Advantages: Fairly envigorating scrub, foams up which can save time for some
Disadvantages: Smell is too sweet, looks glittery, foam is a bit unnecessary for me when I want a straight scrub
As I absolutely love the Soap & Glory shower gel "Foam Call", I was interested in trying some of their other shower products and I had high hopes for them. They have a lot of different body scrub products available at the moment, such as Flake Away and Breakfast Scrub, which come in pots, and Pulp Friction and Scrub Actually which come in tubes, as does Scrub of Your Life which is the one I ended up purchasing. I was not too sure of the difference between all of these, so it was pretty much random which one I went for. I just ruled out Scrub Actually because the packaging is horrible (retro photo of some random lady trying to look "saucy" which I hate!)
Scrub of Your Life comes in a pink tube with bold writing but no pictures on it, so looks a bit more neutral, which I prefer. I like the tube format as it stands on top of the flip cap, meaning there is always product available to be easily squeezed out. It contains 200 ml which is an ample amount and should last me a while.
When I first squeezed out some of the scrub I was surprised by the appearance of it. It is a clear-ish gel with pink exfoliating balls inside it, but it is very shiny when it comes out of the tube and almost looks like it is filled with glitter. This makes it look very, very girly and in my opinion a little bit tacky. The scent is quite strong and extremely sweet and sugary. I would say it smells like marshmallows. It is a bit like the scent of the Soap & Glory hand cream Hand Food, but I think it is even sweeter. I would prefer the scent to be slightly toned down, and I prefer something more natural as this can definitely be a bit much first thing in the morning! I much much prefer the lovely juicy and fresh smell of the Foam Call shower gel and I now see that from the description Pulp Friction seems to have a similar fragrance to Foam Call, so maybe I made the wrong decision when confronted with so many different scrubs in the Soap & Glory display!
When I rub the scrub into my arms and legs it feels fairly "scrubby" as there are a decent amount of exfoliating balls in the product, but I would prefer it to feel a little bit harsher as I do like quite a rough scrub. You can feel it working and it is not too gentle, but I would say it has a medium intensity as far as exfoliating scrubs go. As I rub it in, the scrub starts to foam up and produce some lather. I am not too keen on this, as it means the product is trying to be a cross between a scrub and a shower gel, whereas I prefer to use a real scrub and then follow it by washing with a separate shower gel afterwards. I suppose the dual action of Scrub of Your Life could save some people time in the shower but personally I am usually quite happy to dawdle in the bathroom and take my time with different products. Also I wouldn't put the scrub everywhere - such as I wouldn't use a scrub under my arms - yet obviously I would still want to wash there, so it can't completely cancel the need for a shower gel.
I think this scrub would go down really well as a present with a really girly young teenage girl who is getting into pampering herself and likes the pink packaging, glittery look of the scrub and sweet smell, but personally I found all that a bit off putting and the product itself was just okay for me. I will use it and it did leave my skin smooth so is a decent enough exfoliator, but I won't repurchase when the tube is finished and I am a bit disappointed as it is nowhere near as nice as the lovely Foam Call shower gel. I will probably end up trying some of the other Soap & Glory scrubs but will pay closer attention to the descriptions next time to find one which is a bit more natural smelling.
Scrub of Your Life costs £7 in Boots and is currently on the mix and match 3 for 2 deal.
Summary: A bit of a disappointing purchase from S&G this time
