“ Brand: Original Source / Type: Shower gel „
I'm a huge fan of Original Source products and have almost all of the shower gels out there from them and when I found out that they were going to be doing a limited edition selection I decided it would be worth a look so when I saw this for £1 I had to go for it and give it try but is it just a money maker or have they given this the quality touches of the standard stuff?
This Original Source shower gel is packaged in a new style being tried out by the company which uses 50% less plastics than the standard bottle which is an excellent idea but is it practical? If you are using this at home then it is a great one to have on your bath or shelf but for things like going to the gym or pool this is something of a slippery packaging type that is going to fall often so you need to ensure that the lid is securely shut so you don't literally pour this down the drain.
The shower gel itself is somewhat more watery than most of the Original Source shower gels but is still of a good enough consistency that you can use this and get a good few washes for your money.
The value for money on my purchase was excellent as I managed to get this for just £1 but even at normal price this is still something that will work out as giving you the washes you would expect for the money you are paying.
The smell of this is very nice with the lime and sweet chilli working well to create a very nice upliting experience during your shower but the fragrance does not last on the body after washing like some of the others in the range so if this is something you are looking for then keep this in mind.
The shower gel leaves your skin feeling fresh and clean which is all you can really ask for from a shower gel.
The consistency of this is not far off what the others in the Original Source range are but for me it is not quite there.
The packaging whilst using less plastic is not something I am a big fan of and I think if these are to be used then they should be refill packs.
Overall this is a good quality shower gel that has a great smell to it and leaves your body feeling clean and refreshed but for me it is not quite up there with the other shower gels in the Original Source range and with the style of packaging not something I am a fan of it simply can't get the full 5 stars but is still a quality product that is worth purchasing for a try/change.
I'm a big fan of the Original source products, having used the shampoo and tea-tree shower gel before. This product caught my eye because of it's unusual packaging. It reminds me of the blood transfusion bags!
With all the things you hear about global warming and recycling these days, I thought this packaging was good, as it is a lot smaller and uses less plastic, so is more eco-friendly. I'm not crazy about this packaging, although it is eco-friendly, it can be hard to get the shower gel out when there's not much left. It also struggles to stand up because of the thin plastic where a normal bottle stands up fine. I think these would be good for travelling as they're lighter and more compact than the normal bottles, but I'd be a bit worried about the packaging being ripped or punctured, and my things being covered in shower gel.
I use this product by wetting my scrunchie in the shower, and putting a walnut sized amount on, and working it into a lather over my body. It lathers quite well and you don't have to use loads of it to get a good clean. It smells OK. I'm not crazy on the chilli/lime smell, but it's not too bad. After the shower, the smell does linger for a while which is nice, and leaves you feeling clean and fresh afterwards.
I paid £1.50 for a 250ml bag of this which I think is quite reasonable as it does last quite well. It smells alright, and leaves you feeling clean afterwards which is what you want from a shower gel really. I probably won't buy this again because I'm not keen on the smell, and prefer some of their other products, but it's worth trying.
This is not my first original source shower gel, in fact I have two in this 'blood bag' style arrangement. Like the other style bottle this has 250 ml worth of product in it, but with 50% less packaging.
As far as the packaging goes, I am all for eco-friendly, but on balance I don't think it as good as the old style study top down bottles for the following reasons.
1. The shower gel is designed to stand up, but when you have a reduced amount of product this becomes difficult, and ends up lying flat, this can be inconvenient if you have a small shelf in your shower.
2. Similarly when the product is near empty it can be hard to squeeze the gel out as you don't feel like you have control over the cap, and you can miss putting gel on your loofah, thus wasting shower gel.
On the plus side it's great for travel, will fit in all nooks and crannies, and you can save a little bit at the bottom for one/two night breaks. However, the plastic does feel quite tough, but still feels thin enough that it could easily be punctured, so I'd wrap it in a plastic bag. The black cap is fine, it's safe, closes with a click. Standard.
Lathering ability: I have tested this one in both hard and soft water areas, and like all Orinigal Source shower gels is well above average. A small amount produces a good lather, and you feel quite clean. I don't find this gel a good moisturiser so would always use a separate body moisturiser.
The smell: This is not a unisex smell in my opinion. This should be in their men's range. I like their men's range, I regularly use the orange and ginger which is fab. This is more masculine. It is dominated by the chilli smell, which isn't that sweet, with a lime undertone. The smell does linger for an hour or so, not what I wanted. It reminded of the smell of salsa used to dip Dorito's in. This is not my favourite smell, but each to their own.
Price: RRP same price as the normal sturdy product for the same amount of product, but offers tend to be on the plastic heavy bottles, so I would still purchase them.
I've always liked Original Source. There's something about the scent of these that seems more natural to me and I've never been able to fault the way they clean my skin. So, after reading the other review on here about their new gourmet selection I couldn't wait till I could try them myself. (I am also reviewing the Cassis and Cranberry flavour of this product so some information may be repeated).
