“ Brand: Original Source / Type: Shower Gel / Suitable for: Body „
I've used Original Source shower gels before and been very impressed with the products and the brand. In fact, if I could afford it I would buy these gels a bit more often. I was shopping in my local independent grocery store recently when I saw that these Original Source Orange and Cinnamon Shower Gels had been placed on the reduced stand and were priced at only 80p, a significant saving on their usual price. I couldn't believe no one had snapped them up but I was quick to buy one. I had never tried this variety before but having used other 'flavours' in the gel range I expected to be satisfied with my purchase.
This product comes in a recyclable transparent 250ml sized plastic bottle. The bottles have a unique shape that looks a bit like a door wedge. They are designed to sit on their caps so the liquid inside is always near the dispensing hole. The cap is actually a flip style cap which has a large lip which curls onto the side of the bottle. It's easy to open and once shut is secure. The dispensing hole is a good size to ensure easy squeezing!
I really love this brand's identity and the way they style their products. The design on the bottle highlights brash and bold text revealing that this particular variety was "picked by you". The huge font makes the brand look super confident. On the back of the bottle the references to their Facebook page makes this brand seem 'in touch' with current trends. Original Source's ethical stance is also impressive and on the back of the bottle there is a little table which is stamped with little pictures to show the consumer what they stand for. The most important stamp is probably the Vegan Society stamp which means that this product has not been tested on animals nor are there any animal derived ingredients. The brand also point out that the product contains natural ingredients and fragrances, that it is made in the United Kingdom and that their plastic is recyclable. Full ingredients are also listed on the label.
I've tried several different fragrances in this shower gel range but the Orange and Cinnamon sounds the most exotic of all the types I have used before. According to print on the bottle this variety of gel is a "seasonal edition" so it's possibly an autumn/winter release. I do think the overall appearance of this particular product would suggest that this Orange and Cinnamon variety is aimed at men but having used the gel I can confirm that it is suitable for both sexes.
The gel is a vivid orange colour. As soon as you snap open the flip cap you can smell the gel. It's an insanely strong blend of zesty orange fruit and warm, spicy cinnamon. The gel flows out of the bottle like honey and has a thick, creamy consistency. You can use the gel in a number of ways. If you want a small amount of bubble and a steamy aroma then you can add a dash to bath water. Otherwise, to use as a wash gel apply direct to the skin or to a sponge or shower applicator. I like to apply to my shower 'flower' as I find it helps lather the gel very well. I don't need to use very much at all to create enough foam to apply to my entire body. The bubbles have a slightly orange tinge to them which is quite thrilling to see! It feels like a luxury to be able to use this gel! It cleans my skin very well and makes me feel renewed.
The fragrance, of course, is utterly divine and is possibly the most unusual and unique shower gel fragrance I've ever encountered. The blend of zingy citrus and smoky cinnamon is brilliant and unexpected. It's a really strong, warm and refreshing fragrance that enlivens the senses and makes me feel happy as I'm bathing! The fragrance is strong enough to fill the room as you use the product. It also remains on the skin after drying and makes me smell wonderful and fresh.
Ultimately this product is very impressive and I feel it's one of the best varieties of shower gel that Original Source produce. I will definitely try and buy this in the future although it's regular price is £2.20 a bottle. I have seen it occasionally on offer for around £1 though and some stores often do '2 for the price of 1' offers. I would certainly recommend this to anyone, woman or man, who likes pampering themselves. This won't disappoint you!

Original Source Orange and cinnamon Shower gel
Original Source state that they only use 100% pure and natural essential oils this statement is clearly visible on the website and on the product packaging. They do not use any synthetic perfumes, the scent in their products comes only from these essential oils which have a very strong smell..These ingredients are extracted from plants as they provide natural scents and essential oils which are better for us and the environment too. Essential oils are known to have physiological and psychological effects and many people believe they can help improve health. However If you are pregnant you should always check with your midwife or GP before using any products that contain essential oils.
My bottle of Orange and cinnamon Shower gel is in a clear plastic bottle with a black flip top lid, which is really easy to remove and replace. The bottle is a strange shape, square edged but tapered to thinner at the p which I suspect was designed to make it easy to stand up safely on bathroom shelves and on the sides of the bath. Without the chance of tipping accidentally and this does do the trick. Clearly written on the front of the bottle are the words Original Source in black then Orange and cinnamon Shower gel and PICKED BY YOU in orange. On the back label there is all the blurb about the ingredients and that the bottle is recyclable plastic.
Inside the bottle, the shower gel is a strong bright orange creamy colour. The advantage of the clear bottle is that it needs no decoration, the product shows itself off.
As you remove the lid from the bottle the smell is really quite strong and very orange but the cinnamon is not at all obvious to me. I was rather hoping for something smelling a bit more like a Christmas pomander, the sort that you make with cloves and an orange. It is very nice, a lovely fresh orange 'wake you up' sort of scent.
