The Body Shop Satsuma Body Polish
Advantages: Does what it says it will
Disadvantages: None for me
At the moment I am currently working my through the various toiletries that I received for Christmas, one of these products that I am using at the moment is The Body Shop Satsuma Body Polish, I have tried different products from The Body Shop in the past but this was a new one for me so I was keen to give it a go, the other thing that I was impressed with when it came to this product was that rather than it being either a shower gel or a body scrub like a lot of products this particular body polish is both of these in one so there is no need for separate products, it is all there in one bottle ready for you to use.
The Body Shop Satsuma Body Polish comes in an orange coloured squeezy plastic bottle, there is no label, all of the information is printed directly onto the bottle. The Body Shop logo appears at the top of the bottle in white with the words "Satsuma Body Polish" written just below it again in white, there is a statement about the product just underneath this. All of this information is then repeated in a second language towards the bottom of the bottle, right at the base is a sections which is basically a close up of satsuma's. On the back of the bottle is all of the product information, this is written in white writing which stands out against the orange background of the bottle, this includes facts about the body polish, warnings and the ingredients, I was surprised to see that there were no directions for use as you get on the back of most products like this. All of the product information is repeated in several different languages. The bottle has a clear plastic flip lid which also doubles up as the base of the bottle allowing you to stand it up when not in use.
The Body Polish
The Body Shop Satsuma Body Polish looks basically like a transparent dark orange shower gel with slightly darker flecks in it, it is the same consistency as shower gel and can easily be squeezed out of the tube. The first thing I noticed about this product was the fragrance, it smelt of fresh oranges, there was no false chemical fruity smell to it that you can get with some products that promise a fruity fragrance, this smelt exactly how I thought it would, the fragrance was not overpowering and was just the right strength, aswell as being extremely fresh. This product is described as being suitable for a gentle daily exfoliation and cleansing so in other words it is a cleansing and exfoliation product all in one meaning you can save time by not having to use seperate products, one to wash yourself with and the other to exfoliate, with this product you can do it all at the same time. The Body Shop Satsuma Body Polish contains walnut shell and loofah, it is this that will gently exfoliate your skin, the other main ingredient is Community Trade Honey, although you cannot actually smell any honey in this product at all, the only thing you can smell are the satsuma's. To be honest, other than these facts there is not a huge amount about the product on the back of the packaging other than the fact that The Body Shop are against animal testing.
Directions for Use
As I have mentioned there are no directions for use for The Body Shop Satsuma Body Polish on the back of the packaging which I have to admit did surprise me a little. However when I use this product I simply squeeze a small amount of the product onto my bath puff and then rub it over my skin so that the body polish both cleanses and exfoliates my skin at the same time, I then rinse with clean water. You could apply the product using a sponge or even your fingers depending on your preferences.
There are only a couple of warnings on the back of the packaging ad these state
* Do not use this product on the face
* Avoid contact with eyes, if this occurs rinse with clean water
I have never used this product on my face as I would be worried about the skin becoming scratched, whilst the exfoliates within the body polish are not too rough and sharp they could damaged the delicate skin on your face should not you risk using it on this area.
Price and Availability
Obviously the Satsuma Body Polish is only available from The Body Shop as it is on of their own brand products, the 200ml bottle is sold for £10.00, this is a little expensive compared to some body scrub products you can buy, but in my opinion it is worth the money. Not only do you get both a cleanser and exfoliate in one product it is also long lasting, I have found that you only need a small amount to create a decent lather and to spread over the whole of your body, so whilst it is a bit expensive to buy in the first place it does work out reasonably cheap due to the length of time each bottle lasts.
Since I have been using The Body Shop Satsuma Body Polish I have been impressed with it, I was initially pleased with it due to the fact that it both cleanses and exfoliates at the same time without having to use a separate shower gel and body scrub which saves so much time being able to do everything at the same time, I also love the smell of this product, I find that The Body Shops fruity products all smell extremely fresh and good enough to eat, they smell exactly how you expect them to without any false or chemical smell to them and this product was no different. After using this product my skin feels extremely soft aswell as smelling clean and fresh, the satsuma fragrances lasts well on your skin and the exfoliating pieces within the product are just right, they are not so sharp that they scratch your skin, yet they are rough enough to feel like you are actually achieving something. The product does not make any promises to be suitable for sensitive skin, however I have had no problems with using it at all. This product is reasonably priced, it is a high quality product that does what it says it will aswell as being long lasting making it worth the money. Since trying this product I have been very pleased with it and will definlty be purchasing it again aswell as recommending it to anyone, if you currently use separate shower gels and body scrubs you should definilty give this product a go as it really works and saves messing around with separate products.
Summary: An excellent product that cleanses and exfoliates all in one
