I received a lovely Sanctuary gift set for Christmas which was packed full of lovely goodies. One of these lovely goodies was the Salt Scrub.
What does the product do?
The product has been designed to exfoliate the skin, removing all of the dead and dull skin cells to reveal the fresh and healthy ones underneath. It promises to leave the skin looking and feeling polished while also hydrating it deeply. The sea salt comes from the Dead Sea and it is mixed in with Coconut, Almond and Jojoba oils to leave the skin completely softened and smoothed. As well as all this, the product also claims to leave the skin smelling delicious.
How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied to damp skin. You need to scoop some from the pot and it is to be massaged into the skin. Then the product can be rinsed away and followed up with a good moisturiser.
Packaging and Price
I had a smaller than normal pot in my gift set. It comes in a plastic pot with a screw top lid and you can see the product inside. The full sized product comes in a glass jar with a metal clip which you lift in order to access the product. It will cost you around £11 for 650 grams of the product. It can be bought from large department stores such as Boots and also from a range of online websites.
Application and Performance
The product comes with the typical smell of the Sanctuary products. It is luxurious and invigorating and it has a lovely natural goodness about it. When you see the product is looks like it packed full of large salt crystals mixed in with some oils. It has a honey coloured tinge to it. Even though the crystals are large, they don't actually hurt at all as you massage then into the skin, not even when applying it to dry skin. You can control the amount that you exfoliate by the pressure which you apply to the skin. It feels like it's doing a really good job without hurting the skin or causing me any irritations.
If I get into the bath to rinse away the product, the salt dissolves away so you're not sitting on lots of gritty bits. The oils from the product do make the skin lovely and soft, giving it a healthy and hydrated appearance. It doesn't make my skin feel greasy and you still feel nice and clean when you get out of the bath. It doesn't make my skin feel tight and even though I do apply a moisturiser after use, it does leave my skin soft enough not too. The scent of the product lingers on the skin for quite a while after use.
All in all, this is a really luxurious product which leaves my skin soft, smooth and healthy looking. It is a high quality product which is easy to use and gives fast results. Once I've used all mine, I wouldn't hesitate to purpose the full sized product.
I have been a big fan of Sanctuary products for several years now, as I love the luxurious quality and distinctive fragrance of the products. This salt scrub is definitely up there with my favourite products from the Sanctuary and I've used it many times.
This is great - the scrub comes in a heavy, high-quality glass container that feels expensive and looks great in your bathroom. I always reuse the jar once I've finished the scrub - it's great for storing dried foods or other cosmetic products!
The scrub has a sweet but not sickly scent, which will be familiar to those who have used Sanctuary products before. It might seem like a very feminine product, but I think it's be suitable for men and women alike as Sanctuary products have a really lovely deep musk scent which suits both genders.
This scrub is extremely effective in exfoliating dry, tired skin. Although the salt has a fairly coarse texture, this is tempered by the luxuriously soft spa oil. It might not be suitable for those with fragrance allergies or very sensitive skin, but I have quite sensitive skin myself and have had no problems with it. In terms of endurance, the scrub leaves my skin really soft and smelling lovely, and this lasts for at least 24 hours afterwards.
My only criticism is I've found that there is quite a lot of oil left at the bottom of the jar after I've used the salt up. However, this isn't too much of a problem as if you have rock salt in the kitchen, you can add a bit of this to make the oil last longer. Or you can just use it as bath oil for a bonus treat!
Using the scrub really does feel like a spa treat, and it leaves your skin very soft and supple for at least 24 hours after using it. This would make a great Christmas present - a real winter treat for your skin!
I have used this scrub for the past 2 years,
Sanctuary have always tried to create products that leave you with a luxurious spa feel and this is no exception. It smells amazing and really does what it says on the tin!
Even the packaging looks lovely and makes a handy pot to put things in long after the product is all gone.