What is it like to use?
Okay down to what it is supposed to do. What is it like in the bath? Well I always have a sniff as I open the lid and pour out the lovely creamy orange coloured thick liquid into my bath or more often I use it as you would a shower gel straight on to my skin, lather and then rinse off. The smell is lovely and ornage like and quite fresh, not much cinnamon at all in my view.
After I have enjoyed a bath with this my whole bathroom is filled with the lovely warm steamy smell of warm orange which is quite sweet but also quite fresh and fruity. As our bathroom is next to our bedroom is provides a lovely room freshener as well.
After my bath I feel nicely refreshed so I tend to use this in the morning although it isn't really too uplifting so I do also use it at night too. I do suffer with dry skin and eczema and this has no adverse reaction when using this.
A bit about the company ethics :
Original Source products state that they do not test their products on animals or use any products that have been tested by any other third party .They are also registered with the vegan society and are also a member of the aromatherapy trade council all of this I found on their website.
A niggly bit:
Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate are both listed in the ingredients on this bottle and indeed you will find this in almost all products that produce foam. This is a controversial substance, which has been linked with carcinogens and is avoided by those who prefer natural products. This does not go with the natural claims of this product but I do know it is actually pretty difficult to find any bubble bath that doesn't contain it. However if you are one of those who really strongly believes in totally natural products then this may put you off.
I love this bath foam as the smell is true orange and a nice warm comforting aroma. My skin has never had an adverse reaction to this product and the smell stays gently on my skin as I dry myself off and lasts for a while after I'm dry. It is not so overpowering that you could not bath with the then use another perfume to wear out - it is strong in the bottle and the bath in use but does not remain strong on your skin. I always feel nice and sweet smelling and refreshed after my bath when using this. I would say that this is a product that would suit both men and women as it isn't overly sweet not too spicy either! My husband has not been tempted but is happy to share my bath after I have used it!
I'm not sure of the price as I got this some time ago and I believe it I one of their limited editions so may not be available everywhere.
Thank you for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name.
I love my Lush shower gels, but I am also attracted by other brands every now and then. One brand which has caught my eye in the past is Original Source: their products are widely available in supermarkets, Boots, Superdrug and other stores and are excellent value for money. I obtained this 250ml shower gel for just over £1 on special offer. The brand is also known for using natural ingredients and being better for the environment than many other brands: it is suitable for vegans and has been made with 100% natural fragrances.
The scent of this product was actually voted for by fans of the brand. Cheerful orange in colour, shown off to great effect in the clear plastic bottle, this shower gel is scented with orange and cinnamon which is an ideal festive scent. The citrusy orange is refreshing and uplifting while the cinnamon adds a touch of spice and warmth.
This shower gel is easy to use owing to the flip-top base. It lathers up very well on my shower puff, and I don't need to use loads, although I do use more than with my Lush shower gels. The gel is very pleasantly scented: I don't like it as much as the Almond and Cherry shower gel which I've been using alongside it, but I do like it. The orange aspect is refreshing and ideal for cold wintry mornings, while the cinnamon part is warming and spicy, adding a festive kick.
Though the shower gel isn't moisturising, I find it is fairly gentle on my skin and doesn't dry it out or cause me any irritation. Unfortunately the smell doesn't really last on my skin after my shower, which is a bit of a shame, but I use body lotion anyway, and that has a scent of its own.
I highly recommend this special winter shower gel: it's unusual, citrusy and comforting, and bargainous too!
Shower gel is something that the vast majority of us use. I remember back when I lived with my parents we always used to get really boring shower gels that were either called sport or relax. All that changed when I moved out of mum and dads and into my own place, now I tend to buy a new shower gel every time. One of the latest ones I've gone for is this one, the Original Source Orange and Cinnamon shower gel. They were actually on offer at Tesco, two for £2 so I actually ended up buying four different ones. I have had Source shower gels before and always liked them, so I was happy to give these a try.
So what is this one like? Well it's got a great smell to it, really tangy and fresh. I would not think of putting orange and cinnamon together but it seems to work very well. The orange is the first smell that hits you and it is very powerful whereas the cinnamon is a lot more subtle. When using the shower gel the smell seems to last for a long time after you have wash and dried and got out the shower.
One thing that I tend to look for in a shower gel is how well it lathers up. To be honest this one is not the best and it does not soap up that much. That said it does feel like it is cleaning well and I do feel like it does what it is designed for, that being getting me clean.
The packaging for this one is also quite nice, it's a nicely shaped bottle and looks good on the shelf. Some shower gels have a little hook so you can hang them up, this one does not have that although that does not bother me. The lid clicks down fairly securely so there is no real chance of leakage unless you don't put the top down properly.
