Simple Refreshing Shower Gel.
For those of you that don't know, I am very cautious about using chemicals around the house or even on myself. It is for that reason that I try to use natural products as often as I can.
With personal hygiene however, that can be difficult, so I try to use brands which use little artificial ingredients.
This is where the simple range of products come in. Whilst I have already reviewed simple soap, I am going to review it's shower gel today. Although I tend to use the soap most of the time, there are occasions when shower gel is more appropriate.
This product is now quite widely available, and reasonably priced. I tend to buy mine at a discounted rate from poundland, so feel I am getting good value for money.
The product comes in a clear plastic container (250ml), and stands on it's frosted flip top lid. Whilst the lid is very easy to open, and the contents can also be squeezed out easily, I find that this can also be a disadvantage. Once initially opened I find that the lid never seems to close properly, leading to slight leakages when the product is resting on its side. This may not be a problem when at home as you can stand it upright. However if you are wanting to transport it anywhere (eg, swimming baths, holidays etc), it can prove to be a little messy if you are carrying it around in a toiletries bag.
My other criticism of the container is that it doesn't have a hook on it, so you can't hook it onto the shower rail - this I feel would be a useful feature for the product.
The design of the container is the usual simple range - shades of green, the design being kept as simple as possible. The information on the back of the product is quite detailed though - so is very informative. It provides information on what ingredients the product contains, how to use it and also the general ethos of the product.
It strongly emphasises the importance of not using any unnecessary artificial ingredients, that the product contains no perfumes or colours and that it is appropriate for sensitive skin.
For me this information is believable. The gel itself is clear in colour and there is no strong smell associated with it. I also find that I can use it with no adverse skin reactions occuring.
Another benefit is that it contains some natural moisturisers, so doesn't leave your skin feeling dry like soap can.
Overall I rate the gel highly, but feel the container could do with being redesigned.

Summary: A good alternative to soap.
