“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Shower Gel / Suitable for: Body „
The last few months have been alittle more expensive than what I originally predicted. Countless birthdays, parties, unexpected spending, childrens growth spurts and this ever changing weather has meant my spare cash has been no cash! Its one of those things, so to help things out alittle, Ive been trying to spend less on the everyday essentials and buy cheaper alternatives such as basic or supermarket brands. I bought this product as part of an online grocery order from Tesco.com for 80p, size 500ml.
Why did I buy it?
Purely because of cost and size, no other reason. Generally when it comes to shower or bath products, I use branded products and ideally those that I have used before and know there wont be any irritation to my skin. On this occasion my preferred choice, which is Sanex, wasn't discounted so I had to go for a cheaper variety of shower gel. I simply couldn't bear going down the basic of the basic route e.g shower gel for 25p as an example! So this was a compromise.
How is it packaged?
This 500ml product comes in a clear plastic bottle The lid opens at the top by pushing with your thumb the cap to expose a hole. Squeeze or pour product out.
Very basic and simple in design. On the front is the ' Tesco ' logo with the words ' Revitalising Shower Gel ' running down the side. A picture of I assume some seaweed type plant right next to the lettering. It mentions what it contains which is natural sea mineral extracts.
On the back it tells you what product is supposed to do, directions for use, general warnings and ingredients. It also mentions product has a 24 month shelf life once opened.
What is it supposed to do?
Cleanse the skin, hydrate and giving you the general feeling of being revitalised.
Aqua,Sodium Laureth Sulfate ,Sodium Chloride ,Cocamidopropyl Betaine ,PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate ,DMDM Hydantoin ,Tetrasodium EDTA ,Benzyl Salicylate , Propylene Glycol, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid , Limonene,Polyquaternium-7, Magnesium Nitrate, Benzophenone-4, Maris Sal, Sodium Hydroxide ,CI 42090 , Methylchloroisothiazolinone ,Magnesium Chloride ,Methylisothiazolinone ,CI 42051
How to use
Simply apply to wet skin, lather and rinse thoroughly ( that's what it says on the packaging ). I put some on a sponge and rub all over to create lather, wash then rinse.
How did it perform?
Whether it's a product Ive used before or not, I always smell it first before using. The fragrance to this product does have that sea like scent to it e.g fresh, clean, no floral or musky notes, very simple. I don't mind this kind of smell, but for me to like it and appreciate it it cant smell synthetic, and this does. Its not strong or overpowering, I would say alittle on the boring and predictable side, with no real depth to it.
The product itself is bright blue in colour. Consistency a touch runnier than what Im used to in regards to shower gels I have used in the past. Application on my sponge was easy, but I didn't feel there was enough lather, and I had to go back to the bottle and add more. So I used a lot more product than what I anticipated. This in turn meant more time spent actually in the shower, as I had to spend longer making sure I was as clean as possible.
While using the product I could still get a whiff of the fragrance, but it didn't linger nor was it long lasting. I like to have a bath/shower, and after using whatever product I have used, I like the bathroom to smell of it. Not all of the time but most of the time. This didn't.
After coming out of the shower, I didn't feel it dried out my skin, but it definitely didn't hydrate. It cleaned my skin fine in the end, but that's about it.
I cant comment on whether this irritated my psoriasis, as before using this Ive been suffering from it on my neck ( probably a mixture of humid heat and stress! )I don't think its made it worse, but its no better. So if you suffer from any skin conditions such as mine, just tread carefully.
Would I buy this again? Probably not. It was a means to an end. The size is good, but if I find I have to use more product than what I normally do, the size is irrelevant really so not saving money or making product last longer. The foaming of this was poor, and felt I needed to clean myself twice to get the same level of cleanliness Im used to. I also felt it didn't actually add anything to my skin or experience so didn't enjoy. Smell wasn't very natural.
Not a bad shower gel if you are not fussy-but this is not for me.
*Tesco Revitalising Sea Minerals Shower Gel*
Having moved into somewhere with a shower and not a bath, for the first time, I recently found myself looking for a shower gel. The Tesco Revitalising Sea Minerals Shower Gel caught my eye in Tesco, because of its price of only 50p.
This shower gel comes in a clear plastic container, and the gel itself is bright blue. The bottle is shaped so that it is narrower at the centre, making it easy to hold. The blue, plastic top continues this pattern, becoming thinner at the top, and ending with a round flip-lid.
