Advantages: Lovely aroma - Great packaging - Gentle on sensitive skin - Versatile product..
Disadvantages: None for me!
I really like using bath and shower products from The Body Shop, and was delighted to receive a large number of the products for Christmas. I've thoroughly enjoyed working my way through the extensive selection, with this review focusing on my experiences of using "The Body Shop Moringa Shower Gel."
My bottle of shower gel is a generous 250ml in size, and this is currently available to purchase in store in branches of The Body Shop for £4. Alternatively, you can order the product online at the store's website at www.thebodyshop.co.uk, but postage costs apply here.
The packaging is in keeping with most of the other Body Shop shower gel products that I already own, with the liquid being provided in a circular bottle made of robust, clear plastic. There is quite a simplistic look and appearance to be found in this particular product, but it is fairly attractive nevertheless. I think it is worth mentioning that even though I struggle with dispensing products at times, due to the fact I have mobility issues, I have never noticed that the plastic used in this product is particularly hard to use, nor have I had any issues with opening or closing the 'flip up' cap on top of the bottle. All in all, I think the packaging is good quality and rather easy to use, which is ideal for me.
The shower gel itself is rather opaque in its appearance, with it having a pleasant cream/magnolia type of hue to its shade. I find that the consistency of this shower gel is absolutely spot on, as it doesn't spill and dribble all over the place when I want to use it, but neither is it overly thick which would make it difficult to dispense from the bottle, of course.
The gel produces a light 'foam' when it comes into contact with hot water, and I find this feels lovely and soft, with a delicate texture on my tired skin. There is nothing aggressive or 'revitalising' about the product or its lovely aroma, but I find this allows it to feel quiet and subdued which is rather pleasant and relaxing when the product is used first thing in the day.
The aroma of the Moringa Shower Gel is one that I approached with mild trepidation, I must confess. This is mainly because the product is floral-based in its aroma, and my own preference is to use bath and shower products that are mainly fruit-based in their fragrances. I will admit here that I doubt very much that I would have purchased the Moringa product myself, purely on the basis that it is a floral-fragranced product.
The Body Shop describe the Moringa scent as containing "The delicate scent of white flowers" and to be quite honest, I doubt I could have described the beautiful aroma any better than this. The Gel's scent is most certainly delicate, although it is robust enough in its 'body' to make its appearance quite early on, almost as soon as the gel has been dispensed from the bottle. The scent feels wonderfully fragrant, but without any sickly or 'heady' feel to it that I would most certainly find off-putting. This was a pleasant surprise for me, as I do find that many floral scents can carry this unfortunate trait. Similarly, I find there is a delicate sweetness to be found deep within the floral aroma, but I have never found that this becomes sickly or 'saccharine' like in its presence, instead adding a delicate sweet edge to the floral tones already present. With a pleasant crispness in the scent coming through as the product is rinsed from the body, this allows the floral aroma to feel rather more light and contemporary than I had originally anticipated, and the delicate nature of the Moringa scent allows it to feel quite fresh, without reminding me of something old-fashioned or remotely dated.
After showering with the product, I find that there is only a mere 'wisp' of the scent lingering on the skin, and I find too that using more 'robustly' scented products will swamp the scent altogether, until it can no longer be detected. The exception to this rule, of course, is when I choose to apply the matching Moringa Body Butter from the same range at The Body Shop. Using this floral-scented butter directly after showering with its 'sister' shower gel will allow the delicate Moringa scent to become more 'developed' which results in a more robust overall scent. This scent will happily linger on the skin's surface for several hours after showering, to my delight. This result allows the shower gel product to feel as though it is 'prepping' the skin somewhat, with the Body Butter adding to its gorgeous scent, allowing it to gather more depth and become more robust. 'Layering' the products in this way and achieving such positive results is really only possible with products that are of a very high quality, in my experience, and I have no reason to question this aspect of The Body Shop's Moringa products as they have proven to perform with excellence, in this regard.
After use, my skin feels rather refreshed, but quietly so, thanks to the delicate nature of the Moringa scent. Skin is left squeaky clean and polished, without any sort of irritation or sensitivity being noticeable to my hyper-sensitive skin. Again, this is evidence to me that the Moringa products are of a rather premium quality, in addition to the fact that they obviously carry a rather mild and gentle formulation. I do recommend the product as being suitable for use by those consumers who, like me, suffer with dry or easily-agitated sensitive skin.
I will often use my shower gel products in the bathtub as well as in the shower, but I haven't exercised this habit with the Moringa gel, instead using it solely under a hot shower. I have no reason to believe that the product wouldn't cope well with being used in the bathtub, however, as I have used many alternative shower gels from The Body Shop in this way.
For the reasons outlined in this review, I do feel that The Body Shop's Moringa Shower Gel is a really lovely product, and I find the delicate floral fragrance feels rather lovely on my tired, dry skin. I would really recommend the product as being a lovely gift for somebody special, and feel it is suited to a range of different age groups due to its versatility. I have nothing negative to report when considering the product's performance and will definitely repurchase it for myself again in the future. Based on these findings, I feel that full marks are more than deserving in the product rating score.
