“ Brand: Salter „
Not so long ago our hitherto accurate and reliable bathroom scales began giving random readings which changed as you stood on them! I tried replacing the battery to no avail so it was decided that we needed a new set. After all we are trying to lose weight and we want to know how well we're doing!
Dave did some research online and found that there was a vast array of scales which would give us weight, BMI, body fat and all manner of things but as we aren't too well off at the moment we decided to just go for a set that would tell us our weight.
The set we chose was the Salter UST Glass Scale Model 9017. These are ultra thin scales so will not take up much room and will look neat.
The best price that we could find was as www.boots.com where the original price of £29.35 had been reduced to £22.45. Incidentally the current price is now £19.56 but they are out of stock!
So I logged onto www.cashinco.co.uk and went to the Boots website and ordered the scales using my Visa card. Thus I got 88 points (88p) on my Boots Advantage card, 340 points (34p) in my Cashinco account and 22 points (15p) in my Barclaycard account. I do like to maximise my offers!
I ordered the scales on Thursday and was informed that they would be with me by the following Tuesday but in fact they arrived on the Saturday so I was very pleased.
The scales arrived in a good strong cardboard box with a picture of the product in the front. I will say now that looking at this picture and also the one on the website I thought that the scales were made of white glass but this is just the way that the pictures look and the scales are in fact made of clear glass.
Inside the box there is a set of scales, a set of four carpet feet to use of your scales are to stand on a carpeted floor and an instruction booklet. I did initially think that the instruction booklet looked a bit thick for the product - how difficult can it be to set of scales and weigh yourself? Then I realised that the information was printed in eleven different languages and each language only covered two pages!
To get started all you need to do is to take the battery cover off and remove the isolating tab from beneath the battery. Then close the battery cover of course!
You then need to choose if you want to be weighed in kilograms or stones and pounds. At 54 I am a bit old to start thinking in kilos so I settled for stones and pounds.
Then the four carpet feet were put on as the scales were to stand on the carpet in the bathroom.
The scales were then put in situ and all we needed to do to make them operational was to press the centre of the platform with the foot, remove the foot and 0:0 is displayed and you are ready to go! If you need to move the scales to a different location they will need to be rest in this way each time.
To weigh yourself you just have to step onto the scales and read the display which shows stones, pounds and tenths of pounds so it is a really accurate measure. The display remains for a couple of seconds after you get off the scales and then the scales switch off until the next use.
Our old scales had to be hit first to display the zeros before you got on to be weighed so these new ones are much nicer in that respect.
The scales themselves are square, less than the height of a 50p piece from the floor and are made of clear strengthened glass with either a black or a dark blue trim.
The fact that they are made of clear glass means that they will always match your décor as you can see the carpet straight through the scales!
The maximum weight that these scales will take is 180kg / 28st / 396lb so we should be OK then! They come complete with a lithium battery and a 15 year guarantee so they should last well then!
In conclusion I would have to say that I am very pleased with these scales. They give measurements of weight to a great degree of accuracy and we can really see our healthy eating plan beginning to work!
