Amazing Grace is a fragrance collection from beauty brand Philosophy. This collection includes a perfume, body emulsion, body scrub and a shower gel. I will be reviewing the shower gel which has the full title of 'Amazing Grace Perfumed Shampoo, Bath and Shower Gel'.
This shower gel is an award winning shower gel infused with Philosophy's best selling fragrance 'Amazing Grace'. This shower gel has a milk based formula and is enriched with milk proteins which claim to moisturise and condition your skin.
In true Philosophy style, this shower gel is presented in a simple, clear plastic bottle which is of a chunky nature. A 'poem' is written on the front and the back of the bottle offers the essential product information. The bottle is complete with a flip top cap.
~Price and Availability~
A 480ml bottle is available from www.philosophyskincare.co.uk priced at £19.00. A smaller bottle can be bought as part of various gift sets.
I am a big fan of Philosophy products. I received a gift set containing lots of miniatures earlier this year. Whilst Amazing Grace wouldn't have been my first choice of Philosophy shower gel (they do Vanilla, Cinnamon etc), it is one that I have enjoyed using. It is expensive and not an everyday sort of shower gel in my opinion but I like shower treats for my evening showers and this fits my requirements.
This shower gel is lovely to use. The consistency is fantastic due to the milk proteins - quite thick and beautifully soft and creamy. The shower gel has a pale pink tint to it which enhances the girly appearance of the overall product. I use a body puff to get the most from my shower gels and only need the tiniest of drops of this pearly pink gel to fully cleanse my skin.
This shower gel lathers up beautifully and a soft and creamy lather is formed with very little effort on my part - quite luxurious. The lather feels gentle yet cleansing and despite being perfumed, I have experienced no irritation from this product. The scent of this shower gel is pleasant and not overpowering. Amazing Grace has a light, fresh and floral scent and this is upheld in the shower gel. The overall scent reminds me of a sweet rose and is quite clean and fresh smelling.
The lather rinses effortlessly from my skin and leaves no residue. Once dried off, my skin feels clean, refreshed and quite soft to the touch. I would say this shower gel does moisturise more than cheaper alternatives and I do not feel the need to slather on a lot of body butter after my shower. A sweet floral scent lingers on my skin for a short while after I dry off and I could imagine the matching products in this collection would enhance and prolong the Amazing Grace scent even further.
I mainly use this product as a shower gel but have used it as a bath gel and find it produces some gorgeous bubbles which last well. I do not favour using shower gels on my hair as my hair is thick and dry but this shower gel did perform well at cleansing my hair and scalp. My hair didn't feel as dried out but I still needed a conditioner so feel this shower gel is wasted on my hair!
I do like this shower gel but I wouldn't buy a full size bottle as the Amazing Grace floral scent is not my favourite from this brand. A little bit of this shower gel goes a long way and one bottle is long lasting. This would make a lovely gift and is lovely to use so I can recommend it to all.
Thanks for reading :)
My mum is an avid QVC shopper and many of my products come from there in the way of gifts as I do get rather spoiled by her.
She also is rather impulsive and buys things and then never uses them and she will pop over with a bag of goodies after having a clear out and voila! My beauty cupboard is re stocked and that's how I came to have the "Amazing Grace, shampoo, bath and shower gel"
As it's a multi purpose product I will split the review into each of the categories.
I have reviewed Philosophy products before so I will just give a brief description of the company and if you would like a fuller read just have a look at my other reviews (How's that for a cheeky extra read!)
The Philosophy brand -
The Philosophy brand was founded in 1996 by Cristina Carlino a skin care entrepreneur with over 30 years in the industry and her "philosophy" was that the best cosmetic was beautiful looking skin and she wanted to create a range than enhanced a woman femininity and that caring should oneself should always include the inside and the outside and created a range that both stimulated and improved your inner self.
The Packaging -
As I mentioned above the packaging is very minimalist and the the bottle is a clear and heavy plastic and with the tall black lid that has a flip top lid to dispense the product.
The small lower case writing on the bottle says -
"Life is a classroom. We are both student and teacher. Each day is a test and each day we receive a passing or a failing grade in one particular subject: Grace. Grace is compassion, gratitude, surrender, faith, forgiveness, good manners, reverence and the list goes on. Its something that money cant buy and credentials rarely produce. Being the smartest, the prettiest, the most talented, the richest or even the poorest, can't help. Being a humble person can and being a helpful person can guide you through your days with grace and gratitude."
The one downside with the packaging is that its quite a strong plastic bottle and while that makes it sturdy it also makes it hard to dispense the product as you need to squeeze the bottle, so my tip would be to hold the bottle so that gravity does the work and while the texture of the product is thick due to the creamy nature it will flow out.
The Scent -
I am going to describe the scent of the product here so that I am not repeating myself later on.
