The Body Shop Coconut Bath Shower Gel / Cream
Advantages: Incredibly moisturising and rich
Disadvantages: The smell is odd
I'm a big fan of the Body Shop, but with the prices being a bit on the steep side I tend to only get stuff when they have a sale on - and I've noticed this seems to be all the time at the moment! I went on the website a few weeks back and everything had an extra 40% off, including sale items, so I picked up a few bargains.
This bottle I bought cost only £1.80 for a 400ml bottle. Looking online now, I can only see the 250ml bottle, which would cost £4 at full price but is currently available for £2.60. There are also other coconut products available including a body butter and body scrub.
Hit or miss...
I love fruit fragranced products, but coconut is a scent I find to be a bit hit or miss - sometimes it works for me but sometimes it doesn't! So I really wasn't sure whether or not I would like this as I've not tried it before, or had a sneaky sniff in-store, but I figured for the price I would take the risk.
As with all Body Shop shower products, this comes in a sturdy, chunky bottle which is see-through so you can see the creamy looking product inside. I smelt this as soon as it arrived, and it is definitely has a strong aroma of coconut - this is the first and only scent I can detect and it seemed to have a nice, sweet coconut fragrance.
Thick and luxurious
Using this in the shower, I noticed it has a creamy texture, but it has a slight stickiness to it too, making it a kind of cream and gel hybrid! It really is very rich and quite luxurious. I was also impressed at how well this lathered up - I found I didn't need very much of it to create a really nice, creamy lather - and I use a shower puff in the shower so this helped to make things even more lathery! It felt incredibly moisturising and really pleasant to use - again it felt like quite a luxurious shower product.
However ... sadly it didn't deliver quite so well on the fragrance front! Although it does smell coconutty, it also has another underlying scent once I started using it which was just a bit odd and non-descript - but not at all pleasant! It smells a bit plasticky to me and it really isn't nice at all! I found this is the smell that hits me almost as soon as I start applying the gel, and the coconut fragrance pretty much disappears.
Maybe this is just me, and I am sure other people may have a better experience, but I definitely have a problem with the smell of this product. However, the gel itself is of a really high quality and it is one of the best shower products I've used in terms of moisturisation. So I think I can try and ignore the odd smell - and it isn't overpowering or anything, luckily! However I do have to lop off two stars for the scent as it really doesn't agree with me! But the gel itself is great and I'll keep on using it reasonably happily! I'm just glad I got it for such a bargain price.
Summary: I'm not too coconuts about the smell!