The pot lasts ages as you only need to use a small amount,
it smooths your skin and really wraps it in luxury. Perfect for exfoliating before tanning or as a weekly treat.
There is however a downside, I would not recommend this for people with sensitive or easily irritated skin
as it is full of natural oils such as jojoba and sweet almond oil which can be a little harsh.
On the whole if you are looking for a spa-like product without the spa prices this is amazing value for money and an enjoyable experience to use.
price & packaging
This product comes in an impressive looking 650g sealed jar with the simple, elegant Sanctuary logo on the front. It currently retails at £11.25 in Boots which is expensive, but well worth it as it is in a different league to other body scrubs- it recently won an award from Company magazine for UK best body scrub, so thousands of women can't be wrong!
scent & quality
The scent of the salt scrub is typical of other sanctuary products in this range; the product contains coconut, jojoba and almond oils which work together to soften the skin, whilst the sea salts buff and polish away at built up dead skin cells. After using it, you can truly notice a difference in your skin- my partner says this is the best thing to have worked on his feet. A little of this product goes a long way, as the sea salts and added oils are so effective in leaving skin soft, smooth and glowing.
After a long, cold winter this is the perfect product to make you feel fresh, smooth and rejuvenated again
Thanks for reading :o)
I love this scrub, it's as simple as that. I have very dry skin during the winter months, and end up spending a small fortune on various potions to try and keep it moisturised. This product is wonderful as it does the job of both a scrub AND a moisturiser. The salt in the product sloughs away dead skin, and the high oil content moisturises. You emerge from the shower feeling super smooth. The scrub is also great for preventing ingrowing hairs after shaving or waxing, with the added benefit of the salt acting as an antiseptic.
Like all Sanctuary products it has a delicious fragrance, and in my opinion is excellent value for money compared to other salt scrubs on the market. It has the added bonus of being easily available from Boots, and is often on a '3 for 2' offer - even better.
I thoroughly recommend this product - a real treat for just over a tenner.
Not the cheapest ...
I love Sanctuary products but to find they tend to be on the pricey side so I pick them up when on offer or if I am in need of a nice treat! I actually received this as part of a gift set at Christmas.
To buy this alone, a 650g jar costs £10.20 (plus 40 Advantage Card points if bought from Boots). So as I say, not the cheapest range around! However, the packaging of this product is really nice and does look a bit pricier than other products (as it should!). The salt scrub comes in a large, chunky glass jar and this makes it seem a bit special, and the simplicity of the packaging, which is quite plain with some simple lettering, makes the product appealing too. It is one of those products that is very nice to have on display in your bathroom!
The product contains coconut, jojoba and sweet almond oils and sea salts and promises to refine and resurface the texture of the skin, leaving it super smooth.
Degrees of separation
Opening the jar, there are two things I noticed immediately. One was that there was a thick layer of oil on top of the scrub itself, which suggested that the contents had separated slightly.
The second thing I noticed was the lovely smell! Anyone who is familiar with Sanctuary products will recognise this fragrance immediately - a musky, floral and quite exotic fragrance that I personally love. There is something very special and luxurious about the product which again I think helps to justify the price.
An awkward operation
Using this product in the shower was a bit tricky! As I mentioned, the oil had separated from the salt so underneath the thick layer of oil on the top of the jar, the salty scrubby bits were really thick. I had to kind of give the product a mix with my finger before I could get a nice blob out into my hand which wasn't either a big handful of oil or a hard lump of salt! As I have quite a small shower cubicle, this wasn't easy and it was a bit of an awkward operation!
Applying this to the skin I again noticed two things. One was that the product is really oily - not a surprise having seen the layer of oil at the top of the jar, but it immediately adds an oily sheen to the skin. The other was that this is a very rough, scratchy scrub indeed! I have no real problem with this as I like an exfoliator to really give me a good scrub, but this is definitely not one for sensitive skin! And even I found that on certain areas I had to be quite gentle. Although this definitely wouldn't suit everyone I don't think, I quite liked that fact that this felt that I was getting a very through scrub from this product and the oil added a certain luxuriousness to it too. And of course there's the lovely scent. The smell of the scrub is very strong and it definitely envelops you in the shower. And despite the oiliness of the product it does wash off nice and easily without leaving an oily residue -0 it simply leaves skin feeling really soft and smooth.
