An invigorating and refreshing shower gel. Lathers and cleans very well, a little goes a long way and the scent lasts throughout the day. Whilst it's not the cheapest shower gel available, it shows.

      Great mint smell

I really like Original Source shower gels because I think they offer really good value for money. If you hunt around you can usually pick them up for only £1 and they have some really great fragrance combinations.

I also like the fact that they do loads that are designed just for men with eye catching colours and designs.

I love the smell of mint so this is one of my favourites that they do. It smells very minty as you would expect but it is such a natural and fresh smell that it works really well in a shower gel. It feels really refreshing on my skin and works well in the morning to help wake me up and get me ready for the day ahead.

It is a very cleansing shower gel. Sometimes they don’t make you feel really clean but this one does and after using it you feel like you have had a really good deep down clean. It’s great for after the gym to not only refresh you but to make you really feel clean and remove all traces of sweat.

One of the nicest things about this and most of the Original Source shower gels is that they give your body a slight tingling sensation when using them. It is a bit weird when you first feel it but it really works to make your whole body feel invigorated.

The gel itself is really thick and gloopy which isn’t the nicest feeling and you need to be careful when using it not to let it just drop through your fingers and down the plug hole as it takes a few seconds of massaging it between your hands to get a good lather going. Once you have though you do get a really good lather from it to wash yourself with.

It can be used on both your hair and body and actually works well as a shampoo. It is maybe slightly harsher than a normal shampoo but it is fine for using occasionally such as at the gym when you don’t want to take loads of different things with you. It isn’t drying on skin or irritating either.

Overall for a £1 this is a fantastic shower gel. If you like mint then I can’t see any reason as to why you wouldn’t enjoy using this.

Manly smell which will wake you up and clear your sinuses!

My boyfriend uses this body wash on a daily basis. We both love the brand, I have my own body wash of raspberries which smells sweet & girlie, and my boyfriend uses this body wash ... because it's manly.

He is the type of person who goes to the gym for 2 hours every day and works out hard (he has to because he does it for the both of us!) And as you can imagine, he doesn't come home smelling of roses ! I am SO grateful that there is this body wash in the world. Not only does it smell great but the smell continues after he's showered. He prefers to shower in the morning and this really perks him up and makes him feel invigorated for the day!

In our household we are quite thrifty, we are a young couple and don't have many savings so we are always looking for cost effective daily essentials. This product does tend to be on offer most weeks in our local Tesco's and for only a pound a bottle, it's hard not to stock up! The way that the bottle is shaped means that there is also very little wastage.

But the best thing about this is that in our small bathroom which gets very steamy after a hot shower, the room becomes a giant steamer and this body wash really clears up your sinuses!

A lovely minty shower gel that doubles up as shampoo

For Christmas me and my Husband received a large basket of various toiletries each from my Parents, we get this as one of our presents every year and it is extremely useful, lasts for a lot of months and allows us to try a range of different products. One product my Husband received was the Original Source For Men Black Mint Shower Hair and Body, although this is a product aimed at men I have also used this on several occasions and was drawn to it by the lovely fragrance so I decided to give it a go.

The Original Source For Men Black Mint Shower Hair and Body is a really dark green shower gel, this can be clearly seen though the clear plastic bottle that the product comes in. The first thing you will notice about this shower gel is the fragrance, it has an extremely strong minty smell to it, when I used this shower gel in the bath the minty fragrance was so strong I felt like I could almost taste the mint, and when my Husband has used it I can smell the minty fragrance as I come up the stairs (we have an upstairs bathroom)

The Original Source Black Mint shower gel is described as being ideal to wake you up and give you a boost, I used this shower gel in the evening when I had a bath and didn't really find it woke me up, however I can see how this could give you a boost and leave you feeling refreshed in the mornings as the minty fragrance really does hit you, however despite the really strong fragrance it is not over powering or unpleasant at all, personally I would rather use a shower gel that has a lovely strong smell to it rather than one that you can hardly smell.

When it comes to using this product you really do only need a small amount at a time, I have found that a small amount of a sponge (or whatever you choose) lathers up extremely well, I have not tried washing my hair with it however my Husband has and he said that again you need a small amount of this product and it creates plenty of lather to easily clean your hair. One bottle of this shower gel is proving to be extremely long lasting as you only need a small amount at any time.

Original Source For Men Black Mint Shower Hair and Body is available from stores such as Boots and the 250ml bottle is sold for £2.35 from here, although the price may vary a little depending on where you purchase it from. Personally I think this is a reasonably price for this product, it is not the cheapest shower gel on the market, however it is off an excellent quality and long lasting.