The price of this is usually around £1.70 but as I mentioned I got to for £2 which makes them very good value indeed. The bottle seems to last for a fairly long time so this means you get good value for what you have bought. I think there are other source shower gels that I like a little more, but this one is certainly right up there, if this one was on offer again I am pretty sure I would buy it again as it's one I really like. With the weather getting warmer now this really is a perfect shower gel for use in the summer. If you want something that is going to smell great and get you clean, you don't need to look much further than this one.
My fiancé actually picked this up a couple of weeks ago and I use it whenever I have a shower, which isn't that often as I prefer baths. I think he got it on offer but the retail price is £2.30 for a 250ml bottle, which is pretty good value in my opinion and the bottle is still over half full after about 2 weeks.
This shower gel is part of Original Source's winter seasonal edition range and it has a cinnamon & orange scent. It comes in a plastic bottle which is a triangle kind of shape and it has a flip top lid. The plastic is pretty solid so it's not that easy to squeeze, but I don't find this much of a problem because the product comes out when the bottle is tipped upside down and squeezed slightly.
The bottle is transparent so the bright orange gel can be easily seen which is very eye catching. The shower gel has got a very thick texture which isn't runny or anything, which I like as it means that non of it drips off of my shower puff/skin while I am using it so non gets wasted. The shower gel lathers up very easily and provides lots of foamy bubbles and it washes off easily, leaving no residue behind. It leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh, however my skin never feels any softer, smoother or hydrated.
The smell of this shower gel is what lets it down. My fiancé likes the smell, but I really don't like it at all because it is way too strong. I was expecting it to be a nice balance between orange and cinnamon, but all I am able to smell is the cinnamon with a tiny hint of artificially sweet smelling orange. The smell is not at all natural and it lingers on my skin for a good half hour after I have used it, so I always feel the need to use a heavily scented body butter to mask the smell of cinnamon.
All in all this is an average shower gel. It leaves my skin feeling clean and it has a nice thick texture but because I don't like the smell and because it doesn't leave my skin feeling any softer or anything I am not that keen on it.
Two out of five stars.
I absolutely love Original Source and when they release a new product in their range I am always quick to try it out. They have had such extraordinary different flavours , some work, some not so much, but regardless they are always fun and interesting! A few weeks back I noticed this orange and cinnamon shower gel which is one of their seasonal editions and couldn't wait to give it a go. I bought it in Tesco half price for around £1.10.
Original source is owned by Cussons u.k. They make a variety of different shower gels, bubble baths, hand wash, hair care and scrubs. Many of their products are made using natural ingredients, they never test on animals and claim to never be wasteful. They claim to source as much of their produce from the u.k and the products themselves are all made in the u.k. So, all in all a company that seems to be doing their bit to be ethically and environmentally responsible.
The bottle itself is plastic and recyclable. It is an upside down squeezy bottle, which makes dispersing the gel extremely easy. The plastic is clear, which enables the user to see the colour of the gel inside, this particular "flavour" is a very bright orange.
On the back we have all the usual information including ingredients and some general warnings (eg. Keep out of eyes etc). Once opened, the product must be used within 12 months. There is also a Vegan society sign, made in the UK British flag sign and recyclable plastic sign. Plenty of Information is given about Original Sources Facebook page where consumers can vote for the next seasonal edition.
Unfortunately I haven't been overly impressed with this offering from Original Source. Firstly I find the fragrance rather artificial, it certainly doesn't have the fresh natural fragrance I have come to expect from this brand. To be honest I can barely detect the orange as the cinnamon is just too over - powering, I would have preferred this to be a little more toned down. The smell lingers on the skin for quite sometime, as I am not overly keen on the fragrance this is a rather negative aspect for me. I also dislike the gels consistency, it is really thick and sticky, in fact it rather reminds me of the "silly putty" I used to play with as a kid. I find it quite hard to wash with as bits of the gel keep flying off and sticking to the tiles. It does lather up rather well though and produces some nice white fluffy bubbles and my skin is left feeling fresh and clean. Whilst using this product I have never experienced any adverse reactions, it has not irritated my skin.
I felt that the orange and Cinnamon shower gel was a bit of a let down really and its not one I would repurchase in the future.
I like to mix and match and try new shower and bath products as it gets boring using the same stuff all the time and it's nice to have a change. I quite like the Original source brand as they do brightly coloured shower gels that have very distinct smells to them. I've tried the green minty scented one and I've smelt the chocolate one too in the shop and it smells lovely! They're always quite creative coming up with unusual scents that other brands don't make so they're quite unique.
Some of the other shower gels from this range include mint and tea-tree, lavender and tea-tree, lime, canilla and raspberry, blackpepper and chilli, chocolate and mint and lemon and lime. All of the shower gels come in a clear 'upside down' plastic bottle. The lid flips open for easy use and the clear packaging makes it easy to see how much gel you have left. The Original Source logo is on the front in black and white letters with the 'flavour' of the gel written on the front in big letters. There's some basic info on the back giving a guide on how to use it.
