Advantages: Erm....?
Disadvantages: Bland soapy scent, doesn't exfoliate well, leaves ski feeling dry and tight
I bought this Sanctuary Salt Scrub Bar when I was looking for an interesting new body scrub to try and couldn't really find anything I fancied amongst the usual tubes and bottles. I thought this would make a nice change and also be more convenient for using in the shower. It costs £5.50 for a 200g bar.
It comes in a simple plastic wrapper which is easily opened, but do not be tempted to put the bar back on the wrapper after using it as I did because it will leave bits stuck all over it. The bar itself is orange and kind of semi-transparent and looks smooth and shiny. You can easily see the grains within the bar as little flecks dotted throughout it. It has a very bland generic 'soapy' scent.
When I first used the bar I found it felt completely smooth and I couldn't feel any of the grains in it at all so it wasn't really doing it's job of exfoliating the skin. It took a couple of uses before I started to feel the exfoliating action because the grains are all within the bar and none on the surface. However, once this first layer is rubbed away you can feel the grains and I find them a little scratchy, though not to the point that it becomes painful to use, but I don't feel they're really doing a great job of exfoliating my skin.
The bar doesn't really produce a lather, more of just a slimy layer that you can wash the skin with. It does feel ok to use but I personally prefer products that lather well as they just feel like they're cleaning more effectively. It doesn't take much rinsing because of the lack of lather.
After using the bar my skin does feel quite smooth, but not like it's really been exfoliated. It also feels really tight, like the skin on my face would after using soap instead of a proper cleanser. It feels really uncomfortable and starts to itch pretty soon after I'm dried off, so now every time I use it I have to make sure I follow it with a moisturising body wash to stop my skin feeling dry uncomfortably dry and tight.
All in all I think this scrub bar is awful and definitely not worth the money, I've used so may cheaper scrubs that do such a better job.
Summary: A horrible, overpriced bar of soap