I have tried my Husbands Original Source For Men Black Mint Body and Hair several times now and have been impressed with it, I really like the strong minty fragrance that is long lasting on your skin, it really does leave your skin feeling clean and extremely fresh. Although this product is described as being for men I think it is something that some woman would like as well, however it is not really for the whole family, I think this would be a bit too strong for children. I would definitely recommend this product and would certainly use it again.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A slight twist on an old favourite

Original Source make fantastic-smelling shower gels. They also make a big thing out of never testing their products on animals and only using natural ingredients in their gels. They're Vegan-friendly too, if that kind of thing is important to you.

One of their latest lines is a shower gel called Black Mint. Seeing as I have been using (and absolutely loving) their Mint and Tea Tree flavoured gel for years I though that I'd probably like this one too. It was £2-20 at Tesco (October 2013) although the RRP is around a pound more.

If you've used any Original Source shower gels before (and if not, then I'd heartily recommend that you do) then you'll know what to expect from the packaging and the gel inside. The wedge-shaped 250 ml bottle that stands on a black flip-top cap, allowing the gel to always run to the bottom; the see-through plastic that lets you always see how much is left; the thick, gloopy consistency of the gel itself; the strong smell; the pleasant but not excessive lather: all these are here as normal making Black Mint a suitable addition to the Original Source family of fragranced shower gels.

This one is indeed quite like the Mint and Tea Tree variety, but just a little bit "more" in several ways. It has a bit stronger smell, a bit darker colour, a bit more intense tingle. It the Mint and Tea Tree were a Polo mint then the Black Mint is a XXX Extra Strong.

The label claims that the gel is "Extreme Tingle" and I have to agree. The company claim that this is "the most potent shower gel we possess" and it certainly does make your skin prickle, especially when you rub it on. Be careful around your sensitive areas... unless, of course, you like them to tingle! What with this and the powerful minty-fresh aroma it's a great wake-up call for the senses but with the Mint and Tea Tree gel being one of Original Source's biggest sellers I have to question the need for this very similar product.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

This is a superb shower gel that leaves your skin feeling clean and refreshed after each wash

Being a huge fan of the Original Source range of shower gels and in particular the mint and tea tree one I knew as soon as I heard that there was an ultra strong mint one available that it was the one for me but was I right and if so why?

        Pros:
The fragrance from this is black mint and is extremely strong and invigorating. The smell stays on your skin for quite some time after you are done showering.
The gel itself is of a great consistency meaning that you only need to use a small amount each time you wish to shower and so cut down on waste and save money in the process.
This shower gel gives skin an amazingly thorough clean and really awakens your senses with the strength of the mint it is made from which for me is brilliant.
The design of the bottle makes this a simple to handle one with which you can easily control how much or how little you pour each time so as to cut down on waste. The bottle stands upside down so that the lid is at the bottom which enables for the shower gel remaining to always be ready to pour without the need for you to stand and shake the bottle for ages.
The colour of the shower gel is a lovely dark green which makes it look like it is going to be made of natural products rather than full of colourings and thankfully this is exactly the point Original Source regularly make about their products. This shower gel is full of natural products and ingredients which make it very skin friendly and leaves your skin feeling like it has been well treated.
This is a great value for money shower gel as a little goes a long way.

        Negatives:
        None

This is now strongly challenging the mint and tea tree Original Source shower gel as my favourite one available. I love the feeling that this leaves as it leaves my skin feeling awakened, refreshed and cleansed. The amazing strength of the black mint make this a great shower gel for that shower to wake yourself up in the morning and it will leave your skin smelling great for a couple of hours afterwards too. A product I highly recommend to anyone!

        Nice gel.

I like to use a refreshing shower gel in the mornings to wake me up and I also like to shower in the evenings too but I like to use a more relaxing one at night time so that it relaxes me a little bit more. I had never tried this gel before so I thought I would buy it to see if it was a good one or not.

The gel is housed in a clear plastic bottle and it only cost £2 for 250ml. I think for this price it is worth it because this one is a very well known brand and one that I do like a lot. The gel inside the bottle is a dark green colour, it is very rich and thick, it is very easy to pour from the bottle onto a sponge and it does not drip from the bottle because it has a rich consistency.

