“ Brand: GHD / Type: Hair straightener „
I recieved this set as a gift in replace of my Pure GHD stylers that I had had awhile and were terrified of them breaking due to wear and tear. The gift set was bought from the GHD website and is presented in a gorgeous box with instructions, a stylist cd, a lovely mirror, a hair dryer and of course the stylers. I gave my Pure stylers to a friend as I prepared to use my new ones. My hair is very fine, very dry and extremely wavy and frizzy, so I need to use hair straighteners on a daily basis! These straighteners are fab, they don't pull, glide easily and leave a smooth finish, but with the experience of using GHDs Pure range beforehand, the midnight edition just doesn't seem to completely add up. Even though the midnight range is indeed an excellent styler, I felt that GHDs previous model did the same things but just slightly better. I also feel that in the price of the product you are paying the extra for its display box and trinkets inside. The hair dryer you recieve with it is certainly not of salon quality and if you need hair straighteners for your hair, you are going to want a better dryer. All in all though a tad steep in price, the GHD edition is certainly a great product that does the job, I would just suggest having a look at the other products GHD has to offer as this midnight release is not the best one, I wished I had kept my previous ones or found them new online.
Aside from this, I am happy with using them. I am certainly someone that forgets to turn them off so the safety shut off feature is a major contributing factor for me! If you have hard to manage hair these stylers will do the job! Just as said previously, shop around a little first.
With my wife closing in on her 30th birthday and knowing that she needed some new straighteners I decided to go for a name that I knew from reputation to be excellent as well as the one that she has most recently been using (her straighteners have lasted about 3 years and are starting to lose their heat a little) so looked around for a nice GHD set for her when I came across this beautiful box which contains straighteners, a travel hair dryer, a small mirror, hair sectioning clips and bags/cases to put all of these things in, I decided this was a perfect gift set for her and so took the plunge which at over a hundred pound felt like a lot but with the GHD quality I felt it would be worth it and thankfully that has been the case thus far. The entire package of items comes in a GHD branded box but with even this having a gift box feel it made it perfect for me to leave laying on the bed for her to find and she was delighted with the gift.
A name which has gained a great reputation for quality products and excellent reliability so although pricier than others out there the GHD set should last you well.
A beatifully presented set which contains a lot of excellent pieces for your money.
An excellent gift for the lady in your life.
High quality hair straighteners that work very well and with ceramic plates are top drawer in their performance.
As with most (if not all) GHD's these have an auto switch off function after 30 minutes of non use to allow for piece of mind and better safety.
Well designed straighteners allowing for you to have a good grip and therefore easier straightening.
The straighteners have a rounded barrel which allows for you to not just straighten but also create waves, curls and even flicks.
The price of these straighteners is RRP £149 so they are expensive when compared to some of the other names out there but these are a luxurious gift set with added extras and from the name you can trust so for me are worth the money.
Overall I was very impressed with this product as it is simply beautiful in how it is presents, has a great deal on offer in the treasure chest style box to please the lady in your life. I have also heard my wife saying how great the straighteners themselves are which can only be a good thing and if she's happy then I'm happy.
I got this set as present from my fiance, you can see why i'm marrying him! Amazing present, i absolutely love GHD's and i don't know anyone who doesn't. The straightners are the best with no pulling, ripping etc but heat quickly and strongly so one slide through your hair and its perfectly straight. On the other hand i love to curl my hair with mine, i taught myself and if you haven't tried it give it a go! They are so easy to use and the end effect is fab. The rest of the kit i use all of the time, the mirror is so handy with a stand to use in front of you. The mini hair dryer is good but not great, as with all travel hair dryers. I know most hotels provide them but being a frequent traveller if you get to a hotel that doesn't or it has a hand dryer like device its a distaster!! This dryer tucks away nicely in my suitcase and is a welcome relief should those situations arise. I also use the clips a lot, more for curling as the straightners will go straight through all my hair. They whole pack and the cases are great, best present ever!!
GHD (Good Hair Days) is possibly the best known hair styler brand and certainly the first I thought of when my old (Remington) straighteners broke, they are however possibly the most expensive straightener brand as well. This particular model costs £150 if bought from their website, I purchased mine from ebay for £100 but this was without the hairdryer so I cannot comment on that. It also comes with a baroque style gold mirror and two styling clips.
The straighteners come in a black and gold GHD box which is a little too nice to go under the bed with the box for the tv, you open the gold box to find a treasure chest with a matt and shiny damask pattern and a jeweled clasp. Inside there are two layers, the top section is great for storing hair brushes and anything else hair related really... I keep my extensions in there. Then the bottom section hs a space in the side for the mirror and the main section is where you keep the styler itself which comes in a heat resistant black bag with a gold zip and a similar pattern to the chest but rinted on. It also has gold details stitched on and a GHD logo in the middle. This can be unzipped to form a heat resistant mat to protect surfaces when the styler is turned on. One of the zip pulls is shaped like a shoe which I think is Cinderellas missing one as the advertising campaign which went with these stylers was about fairytales.
