etc.., a little more natural. This product can be found at supermarkets and pharmacies and even the discount stores. I bought this product on offer at asda for £1 - bargain! Original source is owned by Cussons which also make other hair, body and beauty products, and is made in the uk. The packaging is plastic and is almost triangular in shape with the top cut off. It comes in a 250ml bottle and the product is encased within opaque plastic, the bottom of the bottle is black with a flip lid in which you squeeze the product out. As you are able to see above, the gel is a vibrant orange, and by only flipping the lid, the smell of citrus and ginger hits you, and smells almost edible. The black sticker on the front of the gel states the product and underneath, the fabulously catchy slogan 'start the day with a citrus boost' lies in a smaller font. On the back of the packaging you will find the directions and ingredients. It also claims and i quote " this product uses 100% natural essential oils, not synthetic fragrences or parfum and is not tested on animals" which is great, always good to know that it is not tested on animals. This product should be used within 12 months of opening and the recycling logo is present. The gel itself is thick and orange and really does smell of orange and ginger. It lathers really well and with the silicone valve on the inside, when you squeeze some out, it will stop any escaping gel, making the product last even longer. It leaves the skin smelling fresh and clean, without the dryness or greasiness that you can with some. In fact you can even escape from the fact that you are in your home shower if you shut your eyes and take in the smell. The smell is so pungent that the whole of my upstairs smells of the shower gel as it escapes with the steam. A lovely product, that i feel should say unisex rather than MEN, although it is not going to stop me from using it!!

              Nice quality product.

I am always looking for a bargain and special offers as it makes sense to save some money where possible and so when I spotted this product in Boots recently I decided to buy 2 for just £3 as the original price is around £1.90, which was a very good saving and since I had not tried this one before it was a good time to buy it to see if I liked it. It comes in a plastic bottle and the gel inside is very rich and the texture is nice and smooth on the skin, as soon as the top is removed the smell of Oranges is very apparent and although it has Ginger ingredient too, the Orange is more apparent to me. It is for the hair as well as the body and as it is a 2 in 1 product it is a nice one for me for my morning shower when I am in a hurry etc, it is easy to pour from the bottle which is a good size of 250ml, the quality is superb with this one, it glides over the skin nicely to leave it nice and refreshed, it also cleans in no time at all, it also lather very well. It is easy to rinse and the Orange fragrance stays on the skin for some time after use, and it has been fine on my hair and it has left it nice and soft too, I think for the price it is a super product and it tells me that it takes 10 real Oranges to make this product, which is a very large amount and there is no wonder it has such a strong, citrus smell to it. The bottle looks attractive, although I do not mind how a bottle looks but my wife quite likes a nice looking bottle in the bathroom for some reason and she has also tried it and is delighted with how it has washed her hair and body too, and she has found it to be also good for her skin and has left it feeling soft and refreshed. Some of my older grandchildren has also tried this one and they love it and so I think it is superb for all the family to use, not just the adults in the family, and so it can save money if it is a family one if you are on a budget as it can be quite costly, buying different products for all members of the family. What I really like about this one is the refreshing feeling it gives my body in the morning and it makes me feel awake and ready to face the day ahead, it is brilliant value for money and even better when bought on special offer. As it is an Orange oil the softness of the products really does glide over the skin and it can be felt while using it on a sponge etc and what I also like is the smell of the bathroom after my shower as the Orange is apparent for some time afterwards and this one really does give good value for the money and I recommend it for anyone to give it a try as I was very happy with the results it gave for both my hair and body. I rate it 5 stars.

                Disadvantages

Watch out for the hidden added chemicals!

This product is NOT 100% natural, despite the statement on the label. If you look at the ingredients, you'll see it contains Parfum, which has been shown to be harmful. I pointed this out to the company, who admitted there was an error on the package, which incorrectly states it does not contain parfum - it does. They also stated that the Original Source products are no longer guaranteed free from parfum and parabens, and that I should check the ingredients before buying. This seems a very underhand change to the product, which still has the same packaging and states that it's "natural". I noticed that their Eucalyptus gel does indeed contain both parfum and parabens, so be warned!! The company very generously sent me a £2 voucher for my troubles, so I won't be pointing out their errors again, but will just warn consumers of their change of policy.

