I am a big fan of the Treacle Moon range and I have tried many of the products in it. I purchase from Tesco and this particular shower/bath gel cost me £3 for 500ml. The gel comes in a clear, rounded plastic bottle with a black plastic flip cap at the top. There it black text printed on the front of the bottle which reads 'wakey wakey duvet princess......with a gentle yawn she stretched and captured her dream....still warm...today seemed full of endless promise'.
Through the bottle the 'gel' can be seen. This is a light green colour and has a creamy appearance rather than being gel like. This can be used as a body wash in the shower or poured under running taps in the bath as a bubble bath. I have used this for both but find it much better as a wash than a bubble bath. As a bubble bath, it produces very few bubbles and I ended up using a lot of the product to get a decent amount.
The scent is very refreshing - it is great as an early morning shower gel as it really wakes me up. It does smell of ginger but not really strongly - it is quite a subtle scent. It fills the shower nicely when in use but the smell doesn't last on my skin after showering. It lathers quite well and washes my skin nicely - leaving it feeling clean and not too dry either. The bottle lasts well too - making it good value for the £3 I paid. It is frequently available on offer too (currently £1.99 in Tesco, October 2014) making it even better value.
I think the design of the bottle - with the text on the front - makes it quite unique and quirky, It gives it quite a premium feel to it and I think it makes a good gift, Ginger is also quite a unique fragrance and one that I like very much. Overall I recommend this as a body wash but found it a little disappointing for a bath.
I had never heard of Treacle Moon when I was given this bath and shower gel and a hand wash as a Christmas present. Both came in a generous 500ml bottle and so I was hoping I liked it as it was going to last me a long time!
The large bottle did take up quite a lot of room in my shower but it has a decent sized base and so it didn't fall or get knocked over. Even when it was nearly empty it was still stable. It has a flip top cap and dispensing the product is easy to do. The plastic bottle is quite rigid and so it needed turning upside down for a while to allow me to get the last of product out.
The bottle has a lovely fairy tale introduction on the front
'Wakey wakey duvet princess...with a gentle yawn she stretched and captured her dream... still warm...today seemed full of endless promise'
I really liked this and they are lovely words to read first thing in the morning when I would much rather still be under my duvet.
When I first used this shower gel the smell was really strong and fresh, it doesn't smell of ginger despite the name but of citrus. I got used to the scent and grew to really like it.
The shower gel is thick and creamy and lathers up really easily so I found that a little went on long way on my body polisher. This is a bath and shower gel but I only ever used it in the shower, judging by the amount of bubbles I got it would have filled a bath with bubbles to soak in.
After rinsing the shower gel off my skin felt clean and I felt far more awake than when I went in. I suffered no reaction to it and this product has the benefit of not being tested on animals.
Price and availability
As I said I received this as a gift but it can be purchased from Tesco for £2.99, this is more than I would usually spend but makes a lovely gift.
Would I recommend?
Yes, I was sorry to come to the end of the bottle and although I always seem to be using up shower gels I have been given I would definitely buy this one for myself.
Whilst browsing in my local Tesco one day, I spotted the Treacle Moon range of bath products. The brand name itself was sufficient to attract my attention. 'Treacle Moon' sounds so dreamy, whimsical and sumptuous. I was quite intrigued. At £2.99 for 500mls 'One Ginger Morning Bath and Shower Gel' was well within my budget. The Treacle Moon range looks very similar to the Philosophy and N-Spa ranges of products. Whilst they don't get many marks for originality, I don't want to complain because they are affordable products with a vibrant, fun image. The product comes in a simple but stylish transparent plastic bottle with a black lid and bold, black lettering and has an inspiring quotation printed on the front of the bottle. The words on the front of 'One Ginger Morning Bath and Shower Gel' read:
"Wakey Wakey duvet princess....with a gentle
yawn she stretched and captured her dreams...
still warm...today seemed full of endless promise."
It may not be quite as poetic or mysterious as the sayings of the Wise Man on N-Spa's products, but it certainly encourages you to start your day in a positive frame of mind, which has to be a good thing. The product looks attractive enough to be given as a gift and its striking green hue would certainly make it look eye-catching and cheery on any bathroom shelf, especially if you were to collect some of the other brightly coloured products in the range. My daughters love this range of products and I think the funky colours definitely appeal to teenagers along with the quirky quotations on the packaging.
One Ginger Morning has a gorgeous scent that reminded me of ginger beer with a slice of lime in it. Unlike some ginger-scented bath products I have used in the past, which have had a quite sweet aroma reminiscent of home baked treats, the ginger in this product is zestier. Combined with the citrus, it gives the product a refreshing, zingy, summery smell, immediately making me think of bright, long, sunshiny days and al fresco living. I actually think it is quite a unisex scent and if it wasn't for the rather girly quotation on the bottle about the 'duvet princess' I would say that it is one that males and females would feel comfortable using.
