This was bought as a gift for my mother in law from Boots for Christmas. It was on a 2 for 10 deal. After rave reviews from her, and a couple of cheeky uses myself, I just had to buy this for myself!
The soap and hand cream came in a handy holder, which after the product is used up can be used for others. This little touch makes it feel like you are getting a lot for your money because they have been thoughtful about what you need.
The products are coloured but come in nice clear bottles which allow you to see how much of the product is left so you can keep an eye on when you need to buy some more! The label design looks nice and not cheap and tacky.
The pump action allows for easy use of the soap and hand cream, however when it gets to the end of the tubs you may find yourself playing around with the pump and dispenser to get the last little bit! This is a common issue with this type of dispensing action though.
The amount that is dispensed is a small amount, just enough needed. This is great because the product doesn't rush out and you have minimal wastage.
Both lotions smell really sweet and are long lasting. There are a range of scents and the Sweet Mandarin is my favourite. The smell lasts on your hands long after washing unlike other hand washes so you can enjoy the smell for a while.
The hand wash feels really soft and lovely on your skin. I have an issue with dry hands which can be irritated by over hand washing or when washing up so I always use the products together. Often I use hand wash and then a hand moisturiser which often have two opposing smells but these two washes compliment each other. The hand moisturiser feels really soft on the skin and is absorbed quickly. Again it has a really lovely soft smell that lingers.
It's nice to have the two products together as they work in tandem to make your hands feel really cared for. It makes for a really great gift set and for own personal use! It has a really luxurious hand care feel. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who is looking to get a gift for themselves or when you are not sure what to get for someone. You can never go wrong with hand care!
I had this Baylis and Harding gift set as a Christmas present from a friend at work which I thought was a lovely gift. It consists of a bottle of hand and body lotion and a bottle of cleansing hand wash and the fragrance is sweet mandarin and grapefruit. It is a classic smell and I think would be suitable for either sex or any age.
They both come in 500ml clear plastic bottles displaying the words Baylis and Harding and have a black dispensing pump on the top. They come on a clear acrylic rack which is quite sturdy and I think makes the bottles look neater than just placing them on a shelf or bath. They do look similar to Molton Brown which is probably what they are aiming for but a similar set from Molton Brown would cost you around £30 and this one costs around £6.
The hand and body lotion is a light yellow colour and is quite thick and creamy in consistency. You get a decent amount of the cream from the pump and I find that I only usually have to use one or two pumps to cover both my hands comfortably. You can smell the lovely citrusy fragrances of mandarin and grapefruit but it is quite a natural smell and is not too strong or overpowering. I can say that it soaks in quickly and leaves my skin feeling very soft and hydrated. I will sometimes use it for my legs as they tend to get quite dry especially in the winter time and it does leave them feeling moisturised and smooth and will use two or three pumps for each leg, and the same if I use it for my arms. It doesn't leave any greasy or sticky residue on my skin and I have often put clothes on immediately after using it with no issues.
The hand wash is a clear pale yellow and is dispensed with the same pump action as the lotion. This also has the same citrusy fragrance and smells fresh and clean and I find that one pump is usually sufficient to wash my hands. It lathers up easily and produces quite a lot of foam and it leaves my hands with a lovely zesty smell afterwards. Although I often use hand lotion after washing this hand wash doesn't dry my hands at all and leaves them feeling quite soft.
I do really like this stylish set and would buy it again. If you can get it for around £6 it really is a bargain price, it smells good, it feels good and it certainly looks the part, so I would recommend this to buy for yourself or it would be ideal to buy as a gift for someone. I have just looked online and you can currently get it for just £4 from Ocado which is a fabulous price and I think I might get another one at this price as it is definitely worth it.
For Christmas I received a lovely Baylis and Harding gift set with a bottle of cleansing hand wash and a bottle of hand and body lotion both in the sweet mandarin and grapefruit scent.
I had seen the gift set in the shops and had considered buying it as a gift for someone.
I really like Baylis and Harding products and was particularly impressed with their rose, ylang-ylang and patchouli range, which is also available on their website, www.baylisandharding.com.
~ About the hand wash ~
The hand wash comes in a clear plastic bottle with a gold top, with, 'Baylis & Harding' around the outside and a black plastic pump dispenser on top.
The hand wash itself is a clear, yellow colour. It is quite gel-like when I move it around the bottle and using the pump dispenser produces just a small amount, but that is all you need as it is thicker than other hand washes I have used.
The scent is very citrusy. The grapefruit dominates the scent, but is more subtle than I expected. I have used other Baylis and Harding products in the past, which have had a lot stronger, more vibrant scents.
The hand wash is quite creamy and it lathers up well.
Although the scent is not the strongest, I do find that it lingers on my hands for a good while after I have used this hand wash, which is something I am pleased about.
~ About the hand and body lotion ~
The Baylis and Harding hand and body lotion comes in the same bottle made from clear plastic with a gold top and a black pump dispenser.