While showering it feels tingly on my skin, I really like the tingle feeling while showering because I then know it works well and this feeling then really does wake me in the mornings when I use this one. I think it is a nice one for my morning showers because it refreshes my skin and the smell of the gel is very minty. It is quite a strong smell and one that does leave the fragrance on the skin for quite some time after a shower. It does lather really well and has lots of bubbles and soaps up well in a way that I like a gel to work on my skin. The lather lasts all the time I am using it and cleans my skin very well indeed. I have used this one in the evenings too and it does feel nice for a night time shower, especially on a warm day to help cool the skin etc but I do much prefer this one to use in the mornings rather than at night.

This one has a smell that I think all men would like if you like the smell of mint. I quite like this smell because it is very refreshing and it helps me feel awake and it revitalises my skin. It is also very easy to rinse from the body too and leaves it feeling nice and clean. It has not left my skin with any irritations at all and has just left it feeling spotlessly clean.

The rich texture of this gel means that only a little is needed and just a small amount on the sponge is enough to clean the skin and so a little goes a long way for the price. I have been using it for a week or so and have found it to be one that I would buy again. It is nice one and one that I do recommend for the superb quality and good value for money.

        I rate it 5 stars.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A sexy and powerful shower gel that certainly lives up to expectations

The glowing deep green of the bottle calls to you from the supermarket shelf. It's not shy, bold letters exclaim that 8899 real mint leaves helped make it. That's some claim and I do wonder if close to 9000 mint leaves would even fit into a 250ml bottle. But it's all in the wording, they helped to make it.

What am I blabbing on about? Why it's Original Source shower gel and this time it's XXX. Now there's nothing naughty about this shower gel, the XXX just highlights the powerful effects this gel will have.
Original Source make a great range of bathroom gels, shampoos and such taking in natural ingredients. All of them look sexy in the shower and most smell fantastic.

XXX with its extra strong Black Mint certainly gives you an experience whilst soaping up. Let me tell you now, it refreshes the parts that most shower gels can't reach. Imagine sluggishly stumbling into the shower after a few the night before. One rub around with this on your body and you'll definitely be more wide awake than a kids TV show on TV AM back in the 80's.

It's a strange sensation; your skin feels like it's burning clean but with no pain. It leaves you with an amazing fresh tingle over some parts of your body; yes I'll say that the private parts are the most served by the green stuff.

On a hot day I would imagine this comes into it's own as it certainly makes me feel cooler once I step out of the shower. In the winter the extreme freshness of this shower gel might not pull you through the cold chill of morning, best switch to something else in that season.

The Bottle is very sexy, with a grainy plastic feel it's simple and stylish. As it's about 70% clear then you can see how much gel you've got left. Something other shower gels don't give you.

Cost wise I got mine for a pound from Morrison's, it was on offer so you may expect to pay closer to £2 in some other retail outlets. In one of our local poundland stores, they have a pretty good range of Original Source products for.....yes a pound so why not take a look in there. Posh people need not fear the poundland, they are accepting of all shoppers!

I would definitely buy this shower gel again, purely because it makes you feel fresh, clean and somewhat excited in the morning. Not many shower gels can do that.

            XXX Mint Shower Gel

            **Introduction**

Quite a while ago I read a review on dooyoo about a product in the 'Original Source' Shower Gel range which I had never heard of or seen before, the 'XXX Black Mint' and until yesterday had been unable to find a bottle of this anywhere. It seemed that this was proving itself to be elusive with Boots, Tesco and Superdrug selling every other variety in the OS range other than XXX mint, finally though I managed to find this available to buy in Asda and even though it cost just over £2.00 I knew I had to buy it. The original Mint shower gel is by far my favourite of any shower gels I have used in the past and as I love the smell of mint I figured that the claims that XXX mint would offer even more tingles and a refreshing, wake up experience and I couldn't wait to try it out for myself.

            **Bottle Design**

Packaged in the usual design for Original Source there's nothing really about this that sets it apart from the other choices which are available from the company. The colour of the shower gel in the transparent plastic bottle is very dark green and even before the cap is opened this looks as is if it's going to be 'minty'. "Breath Taking" and "Packs a Powerful Mint Punch" gives you some idea of what you are likely to expect and Original Source pitch this firmly at the male grooming market placing this in their 'Men' category. Perhaps ladies wouldn't be able to withstand the intense mintiness?