The gel can be used in two ways. You can massage it straight onto damp skin whilst showering, or you can pour it under running water if you fancy soaking in the bath. I found it handy that the product could be used as either a shower gel or bubble bath because, depending on your mood or the time you have available, you may opt for one method over the other.
Using it as a Bubble Bath
This doesn't produce the thickest blanket of bubbles I've ever seen, but if you use a fairly generous squirt of it, there will be to enough to hide your modesty. What the bubbles may lack in quantity, they certainly make up for in quality. It felt like I was bathing amongst fragrant, sensuous clouds. I was pleased that the scent of the gel was still detectable amongst the foam, unlike so many bubble baths I have used which, despite smelling lovely in the bottle, don't retain their fragrance at all once in the bath. I could smell the fresh, citrus aroma when I scooped up a handful of bubbles and it was almost tempting to lick them to see if they tasted like sherbet, but of course I didn't. Whilst pleasant, the scent was a bit too subtle to be invigorating. I would say it relaxed me rather than woke me up. The bubbles felt quite moisturising as I rubbed them over my skin. As with most bubble baths, however, the bubbles were not as long lasting as I would've liked. Once I was out of the bath I couldn't really smell the product on my skin anymore, which was a shame. My skin felt clean and well hydrated, however, with no unpleasant tight feelings or irritation. I did not apply a body lotion immediately because I wanted to see how my skin fared without it. I can honestly say that my skin continued to feel smooth throughout the day with no need for extra moisturising. My verdict? I'd had an indulgent bath. I only wish it could have turned the water that fabulous lime green shade, but I guess I'm going to have to go Lush if I want special effects in my bath tub.
Using it as a Shower Gel
In my opinion, this is the best way to use the product to really appreciate the invigorating effects of the ginger/citrus combo and awaken your senses. Not only is the aroma stronger, but you also experience the creamy texture of the gel against your skin, which is very pleasant. A 50p sized blob of the gel lathered up really well using a bath scrunchie and was sufficient to wash my entire body. However, I found it felt nicer to apply the gel with my bare hands, being a bit more generous with the amount I used, sweeping it over my skin and massaging any achy muscles or cellulite-prone areas. If I had one criticism, I would say that it is a little too runny, which means it can trickle off your skin if you don't get to work quickly with your hands. It rinsed off easily with no traces of stickiness. This is a great way to wake up in the morning. Ginger is believed to ease the symptoms of nausea, so it's a good shower gel to use if you're feeling a bit queasy after the night before. It could also be of benefit for pregnant ladies suffering from morning sickness. After my shower, my skin felt soft and moisturised and the scent lingered for a few hours.
Would I recommend it?
Yes. It is great value. It looks, smells and feels more luxurious than the price suggests. However, I was a little disappointed to see that it didn't actually have any natural ginger or lime in it. (The citrus scent comes from the chemical compounds, limonene and citral. I am not sure where the ginger fragrance comes from, despite having studied the ingredients list!) It's always a bit unnerving to see a few multisyllabic ingredients on the list, which only a chemist could shed light on, because I prefer to know exactly what I'm getting when I buy a product. However, it certainly didn't have an unpleasant synthetic smell, as some products do when they contain a lot of unnatural ingredients. I enjoyed using One Ginger Morning and it is handy to have the choice of using it for a bath or shower.
I feel very happy to buy from Treacle Moon because I am impressed by the ethical values of the company. Treacle Moon works closely with a charity called Khandel Lights, which aims to improve the lives of disadvantaged families in Indian villages through sponsoring children and supporting long-term development projects to improve sanitation, healthcare, education etc. More information can be found on the website at www.treaclemoon.net. I am also pleased to report that Treacle Moon products are not tested on animals and do not contain any ingredients derived from animal sources, so they are suitable for vegetarians.
I adore Treacle Moon products. I discovered their bath/shower gels when I didn't have enough money to be buying the expensive bath products that I am used to. They did not disappoint. Not only are the gels reasonably priced at £2.95 for a 500g bottle, they are animal friendly and great quality.
One Ginger Morning was the second gel in their range that I bought. I actually bought it in the winter thinking it would be good for a nice warming soak in the bath but I was slightly disappointed with the fragrance. It was not spicy like I was expecting but a very refreshing limey smell. It does smell really nice though and I am now using it quite often as the weather gets warmer. A little goes a long way with this gel which makes it even better value. I use a few squirts if I am using it as a bubble bath and get quite a lot of fluffy bubbles and a strong fragrance, although not as strong as some bath products. Alternatively I use it directly on the skin which gives a very strong fragrance. I found that this product does neither softened or dried my the skin and it left quite a nice smell but it wasn't very lasting if used as a bubble bath. As a shower gel the smell lasted a lot longer on my skin.