The hand and body lotion itself is a pale lemon colour and it can be seen through the clear bottle.
Again, the pump dispenser releases a small amount of product, which I think is good for any hand or body lotion as there is nothing worse than applying too much and struggling to rub it in to your skin.
I feel that the scent of the hand and body lotion is stronger than the hand wash and the scent also lingers on my skin for a while after using this product.
I tend to use this as a hand cream rather than a body lotion as I have a lot of body lotions to use up already.
It leaves my skin feeling moisturised and soft. My hands really do feel silky and smooth after using this. It is surprising how different they feel. I sometimes use this after showering as well when my skin can feel dry and wrinkled from the water. It makes them feel much more hydrated.
The lotion leaves no stickiness or residue and it is easy to rub in to my skin.
I find that my hands do sometimes feel quite rough in the colder weather and this lotion will help to keep them soft and moisturised.
I like the fact that the lotion comes in a pump dispenser bottle, especially as not too much product is dispensed at once.
I think this is a good quality product.
~ Conclusion ~
As usual I have been impressed with the quality of these products from Baylis and Harding. I did expect the hand wash to have a stronger scent, but it is still nice to use and the scent does linger on my skin after using it.
The hand and body lotion is really impressive. My skin feels a lot softer after using this. It smoothes and moisturises and makes a massive difference to how my skin feels.
I would definitely recommend these products and it would make a lovely gift for someone.
After Christmas I tried to avoid the sales for a couple of days but on the 28th of December I hit the shops and in the main I was a little bit disappointed although I did pick up a few bargains. One of the shops where the reductions weren't as good as I had hoped was Debenhams although I did manage to pick up Baylis and Harding Sweet Mandarin and Grapefruit Hand Gift Set which was reduced from £6.50 to £4 which I didn't think was too bad. The items in this set sell individually on Amazon for £1.50 each and are available for free delivery if you spend over £10, as the bottles are 500ml I think this is really good value.
The set consists of two 500ml bottles, one of hand wash and the other of hand lotion; the bottles are packaged on a clear plastic display stand which has the Baylis and Harding logo in black across the front of it. Both of the bottles have the same design of clear plastic with a small mosaic design behind the black text on the front. It's very simple but looks very classy and it allows the colours of the hand wash and lotion to show through. The bottles look very expensive and high class in my opinion even if they are quite a simple design. The lids are a silver plastic which looks like chrome and is embossed with the Baylis and Harding logo, this is then topped with a black pump bottle dispenser. The main reason I bought this set was because it looked so nice and I knew it would fit in with my bathroom accessories, it definitely looks more expensive than the price I paid. The Baylis and Harding products are meant to look like Molton Brown and they do achieve this but at a fraction of the price.
The hand wash promises to leave skin feeling soft and smooth and contains vitamins a,b and c. In use I was a little bit disappointed unfortunately; the hand wash isn't as luxurious as the bottle makes it look. Firstly, while the scent is citrusy and lovely and fresh I can't detect mandarin or grapefruit which is a little disappointing. The light gold coloured transparent hand wash dispenses easily and feels just the right consistency, when washing my hands though I feel I have to use more of this soap than I usually would to get a good lather and to feel like my hands are really clean.
The scent is the same with the hand lotion, the scent is pleasant but again the citrus scent is non- distinguishable but it is still lovely and fresh. The lotion feels lovely and light and you only need to use a very small amount to get a good coating on the hands. The first couple of times I used this lotion I noticed that is took a long time to absorb into the skin and left my hands feeling greasy so I just started using a very small amount and didn't have this problem anymore. As for moisturising although I use this cream on a daily basis I wouldn't say my hands feel any softer but I do like using a hand lotion so I continue to do so.
Overall, although I like this Baylis and Harding Gift Set I don't think I would be in a rush to buy it again, especially is it wasn't on offer. Both items are pleasant and nicely scented but my hand wash seems to be going down very quickly whilst I only have to use the tiniest amount of lotion. The set looks good in my bathroom and I think if I saw this item on offer I would probably buy another just for display purposes. Other than that I wouldn't bother although I will continue to use the set I already have.
When we moved to our new house last year, we were very fortunate that the couple who owned the house before us left us quite a few bits and pieces that they didn't want or need as they were downsizing and moving quite a distance away. They left us quite a few cleaning products as well as this Baylis and Harding Sweet Mandarin and Grapefruit at the kitchen sink. I didn't use it immediately as I was using up other hand washes first. I then moved it to the main bathroom as it worked well with the decor and I thought it would look attractive when guests came.
This Baylis and Harding gift set contains both a cleansing handwash and a indulgent moisturising lotion and they sit rather prettily in a clear plastic case which makes them look like a proper set sitting at the bathroom sink. Obviously the couple that owned the house previously received this as a gift as it had hardly been used but was sitting like new.