This gel comes in a clear plastic pouch with a black flip top lid. Printed on the front is a black rectangle which tells me that this is Original Source Lime and Sweet Chilli Shower Spice and that "50% less plastic helped make this pouch". Below this rectangle is a picture of chilli's.
There is a lot of information on the back but it basically tells you that it's from the gourmet range. There is a symbol to tell me that the packaging is recyclable. The shelf life is stated as 12 months but used daily I can see it lasting around 3 months. It also tells me that the pouch contains 250ml.
The plastic this pouch is made from is very malleable allowing you to crumple it up and squeeze the very last bit out.
Due to the design of the packaging my initial worry with this product was that when turned upside down the gel might just run through the hole or at the very least leak a little after I'd squeezed some out. However I didn't experience this at all when I actually used it.
Flipping the lid up is very easy due to a well placed indent allowing me to get my thumb under the lid easily. On opening the packet the smell immediately hits you, before I squeezed any out it just smelt like lime, I couldn't detect the chilli at all. Squeezing the packet is very easy and released a small blob of the gel onto my shower scrunchie. As soon as it was out the packet the chilli became immediately obvious, it was strong but not overpowering at all. I found it blended nicely with the lime giving it a very spicy edge.
The gel lathers up into a foam that feels very soft and moisturising. I found that just the one squeeze of the packet, which released a blob about the size of a two pence piece, was enough to do my whole body so although this may not be the cheapest shower gel a little really does go a long way.
The scent is very strong and easily filled my whole bathroom over and above any other bath products I was using at the time. I like this though as it meant that it should linger on my skin that little bit longer and should be able to be smelt over my moisturiser or any other products I use.
Rinsing it off was easy, as soon as the lather came into contact with water it just rinsed straight off leaving no residue just a gorgeous smell.
After stepping out the bath I immediately noticed how clean and fresh my skin felt. I didn't really notice any particular change to the softness or anything like that but it did feel particularly fresh and clean. Almost like the feel you get (or imagine you'd get!) after you've been on a long walk through a muddy field and just got out the shower after returning home.
The scent lingered all day although neither the lime or the chilli was particularly distinguishable it provided a generally spicy scent that was easily detected over my moisturiser and body spray.
This shower gel is Vegan but does contain SLS so probably one to avoid if you're sensitive to that.
This product has also not been tested on animals.
Pricing, Availability, Recommendations
I bought this from Boots but I believe it is widely available. It costs £2.04 for a 250ml pouch; Boots has it on offer allowing you to buy 2 Original Source shower gels for £3.
I love this shower gel and I adore the scent, although I also really like spicy scents and that's probably why I like this quite so much. It's not one that you're going to like if you're not a fan of spicy smells but for everyone else I won't hesitate to recommend this.
After receiving a huge bag of "smellies" from my sister for my birthday, I was delighted to find that it contained many products I had yet to try, with the subject of this review being one of them!
The product in question is - "Original source - lime and sweet chilli shower spice".
This is not only a scent I had not tried before but also came in a container that I had never seen before, with this particular design being that of a pouch with a small nozzle to squeeze some of the gel out for use.
The pouch is meant to save up to 50% of the plastic needed for normal shower gel bottles, thus making this a much better product for the environment, though to my knowledge the pouch itself is not currently recyclable in my area (Midlands).
The pouch is designed in such a way that it can still stand upright as a bottle does, even when almost empty, but is squeezy and supple enough to be able to squeeze every last drop of product from it, a pet hate of mine with rigid bottles!
The colour is visible through the almost clear plastic, being that of a very vibrant green, with the relevant information being found printed on the front and back of the pouch.
There is the brand name, product name, description and scent, directions for use and finally a short paragraph explaining that this particular scent is from the gourmet range, and has been designed to make your taste buds water, though of course this should never be eaten or drank, though admittedly it smells good enough to!
To use you simply squeeze a small amount onto either your hand, flannel or in my case a shower puff, which helps to create more bubbles with which to wash with.
The gel is quite thick in consistency and a small blob goes quite some way, with the scent being the most sensational part of it.
The scent is of course very strong and acerbically lime, being fresh and vibrant all at once, with you having to wait a few seconds for the chilli scent to break through the zest, though when it does there is a discernable bitter scent which is quite strange to be able to smell chilli but feel the heat that you would associate with it, though I would never have thought of these two scents going together, it really does work, creating a wonderfully different shower gel that would be ideal for both men and women.
Once this has been thoroughly washed from my skin, I found myself quite pleased that the smel of the two flavours are still present on my skin, and although I love a heavily scented bathing product, fruity scents are by far my favourite, and I found myself keep sniffing my arm to see if the scent was still there, which is was even after an hour!
My skin also felt incredibly smooth and fresh, zingy almost though I am sure that is more due to the scent that I was left with after showering.
Price wise this will cost you around the £2.00 mark, and is currently on sale at www.sainsburys.co.uk, with there being at least three different scents available (chocolate & mint and cassis &cranberry, both incredible!), with there undoubtedly being many more in the pipeline!

This is a fantastic shower gel that leaves you with a spring in you step an a zing in your vest, recommended!