The gel itself is not too thick or thin, and is easy to squeeze out the bottle, even when its nearly empty. It is bright blue in colour, but makes white bubbles. There is 300ml in this bottle, and it has an expiry date of 2.5 years after the date it was packaged.
I only need to use a small amount of this product at a time, as it lathers really well. The scent is not particularly strong, and I can't pick out any marine smells, but it does smell nice. I feel nice and fresh after using this and do recommend it if you want a basic shower gel. It's not for you if you want something fancy, and if you want to still smell of the gel after washing.
I award 4/5 stars, as the scent is lacking, but it does the job and is good value. It can be purchased for Tesco stores or online.
My local Tesco seemed to be selling off their own brand shower gels last week. I've got loads of Body Shop and various other shower gels left but seeing these for 40p for 500ml and 25p for 300ml I bought a couple of Lilac and Silk in the smaller size and a large Sea Minerals- these were even cheaper than Everyday Value which was 30p for 300ml. Their website has the Sea Minerals back up in price to 80p at the moment but still cheap.
The bottle is clear plastic so you can see the shower gel inside which is handy. The curvy shape makes it easier to hold but being quite a large sized bottle it is slightly awkward. It's easy to squeeze as the bottle isn't made from stiff plastic which is the case with the Body Shop shower gels. The blue lid is a flip top with pour control hole. The label is less difficult to read than their Lilac and Silk bottle because the shower gel is dark and the writing is white. It reads 'Tesco Foamy Shower wash', 'Sea minerals with natural extracts' the ingredients and directions are on the back. It says it's going to cleanse and hydrate my skin. I wouldn't say this is a cheap looking product.
The shower gel is a nice bright turquoise in colour. This isn't a cream wash so is semi clear. It has a fresh quite masculine smell, sweet with a toilet cleaner undertone- I do quite like it though. The scent doesn't linger on you once out of the shower so would suit either sex.
The gels consistency isn't thick or particularly thin and isn't gloopy. One dollop on the bath sponge or lily produces a good lather enough for my whole body. It smells nice and fresh whilst showering though the scent doesn't last once rinsed off. Sea Minerals isn't a cream shower gel and doesn't produce creamy lather but does bubble up. This is an effective cleaner it easily washes deodorant from underarms with minimal effort. It says it's hydrating but I don't feel hydrated but rather dry. It is refreshing though and I suppose it does revitalise and wake me up.
I'm undecided if I like this shower gel, it does get you clean, smells okay, feels okay whilst washing with it and hasn't irritated my skin other than drying it out a bit.
I haven't really got any complaints but 3 stars from me as it is drying.
Tesco do a lot of things in their Value Range and we do buy them quite a bit to save us some money. We find they are all very good quality and great value for money when you are watching the pennies. Tesco Shower gel Sea Minerals is not one of their CHEAPEST shower gels but it is ONE of the cheapest in their own range. It is a great bright blue plastic container which is clear and slightly opaque so you can see the contents clearly inside the 300ml bottle.
The lid flips on and off and isn't too stiff to use and it stands upright in the shower. It's too tall to put onto our shower stand and the downside is that it doesn't have a hanger so you can't hang it beside you when you have a shower which is a bit of a pain.
Me and the little lad love it and we think it smells more for men than for women as it has a slightly more masculine scent and I think it's less suitable for ladies than men. It lathers up really well and you don't need to use very much to get a good foam starting.
I don't know exactly what sea minerals are supposed to smell like but it smells like one of those Lynx sprays you can get and when I've been showered in it my other half always says I smell nice so something must be working! It is hydrating and moistuising and leaves me skin feeling soft and fresh all over, from top to bottom. I use it on my face too and have suffered no adverse effects at all.
The little lad likes me to put some into his bath and we put it under the running water and it foams up a treat. We have to be careful though as he has sensitive skin and is prone to eczema but so far this has not irritated him at all and seems to be quite mild.
My mum does the household shopping once every week, and sometimes she goes to Asda t do it, sometimes Sainsburys and Aldi, and now and again she will go and do it at Tesco.
Now I must admit I do find it a little bit annoying when she buys shower gels from the supermarkets, as I'm an Avon representative and I prefer her to buy them from me as that way I get profit. It especially annoys me when I offer to give her a discount and she still buys it elsewhere!
Sometimes though when she sees a bargain in the supermarket she just can't resist. And when she saw this shower gel at only 47p she couldn't just leave it on the shelf. A similar one from Avon would have cost her double the price, so I can't really blame her for getting this instead.
