Let me get straight into this by saying that I absolutely hate chocolate. I canīt eat chocolate bars and a chocolate cake for my birthday means a day of dieting for me. The smell of chocolate however is something that I could indulge in indefinitely. The Body Shop Chocomania range is my dream as well as my financial downfall all at one. Thanks to a very generous mother I am the proud owner of the complete range including shower gel, body lotion, body butter and lip balm. Thinking about it I must have been a very, very good child to deserve all these treats.

The Chocomania shower gel comes in the standard body shop size of 250ml for 4 Pounds. Granted, 4 Pounds for a little bit of shower gel is quite steep when you compare it to the lovely flavours of much cheaper Tesco shower gels but hey, it`s Body Shop so you do pay for the name. Quality wise I usually like Body Shop products although I have some niggles with the lip butters as well as one of their face creams. With the Body Shop you do know that you are paying for high quality ingredients and a minimum of chemicals. The flavours are incredibly varied and so far I haven`t found any other brand producing bath products with such an indulgent chocolate scent.
My (male) housemate had his own interesting view on the look of the chocolate shower gel but really, who cares it is very unattractively brown. The scent is what matters and this really convinces here. It is heavenly chocolaty and fills the entire house, making even me want to eat chocolate cake. Unfortunately the scent does not linger very long on one's skin so it is really only good to improve your shower experience. If you want to keep smelling of chocolate try the body lotion, equally gorgeous scent that lingers for hours.
As a shower gel I am not completely convinced. I like the squeaky clean feeling that you get when you use a very base heavy but the reasonable voice in my head reminds me that showering in bleach-like products is not the best idea. The Chocomania I donīt get this super clean feeling and it does not foam very well. Donīt get me wrong, it is a perfectly fine shower gel and probably much, much better for your skin than cheaper ones. It is soap-free which is obviously a good thing for your skin but I really, really like soap so nice try, but not for me. I would say that it is more suitable for dry and sensitive skin than oily skin. My skin is fairly sensitive and I never had any kind of bad reaction/rash after using the Body Shop shower gel. In the rare occasion that I use it to wash my face it does not burn in my eyes and removed make up effectively.

My rating of 3 Stars is due to positive points of great scent and good quality ingredients. The things I did not like were the soap free-ness (that others probably like), the fact that the scent does not linger and that the gel does not lather very well. The consistency is nice and creamy but you need quite a lot of it to get clean properly. For 4 Pounds a bottle it is quite an expensive fun but a nice little treat to start the day.
Iīd love to add a little plus point for reminding me of the cheesy song "Chocolate" by Soul Control!
Summary: Good quality shower gel
