I often go away and, like a lot of women, I need all the space I can get in my case so taking my wide plate straighteners was taking up quite a lot of room. I was walking around my local Tesco store one day and my eye was drawn to the bright pink and black zebra pattern on the mini Remington hair straighteners. After I got over the fact of how cute they were I realized this might be a really good way to get the extra space back in my case. When I saw that they were only £9.99 I couldn't resist them, and put them into my trolley. I decided to try them out when I got home instead of waiting until I got away and finding out they were no good. I plugged them in and switched them on. (They have quite a long wire for something so small.) My hair is quite long and fairly thick so I wasn't sure how well they would work, but they got really hot really quickly so I was starting to feel optimistic. My hair is only slightly wavy which in this case was good because if it was any curlier it would have taken me a very long time to get my hair straight. As the plates are so small you can only straighten a small amount of hair at a time. As for space saving they are great and make a huge difference. They worked well on my hair and did what they were supposed to do but I wouldn't use them every day as it would take me far too long to do my hair.
~The mini me of hair straighteners~ *************************** Having had a number of heated hair straighteners in use over the years I have come to favour some brands over others with Remington having been amongst my most favoured brands. Whilst I already had heated Remington straighteners for use when at home, I felt they were quite bulky and heavy for taking away on holidays etc, which is why I eventually decided to purchase a set of mini handbag straighteners from the same brand. The smaller more compact size of these straighteners meant that they were less bulky and weighty when compared to the larger set I was using at the time. I felt these mini straighteners were a fair choice for being packed in to a small sized carry bag perfect for taking away for a weekend and I found that in use they were exactly that. I was slightly put off at first by the bright pink and black coloured animal print design of the outside of the straighteners as they are rather distracting, although over time I did become more used to them. The smaller size of the straighteners did mean that the styling plates on these were shorter than other straighteners I have had in use as this product is no more than 15/ 16cms long. This did mean that I had to use these with extra care so as not to place too much hair between the styling plates each time when using these, so as not to catch it on the main body of these heated stylers. ~Product range/ presentation~ ************************ These little straighteners form part of range of items called the My Mini range which was clearly indicated on the product box as I recall it had a picture to one side showing a compact hair dryer which seemed to match the design of these brightly coloured straighteners. The product box that these came in was sturdy, neat and in a matching bright pink and black colour way that would suit younger straightener users in my opinion, as it had a young and vibrant feel about it. I would say that the dryer and straighteners together would make a nice first hair care set for a younger girl, if given as a gift. The over all look of these is slightly distracting in a bright and funky way, which may suit you if are a fan of bold colours and in my opinion they give off a young vibe. ~Using the product~ **************** In use I found that these straighteners could get fairly hot with them being able to be heated up to 200c. This is not as hot as I am used to with the full sized straighteners I usually tend to buy and use, so I did find that the results with these were sometimes not as good as when using full sized hotter straighteners with larger styling plates on my hair. I also found that these did take a little while longer to heat up than the full sized Remingtons I had been using at the time, although in general use these were hot and toasty in around 30 to 40 seconds which wasn't too bad in my opinion. As these are small so called handbag sized straighteners I didn't expect all that much from them when I bought them but I did think they were worth trying as if they worked well enough, they would take up far less room when packed in case or bag. The heating irons on these were ceramic coated which was a bonus and they were smooth enough so as not to rip through my hair when in use. I found that these are ok as a short term hair straightening solution, although they were in no way as good as their full sized counterparts. The thing that I feel was in the favour of these was their small compact nature, which meant they could easily be carried with being too heavy or bulky. They worked well enough to help straighten the top layer of my hair just enough so as to make it look neater and better groomed, although they aren't something that I would rely on all the time. In my opinion for anyone with really long of thick hair, it would take ages to get lots of hair super straight with these meaning they may not be a good choice. Even though the straighteners are super small they have a decent sized 1.8m long power cable that means you don't have to be sat to close to a power outlet to be able to use them, which I feel is a plus point. ~Product rating/ price~ ***************** Sadly I ended up leaving these when away on my travels, having forgotten to pick them up and pack them away in time and as yet I have not replaced them. I would possibly consider buying another set of these in future as they are perfect for touching up a fuzzy fringe or giving the top layer of your hair a quick smooth when needed, making them a quick and easy solution in those cases. It is very tempting to pop them in your handbag to take out and about for those moments when a quick hair boosting session is in order. The cost of these is £12.99 in Currys at the moment which I feel is fair value for them, I haven't seen prices any cheaper than this without postage for these pink and black mini straighteners. My rating for these is 4 stars which I feel shows that these may be super tiny when compared to other hair straighteners, yet they can be quite useful at times if used with care.