The shower gel itself is quite thick in consistency though it squeezes out of the bottle quite easily. It's not too runny so it doesn't go everywhere except where you want it. You can immediately smell the cinnamon with a hint of orange and citrus underneath. The cinnamon smell is quite strong which I quite like but may not be to everyones taste. I put a walnut sized amount of this shower gel onto a scrunchie in the shower, wet the scrunchie and wash away. I find that it lathers really well into really lovely smelling bubbles. The smell of the shower gel fills the bathroom so you can tell if someone has used it when you walk in the room. It lingers on your skin afterwards too which I like. It left me feeling nice and clean and refreshed.
I found that a little of this shower gel actually went quite a long way which means it lasts quite well too. Original source shower gels can be found at most large supermarkets, chemists and stores like Boots. It's normally priced around £2.30 a bottle though it can be found on offer for as little as £1 if you shop around.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend both this shower gel and the brand as a whole as I've tried a few of their shower gels and they're lovely bright colours so they look nice in the bathroom, they leave you feeling lovely and clean, they have unusual scents which linger and they're not too expensive when they're on offer. A great shower gel.
Overall the Original Source Orange and Cinnamon shower gel is cleansing, refreshing, lathers well, contains natural ingredients and isn't tested on animals. However it's not a scent that I'm likely to want to try again.
~Orange and Cinnamon Shower Gel~
This scented shower gel is one of many offered by beauty brand Original Source. It is marketed as being a seasonal release but is still available in shops at present. This shower gel hasn't been tested on animals and is vegan friendly. Original Source state that this shower gel is packed full of natural ingredients and fragrance. Your skin will be left clean and soft after using it.
This shower gel is presented in a standard, Original Source bottle - a simple, tall plastic container with a flip cap at the base. The bottle can be recycled and this shower gel has a 12month shelf life.
~Price and Availability~
A 250ml bottle can be found in Tesco priced at £1.10 at the moment. It is usually priced at £2.20. Other stockists include Boots where it is priced at £2.30.
I am a fan of the Original Source brand and also love trying new products. It is fair to say that I also love the smell of both orange and cinnamon so just HAD to try this shower gel. I bought it on a half price offer. The packaging makes this a very simple to dispense product. The bright orange liquid is eye catching and natural looking and as soon as I flip open the cap, I am greeted by a lovely, zingy orange scent.
I shower twice a day most days and like to use certain 'scents' for morning and others for the evening. I would normally consider orange to be best suited to a morning shower as it is a refreshing scent but the cinnamon pushes it to be more suited to an evening shower as it is warm smelling. Personally, I have used it both morning and evening but it has to be one that I am in the mood to use. It does take you aback with the first use.
You do get a lot for your money and only a small blob of this slippy, reasonably thick shower gel is required to fully cleanse my skin. I dispense a blob onto my shower puff and this encourages it to lather up more than if applied directly to wet skin. The lather created by this shower gel is light and refreshing. It doesn't come across as being rich and luxurious but it is gentle against my sensitive skin. The main scent in the shower is the cinnamon and it won't appeal to all. I have used other cinnamon based shower gels before and wouldn't say that this is my favourite. It is a little overpowering and whilst I can detect a gorgeously sweet undertone from the orange, it isn't strong enough to balance our the heavy cinnamon. With that being said, the scent is beautifully warming, relaxing and yet quite zingy at the same time. I couldn't use it all the time though.
The lather rinses well leaving no residue. When my skin has been dried, it feels very clean and fresh. Whilst this shower gel doesn't dry out my already dry skin further, I wouldn't say it is highly moisturising. The surface of my skin feels slightly soft for a short while and a pleasant spicy sweet scent is evident but it doesn't do much to moisturise my dry skin. To enhance the scent and soften my skin further, I normally apply a layer of Sanctuary Spa body lotion over the top as it has a similar, warm and spicy aroma. Both products compliment each other perfectly in my opinion.
This isn't my favourite shower gel in the Original Source range but it is pleasant to use for a change. The initial sniff of the bottle is a little misleading as the orange scent doesn't push through the cinnamon as much as it could when it is applied to my skin. I would say that this is a gender neutral scent as it isn't too feminine nor is it masculine smelling. As far as cleansing properities go, my skin is left very clean which is exactly what I want from a shower gel. I will buy this again when on offer as it is nice but it wouldn't be my first choice despite my love for an orange and cinnamon scent. It does represent good value for money as one bottle will last quite a while.
Thanks for reading :)
I love having lots of different shower gels in my shower and like to have different flavours when I finish another one. One of my favourite brands is Original Source as they always have really fresh ingredients inside, lots of interesting combinations and smells and are good quality products in my opinion. Original source shower gels are also on half price at the moment in Boots so a 250ml bottle only costs £1.15 instead of the usual £2.30. I make it a mission of mine to try and never buy anything that is full price so whenever I see shower gel on offer I always stock up as its something I know we will always use.
