“ Brand: Yves Rocher / & Shower Gel / Type: Shampoo & Shower Gel / Suitable for: Body & Hair „
My fiancé took me to Paris for my birthday last month and as a birthday treat he took me shopping on the Champs Elysees and told me to choose whatever I wanted (lucky girl!). As it was, I didn't want to take the mick as he'd already bought me lots of lovely gifts and anyway I couldn't find anything I wanted. That was until I spotted the Yves Rocher shop and nearly jumped up and down with excitement (I'm easily pleased!).
==About Yves Rocher==
Yves Rocher is a big brand in France, but is not particularly well known in the UK. I was familiar with the brand already because as a teenager I used to have an Yves Rocher catalogue and would buy myself toiletries and make-up from them via mail order. You can still order this way, but of course these days they also have a website www.yvesrocher.co.uk, where you can also place an order.
If I had to describe the company I guess I would say it's a little bit like France's version of The Body Shop. They use a lot of natural ingredients in their products and most are based around botanicals. They also seem to be quite strong on ethics and the environment, as although I cannot find a lot of information on the website the woman in the store was telling me about how they try to reduce the impact on the environment where possible.
==Verbena Vitality Shampoo-Shower Gel==
Most of the products I bought from Yves Rocher were travel sized as I was worried that buying lots of large bottles would tip the weight on our cases over the baggage allowance on the way home. I did however buy this product in the full size as it was in the sale and I liked the fragrance.
The product is described on the bottle as 'all over foaming gel' and can be used as either a shampoo or a shower gel. It contains Verbena Absolute and is enriched with 'softening agents' to help keep the skins ph balance neutral when used as a shower gel and leave hair soft and silky when used as a shampoo.
The product comes in a rather short lime green bottle and is perhaps not the most stylish looking of products. I think the green colouring makes it look rather cheap, but the lid is easy to flip open and the fact it tapers inwards towards the top of the bottle makes it easy to hold.
==Using as a shower gel==
Although the product is dual action, I have been primarily using it as a shower gel. The thing that attracted me to this product was the fragrance. It smells like Verbena and is very similar in scent to the L'Occitane verbena shower gel. If you're not familiar with the scent of verbena the best way I can think to describe it would be as lemon with a grassy undertone. It's a very fresh fragrance and quite zingy too, so perfect to wake you up in the mornings.
When it came to using this, I found that the gel had a fairly nice consistency to it and was not so runny it all dripped through my fingers when trying to apply it, but not so thick as to be difficult to remove from the bottle.
When you first apply this to the skin and massage it in, it seems to turn into an almost milky texture. Once you rub it in a bit though it starts to foam and creates quite a thick, white lather on the skin. It is a good lather, but I don't think you could get away with using it to shave your legs (or whatever) with as the foam's not really thick enough to do that with.
The scent really comes out when its on use and the foam rinses away quickly and easily. Not only does this leave my skin clean but it left a trace of scent on my skin too. Unlike some cleansing products this does not leave my skin feeling dried out and despite both myself and my fiancé suffering from eczema neither of us has noticed any harsh reactions from using this product. I do have to admit however that I have not noticed any particular skin benefits from using this product other than the fact my skin is left clean.
==Using as a shampoo==
When I purchased this I had only intended to use it as a shower gel. I don't normally go for 2-in-1 products and prefer to use products that have been specifically designed for the hair. As it was however, I ended up buying an absolutely terrible shampoo from Avon and as I kept forgetting to take another shampoo into the bathroom with me I ended up grabbing this and washing my hair with it on around four or five occasions.
I have long, thick hair, so usually need to use more shampoo than the average person. I did find with this product however I could get away with using a smaller amount than usual as it foams up so well I felt that all of my hair was being covered. Once I'd used this I found it easy to rinse out and followed up with a conditioner.
On the first occasion I used this, I was a bit sceptical as to how good it would be, but found myself pleasantly surprised. Firstly my hair was very clean with only one wash, which was good as I use a lot of product in my hair so it can often take two washes to get rid of all the build up. Secondly, the condition of my hair was much better than expected. I found that my hair felt soft and light and it looked healthy and bouncy with a bit of a sheen to it. I really wasn't expecting it to perform so well as a shampoo so I was incredibly pleased by these results.
==Price and Availability==
I paid around 2 euros for this in the sale, but in the UK it normally retails at £4. It is however, currently on offer at £1.95 on the Yves Rocher website. As far as I'm aware Yves Rocher don't have any stores in the UK, so you will need to order online from www.yvesrocher.co.uk. You can also sign up for a brochure where you can order via mail order.
==To Sum up...==
I really liked this product and it was much better than I had expected. The fact that it is dual action and works well as both a shampoo and shower gel makes it good value for money and it is definitely a product that I would consider using again in the future.