                5/5

I first found this 'flavour' of shower gel in a box of free samples called the Matter Box which my boyfriend randomly got sent. We got a small bottle and both loved the smell and he allready loved the brand (being a mint and tea tree worshipper) so ever since we had been on the look out for a big bottle. This brand is often on offer and I actually wait until it is on offer because they are that frequent. We finally found this flavour in Tesco on 342 (told ya) so picked up 3 bottles for I think about £4. (one for me, one for him and one for spares!) I like this brand because all of the products are natural, are suitable for vegans and they do really refresh you after a shower (I dont like the mint one though - its too tingly). To me the best thing about this shower gel is the smell though. It is supposed to be orange and ginger flavour but to me it smells like the sugar barley sweets my granny used to give me when I was little. It is a really sweeet smell and you can sort of pick out the orange and ginger if you really try. It smells so good though that I often use loads in the shower just to smell it! I also end up using loads because I think it is relatively hard to work this into a lather and when I put it on my hand first, quite a bit ends up just clumping off into the plug hole - getting wasted, what a shame. I have even started using small bits but more often, rather than just squirting out all I want to use at once to try and minimise wastage. I can find that when you only want to get a small amount out, the valve thing at the bottom means you do have to squeeze pretty hard. The shower gel is a bright orange colour as shown in the picture. It is good though as it doesnt make you go orange! This means though that both my boyfriend and I will use it as he doesnt like to use my soap and glory things which are a bit girly and pink for him (double bonus for me.) The only thing that annoys me and this is only a tiny thing as I really dont care, is that this says for men on it. I dont think it is a particularly masculine product or smell so I think this is a bit of an oversight. maybe it is to make more men buy it, but I think that of the range, this is actually one of the more girly products. I still really like it and use it though!

                  Highly Recommended

Original Source Hair & Body Wash with Orange Oil and Ginger costs £1.92 from Tesco for a 250ml bottle, which I think is a pretty reasonable price. It's presently on offer at 2 bottles for £3, though I've noticed that this brand is more often on offer for £1 a bottle. That's when I tend to stock up on these babies of course. This hair and body wash is unisex really, though I think it's intended for men. How many women do you know who are satisfied with washing their hair with their shower gel?! So with that in mind, it's not surprising that it's got quite a masculine scent to it. I really like how this smells so spicy and yet sweet at the same time. The ginger and orange compliment each other surprisingly well, and this makes the whole bathroom smell really nice for a good hour or so after use. I like that this stays in my hair for a good day or so as well and even other people have noticed it. The texture of this stuff is thick, and a little seems to go a long way. You can tell that this product hasn't been watered to death just by looking at it, which is why it has to cost a little bit more than the Tesco own equivilant does. This produces a really good lather that effectively cleans all over. It leaves me smelling great and feeling nice and clean after use.

Original Source Hair & Body Wash with Orange Oil and Ginger Description: Brand: Original Source / Type: Body Wash / Cleanser / Mens shower wash. If anyone has read any of my earlier reviews (thank you very much, I really appreciate all reads, rates and comments!) then they are likely to already know that I love hair and body products and am frequently to be found perusing the aisles in the supermarket or chemist, to see what is new. It was actually Mr Siamese who first bought this product, claiming that it was for men and that I shouldn't use it! Well of course that was like throwing down a gauntlet where I was concerned and as soon as I went in the shower, I reached for this gel to see what I thought! The shower gel comes in 250ml bottles which are clear, allowing you to see the gel inside. The Original Source label is on the front and the bottle is designed to sit upside down, allowing the product to always be ready to squeeze out, even when there is only a little left. The lid snaps open and shut which is handy as it means it doesn't drop off and fall to the floor of the shower when you open it. The actual gel is a warm orange colour. A 250ml bottle will cost you around £1.99 and can be found in supermarkets and chemists along with other items in the Original Source range. The fragrance of the shower gel is great, it is a spicy orange scent with hints of ginger which really make you feel awake and alert. Although this is marketed towards men, it is a scent that I am sure most women will like too, as it isn't too masculine. The gel creates an okay lather, not as frothy as some products but certainly effective enough at washing you all over and leaving your skin feeling clean and fresh. I have sensitive skin and have had no problems using this shower gel. I tend to find that most products in the Original Source range have really enticing aromas and this one is no exception, the spicy orange fragrance is so nice that it will make you want to taste it, it is just a shame that it doesn't really linger on skin after you get dried. If you haven't tried this one yet, then you definitely should, no matter whether you are male or female!

                    Not Just For Men!

I have long been a fan of Original Source shower gel products, particularly their Lime shower gel and also their Mint and Tea Tree Oil shower gel and so thought i'd give their new male targeted product a try, Original Source Hair & Body Wash with Orange Oil and Ginger. Here are my thoughts on the product after having tried it over the past 2 weeks or so: Packaging The product has the same packaging as Original Source's traditional shower gel products, a clear plastic elongated triangle which allows you to see the vivid orange colour of the gel inside, with Original Source's distinctive black label and cap. It looks great, but doesn't always sit will in the shower tray (only a small gripe). Features Each bottle of Original Source Hair and Body Wash with Orange Oil and Ginger contains 10 real oranges. You really notice this when you crack open the bottle, it gives off a delightful citrus aroma, but you can also definitely pick up on the ginger extract. Think of it as a spicy orange smell. The fact that it's a hair and body wash rather than their traditional shower gels also means that you can have a one product shower, rather than swapping between shower gel and shampoo. The standard bottle is 250ml, I've had my bottle for 2 weeks and have just under half the bottle left. Verdict As previously stated the smell of the gel is great, and the citrus really gives you a boost when you stumble out of bed on a Monday morning. I would say however that it doesn't lather up quite as well as Original Source's other shower gels. This means that you have to use a little more to get the same effect as their other shower gels. Also agree with one other reviewer on here - I cannot see why the product is targeted only at males (it says on the back of the bottle "Male grooming isn't new - even Alexander the Great was into it"). This is a unisex shower product if I ever saw one, in fact my sister tried it whilst she was staying and loved it. It's not a particularly masculine product. All in all a great product which gets you clean and fresh and wakes you up, just be prepared to use a little more to get the lather levels up!

