Advantages: Dramatically improves skin quality
Disadvantages: leaves a greasy residue on the skin
The Soap and Glory brand was thought up by Marcia Kilgore (also the founder of Bliss spa) and was launched back in 2006.
Marcia had a desire to create high quality bath and body products at affordable prices, she believed that "You shouldn't have to spend an arm and a leg just to moisturise one"
Soap and Glorys Flake Away is an all over body exfoliant designed to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin improving skin quality, its believed that by rubbing and exfoliating the skin circulation is improved therefore improving oxygenation around the body and creating far healthier looking skin.
Ingredients within the exfoliator include:
Sea salt- these small grains of salt allow for exfoliation of the skin, used within all exfoliators the sea salt grains exfoliate the skin removing all dead skin cells.
Grape seed - known for its regenerative properties for damaged and streched skin tissue.
Almond oil - helps to restore and preserve moisture within the skin, keeping in more soft and supple.
Shea butter - which is known for its nourishing and moisturising properties therefore keeping the skin nice and soft.
Sugar - apart from helping to give the Flake away its sweet scent the grains are also knows to have abrasive properties which would also aid in the exfoliating process of removing dead skin cells.
Flake away comes in a round screw top tub, it follows the usual Soap and Glory image of being cute and sassy with the usual quirky quotes and 1950s images. The Tub is a bright bubble gum pink colour which is very eye catching and girlie, along with the quality of the products I will admitt that the packaging really appeals to me too, they look so good standing in the bathroom.
Directions for use are as follows:
Apply a handful of Flake away onto damp skin, Massage in circular motions until most of the grains are gone. Rinse Well and pat dry.
You are also reccomended that after use to apply either a moisturising body lotion of butter.
Now I will openly admitt that at first I was very reluctant to give this product a go, I was concerned that the sea salt grains would be too rough and abraisive on my sensitive skin but I decided to give it a go anyway...I really didnt have anything to be concerned about. It was perfect, the small grains were gentle enough to exfoliate without causing any form of irritation at all.
I have now been using Flake Away for aprox 8months and I really love it. I apply it every two to three days whilst having a shower, I think that this is certainly the best way to use flake away as the flow of water from the shower head allows you to thoroughly remove any remainig salt crystals on your body. When I did attempt to use this in the bath the crystals have nowhere to escape (ie: the plug hole) so instead float around in the bath water or cling to your body, this also sometimes left small crystal residues on the skin which could cause irritation . You are also left with a greasy salt residue around the bath so your find yourself having to thoroughly cleaning the bath out after.
Now when you unscrew the lid the first thing you notice is that distinctive soap and glory Pink scent which I assosiate with a lot of other Soap and Glory product available on the market, All I can really describe it as is extra sweet, fruity and very feminine but also a quiet sickly scent but I personally think the scent is lush and cant get enough of it.
The exfoliator itself is light brown in colour and when you scoop some out with your fingers you discover that it has a consistency which reminds me of that of the wet sand feel you get when your at the beach mixed with your sun screen lol, it has a very oily, grainly texture to it .
Its easy to massage into wet skin and spreads evenly over your body, it gently scrubs the surface removing all of your dead skin cells very effectively.
After showering the skin is left feeling fresh and hydrated, Skin feels extremely smooth and that feeling is long lasting between use. It works exceptionally well on areas of tough dry skin, smoothing them and removing that excess tough dry skin. It does though leave an oily residue but it does give a clean polished look to the skin.
I have certainly noticed a considerable difference since using this poduct, it has dramatically improved the quality of my skin, its so much smoother and healthier looking especially across my stomach, arms and legs, I also like how the scent of this products lasts a long time too which is an added bonus. I would certainly recommend this as a great exfoliant.
If you do want to give this product a try I reccomend that you go and purchase one of their mini travel size pots so you can decide before you dive straight in and get a 300ml tub, you can find Soap and Glory products in any larger Boots stores or online.
The product is available in two sizes
A 300ml tub which retails at £6.50, Now Im currently on my third tub in 8months so roughly a 300ml tub lasts me approx 10weeks which I think is great value for money as a little really does go a long way. you can also purchase a smaller travel size tub of 50ml which retails at £2.25 perfect for taking away on holiday or if you are going away.
Summary: A great exfoliant from Soap and Glory