A special spa treat
Overall I like this product. It is lovely to use as it feels a bit special and certainly "scrubbier" than other scrubs I've used. The smell is also gorgeous and it does feel a bit more expensive than other products - which it is! However I would say that it is not for frequent use and it definitely isn't one for sensitive skin! I doubt I would use this more than once every week or two which means a tub will last me ages - this certainly helps justify the high price tag!
Excellent the sanctuary scrub i have been using it the last month or so now, due to me having dry skin and feeling uncomfortable with my skin, and also love the sanctuary products, (must try them) at first the texture was funny feeling, and thought to myself how does this work, but once using time after time i thought is it gonna be good product to use, after the first go, but time after time, while i was using everyday, i could see a change in my skin. my skin felt much smoother, softer and shiner and from this i could tell i was going to use it again and again. this is a really good product, to get the results you have try it and keep using on a regularly basis t get the best results. it has helped my skin loads and im felling more comfortable with my own skin, so sanctuary scrub is a must!
Due to my bad ingrowth situation on my thighs, I went on trying different scrubs that might help exfoliate hard skin. Among the favourites there was the sanctuary salt scrub. The sanctuary salt scrub smelt nice and left my skin feeling soft but it also left me with a burning / warm-to-the-touch sensation at the back of my hand for quite some time. Despite the smoothness it left my skin with, it was not a nice feeling to carry around. I do not suffer from any allergies or sensitivity problems in general but this was a bit uncomfortable for me to buy this product. I am not sure if it would have benefitted the ingrowth ( it already being painful ). However, while it may be nice for some, I would advise those with sensitive skin to be a bit cautious. Shame, as I do normally like sanctuary products :(
This body scrub is very soft and delicate on your skin, many people are put off at the thought of rubbing your skin with sand paper like products however this product is delicate on the skin. The jar is great as it is glass so can be re used and the product is very long lasting, you only have to use a little each time. Because it is gentle you can use it daily which i found good as some others i have used are to harsh to use on your skin daily or on your face. Great value for money and i swear by this product. it gives a great finish to the skin. the product smells lovely and is deffinatly worth a try. The only thing i can say negative about this product is that it makes a mess of the bath after it has been used and you will come across sand like bits in the bath however most body scrubs do.
I have been using a pot of Sanctuary Salt Scrub for the past few weeks, having not tried it before, but I have been fairly impressed so far. I have used other Sanctuary products in the past and generally my experience of them has been favourable. The scrub tub contains 650g of the salt scrub and costs me £10.15 from Boots which I felt was a decent price considering the fact that the tub is quite large and will last a considerable amount of time.
This salt scrub comes in a heavy glass tub which is clear so you can see how much of the product is left in it. There is a lid which seals the contents because it has a rubber ring which aids the sealing and then it is effectively locked by clipping it together. Although the packaging isn't particularly important, I do think this product looks really nice and expensive - and I envisage reusing the pot again in the future, possibly for some Lush product that I treat myself to!
The scrub is an off white and, as you would expect, it's gritty - which is what makes it an exfoliator. The texture is semi-liquid but is a little less sloppy that other exfoliators I have used in the past and so I have found that I don't need to use as much of it. Having said that, over time, the salt has become even drier and I've found that I have to mix it with a bit of water before applying it. The smell of the salt is quite pleasant and but subtle, and smells somewhat tropical.
In order to use, I have an exfoliating glove which I use to massage the salt into my skin using a circular motion. It does feel quite rough, but it does leave my skin feel really smooth and well exfoliated. It also has oils in it which has kept my skin nicely hydrated and in really good condition. I tend to have really sensitive skin and yet I haven't responded negatively to this product.