            **In Use**

Well I can't say I wasn't warned can I? On first application the shower gel foams up nicely, its thick consistency produces plenty of lather and naturally it does have very strong mint aroma which is more than noticeable. Rubbing the shower gel over my skin at first I didn't think anything was going to happen, I was prepared for tingles and an icy blast but the hot water seemed to just let the gel do what it was supposed to do, however, a second later it hit me. I don't know how Original Source do what they do and how they get their formulations just right but the claims that this packs a powerful mint punch are absolutely correct, once the gel is soaked into the skin a little you can feel the cool gel start to spread and it really does give an icy blast which can only be described as startling. This of course is probably not everyone's idea of a good time but on a morning when you are feeling sluggish are really can't be bothered to face another day there really is no better way to kick start your senses and waken you up. I always thought the original mint shower gel could tingle on the skin but XXX mint *really* tingles and I find it to be an invigorating experience.

The good thing about this gel is that you don't need to apply much to a sponge or your hands to generate a decent amount of lather, obviously the more you use the more intense the experience will be so my advice would be start off with a little bit and see if you can cope with it. Some may consider this to be a masochistic way to waken yourself up and probably think I'm crackers wanting to put myself through this on a morning but I like to feel bright and awake once I have showered and XXX mint certainly does that for me!

I don't know why this is quite so hard to track down on the high street (at least it is where I live) looking online I see that it can be bought from Boots and other places so it is a current line in the Original Source inventory. Maybe I've just been looking in the wrong places? Marketed as a "Men's" product it may not be as high profile as the less shocking choices in the range but now that I've found this I will continue to use it and hope to find it again in the future when my bottle has run out.

            **Conclusion**

I know this won't be for everybody but I love it so from me Original Source XXX mint shower gel receives a perfect five star rating. It costs around £2.00 when not on offer if you can find it and of course comes highly recommended by me. Thanks for reading my review.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

May be too strong for some to handle!

In the world of today's obsession with 'elf and safety, (and bizarrely, nut allergies) I find it amazing that this product has not been banned under the International Treaty Against Biological Weapons and that you can buy it in a shop without having to show your passport, proof of address and a signed Doctor's note saying you are of sound mind.  This is because, when applied to the skin, this shower gel is as subtle as using a chainsaw to open an envelope.

To be fair, there is a 'triple X' printed on the label, and if in a different category triple X means 'adults only', then it would be true to say that its not particularly a good idea to let young children use this product on their sensitive skin - they may just feel like you've set them on fire.

The strength of feeling you get on the skin comes from the amount of black mint used in the gel - anyone familiar with Original Source products will already know that they pride themselves as a company on producing naturally inspired products packed with essential oils and real ingredients, not synthetic alternatives where possible - all of which is vegan friendly.  (Although a vegan I know wasn't very friendly after washing his freshly shaven face with this product.  We only refer to it now as the 'burnt face' incident!).

The label on the back warns out watching out for a 'tingle'.  That is akin to saying that standing barefooted on a drawing pin may feel slightly uncomfortable, or that Adolf Hitler was mildly unpleasant in his views on race.  When using the shower gel, get ready for firstly a burning sensation (acutely noticeable in the 'special place'), followed by a super cool chilled blast when you have rinsed and towelled off and walk to your bedroom wrapped only in a towel whilst being able to feel a draught on your skin which is heightened by the menthol / minty ingredients.

As minty and as strong as this product is, I would definitely recommend it to those who like to wake up with a shower in the morning and have a masochistic streak wider than the Severn Estuary.  As a shower gel, it cleans very well, lathers up nicely and does leave a clean scent of mint on the skin, so a full five stars there.  However, I will knock off a star from the overall product rating for the reason that I feel they've overdone it with the strength of the mint content.

Price-wise, I frequently see this shower gel on offer for a pound a bottle, or sometimes as a BOGOF in a couple of the well known supermarkets, so shop around!

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

One of my favoured shower time products

This Original Source Black Mint Shower Gel is currently priced at £1.92 for 250ml on the Tesco website, I think this is a fairly reasonable cost for a branded product but you can find it even cheaper when it is on offer. I tend to buy whatever product is reduced or in a promotion, I am not really loyal to one brand in particular because apart from the scents or the fragrance, being a man they all seem to do pretty much the same job to me.

The bottle is transparent with a black flip top lid making the liquid easy to apply to your body. Unlike some shower gels the lid is at the bottom when you stand it up, this is great as it means the gel runs towards the lid rather than away from it and so you do not have to struggle like you do with some bottles when there is not much shower gel left. Also as the bottle is clear and the liquid is a really vibrant green you are left in no doubt as to how much is left in there.

