      A good-value, everyday treat

I'd never heard of the Active Naturals organic toiletries line from Sainsbury's before, but was given this product as part of a Christmas pressie. The packaging blurb promises 'a truly fresh experience' with this awakening shower gel, as well as soft, nourished skin. So does it fulfill its claims?

This Cranberry and Kiwi Shower Gel lives up to its ActiveNaturals moniker by featuring a photo of succulent-looking fruits against a pale-coloured background (as well as a helpful note reminding me it's not a food product - thanks!). The 200ml tube stands on its lid, which is flat and therefore easy to stand up in the shower. The hole is just the right diameter for squeezing out a good amount of product. My only gripe is that I like to be able to hang up my shower gel and this doesn't have a hook, but hey - you can't have everything.

The gel is thick, with the consistency of half-set jelly, which I find useful as it doesn't immediately run through my fingers and get washed down the drain. As it makes contact with my warm skin, a sweet, juicy fragrance (that's heavier on the cranberry than the kiwi) bursts forth and for a moment my senses are transfixed and I'm transported to a sun lounger on a sun-kissed Caribbean island, sipping a Sea Breeze... err, well perhaps I'm getting a little carried away, but it does smell darn nice without being too sickly or overpowering. I can now understand the warning on the tube, since it does almost smell good enough to eat!

The product is clear and pale pink in colour - again more reminiscent of the berries part than the kiwi. Though it's not creamy in the slightest, it lathers up well and I find it to be quite moisturising, which is a boon for my dry, sensitive skin. The gel even passes the ultimate test - I use it to shave my legs and am left with nicely silky limbs and no nasty nicks, irritation or red patches. As if all this weren't good enough, the gorgeous smell remains on my skin after I've dried off. I'll definitely be buying some more after I've run out - at just £1.94 for 200ml it's a bargain.
