Recently I have had a lot going on in my personal life and so I have been aimlessly wandering around the town where I live wasting time sometimes and looking for little treats for myself. I spotted this cranberry joy body scrub in my local Body Shop and decided that as it was reduced to just £3.00 from its original price of £12.50 (at least that's what it said!) that I would treat myself. This seemed like a very reasonable price and I picked this up along with a few other products, some I've tried before, some I haven't. I wanted something that was going to help me look after myself and potentially cheer me up with a nice scent while I was having a relaxing soak in the bath.
I have been using scrubs and exfoliating treatments for quite some time now. I normally have very smooth skin all over and my husband is often complimenting me on this so I try and maintain this even if I am feeling a bit low or am not making much effort with make-up and hair styling. Using a body scrub is a simple way for me to allow me to look after my skin using minimal time and effort and so I am always attracted to new and different sounding scrubs.
This body scrub actually looks quite fluid rather than hard and full of substance. When I opened the round screw top lid I was met with what looked like watery jelly that had small seeds within it. These seeds are cranberry seeds and there were also some other little bits that looked a little bit like hard dirt or tiny sticks. This was not off putting at all and I will often just use a scrub without even bothering to check the ingredients, as long as its from a brand name I trust and has a scent that I find appealing. There wasn't anything different about my use of this and as soon as I realised that this smelt like berries (although not specifically of cranberries) I was diving in to the tub with my hand and running this over my wet skin (while sitting in the bath). Once I began to rub this over my body I wasn't surprised to find that it was incredibly fluid and jelly like. This was quite runny and I did have to use a little more than I would with a more coarse scrub just to get an even spread across my body. It's best to use this one in the bath rather than the shower just to avoid it all being washed away before you can even 'scrub' yourself with it. I have been able to use this on a daily basis with no problems at all and because it is runny its running out quite quick!
Once I use this I always leave the liquid/jelly on for a few minutes before submerging myself back in the bath to let it all be washed away with ease. It is simple to wash this away and there is quite a bit of residue left in the bath after I use this but this is easily rectified with a quick rinse from the shower.
This scrub in all is probably worth a 4 out of 5 from me. The smell is one of berries, numerous berries and it is difficult to put my finger on a specific flavour. The price that I paid was absolutely fantastic but I would be a little disappointed to have paid £12.50 for this and have it run out as quickly as it is, perhaps I'm just being too generous when using it. I have found that quite a lot is needed for a good coverage but that despite it being quite liquid/jelly in appearance/feel it does work quite well at exfoliating and leaves me with wonderful, soft, smooth skin afterwards. The smell does not linger greatly but then I use a moisturiser anyway, like most women I'm sure, so that's not really an issue for me once I've left the bathtub (where the smell is great). This scrub does work quite well, despite its texture, and the seeds and other little bits within the scrub work well when they make contact with my skin but they do not leave me with red marks or sores on my body so I feel that The Body Shop has found the right balance.
In all I'm quite pleased with this. It was a real bargain and is going to be snapped up from Body Shop stores. This appears to have finally sold out on the website as it is no longer available there, however, a number of the other 'cranberry joy' products are currently greatly reduced and once they are all gone you probably won't see this until at least November again as it is a seasonal Body Shop item, however, if my description of this liquid/jelly body scrub has tempted you then consider visiting your local store for a bargain!
INTRO - HOW WE MET....
After having worked at the body shop for years I know their products quite well. However, also being somewhat stingy, I generally tend to avoid going in there except when there's a sale on. There's a number of advantages to this type of shopping, particularly with the Body Shop. Aside from the obvious (that being ££££), it's always nice to pop in there post Xmas and spend sometime looking round a years worth of new stuff. They also have some stunning deals, and some stuff that they only bring out during the festive months. This is how I first encountered the Cranberry Joy range - in a post Xmas super reduced gift bundle.
WHAT THE HECK IS IT?
This particular product is the Cranberry Joy body scrub. As always with the Body Shop, it comes in a generous 200ml pot, and it really very attractively packaged. To be honest, I'm spouting the value of it for a post Xmas stingy shopping trip, but it could just as easily be brought as a xmas present for someone and would make a lovely gift.