If you are familiar with the Amazing Grace perfume then my job is done as its exactly same scent in both depth and quality. If however you are not familiar with it the scent is floral based and is quite sweet and the only way that I can describe it is to say that is an incredibly clean scent and screams femininity, it also has a really warm feeling to the scent.
I also have the perfume and its not that often that the bath version of perfume is exactly the same but in this case it definitely is.
I do usually use a shampoo for colour treated hair as my hairs is coloured and quite dry in texture so I was a little unsure about using this product as a shampoo but thought that it would be great if it works as I have so little time to get ready and if it means just bottle in the shower at home and at the gym it would be brilliant.
The product contains a derivative of pro vitamin b5 for enhanced hair strength and moisture, it also contains silk proteins to soften skin and hair.
My hair is quite long and very thick and I only needed to use about the size of a 50p piece and this emulsified really well into my hair, the scent was lovely and full and really seemed to intensify as I massaged the product into my hair.
The product felt really creamy and was really easy to rub in and give my hair a good clean.
Rinsing the product out was really easy and due to how much it had lathered up I was able just to let the water pull all the shampoo out without much effort from me and I do like my hair to be slightly squeaky when washed so that I know all the shampoo is out.
After rinsing I just used my normal conditioner and while I do usually use a shampoo and conditioner from the same range I found that I still got the same great results. My hair felt really clean and soft and the scent was wonderful and lasted until my next wash.
Shower Gel -
I have to say that I am more of a bath person as it allows me the peace and quiet to indulge my love of a good book. Unfortunately I don't often have time for a bath so a shower must suffice.
I used the product in the way that I would use soap and with only using a small amount I was able to lather up a treat! And again the scent filled the bathroom. The product felt really creamy on my skin and the product itself has an almost velvet texture to it.
When I got out of the shower and dried off my skin did feel really smooth and while I do have quite sensitive skin this did not irritate or upset my skin at all.
My skin stayed feeling smooth and moisturised for the rest of the day although the scent vanished quite quickly.
Bath Gel -
For me this is where the product really comes in to its own. I poured about half a capful into my warm running water and the scent really does fill the room straight away and at first it really is quite strong but after a while settles to a more subtle scent.
The amount of bubbles created from just half a capful was quite impressive and I soon had a bath full of lovely fragrant small bubbles that was rather delightful to step into. When I got in the bath I did my usually thing of rubbing the bubbles all over me as I love to be covered and the bubbles do have a lovely soft feeling when they are on the skin.
I used the bubbles in the bath just to give myself a little freshen up and again just as I experienced using it as a shower gel it was soft and luxurious on the skin and had a moisturising quality and the bubbles lasted my whole bath!
In Conclusion -
This is one product that will always remain in my bathroom. Its very like me, a great all rounder and fabulous at multi tasking!
I do tend to use this more as a bath and shower gel and only use it as a shampoo at the gym and that's only down to sticking to the shampoo and conditioner that I always use.
It's a lovely way to achieve soft and smooth skin and the lingering scent is wonderful, as soon as the product hit's the bath water and scent is released I relax straight away and the best way to sum it up for me is to say that It's a warm comforting cuddle in a bottle! And who doesn't like a cuddle?
As you only need to use a small amount for your hair, bath or shower it really does last quite a while and
When you add up the cost of a bath, shower gel and a shampoo its really not a bad price.
Cost And Availability -
Philosophy can be purchased at department stores including John Lewis and is also available via QVC. Its available on Amazon and many other online stores.
The approx cost is around £15.00
I am a very big fan of philosophy products and like to buy as much as I can from their range of skincare, make up and toiletries. Hvaing said that, there aren't that many shops that do sell it and it can be difficult to buy some of their products, so you really need to shop online.
I have tried quite a few of philosophies shower gels now and was quite impressed by the overall quality for the price you pay. When I saw their shampoo, bath and shower gel, I was sceptical to say the least. My hair tends to be quite fine and gest greasy quickly. Because of this I have to select my hair care products carefully. However, with this product their wasn't a problem, if it didnt work with my hair, I could use it as a shower gel or in the bath.
The smell is lovely and very fragrant, yet not overpowering like some fragranced body products can be. It is very pleasant and has a clean, perfumed smell, it is not heavy at all.
The first way I tried it was on my hair. Sadly, it didn't really do much for my hair. There wasn't much shine on the hair and it looked quite heavy and weighed down. Like I said I do have quite fine hair, so it may be ok for some people to use as a shampoo. As it didnt do much for my hair I decided to use it in the bath and shower.
In the bath I used roughly a capful and it really lathered up well and gave lovely, long-lasting bubbles. It left my skin beautifully soft and I didn't even need a moisturiser after!