This shower gel is from their winter seasonal section and is described as a shower gel which is packed with an Orange and Cinnamon natural fragrance and will leave your skin feeling clean and really soft. Original Source say, "Using 100% natural fragrance, this exotic Original Source Winter Seasonal Edition Orange and Cinnamon shower gel will help you enjoy a long, hot shower before cosying up in front of the fire."
I love cinnamon as a food ingredient and also as a smell and I think this shower gel has captured it perfectly. You get the lovely fruity orange flavour at first smell but then it's quickly followed up by the warm sweet sensation of cinnamon. I find this shower gel lathers up really well, especially if I use a shower puff and the scent really smells up the bathroom after I have been there and it nicely stays on my skin for quite a while afterwards.
This shower gel has been perfect for these cold, snowy winter mornings as the spiciness really picks me up. I look forward to showering with this gel and am planning on picking up some more on my next trip to Boots!
WHAT IS IT?
A bottle of shower gel by Original Source. I think it was for Christmas 2012 because my bottle says that it is limited edition and there are 2 snowflakes on the front.
I did not smell this in the shop before I bought it because I like Christmas orange fragrances but I wish I had because it is not very pleasing and I do not like the smell at all. The orange is not nice and it is very weak, it does not smell like fresh oranges like I thought it would because Original Source shower gels are usually very natural smelling. I cannot smell cinnamon only a faint spicy smell that spoils the orange.
WHAT I THINK
I like that this shower gel is very cleansing and think that I get the right amount of bubbles from it when I am having a shower. It makes me feel very clean and I have used it instead of hand wash today because we have run out and I didn't remember to buy any when I went shopping. When I had paint on my hands it removed it all even though I had been busy and the paint had dried on my skin.
The shower gel makes my skin feel a little bit dry when I get out of the shower but if I use body moisturiser after it is not a problem. It is not moisturising and I think that if you suffer with dry skin you should not use this because it would make it worse.
I don't like how the smell sticks to my skin because I think this has got quite a dirty smell when I have finished showering and sometimes the smell makes me feel sick. This is worst when I use it for hand wash because on my hands the smell doesn't ever seem to go away. Last time I used it in the shower my husband asked me why I had on such a horrible perfume.
This Orange And Cinnamon shower gel usually costs about £1.80 but I got mine in a chemist near where I live for 75p and I think that would be very good value for Original Source if it smelled better.
3 Dooyoo Stars.
My daughter bought me this shower gel for Christmas as she thought I would like it. I do like zesty, fruity things and I do also like Cinnamon so I can see why she chose it but it just isn't for me.
The bottle looks quite impressive with it's triangular format and it is the kind of bottle I do like as it looks nice in my bathroom. It is see through so the bright orange shower gel inside can be seen and this looks nice.
What I really dislike about this is how thick the gel is. It's a bit like congealed jelly. It is hard to squirt out of the opening and it doesn't melt down when you apply it, instead it remains really thick and clumpy so the texture of it isn't very nice, certainly not luxurious in any form. The smell is quite nice but a little too sweet and false in my opinion, unlike other brands. I found it hard to actually wash with as it was heavy and clumpy it didn't lather up well and I found this disappointing.
It did leave my skin feeling quite fresh though and the smell was alright but nothing special.
I have since given this shower gel away to a friend who apparently likes it! I don't think it's for me, it's too dense and not in a nice, body butter type way. The smell isn't anything special. I won't be buying this in the future and don't recommend it.
I quite like most of the Original Source shower and bath products I've used, but my favourite is perhaps the lovely orange and cinnamon variety they do. I first used this about six months ago and I've continued to use it regularly though I have to admit I'm finding it harder to find lately and wondering perhaps if it was some sort of 'limited edition' that is finally running out of stock. I adore shower and bath products that smell spicy and this one is definitely a firm favourite of mine for that very reason.
The bottle shape is distinctive enough and shaped like a long triangle. It stands on its head so that the content run freely to the bath, allowing you to be able to dispense the contents easily. The bottle is plastic but has some flexibility, allowing me to gently squeeze a small amount out onto my hand.
The bottle size ifs a standard 250ml and is transparent so that you can clearly see the lovely bright orange shower gel inside. Last time I bought a bottle of this it cost me £2.30, but there was an offer of two for one, so effectively, I got them both half price.
The reason I like this shower gel so much is the smell, first and foremost. It is so strong and spicy with the gentle aroma of fresh sharp oranges and aromatic cinnamon. It's a refreshing smell and reminds me of Christmas, though obviously it's suitable to be used year round, and not just for the festive season!
Dispensing the contents is easy by means of the tightly fitting flip top lid. The shower gel itself is medium thick in consistency and lathers like a dream when applied to the skin. For the best lathering results I always use my shower puff as this helps to create so much more foam and makes the product go further than it would I I'd just used hands and fingers to massage it into my skin.
