Advantages: Lathers nicely
Disadvantages: None for me or Mark
Generally me and my husband tend to use different shower gels, we are currently working our way through the various toiletries we got for Christmas. Recently I ran out of my current shower gel but had got in my nice hot bath before I realised, not wanting to get back out and get cold I had a quick look at what my husband was currently using, he had a bottle of Radox Lemon and Tea Tree Shower Gel and Shampoo on the side, ok the bottle said that this product was for men but after having a quick sniff and deciding it didn't smell too manly I decided to use it, after all it was already there and it meant I didn't have to get out of the bath and into the cold to get my own bottle of shower gel.
Packaging
The Radox Lemon and Tea Tree Shower Gel and Shampoo comes in a clear curved plastic bottle which allows you to see the brightly coloured shower gel inside, it has a black flip lid which also doubles up as the base, this simply flips open and clicks shut again, the bottle also has a black plastic fold down hook on the top which allows you to hang the bottle up whilst you are in the shower. The bottle has a black label on the front of it, the Radox logo appears at the top which consists of a green oval with the word Radox written inside it, just beneath this is the word "Men" in large grey letters. The rest of the label is taken up with the name of the product " Invigorating Shower Gel and Shampoo Lemon and Tea Tree", the fragrance of the shower gel is written in yellow with the rest of the writing being in white, there is also a picture of a lemon at the bottom of the label, however this is transparent meaning that the shower gel itself colours it. The back of the bottle also has a label stuck to it, again this is black, it contains information about the product such as warnings and the ingredients. The words "Wake you Head, Energise your Body" also appear on the back of the bottle in bright yellow. I would definitely say that the appearance of this product is quite masculine.
The Shower Gel is a bright yellow colour so it really does stand out. Now obviously I had never used this product before with it being for men, although I have been known to borrow my husbands shower gels in the past when mine have run out, so I didn't really know what to expect from it. The shower gel is of a reasonably thick consistency, it actually seemed a little bit thicker than the shower gels that I use. For me one of the main things was the fragrance as although I knew it was designed for men I was hoping that it wasn't going to have too much of a manly smell to it. I squeezed a small amount out onto my shower puff and smelt it, I was pleasantly surprised you could really smell both the lemon fragrance as well as the Tea Tree, although I do think the Tea Tree was slightly more dominant, whilst I could tell it was a mans shower gel as the fragrance was quite strong and slightly harsher than what I would normally use it was not what I would call a real masculine fragrance, it wasn't like some men's shower gels you can buy which smell just like the body sprays and aftershave versions you can purchase. Personally I think it was the lemon fragrance that toned it down a little and made it less manly smelling. The shower gel lathered up nicely on my shower puff and you really didn't need a lot in order to get a decent amount of lather, after rinsing the shower gel from my skin I got out of the bath and dried, still a little concerned that I was going to smell like a man. Once I had dried I could still smell the Radox Shower Gel on my skin, however it was not strong at all, I could detect the scent of lemon and tea tree still but it was not strong at all, in fact I was pleased with how clean and fresh my skin both felt and smelt.
Price and Availability
This particular shower gel was one that my parents bought my husband in a basket of toiletries, now I'm not sure where they purchased it from and I think at the time it was on offer. However I have since found the 250ml bottle of shower gel being sold in Boots for £2.05. Personally I think this is a reasonable price for this product and so far the bottle seems to be lasting well, my husband has been using this same bottle for quite a while now and is only half way through it, and when I used it I found that I only needed a small amount to produce a decent lather to wash with so I would say you do get your moneys worth with this.
My Opinion
Well considering this was a mans shower gel and I only used it because I couldn't be bothered to get out of the bath and get my own I was quite impressed. In terms of cleaning my skin I was pleased with how clean and fresh it made my skin feel, I didn't actually use it as a shampoo and I cannot say that it particularly made me feel more energised as stated on the back of the bottle, however the fruity lemon and tea tree combination left my skin feeling really fresh. The shower gel lathered up well and I found that I only needed a small amount of it making it long lasting and economical. I would say that this product was reasonably priced especially as it seems to last so well. In my opinion the fragrance of this product is not overly manly, obviously I could clear tell that it was aimed at men and the fragrance was a bit stronger than what I would normally use however I could definitely get away with using this again in the future should I need to, after using it I didn't find that I smelt like a man at all, personally I could still detect the fragrance on my skin once I had dried but this was very subtle and once I had applied deodorant and perfume you could not smell the shower gel at all, however the fresh feeling continued. I have to say I would recommend this shower gel in an emergency, obviously with it being a mans shower gel its not one I would go out of my way to buy, however I would purchase it for my husband again and I would certainly use it if I had run out of my own shower gel in the future.
Summary: A nice shower gel mainly for men but alright for women in an emergency
