The Body Shop Coconut Soap
Advantages: Lovely smelling, Lathers up well, Cleansing/Moisterising/So ftening, Ethical
Disadvantages: A little pricey, Scent is quite mild, Better as a hand soap
I recently received a Body Shop Coconut gift set, which contains a number of gorgeous coconut scented products including a bar of soap.
The Body Shop Coconut Soap came in a transparent wrapper. Very plain and simple. However when purchased individually in The Body Shop (not part of a gift set) the soap has a more attractive wrapper. The soap is the size of a standard bar of soap (100g) and costs £2.00 - this isn't too expensive but it's certainly more than most soaps. It is a white colour, has 'The Body Shop' embossed on the top and looks similar to a regular bar of soap.
The wrapper doesn't specify what skin type the soap is suitable for so I assume that the soap is suitable for all skin types. I would describe my skin as 'normal'.
My favourite aspect of this particular soap is the scent. I love tropical scents, in particular coconut. I can wear it all year round and feel like I'm off on holidays every time I get a whiff! The scent of the soap isn't very apparent through the wrapper or even when the wrapper is removed - I felt slightly disappointed to begin with. However the scent really comes through when you use the soap with water. It's not overpowering, it's quite a mild coconut scent and it's mixed with a soapy smell (much like Dove soap). Honestly, I would prefer to have a less soapy smell and a more coconutty smell but that's not to say that it doesn't smell good.
I don't generally like using soap on my body. I never feel very clean if I use soap, plus a lot of soaps make my skin feel sticky (and they slip everywhere!). However I have tried this soap in the shower. It created a rich foamy lather on my skin and I didn't need to use much. It washed off easily and to my disappointment by skin was left quite sticky. My disappointment was soothed slightly when I dried myself and my skin felt soft, cleansed and not sticky at all. The smell was pleasant whilst using the soap in the shower but didn't really transfer to my skin very well. The scent was very faint and wore off very quickly.
I have found that this particular soap is more useful as a hand soap (I usually use a liquid soap but luckily have a soap dish tucked away!). The scent is very obvious when using on my hands and it seems to transfer a lot better than it did on my body. The scent lasts a lot longer too. The soap lathers up well and leaves my hands feeling clean, moisturised and refreshed. I have no complaints.
I have been using The Body Shop Coconut Soap regularly for a couple of weeks and the bar is still reasonably sized.
The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter contains Community Fair Trade virgin organic coconut oil (with coconuts grown in Samoa), which means it contains good ethics as well as natural ingredients! The Body Shop are also against animal testing and don't test any of their products on animals, which is good to know.
Overall this is a nice soap that I'm happy to recommend.
Summary: A nice soap.