It feels extremely rich and luxurious as I rub it into my skin and the smell of the cinnamon and orange is really intensified by the heat of the hot running water. I've also used this shower gel in the bath but I actually prefer to use it under a hot shower. My husband also loves this particular shower gel and I tend to think of it as a fairly unisex smell as it's quite strong. It's certainly not a girly floral aroma.
It makes my skin feel lovely and soft and clean and fresh after I've rinsed. The lather rinses away perfectly and the smell lingers on my skin for ages after I have been towel dried. I'd love to be able to get this in a body lotion too, but sadly they don't do it!
I'm making the most of what I have left in my second from last bottle at the moment as I know these are definitely becoming harder to find. I have nothing negative at all I could say about this product. I love everything about it - including the price, and I highly recommend it.

Original Source are a UK brand which specialise in products such as shower gels, scrubs, hand wash, hair shampoo, hair conditioners and bath products. They are a creative brand and often come up with unique scented products which contain unusual ingredients such as chocolate, honey, walnut, pineapple, white clay, lime, chilli, almond and ginger.
Whilst shopping in Sainsburys a month or two ago I picked up a bottle of Orange and Cinnamon Shower Gel. I wasn't too keen on the idea (I love orange and cinnamon in food, but not really in my showers!) but my partner wanted to give it a try, so in to the basket it went. Original Source is sold in most of the main supermarkets and I've noticed that their shower gels are often on offer (usually for £1.00, instead of the usual price of around £1.80).
Original Source do 'Seasonal Editions' shower gels, which means certain shower gels are only available at certain times of the year and the scents generally reflect the different seasons. The Orange and Cinnamon is an Autumn/Winter shower gel so will only be on the shelves during this time. I think that the Orange and Cinnamon scent is an appropriate choice for this particular season.
The shower gel comes in a transparent plastic (recyclable) bottle, just the right size for me to fit my hand around and is fine for use in the shower. The lid is at the bottom which is handy as it means you don't have to mess around shaking the bottle to try and get the gel out (especially as you get towards the end). The gel itself is a bright orange colour and has quite a thick gloopy consistency.
The smell of the shower gel is apparent as soon as you squirt some out. It's very strong smelling and not quite as I expected. There are citrus undertones but the orange is far too overpowered by the cinnamon scent. Infact I think the cinnamon scent actually smells more similar to ginger. It's not HORRIBLE but it's certainly not my favourite Original Source scent, there are much nicer ones out there. However my partner loves the smell, so maybe it would be more appealing to men (it does smell quite manly actually).
I use a shower puff whilst in the shower and find that just a small squirt of shower gel is generally enough to get the job done (a little goes a long way). The scent is very strong whilst in the shower and I find that it stays on my skin for up to a few hours after I've showered (this would usually be a good thing, but as I'm not too keen on the scent I don't really care too much!). The shower gel lathers up very well and combined with the strong smell (even if it's not my favourite) I find that it makes me feel very clean, refreshed and invigorated during/after my shower. For this reason I think it the shower gel is most suitable for a 'wake me up' morning shower, rather than a 'winding down' night time shower.
Something which I really like about Original Source is they have good ethics. None of their products are tested on animals and all of their products are suitable for vegans. They also use natural ingredients to create their fragrances. The Orange and Cinnamon Shower Gel contains real orange and cinnamon extracts. However this isn't to say that the rest of the ingredients are as natural - there is a lengthy list of ingredients which I can barely pronounce, never mind know what they are! So 'packed with natural stuff' (as quoted on the bottle) isn't ENTIRELY true...
Overall the Original Source Orange and Cinnamon shower gel is cleansing, refreshing, lathers well, contains natural ingredients and isn't tested on animals. However it's not a scent that I'm likely to want to try again.
My husband bought this Original Source shower gel. Although I have generally had good experiences with Original Source products, I don't know if I would have picked this product myself. Whilst I like anything smelling of orange (or any other citrus fragrance for that matter), I'm not overly keen on cinnamon and tend to avoid spicy scents.
The shower gel comes in an almost triangular bottle which immediately stands out as being the Original Source brand. I think the packaging of this (and the other products in the Original Source range) looks quite masculine, but it's functional enough, with the flip top lid being easy to open and the plastic of the bottle not too rigid to be squeezed.
This product is Vegan friendly, made in the UK and comes in a recyclable bottle. I believe it is a limited edition seasonal product, so will not be around forever.
The gel itself is an extremely bright orange colour and although I would not describe it as being runny, I find that it is best to apply a little of the gel at a time as it does seem to slip through my fingers more than other gels.
I find that when I first apply the gel to my skin I am hit with a quite strong cinnamon fragrance. As I mentioned, I'm not the biggest fan of cinnamon - I think it is fine in a biscuit or maybe a candle, but I'm not too keen on it in my beauty products. I do find that when you actually start massaging this into the skin, the orange fragrance seems to come out much more and is more prominent and I must confess that I do think it goes well with the cinnamon.