The brand label describes this as breath taking XXX shower with extra strong black mint. It goes on to state that this product packs a powerful mint punch. These claims I feel are extremely justified, even when you open the lid you can smell a really strong fragrance of mint. The liquid lathers up well and is really refreshing and cool on your skin, the scent lingers in the bathroom and on your body for a quite a while. It leaves me very importantly feeling clean and awake. It is strong and it really does pack a mint punch like the label warns especially on more sensitive areas of your body, but it is refreshing none the less. I always enjoy using this in the shower whenever I purchase it.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

If this doesn't awake you get someone to hit you in the face whilst you have your morning shower!

From the first time Original Source brought out their organically prepared, vegan friendly (like all of their products) mint and tea tree oil shower gel I was one of many buyers who hopped like mad, screamed in the shower and probably woke others in my shared student flat as the strong mint singed and burnt nether regions! With hot sensations of mint that would lessen over time due to use, it was the same with their associated shampoo that left my scalp freezing with cool mint. No fault of mine really, I don't go out of my way for an early morning kink - I just adore mint in general. I chew mint gum, I've had mint candles, I adore my Wild Mint White Company home spray and I drink mint tea. It was no surprise that when Original Source finally got it right their existing mint and tea tree oil shower gel recipe hasn't been as searing in the shower and more has been added to the scent rather than strength despite extra advertising to emphasize how many crushed leaves have been added, all 7927 of them.

So when I saw the Original Source "Black Mint XXX," for Men shower gel recently, I was interested as well as intrigued. Designed in the same chiseled frosted and thick dimpled "block of ice," quality plastic bottle (or resembling a Llama's tooth turned upside down, depending on how you look at it) I couldn't wait to try this product at home. Along with the bottle comes the usual jovial stance that Original Source put into their contents on the back of the bottle and unless you're a grumpy old fella you'll soon grow a grin when you read the back of the bottle which at best is enticing rather than appealing. For example quoting Alexander The Great to prove to mankind that he was also into Male Grooming. My main fear however was that this product would turn out to be like the Original Source Mint shower gel mk 1. Well the price offer for starters was most welcome. Where normaly it costs £1-98 at my local Morrison's supermarket, this product along with several other versions currently retails for just £1 per 250ml bottle.

Armed with that info I took one bottle of this product and one of my favourite Lime Original Source shower gel, since I have many bottles of the standard mint shower gel at home. The packaging is minimally different to the standard bottles of the mint shower gel though, the only difference being a black label, white writing and boldly showing off "XXX" to act as a Nestle's like "Yorkie," Men Only packaging and showing "Black Mint," on the main label. It doesn't work terribly well though - my mum saw the same shower gel in the same supermarket a few weeks later and mistook it for some kind of fancy shampoo. OS claim that whilst this may be a product from their new shower gels for men, it is not by default purely for men even though the colour of shower gel has changed to dark green to emphasize its potency. I suppose anyone could buy it and get away with it being in his or her bathroom, man or woman!

The good news is that upon application in the shower I was overthrown with waves of stronger mint hitting back at me; sometimes slightly too piney and peppery but definitely a step up from their standard mint shower gel and it woke me up in milliseconds when used first thing in the morning. This is one hot mama here where the scent is huge and enveloping! There is no burning sensation to this shower gel though so thankfully it is not a remake of their Mk1 Mint shower gel (there I go again wishing for a kinky shower) and it offers no dry skin moisturisation let alone anything else other than feeling fresh. Feeling fresh was something I definitely felt as I toweled down, my skin was left glowing albeit not smooth or soft.

The gel does lather up well but like most of the OS range it doesn't go into thick foam but rather, an airy fairy light lather consistency. Once it is rinsed off my skin (and the gel takes little to wash off) my skin didn't feel smooth or soft, but rather glowed from the mint once I had basked in the stuff. The difference with the standard Tea Tree Oil and Mint shower gel is that the latter leaves skin feeling slightly softer. There are warnings on the bottle if you get this stuff in your eyes and if you do, god help you! Rinsing with water is the neccessary advice but my best advice is don't wash your hair with this shower gel as it left my scalp itchy and full of dandruff afterwards.

So if you've just been doing sports or need something to refresh you, Original Source's XXX Black Mint for Men will surely awake you and thanks to its dimpled and tactile bottle even if it doesn't have a shower hook, it is a most practical shower gel to take with you to the Gym or similar exercise establishments. It is a much better shower gel than OS's Capsicum and Dragon Fruit shower gel which made me smell like off-Red Cola! At work I could still smell the mint on me for example and for a good few hours coupled with my aftershave I was one seriously cool dude! Thanks for reading. ©Nar2 2009