The cleansing handwash, which is a slight orange/yellow/light gold colour contains vitamin a, b and c extract. I wouldn't say that the grapefruit (a scent I love) is overly strong and in fact it resembles a simply citrus scent that is very pleasant. Compared to other handwashes that I have in the house, this is probably the one that is the hardest to lather up as you really need to rub to build it up and use a little more that other soaps - that said, my hands feel soft and clean afterwards and the scent does linger on your hands.
The moisturising lotion is the item that I don't use as much of. Firstly, I have to be careful what products I put on my skin and hand creams would be one that could irritate. Secondly, anytime that I have used it I have found that is doesn't absorb well on my skin and takes any age to dry in which I hate. I think it is rather disappointing for such a branded product with a brand price tag and probably the reason why it hasn't went down as much as the hand wash. My mother in law however thinks it is lovely and uses it loads when she visits (probably explaining the part that has been used). She doesn't seem to mind it taking longer to absorb.
All in all, I love the look of this gift set and it does look the part sitting in my bathroom, looking very luxurious. THe citrus smell is very pleasant and I love that it lingers on the hand, I just was disappointed with the hand lotion and felt it let down the set.
Baylis and Harding offer a range of bath and body treats and various gift sets at affordable prices.
~Hand Gift Set~
Baylis and Harding offer various fragranced hand gift sets including 'Rose and Honeysuckle' and 'Black Pepper and Ginseng'. The set I will be discussing is the 'Sweet Mandarin and Grapefruit' set.
*Cleansing hand wash enriched with vitamin a, b and c - 500ml
*Indulgent moisturising hand lotion enriched with vitamin a, b and c - 500ml
*an arcylic holder for both bottles to be stored in
Both the lotion and the hand wash carry the sweet mandarin and grapefruit scent and can be bought individually or as part of a gift set. Each product has a 12month shelf life. The lotion and hand wash are presented in matching, clear and chunky bottles with the trademark Baylis and Harding black writing. The silver neck of each bottle is finished off with a pump dispenser. The holder is clear and states 'Baylis and Harding' to the front of it. The complete set is presented in a neutral coloured box.
~Price and Availability~
Baylis and Harding sets are stocked (mainly at Christmas) in stores such as Semi Chem/Savers. At the moment, this set can be purchased online :
*www.baylisandharding.com - £5.00
*Amazon - £10.00 (works out a lot cheaper buying individually)
Baylis and Harding isn't a brand I would go out of my way to buy for myself but the gift sets make ideal presents at Christmas time! The design of the Baylis and Harding range is very similar to Molten Brown but of course, a fair bit cheaper! My Mum gave me this gift set as a little 'extra' in with my birthday earlier this year and having used up my stock of hand washes, I relieved this set from its place in my wardrobe last month.
The holder itself is of a high quality and stores the bottles neatly. Due to the chunky size of the bottles, the holder is quite wide and therefore doesn't sit properly on my sink so I have it sitting on the window ledge. The pump dispensers work efficiently and do need to be pressed a few times initially to allow the liquid to shoot up the bottle. I don't apply hand lotion every time I wash my hands as sometimes it simply isn't practical. This does mean the hand wash will run out quicker than the hand lotion but they don't essentially need to be used as a set anyway.
~Washing Those Hands!~
The hand wash is a sort of champagne colour and transparent. It is a very thin liquid inside the bottle and a few squirts are required to full cleanse my hands. This hand wash is very gentle on my hands and my young son has used it too with no adverse effects. It produces a pleasant, soft lather and has a gentle, calm smell. I would have expected it to smell a lot stronger and sharp and citrussy but the scent is very subtle and doesn't linger. My hands feel clean and fairly soft after using this hand wash but it isn't very effective on dirty hands ie if you have been in the garden getting them dirty!
~Soft and Pampered Hands~
I must admit, I do favour a thick, intensive hand cream over a lotion but this one is decent enough to use whenever I want to soften my hands. The hand lotion is a creamy white colour and is very liquidy. It spreads well allowing a small amount to coat my hands and finger nails. I used too much one day and regretted it as my hands became really slippy and sticky. A tiny blob is sufficient to soften my hands for a short while but it isn't very intensive and doesn't have much effect on dry areas. It is kind to my sensitive hands. The scent is a little more evident in lotion form but isn't any spectacular at all and I wouldn't describe this lotion as being indulgent or pampering.
Overall this is a nice set and worth a few pounds but not anymore. I personally favour stronger scented hand washes/lotions which leave my hands feeling and smelling clean. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy this set - the scent is too subtle and there isn't anything special about these products compared to the likes of Carex and Original Source hand washes. The effects of each individual product are short lived. The subtle scent allows this set to be gender neutral and suitable for the whole family to use.
4 stars - thanks for reading :)
Please note you can also purchase the single bottles in Boots for under £3.00 each.