The shower gel lathers reasonably well and rinses away easily too. I have dry skin which is especially bad this time of year and whilst I haven't noticed this to be moisturising, I don't think it has further dried out my skin either. After use, my skin feels clean, but I don't notice any softening properties or any other special things that it does for my skin. Given that the scent is quite strong when in use, I would have expected it to linger on my skin after use, but it doesn't. My husband uses this product too and I can never smell it on him, which I can with other brands as that's how I know he steals my Lush products!
I know that we paid £1 for a 250ml bottle of this in Boots when on special offer. The normal price is £2.30 which I feel is a little bit expensive for what it is. Having used it, I think £1 is the maximum I would be willing to pay for this.
Overall, I don't think I would recommend this product. It's not the worst shower gel I've used and it does have some good points, like the good lather and the fact it is vegan friendly. On the other hand, I don't think the scent is one of the best and doesn't compare to some of the Original Source scents available and I also don't think it does much for my skin. If you like cinnamon you may be keener on the product than I was, but personally I will not re-purchase and I won't be sad when this is discontinued.
===Sugar and Spice===
I was a very sweaty child. There was a time when I would have three showers a day just to feel clean. As I grew up I realised that the shower was possibly my favourite place in the known universe. I could relax in a private, warm surrounding and even get the added joy of smelling some gorgeous shower gels and shampoos rather than my armpits. Getting a job knocked my three showers a day on the head as I do quite like to be able to get time to sleep occasionally. I still shower as often as I realistically can for as long as I can. This means that I still look out for epic smelling shampoos and gels.
===You're an Original Baby===
Since I love a good smelly shower gel, I fell in love with Original Source as mostly all the stuff I've had from them has a very strong smell. Similar to lush, its always nice smells like lemon and lime or strawberry cheesecake so I always want to eat the gel. Probably not a good idea though. Original source have a couple of promises that they make like never testing on animals. In fact they promise to always make sure they test their products on themselves. They also try their best to source their ingredients from within the UK so as to be kinder to nature.
Original source are a member of the Aromatherapy Trade Council and they also make sure that their products are Vegan friendly which means basically that it's always going to smell amazing and no animal by-products will be used to make their products. Overall the company sounds like a total hippie, but one of the nice ones that washes and doesn't make you wear flowers if you don't want to.
They have a fantastic little web-site (www.originalsource.co.uk) which will give you a run down of their products and ingredients and a little about the company. It doesn't really tell you much about where the company came from but the rest more than makes up for it. I especially like that each ingredient comes with an interesting fact which actually ARE interesting! Kudos to you original source! Unfortunately because this is a seasonal shower gel, they don't seem to have a page for it. Boo to you original source!
As well as being sweaty, I am cheap. Poor Allan got such a great deal when he picked me up! Due to the fact I am cheap, I tend not to be willing to get Original Source shower gels as the big bottles tend to be around £2.50 to £3 each depending on where you shop. They are, however, on offers occasionally and when they are I stock up. Recently Asda had nearly the whole range for £1 for a big bottle (250ml). I got six bottles. If they are on offer they are worth it. Sadly when they aren't on offer, they aren't worth it. Each bottle lasts just under 2 weeks with me and Allan using it, both having at least one shower a day. It might last longer if Allan used a shower puff (brilliant little scrubby things that lather the soap better than just rubbing it on) with it but he doesn't.
As most of the different types are made from fruits, I can't get my head around calling them smells. They are definitely flavours. The bottle we are currently on is Cinnamon and Orange which is a new seasonal one that they have just brought out. The interesting fact about oranges is that an orange tree will more than likely outlive you and grow fruit the whole time, with the oldest fruit bearing orange tree being more than 400 years old
The gel is a bright orange colour. Like all of the other original source products I've tried it is quite a thick gel but it spreads well and is lovely and smooth when it comes out. The cinnamon isn't overpoweringly strong but is definitely present and brings a gorgeous warmth to the scent of oranges. The whole bathroom smells lovely both when we are using this and for a few minutes after showering though it doesn't really leave a powerful scent behind on your skin. I would say that I don't feel as fresh and clean when I'm using this one as the scent is quite a warm, round one rather than a sharp, clean one. It's still a lovely smell though. I wouldn't say it's a girly scent either. It's quite gender neutral actually! That should help if your partner has strange smell related gender insecurities and you want to have this in your shower.
True to it's seasonal nature (I started seeing it in october) the scent is very autumnal, reminding me of spending Halloween and thanksgiving with my friend in America with the warmer smells of cinnamon and orange everywhere rather than the sweeter spicier cinnamon smells that Christmas brings with it.
One thing I would say is that by the time we got to the end of this bottle I was getting a little bit bored of the smell. Unlike other products from original source, this is one that starts to just not smell that nice after using it every day and I don't quite know why.