MY EXPERIENCE AND THE GOODS/BADS
I really do like this product - mainly by virtue of its cheapness (I really can't advise post xmas body shopping enough!!!), but also because it is genuinely a nice product to use. It smells lovely you really do feel wonderfully refreshed after using it. I'd recommend it for people who want a light freshness of cent - often at Xmas I find the flavours begin to get somewhat intense and cloying - this is a welcome break from that. However that said, I found that used in conjunction with the body butter, the flavours begin to get a bit overpowering...but I guess its down to personal taste.
The down sides - As many seasons Body Shop customers will know, their body scrubs are great because they vary in intensity - some are a lot more 'gritty' than others. That's great if you want something a little less intense on the skin I suppose - though for me personally, if I'm going to exfoliate using a scrub I want to feel like I've been sandblasted a couple of times and come out a shiner much more fresh faced individual! This particular scrub is one of the less intense of the range, and has a sort of runny jam-like texture. Like I said, great if that's what you want, but if your looking for an intense scrub, this isn't necessarily it.
OVERALL - IS IT WORTH IT?
A nice product - could be part of the xmas prezzie you've been after - equally could be your dream sale item. But do test it before you buy!
The Body Shop Cranberry Joy Body Scrub
In an attempt to look after myself better I decided that exfoliating more regularly should be right up there on the list. Exfoliating really makes a difference to your skin by removing any dead skin cells which will really help to make your skin feel smoother and look brighter. I have been a big fan of The Body Shop for years and this is not the first of their body scrubs that I have used so I knew that I was buying something that would work.
Personally, I really like the cranberry range that The Body Shop brought out last year and I have actually tried most of those products. It was the smell that really caught my attention it is a lovely refreshing berry smell. This doesn't particularly smell strongly of cranberry but it does have a really fragrant and sweet smelling berry scent, which I have found myself really liking.
As you would expect from a body scrub this is packed with exfoliating elements such as crushed cranberry seeds, there is also a good mixture of larger coarser bits as well as smaller more delicate pieces of exfoliating elements to really leave your skin feeling smooth. However, slightly disappointingly with this product the smell doesn't really hang around for long after you are out of the shower and dried off, but that doesn't bother me much because I use other lovely smelling moisturisers after this. Nevertheless, this really does smell very nice when using it in the shower.
When you scoop some of this up to use it does feel a bit like a liquid gel and perhaps it is a little bit too liquid. However, it does apply to the skin really well. I always make sure that the shower water isn't running anywhere near me so that I can properly give myself a good scrub over before rinsing it off. This body scrub is gently enough to be used for all over your body and I have noticed that using it regularly has left my skin feeling considerably smoother and looking in generally better condition.
Exfoliating is something that I always know I should do more often but for some reason or another I tend to not bother, however, this is so nice to use that I have really been making an effort to do this two or three times a week and I have been pleased with the results. I have also found that exfoliating more regularly has really helped with the irritated skin that I so easily get with shaving, my legs look much better and this scrub hasn't irritated even my sensitive skin.
I tend to be quite heavy handed when applying this so my tub won't last me as long as if you use this a bit more sparingly. I suspect that I could easily finish off a tub of this within a month, the tub I have is nearly finished and I have been using it for just over a month now. I bought this body scrub before Christmas and before it was in the January sales, I paid full price which was £12.50 for a 200 ml tub, if you are interested in buying this you can now pick it up for £6. However, this is a limited seasonal edition so if you do want to try it you better be quick before stocks run out and there is no more until next year. I have already bought myself another tub of this to use. At full price I think that perhaps this is a little over priced but for £6 it is a complete bargain.
I do like the tub that this comes in it looks very nice and it sets this body scrub apart from the rest of my supermarket brand shower gels. However, I do find that you have to be careful with it, on more than one I have nearly dropped this and when it is open that would be a disaster.
Personally, I wouldn't use this in the bath I did have the idea of lounging around in the bathtub scrubbing my legs with a lovely body scrub but really this wouldn't be the nicest thing to then sit in the bath water with. I also find that after I have used this I have to give the shower a quick wash down as the exfoliating bits seem to get everywhere.
This gets a well earned four out of five stars from me. I would happily recommend this product to anyone looking for something similar it really is a nice smelling body scrub that smells lovely and leaves my skin in much better condition.
