The Body Shop Tea Tree Body Wash
Advantages: The bottle has lasted me ages as it lathers up really well.
Disadvantages: Did nothing to help my blemishes which is the whole point of this product!
I've tried a few products from The Body Shop's Tea Tree range as the range is aimed at blemish prone skin, which is my skin type. For the most part I haven't been impressed with this range at all, barely noticing any positive results, however this body wash is something which I haven't seen before and so I was tempted to give it a try. I suffer from tiny blemishes around my shoulders, chest and back and this body wash claims that with regular use it will maintain clear, blemish-free skin.
This body wash is just one product of many in the Body Shop's Tea Tree range and a 250ml bottle costs £4.50, making this not the cheapest body wash around by any means. I decided to give it a try however, because I'd never seen a body wash for blemish prone skin and so bought it in the hope it would at least make some difference to my problem.
I must admit I dislike the smell of tea tree, and I could never describe it as an 'invigorating' scent, it just smells quite disgusting to me! It states to contain lemon tea tree oil and Community Trade organic tea tree oil, however I can't smell even the hint of lemons when I use this, just that horrible tea tree smell. The Community Trade tea tree oil comes
from The Kenya Organic Farmers' Association, It is grown in the foothills of Mount Kenya and helps to strengthen and develop the local economy and create vital employment on the farms, providing opportunities for local people to stay in their community rather than seeking employment in urban areas.
The body wash comes out as a greeny/yellow thick shower gel, and I must admit this stuff really lathers up well. I only use a small amount because of this, and this does make the £4.50 price tag a bit more reasonable as a bottle of this stuff does last months. I shower everyday and have been using this as a shower gel everyday for around 2 months now, and I have a third of the bottle left, to my surprise!
Whilst I have been using this for a couple of months now, I must say I am extremely disappointed with the results in that there aren't any. I have been putting up with the tea tree smell in the hope that it will make a difference to my skin but there hasn't even been the slightest bit of difference! I have been using it all over but mainly concentrating on my shoulders and chest, and everyday I have done this, but I've now realised this is never going to start working and living up to it's claims. You see I'm still experiencing the same amount of tiny blemishes in the same places, they haven't decreased and the problem areas don't look clearer. It claims that with everyday use it will help to maintain clear, blemish-free skin, but it doesn't at all.
I do not recommend this body wash at all as it simply doesn't work. If there is a body wash out there that does help fight blemishes then please, let me know! In the mean time if you do like the smell of tea tree oil, then I suppose this isn't all that bad as you only need to use a small amount and it lathers up well, and the scent is rather strong. Otherwise if like me, you were solely purchasing this to fight off blemishes then I would steer well clear.
Summary: If you want to fight off blemishes, then give this one a miss.