===Getting in a lather===
Something I always look for is a good bottle. If you don't have a well designed bottle, you'll waste shower gel, find it tricky to get the dregs out or have the bottle falling everywhere in the shower when you are trying to use it. The bottle for original source products is a great design. It's made so that it stands with the cap at the bottom meaning that your shower gel will naturally run towards the cap. No having to precariously balance a bottle upside down for a day to get the dregs out. It's a very well balanced bottle too. The cap is flat, the bottle is almost triangular but with a bit more of a square shape to it (you really need to see it to get what I mean) but it wall means that it doesn't easily fall off of shelves or slide around. Its angular/ flat edges make it easier to grip onto it even if you have soapy hands. The bottle also has a bit of a rougher texture on it along the sides. All of this helps in getting the most out of the gel, but does it lather well?
Given that I use a shower puff, mostly anything I use will lather. The Cinnamon and Orange original source is no different; using a similar amount to other products (about a tablespoon) on the puff it will lather enough to cover your whole body. I have noticed when Allan uses it (applying it straight to the skin) it doesn't really lather much at all.
As an aside I have to note that I have accidentally gotten this stuff in my mouth when washing and it really does NOT taste very nice at all. I won't be using this as a sauce on anything then. Oh well!
===Does it tackle my pits? ===
Let's not be shy. Shower gel is primarily to get your body clean. It's not really any use if it doesn't. Most Original Source products leave me feeling fresh and smelling clean (which is why I love them). The Cinnamon and Orange gel, however, isn't quite up to scratch. Keep in mind that I have to boil wash most of my t shirts to get them smelling clean though. I know I have a very strong odour especially if I've been eating anything remotely smelly. Did I mention I love garlic? This shower gel feels more like it masks over my natural odour from my pits rather than getting rid of it. I think this is due to my smells not mixing well with spicy and warm fragrances though. It gets Allan smelling fresh as a daisy. I'd have to knock a star off for this. Strangely it's just my pits that are left with a bit of an odour after using this one. All my other smelly body parts are fragrant in a nice way after using this. It's just unfortunate that the parts that aren't smelling great are closer to my nose.
===What's in it? ===
Original source state that their products are packed with natural scent. Does that mean that the rest of what they put in their products is natural too? If you are anything like me you won't have a clue what some of the ingredients are. So I've just sat and Googled it all! Here's a list of what's in it and what I found out about it. Feel free to skip if you don't care!
Aqua (Water), sodium laureth sulphate (a detergent), sodium chloride (salt), Cocamidopropyl Betaine (a derivative of coconut oil), Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Bark Extract (An extract from the bark of the Cinnamon tree), Citrus aurantium amara peel extract (Seville orange peel extract), Polyquaternium-7 (seems fairly scientific, but there doesn't seem to be anything un-nerving about it), Parfum (Perfume!), Lactic acid (Milk acid which is used to make things water soluable), Sodium benzoate (A food preservative, presumably to keep the ingredients fresh), Tetrasodium glutamate diacetate (used to boost the preservatives and also helps stop discolouration of the products), Styrene / acrylates copolymer (stops things being absorbed into the skin, a film former which seems a bit odd in a shower gel but ok!), Benzotriazolyl dodecyl p-cresol (another colour preserving chemical), Limonene (the first vaugly worrying one, which is basically has a very strong smell of oranges but has also been used as a botanical pesticide and found to have caused renal cancer in rats. No evidence of anything bad in humans unless you are dealing constantly with the pure chemical. Hmm), Citral (an antimicbrobial and a strong citrus scent used in perfumes and foods), Linalool (a plant extract, this time with a spicy note, which a few people have found to aggravate eczema, but only a small amount) Eugenol (an antiseptic and anaesthetic used in perfumes and foods which can cause quite a few worrying side effects if you overdose. Hopefully that wont happen with this), CI 15510 (also known as acid orange-7 is a colouring agent which doesn't mix well with your eyes).
There are a couple of tongue twisting chemicals in there. It's not ENTIRELY natural. Some of them are even a touch worrying. However from what I've read I believe that any of the worrying ones aren't in a concentration that would harm the majority of people past a rare and slight skin irritation.
If you really want to tell them how much you love or hate the product then you might want their contact details. Here they are:

They also love letters so feel free to give them a contact in the post!

This shower Gel does smell nice. Obviously that's a personal preference though and others might not enjoy it. Personally I do prefer the stronger, cleaner scents of some of Original Sources other products. The scent doesn't linger for very long after my shower which I feel is a good thing as I wouldn't want it intruding on my other products like my aftershave etc and the product is quite gender neutral so can effectively be used by all the family if you want. The smell does start to grate on me if I use it regularly for some reason so I tend to keep a different scent in the shower next to it. My partner, however, loves it all the time. As for cleaning power it doesn't quite tackle my worst areas as well as I would like. For this I have to take a star off. Price wise when it's on offer it is brilliant value for money for such a good quality product. Give it a bash and see what you think!