Overall, I recommend this as an exfoliator and think it is a high quality product.
The Sanctuary Salt Scrub is far and away my favourite bath product ever. It is available either in a glass jar which is resealable for around £7, or else in sachets which are £1.50. I tend to buy the sachets and use one a week in order to limit my use to treats.
The scrub is made of sea salt that is mixed in with jojoba, coconut and sweet almond oil. It is a thick paste-like mixture with a long lasting scent. I used it twice last week before parties and my room and towels still smell of it, so its good that the fragrance is lovely - a sort of expensive spa smell is the only description I can come up with as none of the individual fragrances really come through for me.
Once you've used the scrub on your skin it seems to glow a little from the oils, looks smoother and feels really soft. Sanctuary advise using it in the bath and then relaxing in the oils once you've washed it off. I limit my use of it to my arms, shoulders and legs as on delicate skin like the chest and stomach, I think the effect would be too rough.
Sanctuary also advise using their cocoa butter moisturiser afterwards. I never have as the oils in this seem to be enough for my skin, but I am tempted to do so to see how well the fragrance layers and lasts. if i try this i will review it here.
I have been a faithful user of this product for a number of years now, my mother swears by it in fact. With it's lovely smell and great consistency all I can say is give it a try.
There are numerous pros and cons to this products, that as an experienced user I can swear by, first, when used with exfoliating gloves, depending on the amount you use, the oils in the formulation tend to leave your hands feeling a little greasy afterwards. The exfoliating effect doesn't last too long so you have to regularly scoop up a little more as it doesn't really produce a lather either like many other exfoliating gels for example. The jar can be a little hard to open and close, and the metal clasp does in fact start to rust after a number of weeks, as you reach the end of the salt scrub there does tend to be a lot of the essential oils included left over in the bottom of the jar. Another downside to this product is that it does tend to leak, so I wouldn't call it particularly travel friendly, definitely not something you want to pack in your suitcase for a weekend away, and when purchasing make sure you wrap it up in two bags rather than letting it sit with your other purchases.
I do like the contemporary design of the product as it appears to be high end and looks lovely sitting there on a bathroom shelf. It's not at all cumbersome, and one pot is enough to last for a number of weeks even with regular use. This of course depends on how much you use at any one time and the number of uses, but I find that after use your skin is very soft for a week or two after. The only downside of this is that the metal clasp tends also tends to rust at this point.
So overall a lovely, good quality product that is long lasting, but has a tendency to leak, and the clasp has a tendency to rust after a number of weeks.
This is not "a" body scrub, this is "the" body scrub. Get into your shower, turn warm water on, get wet and then open the jar of this amazing-smelling scrub.
Start massaging your skin and the signature Sanctuary fragrance will fill your bathroom.
The texture of the scrub is just right, not too coarse not too thin. It can be easily massaged on and does stick to your body rather than falling in clumps like some other products.
It is also easy to rinse away and leaves your body hydrated but not oily.
A subtle scent will stay with you after you finish your shower, and your skin will look more radiant and really smooth.
There is not much else to add, just try it and this body scrub will speak for itself.
I really cannot find any fault to this product. I love it, and would recommend it to anyone. Enjoy!
I recently received this item as a gift after seeing on offer in my local boots. When I pointed out to my friend that it was something I would love to try but thought it was a little pricey to 'take a risk on', I was delighted to open it on my birthday! This product (and the other products in this range) have a gorgeous, luxurious smell and now I have started to use it I find it very distinctive and have smelt it on a couple of colleagues. I find the smell very sweet and it will last all day, especially if used with the body butter for example. I don't find the scrub too harsh on my skin, but 'strong' enough to remove any dead skin on my body. It leaves me feeling silky smooth and is a pleasure to use. I personally feel it is worth the investment as the product lasts for months as you only need to use a small amount once or twice a week. Great value for money, would recommend to friends and family.