                      Shower gel

Both myself and my boyfriend are big fans of the Original Source range of products and a couple of times I have taken advantage of the free offer on their website to get to try different brands of their range of shampoo, conditioners and body wash products and our favourit are the tea tree and mint range however I was intrigued to see this Hair and Body Wash with Orange Oil and Ginger on the shelves in Boots as it was advertised as a product designed for men. Having tried the product myself I can understand why they would pitch it at the male population as it has a musky sort of smell to it however this is tinged with the fruity citrus essence provided by the orange oil and as such I found it to be quite appealing and something I would not hesitate to use in future, in fact I used about a third of the bottle over the couple of weeks the other half was using it. What I also liked about using it was the fact that it had quite a warming feel to it and was very nice on a couple of cold mornings when I showered. It comes in the traditional Original Source packaging, a stylish clear plastic angled container with a black base and the bright orange product is visible behind a black label with the distinctive Original Source white lettering. Overall an excellent product which left my skin feeling clean and smooth and it lathers up well so you do not have to use a lot with each shower.

                        A New One To Try!

A few years ago when Original Source were just starting out you could join their mailing list and each week for a few weeks you would receive free samples of their products to try. I used to eagerly await my lovely little parcels, and was always 100% delighted with the limited range they had then. Having gone from strength to strength the company now has probably one of the most appealing and exciting websites, which is as innovative and interesting as the ever expanding products on offer. www.originalsource.co.uk This review is about a product they have designed just for men. Most of their products are unisex, with some, like Tea Tree and Mint leaning towards the male user, and ones like Lavender more towards the female, but this one is really just for men. Called Orange Oil and Ginger this is not only a body wash, but it claims to double as a hair wash too! I purchased this for my husband and son, so with a 30 year age gap was able to accurately gage the opinions of them to represent both generations. The bottle is the standard Original Source container which is a tall triangular affair with the flip top lid at the bottom. It retails for £1.93 in Boots, but you may be able to find it on special offer elsewhere. According to Original Source "male grooming isn't new- even Alexander the Great was into it!" This is a bold statement by them, but I think they have broken into the market dominated by products like Lynx to make a refreshing an exhilarating set of products. There are two others in the range, Norwegian Sea kelp and Rock Salt and Eucalyptus and Basil. This Orange and Ginger Shower Gel has a wonderful aroma just like root ginger. It isn't the same as the weaker powdered form, but if you buy a root and slice into it and steep it in boiling water this is the intense smell that comes . This ginger root is what really gives the gel its kick, and the orange oil gives the gel a lovely amber colour, but as a perfume is not discernable at all as the ginger really overwhelms the fragrance. It smells like a new tray of gingerbread which has just come out of the oven on bonfire night-wonderful. Orange oil stimulates circulation and is known for softening rough skin. Ginger oil is sharp, pungent, aromatic, peppery and warm, and is great for reducing inflammation, so if you wake up stiff and achy this could be for you. it also reduces drowsiness and irritability so this could be great if you wake up feeling a bit bad tempered. It gets the brain going and stimulates appetite, so with a good breakfast the two marry toether to make a great start to the day. It cleans really well and both my husband and my son said it made them feel really refreshed and awake. It actually contains the oil from 10 oranges so the citrus content helps to ensure that just showered feeling. Hubby said he felt fresh all day, which is good as he works in London and is subjected to a 2 hour journey each day on crowded trains, and he felt he could still enjoy a faint after smell from the product, but this was reduced by his after shave. Both said to keep it out of eyes as it does sting, and both also said they would only use it as a shampoo in an emergency as it does not have the conditioning properties, so I would not give it 5* as certainly an alternative shampoo is needed by both who tried it. It is not tested on animals and they work closely with the vegan society and are members of The Aromatherapy Council. It contains no synthetic perfumes or fragrances. I think this is a product I would recommend to any man who fancies a change in the bathroom, it is great to waken you up in the morning, especially if like my boys you are sleepy and tired first thing. It isn't relaxing and isn't meant to be either, it's a citrus wake up call and a great one at that!