One thing about this shower gel that had me a bit worried is the fact its a supermarkets own brand. She's bought Aldi own brand shower gels home before and they were really rubbish, but this one I have to say is just as good as any of the branded products out there.
The bottle is a lovely bright blue which fits in comfortably in our white and blue bathroom. The shape is moulded so it fits well in the hand and doesn't slip out too easily. The lid is also very easily opened and closed.
The shower gel is easy to make into a lather. It isn't that soapy but some foam is created when you lather this into your body with some water. It isn't greasy or smelly and in my opinion does the job fine. It can be used in the bath or shower and leaves your skin feeling cleansed and smelling clean and fresh.
For the price I would definitely recommend this product. I always feel lovely and clean after I have showered or bathed with it and have no complaints about it whatsoever. It is an own label but its just as good as any branded shower gels out there.
Thanks for reading xo
I go through a lot of shower gel and bubble baths as I use a lot of them. I will try and stock up on any of these bottles when I see a good offer on.
This means that I have a cupboard of bits and pieces always ready to use. One item that I found in my cupboard this week was half a bottle of 'Sea Minerals' shower gel from Tesco. I remember using some of the shower gel and then putting what was left in the bottle away as I like to have a lot of different products.
The bottle is made of plastic which is good for me as I like to do my bit for the environment and always recycle bottles like this once they have been washed out.
The Tesco sea minerals shower gel is a bright blue colour and the bottle is clear plastic so I can see the liquid through the bottle. There is a bright blue coloured plastic lid on top of the bottle and I think it looks like a nice shower gel to use.
When I am using the shower gel in the hot shower I do not need to use that much of it to get a nice amount of soap suds on my flannel. The shower gel feels nice to use on my skin and I like the smell as it is very refreshing.
I do not think that the smell is that feminine so any men in your house might get away with using this on their skin to.
I have tried a lot of shower gels and bath products from the Tesco's own range and have thought that they were all quite good products and they did not annoy my sensitive skin so this is good for me.
If I remember correctly the Tesco's own range of shower gels cost around 50 pence or so for the bottle which I think is very good value as they are all good quality and I like the scents. As not a lot of the shower gel needs to be used I think the bottle lasts quite a long time to so this is good.
I would suggest giving the Tesco sea minerals shower gel a try as I liked the smell and I think it is a good value for money shower gel for all of the family.
Getting my boys to have showers on a school night has been a relatively easy task due to the fact that we have let them have their own shower gel and let them pick it themselves. This is the one which Jacob chose and I was surprised as he picked a blue one when red is his favourite colour! For the purposes of this review I have had a dreaded shower despite not liking them just so I could give my opinion of the gel.
The gel comes in a nice clear plastic bottle which is good as it allows the user to see how much of the product is left and it comes in a good size of 300ml which usually lasts in my house about 2 weeks, that is with Daddy using it occasionally and also Ben. The front of the bottle has the product name in white writing and a small picture of s clump of sea weed and the back of the bottle again has white writing which details the directions for use and the ingredients of the gel.
The gel is a blue colour and a good thick consistency which does not easily run off the hand when squeezed out of the bottle. The gel comes out of a flip lid on the top of the bottle which makes it easy for closing once you need to do so one handed.
~~USE AND RESULTS~~
I squeezed a good sized amount into my hand and after rubbing the gel into my hands to start making a lather I rubbed it into my body and found it did make a nice blue lather all over and for me this is a bonus as it does encourage Jacob to clean the whole of his body so that he can be a blue man!
The smell of the gel is quite a pleasant one, I would say that it was a more masculine fragrance and as this is sea minerals I did instantly get reminded of the smell of sea weed! The scent is very apart throughout the whole time I have it on my body and after rincing off, which is very simple to do, I did notice that the smell was still there. For me it was a bit strange and I felt like I smelled like a man but Jacob loves it.
The results from using this gel were pleasant and I did fell that my whole body was clean and fresh and for Jacob he too looked and smelt lovely. He liked how it made him more independent in the shower as it was easier than Mommy having to cover him in soap. He also used the gel in his hair as he does have very short hair and I did notice that it left it feeling very soft. I did not notice any drying out of my skin from this gel and neither did my hubby who does in fact have sensitive skin so I would recommend this for both normal and sensitive skin.