As a shower gel it also worked well and lathered up a lot. If you use it on a sponge you really only need a very small amount and it does go a very long way. It left my skin feeling so soft and even my sensitive skin didnt have any problems with this product. The best part is that the smell stays on your skin for most of the day, so you dont even need to use a fragrance unless you want to!
Philosophy is a brand that I have always wanted to try. It was founded in 1996 by Cristina Carlino, an expert in the health and beauty industry whose innovative products have a price tag to match.
Amazing Grace Shower Gel is a moisturizing body and hair product. It is formulated with milk proteins, which nourishes and conditions, which makes it perfect for sensitive skin. Its formula contains silk proteins which soften and Vitamin B5 for improving moisture and the strength of hair folicules.
Amazing Grace comes in a transparent plastic bottle, so you can see how much of the product you have remaining, with the name on the front and a little anecdote. They have a black flip up top, which makes it easy to use in the shower. When you first begin to use it, it has a small silver cover that needs to be removed, this keeps the product fresh and lengthens its shelf life. It is a viscose baby pink gel but it comes out the bottle quite easily and lathers really well, so you don't need a lot and is quite feminine.
I have been using this for the last month as I received it as a Christmas present and I really enjoy using it. I like the fact that it takes up less shelf space in my bathroom as I only need one bottle instead of shampoo and a shower gel bottle. When using it on my hair, it leaves it soft and slightly perfumed but healthy looking. I still use my regular conditioner afterwards as my hair tangles quite easily.
On my skin, it leaves it feeling really nourished and well moisturized, I find that I don't need to use a moisturizer after my shower, my skin is really soft and the gentle, fresh smell lingers on my skin throughout the day and in the bathroom.
It is expensive at £18.00 for nearly 500ml but you only need a small amout as it lathers up well, so I can see a bottle lasting for quite a few months with daily usage. I think it is a luxury product but very indulgent.
The Amazing Grace fragrance from Philosophy is one I really love and this product does smell beautiful. It is a pleasure to use in the shower and fills the bathroom with the aroma and it leaves a delicate scent on your skin. It has a very clean smell like fresh cotton but slightly floral - different to most shower products that smell of synthetic fruit!
I am always a bit dubious of 2-in-1 products, especially with shampoo and shower gel but this is a really great shampoo. It gives a nice thick foamy lather and leaves hair squeaky clean, although the only thing I did find was that the scent did not last in the hair too well. After drying, the smell had pretty much gone. Using the Amazing Grace conditioner does improve this though and the conditioner compliments it very well.
This is a great product for having in a gym bag or taking on holiday too as it cuts down the amount you need to carry around. But you will want to use it every time you shower once you try it!!
This shower gel is from Philosophy as part of their Amazing Grace range. The scent is just the same as all of the other products so it's gorgeous. I don't really know how to describe the scent, but it's just the perfect light, fresh, girly fragrance in my opinion! The shower gel itself is very good as it's thick and very moisturising! It foams up nicely, but you can also use it as a shower gel or bubble bath! I didn't try it out, but you can also use it as a shampoo apparently so it's a real multi-purpose product, essential if you like the Amazing Grace scent! It's not cheap, but the bottle is quite big so you get a fair amount of usage from it. Overall, I love this shower gel and use it all the time! There are lots of other products in the Amazing Grace range so check them out too!

Amazing Grace Shower Gel is uniquely feminine and moisturizing shower gel. It is formulated with nourishing milk proteins and it calms even the most sensitive skin and nourishes the driest hair.
Milk based for long lasting conditioning,
Contains pro vitamin B5 for enhanced strength and moisture,
Contains silk proteins to soften skin and hair.
Philosophy bottles are all clear plastic bottle with the name of the product on the front with a little poem, they have black flip up lids for ease of use in the shower.
They all come sealed with a little foil cover that you remove before use, do this when you want to use it, if you get things to stock pile this way the shelf life will last longer for you.
Amazing Grace is a light pink colour gel which is of a thick consistency that easily runs out of the bottle and lathers up really well.
I have been using this for a few months now, I love that I can wash my hair with it and get the same results as with my normal shampoo, also I find it good if I go away as I only need one bottle for my shampoo and shower gel.
After using this on my Hair it is left silky soft with body and with No flyway's. I needed to use a conditioner after it as my hair can be dry at times and get knotty.
On my skin the Amazing Grace leaves my skin feeling moisturised and soft with out feeling dry or tight and after showering the whole bathroom smells lovely, it is a very pure, fresh, feminine smell like clothes just tumble dried.
You only need to use a small amount as a little goes along way and my bottle of 250ml easily lasted 3 months using it most day's along with my other shampoo's and shower gels.
A 473ml bottle costs around £18.00 or you can find smaller bottles in various sets on the internet. www.hqhair.com sells these products.
