Whilst the product I am reviewing today is not something I've used on myself, I have a considerable amount of experience in using it, particularly as I regularly cut my husband's hair. The item I am reviewing is Wahl Vogue Satin and Black Hairclippers, which I presume isn't a popular item as it was necessary for me to make a product suggestion to Dooyoo. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Wahl, they are the world's largest manufacturer of professional hair clippers since 1919.
When I first met my husband, he was paying out approximately £12 every six weeks for a stylist to use clippers on his fast growing hair; a job that took a maximum of ten minutes. Consequently, I persuaded him to purchase a set of electric clippers and whilst I cannot recall exactly how much he paid at the time, I can remember that they weren't much more than £10.
The clippers are made from a sturdy glossy plastic and contained within a strong black plastic case with two secure clips on the front, which is identical to the cases you receive when purchasing power tools. Accompanying my husband's trimmers were eight hard-wearing plastic guide combs ranging from sizes of No 1, which is a 3 mm cut to No 8, which is a 25 mm cut, scissors, comb, small bottle of oil, an instruction DVD and booklet, three clips for securing the hair whilst using the trimmers and a small brush for cleaning the blades and accessories.
The clippers are 18 cm in length and approximately 4½ cm in width and are considerably sleek in appearance. They are fairly heavy and extremely easy to use. However, I would strongly recommend you initially start with one of the higher number blades and give yourself time to practice. It's much better to leave your hair too long than to scalp yourself!
The trimmers are fitted with an upper and lower blade, which should be regularly oiled and it is recommended this be carried out every few cuts with the supplied Wahl Clipper oil. What I favour about these clippers is that I often find many electrical products have very short power leads, but I am pleased to advise that Wahl provide us with a sufficient length, so no extension cable is required.
There is a sturdy blade taper lever on the upper left hand section of the clippers, which simply alters the position of the blades. Whilst this is a function that we've never used, it can be enabled to provide you with a closer cut without the need of a guide comb. On the lower right hand side of the clippers is a power screw, which is provided in case the voltage in your home is low and can easily be adjusted if this is the case.
To use, you firstly need to comb through your hair and ensure there are no tangles or knots. Once you have selected your desired guide comb, you need to remove the black plastic protective guard from the trimmer blade and push the guide comb over the blade until you hear it click into place. You are now ready to proceed by switching on the trimmers with the easy to operate push up "on/off" switch located on the lower left hand side.
The first time I used these trimmers I thought my hand was going to drop off, as they will give you an extremely strong vibrating sensation! However, you will soon get used to it and in order to achieve a professional cut, you need to slowly push the trimmers through the hair using a slow "combing" action, taking care not to push too hard. It's best to use light strokes so that the teeth of the guide comb point upward and the guide comb is positioned flat against your head.
Whilst I do not wish to go into lengthy details, you can vary the size of the guide combs you are using, dependent on the area of hair you are cutting, eg the areas above the ears, the top of the head and the nape of the neck require more intricate cutting. As I've become quite experienced in using these clippers I no longer feel the need to use guide combs for above hubby's ears and the nape of his neck and simply use the blade on its' own. However, hubby was rather nervous when I first tried this, as he was absolutely terrified I would scalp him! (As if I would!!).
I generally use a No 2 on my husband's hair during the winter months, but as he feels the heat during the summer, I alternate to a No 1 for a shorter cut. I find it takes me approximately five minutes to efficiently cut my hubby's head; after which I cannot feel my right hand for a short while as it's still vibrating from holding the clippers!
The clippers are provided with a 2-year warranty and operate from 230v - 50Hz.
I cannot recommend these clippers highly enough as they provide an extremely professional salon finish and will save you an absolute fortune. I have probably used these clippers on over a hundred occasions and they still look and operate just as effective as the day they were purchased. As they have been regularly oiled as per the manufacturer's guidelines, I am pleased to advise that there is not one single trace of rust.
I have checked the internet for an up-to-date price and would advise that you can purchase these clippers brand new from Amazon for just £13.09 with free postage and packing. It seems that the accessories have also been updated as you are now provided with a few additional items to those in my hubby's set.
As these are such great clippers, they receive 5 out of 5 dooyoo stars from me.
I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.