I am going to list the ingredients of the product for those who wish to know them, they are:-
Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl, Bethaine, Sodium Chlorde, Parfum, disodium EDTA,, DMDM Hydantoin, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl, Methylpropional, Limonene, Triethylene Glycol, Benzophenone-4, Benzyl Alcohol, Citric Acvid, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Magnesium Chloride, Magnesium Notragte, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Hydrolyzed Pearl, Maris Sal, Fucus Vesiculosus Extract, Methylisothiazolne, Sodium Benzoate, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Methylparaben, propylparaben, hexylene Glytcl, Sodium Hydroxide, CI 42090
There is a warning on the back of the bottle regarding getting the gel into your eyes, if this does happen then rinse eyes immediately with warm clean water to clear the gel away.
~~PRICE AND AVAILABILITY~~
As this is a Tesco's own brand shower gel then it is only available to buy in Tesco stores. It is currently priced at 48p for a 300ml bottle which I fell is a great value and the bottle last in our house for around 2 weeks.
Overall I am going to recommend this shower gel especially to men as the fragrance is quite masculine and it does leave the skin clean and soft. The price is also another great factor with this shower gel.
When I went into Tesco's to do my weekly shop, I was in the toiletries section of the store and as we had ran out of shower gel, the Tesco own brand Sea minerals shower gel caught my eye, and for around 47p I thought this was a very reasonable price so decided to try it.
The packaging is a clear plastic bottle through which you can see the blue coloured shower gel, which I think is a good idea as you can see the product you are buying through the packaging. It has a picture of some seaweed on the front and 'Shower Gel Sea Minerals' written in white writing that is clear and easy to read.
The shower gel itself is quite a thin consistency, and doesn't lather up very well unless you use quite a bit of product which isn't very good when you want it to last. The scent is a fresh, clean smell which is very pleasant and what you want from a shower gel.
This product is at a good price for what you get and i would recommend this to people who want a good shower gel, that cleans you and smells nice and fresh.
I always enjoy trying out new toiletries and am always tempted by a bargain and so the Tesco Sea Minerals Shower Gel made its way into my shopping trolley recently. The shower gel is available only in Tesco stores and retails for 47p so its quite cheap. What I wanted to know was whether it was cheap and cheerful or cheap and nasty!
The shower gel comes from a range and there is a sea minerals bath foam also available.
The shower gel comes in a clear plastic bottle with a blue flip top lid. The bottle holds 300ml. The gel is a lovely bright blue colour and you can see this through the bottle. There isn't any hanger on the bottle so you have to sit it on a shelf or on the side of your bath but this didn't bother me too much.
The shower gel is designed to cleanse and hydrate your skin so lets see whether it did that or not.
Opening the bottle up you can smell a fresh smell I wouldn't say that it is particularly sea-like. Then again I wouldn't really want to smell of the sea after washing! To me it smells more of a masculine smell than a feminine smell. There is nothing distinctive about it and smells much like many mens deodorants. It is pleasant enough but nothing exciting.
The shower gel comes easily out of the bottle and is of moderate consistency. It lathers up easily and gives a good foam. Tesco says that it cleanses and hydrates your skin, well yes I did feel after using it that my skin was cleansed but I didn't fel that it was hydrated. My skin didn't feel particularly any drier than before using it but it certainly didn't feel any softer or smoother after using.
My feeling is that this is an ok shower gel if all you are wanting is something to clean your skin. However if like me you want a shower gel that will leave your skin feeling softer and with a gorgeous smell then I would advise you give this one a miss. This is one Tesco product that wont find its way back into my shopping trolley again.
I bought this as an alternative to Boots own brand sea mineral shower gel which is lovely but considerably more pricey. At just 47p for 300ml, this is really good value for money.
The shower gel has a very nice, fresh smell. It's not too strong which I think is good - I like nice smelling shower gels but I don't want to be overpowered and coughing! I don't find that the shower gel leaves a lasting fragrance on my skin, but that's not what I buy shower gel for, that is the job of body lotion in my book.
The gel is a good consistency, it's not too watery so you can use it with or without a sponge/body puff. On the other hand, it isn't so thick that you can't squeeze every last drop out of the nicely shaped and easy to squeeze bottle!
It lathers up really well, and is certainly a very good cleansing shower gel. I don't find that it dries out my skin, and I do have a tendency to dry elbows and legs.
This is excellent value for money and is my shower gel of choice these days
I have a strange aversion to blue toiletries, for me to even touch a blue bathroom product it has to be very special indeed such as the ballistics and bubble bars from Lush.
However, in Tesco recently I spotted a basket of reduced price shower gels which included their own brand Sea Minerals gel priced at just 25p for a 300ml bottle. As soon as I saw that fantastic price I decided to forget my aversion to all smellies blue and grabbed a few bottles.