Overall I really like this product. Its zingy fragrance is perfect for use in the morning to wake you up and for £2.95 it is an absolute bargain. The design of the bottles is also really nice and they look good on my bathroom shelf in all their different colours. While Treacle Moon products are not made with all natural ingredients like lush ones, they are not tested on animals and they do not dry out my skin like many synthetic bath products. The Treacle Moon range can be found in Tesco or on their website at http://www.treaclemoon.net.
I'm a big fan of Treacle Moon products as they are very reasonably priced and are a little bit different to the ususal shelfload of showel gels you are faced with in a supermarket. I like my beauty products but recently my bank account has taken a hammering and so I thought it was time to rein in the frivolities to save money.
I bought this from Tesco's reduced to £2 (along with the lomonade handwash I have also reviewed) as it looked a little bit different to all the rest.
This citrus green coloured gel has a nice thick creamy consistency. I was expecting a stong gingery smell but it was actually a very understated ginger mixed with stong zesty lime. It's really fresh and leaves you and the bathroom smelling sparklingly clean. As it's a big 500ml bottle it lasts a while using a 50p sized dollop on a shower puff and you get lots of bubbles and foam.
As with the lemonade handwash, there are no natural ingredients in this as such, however, it doesn't smell synthetic. It's a real pick-me-up in the mornings and great after the gym or a hard day at work. Great value for money product and I will definately be buying it again.
I bought the trreacle moon "ginger monments" bath and shower gel in tesco. Originally £2.85 but reduced to £2.00 for a 500ml bottle, which I feel is a good price.
The bright lime green colour and the price were what made the product stand out from the rest. The product looks quite esxpensive and modern in a sturdy plastic bottle with flip top lid. Each bottle comes with an uplifting little poem printed on the bottle, this one says " wakey wakey duvet princess...with a gentle yawn she stretched and captured her dream...still warm...today seemed full of endless promise. "
The gel itself is fairly thick, but squeezes out easily. You can run it under the tap for small fluffy bubbles which last a surprising long time, or use as a body wash as well. Two for the price of one! It has a zingy lime smell which awakens your senses in the morning.
I think the product looks great in the bathroom, alongside the others in the range, a bright and cheery start to the day! Other products include body creams, handwash and there are coconut, rasberry plus others.
Also to note this product is not tested on animals :)
I have a sneaky feeling that I might get some Lush products for Christmas, I have dropped enough hints I think. In the meantime I'm trying to be a bit more frugal in the run up to Christmas and not over-do the purchases on toiletries. However, a back ache recently has meant hot baths - and baths mean bubble bath!
I came across the Treacle Moon range in Tesco whilst doing the rest of my shop. A 500ml bottle like the one pictured costs £2.95 usually, but in my local Tesco is now discounted to £2, and as this is a shower as well as a bath gel, it seemed like quite a bargain. The range looks more expensive, with bright colours, clean design and quirky packaging it is very appealing (if you like that sort of thing!) and is clearly designed to be displayed. I guess the only small giveaway might be the mis-spelling of 'recipes' ('recipies' - a common one!) - but it might be only me who noticed that... (If Treacle Moon are reading this and would like to employ a proof-reader, my rates are very reasonable.)
The name 'Treacle Moon' derives from a poem by Bryon, in which he describes his Honeymoon, although this is not explained on the packaging. The poetic influence does go some way to explain the whimsical bottle label, which includes the verse (not by Byron, I'm fairly certain!):
Wakey Wakey duvet
princess...with a gentle yawn
she stretched and captured her
seemed full of endless
This is very sweet and gives a sense of how the gel is supposed to make you feel, but does not give any information about the main ingredients of the product - which I thought was a bit strange. There is no clear notification of the flavour of this bath/shower gel at all, unless you count the name - 'One Ginger Morning'. Although this smells quite 'natural', the ingredients list is not as transparent as, for example, Lush - it is full of names that only a chemist would be familiar with. My best guess would be citrus - it smells like lime to me, in a sherbet sort of way and has a very pleasant smell, quite sweet but not overwhelmingly so, fruity but not too childish. There could well be ginger involved, but not so much that it is the main scent, this gel does not have the warm and spicy scent that you would associate with ginger, the foremost scent is citrus.
As I mentioned, I wanted this for a bubble bath, and although the bottle does not claim to produce masses of bubbles it produced plenty and I would say that they lasted a reasonable amount of time. The gel itself is quite runny and easily ran into a bath, it is liquid rather than a gel. I'm sure it would be fine to use in a shower and I think it might work better that way rather than for the bath, as the zingy lime smell would be more concentrated.
For this price, I am very happy with this product, and will be trying more of the range, especially while they are on offer. Other products in the range include 'the Tangerine Dream', 'the Raspberry Kiss', and 'that Vanilla Moment' - shower/bath gels and body scrubs are available in each flavour, currently only available from Tesco, and at £2 each at the time of writing. Not tested on animals.