The gel comes out of the bottle easily and a small amount squeezed onto my sponge gave a decent lather when I came to wash with it. The lather isn't amazingly thick but I must admit it's very cleansing and found the bubbles to be very soft and silky, which I hadn't been expecting with such a cheap shower gel.
After my shower I found my skin was a little dry, not overly so considering just how inexpensive the shower gel was but while using this bottle I found I was having to use creamier and thicker body creams just to put some moisture back into my skin. This is a nuisance as I have found other shower gels which don't have this effect, in particular Original Source, but then these ones tend to have a higher price tag than this Tesco gel so it's swings and roundabouts.
The smell is a little too masculine for my liking if I'm honest, I was hoping it would be more like the Lagoon shower gel from Avon and indeed it does contain a small amount of saltiness which is vaguely reminiscent of the sea but really in my opinion the name Sea Minerals doesn't mean anything at all! It has that very vague musky aroma that men's shower gels tend to have, in this one it's an undertone but honestly if it were any stronger I wouldn't have been using this gel.
Even though I paid a ridiculously low price for my shower gel, the normal price is actually only 49p so there's no excuse for you not to try it for yourself. I believe there are other fragrances in the range including a pink one and green one, I shall certainly try these ones as although I wasn't overly impressed with the smell of Sea Minerals I did like the cleansing effect of the shower gel overall.
I thought I would try a different type of shower gel for a change and as I saw this one on the shelves in Tesco. It is described as Sea Minerals Shower Gel.
The bottle is see through in colour but appears blue as this is the colour of the contents. Although it is a very basic bottle no fancy picture or writing it is quite nicely shaped. It has an easy to use flip lid. The bottle is recylable and contains 300ml of the shower gel.
When you first open the gel there is a nice fresh smell. The shower gel is a nice consistency - It stays on your hand nicely and you do not lose the gel between the fingers when you are trying to apply it to your body. It is a pretty blue colour and smells very pleasant. It foams up quite nicely especially if you use the gel on a sponge. It made my skin feel clean and soft. It was refreshing to have a change from the usual fruity smells. It was also great because the whole family could use the one bottle as it was not too girly or too manly!
The shower gel is a great price and cost just 49p. It is available from Tesco.
They do other shower gels in the same sort of range. I saw herbal one which I am going to try next.
Summary: very good price and nice gel
This shower gel is just as good as any other branded product. If you like radox then you will like this as it is a very similar smell and consistancy.
It is blue as you can see and it has a refreshing smell and wakes you up when your having a shower in the morning.
It is quite slimey to the consistancy but washes off well and quickly.
It leaves you smelling quite nice but not too strongly.
The bottle is quite plain and is see though so you can see the shower gel. Theres a little picture on the front but it doesnt really reflect the product at all. I havent noticed any difference in my skin, its just nice to have a wash with.
Its only 79p from tescos, and you get quite a big bottle for that. you only need a palm full amount everyday so it lasts quite a long time. It lathers quite well and it isnt rubbish like some own brand shower gels are.
I decided that I needed to cut down on my shopping budget, with all of this credit crunch going on. So when I was going to get my usual shower gel, I decided to have a look at the supermarkets own brand products. After looking at many different shower gel's, I decided to give Tesco Shower Gel - Sea Minerals a go and at only 79p for a 500ml bottle - even better!!!
I have found this product to be no different than any of the leading brand shower gel's that I have used. I does its job and it does it well.
It comes in a basic, waterproof bottle. Does not look very fancy, but who minds at that price and as long as it does its job I am happy. A bottle goes a long way too. It claims to cleanse and hydrate your skin. And when I have my morning shower, this product does help to wake me up.
As part of my drive to bring down the price of a weekly shop I decided to try a cheaper shower gel and bought this.
At £0.79 for 500ml it is a very good price and certainly worth a try.
A waterproof bottle with a basic look to it. On the front there are the words Tesco Shower Gel in white and a picture of some seaweed - the back has more product information on it.
This claims to be specially formulated to cleanse and hydrate your skin leaving you feeling revitalised.
When in the shower, click open the lid and squeeze out the gel. As with all shower gels apply to wet skin, lather up and rinse taking care to avoid your eyes and mouth!
This bright blue gel lathers up really well. It has a pleasant clean aroma and is reasonably thick - certainly thicker than I expected for the price.
I have been using this a couple of weeks now and it hasn't dried my skin at all. I'm not sure my skin feels hydrated but it certainly wakes me up. For anyone looking at making reductions where they can, I would certainly recomend this as a good, cheap shower gel.