The styler itself is the GHD Gold IV styler, it is sleek and black with a pattern of indented shiny dots which spell out GHD. The plates are gold, there is a switch on the inside of the arm to turn them on, this lights up when on and makes a bleepy noise so you know you have switched them on. They heat up very quickly and make a second bleepy sound when at maximum heat. There is a third bleepy noise which happens if you leave the straighteners on too long.
I have very thick hair and these quickly make it sleek and straight, you can also use them to do curls and waves. I usually only do straight but I have experimented with curls and it works far better than I expected. I can testify that these get very hot as I accidentally put my thumb on a plate but it isn't burnt it was just painful - I think this means that they get hot enough to style your hair without frying it like some straighteners can. I have experienced less damage than with my old straighteners and these always leave my hair looking really shiny and healthy, it also lasts until I wash it without going frizzy halfway through the day.
These are the best straighteners I have ever had.
Unfortunately I am not the kind of woman who can leave my hair to dry naturally and it still look like I've just walked out of a salon! My hair type is long, thick and wavy. But not the good kind, no it's more like that of a spaniel that has been swimming in a lake! Or if you can recall Worzel Gummage? Something like that. So hair straightners are a necessity in my household if I want to wear my hair down.
Since my early teens when vanity started to become an issue, I've always had a pair. But as with technology these days, they quickly became out of date in the light of all new models with thicker plates, ceramic plates, super hot temperatures etc, etc! But I got by with buying average stylers that were purely for straightening hair. None of them did a very good job, but it was an awful lot better than the "natural look". About three years ago I bought a pair of Remington straightners that cost around £80.00. I opted for the wider plate version as these are aimed at people with particularly thick hair. I thought these were fantastic and left my hair looking sleek and shiny, even if it did take the best part of an hour to straighten my hair!! GHD's were on the market at this point but I truly believed them to be overpriced!! This year, the flex on my straightners started to come apart so was looking for a replacements pair. I was tempted with GHD as my housemate has a pair that I had used a couple of times. They were much quicker and easier to use than my current ones, but was still put off by the price.
However, for my birthday in January, my other half had bought me a pair of the new GHD gold classic stylers. I was so happy with them! Everything about them was so much nicer than any others on the market. The package they came in was a very sturdy, shiny black and gold box with their lettering on top. Lifting the top off the box revealed a long, round carry bag which contained the stylers. The bag itself is a blue / black colour, again with their lettering on the front. A small clasp undoes allowing the top of the bag to be unfolded. This clever little feature doubles up as a heatproof mat. This is a definite necessity as we all know someone who has left straightners on something they shouldn't have! I hold my hands up to that myself!
Unzip the bag to reveal your stylers, safely tucked away inside. It's the perfect size to fit the stylers in without getting all the cabling tangled. There also two hair clips inside to keep your hair out the way when styling.
The stylers themselves are black in colour with gold accents and gold coloured ceramic plates. I have the narrower plates, rather than the wider as every hair dresser said these would work equally well for people with thick hair. The on off switch is between the plates, just slide it on to hear a beep. It will beep again when it reaches optimum temperature, less than 20 seconds!! They are lighter than any pair I have had before, which is great because I often got arm ache!! The ends are rounded so no more annoying hair snags either! The plates themselves have a high gloss finish which is said to give a professional shine to the hair, and it certainly does that! They also feel cooler than previous models. The plates stay hot but that temperature doesn't spread through to the handles. The stylers have a sleep mode. They will automatically turn off after 30 minutes which is a handy safety feature. Although I wouldn't rely on this. Which me brings me back to an earlier point I made about it taking almost an hour to straighten my hair. It now takes me 12 minutes! And I get a far better result than I have ever had before!! So now there's no mad rush to getting ready!! I have also found that my hair remains as sleek and smooth all night long, unlike other straightners it appears to wear off as the day goes on!
Each pair comes with a unique reference so you can register your stylers to you on the GHD website. The website itself is fantastic also, giving you video demonstrations of various styles you can create with your GHDs. Not just for straightening hair anymore!! www.ghdhair.com
I would never have thought about these before. The cost, 119 - 139 depending on accessories, is certainly steep. But I have cut the time of taking care of my hair down by 45 minutes! And they come with a two year guarantee so I feel quite safe that they won't pack up any time soon. The finished result is what I get when I leave my hairdresser! I professional finish I can obtain at home. I honestly don't think anything else on the market will give you the same result.
**I received this gift set as a present for Christmas 2010, it was purchased from the official UK GHD website so definitely a 100% genuine.**
To begin with a few some positives, the hair straighteners were presented beautifully in a stylish gift box and looked very luxurious and snazzy. They were also light and easy to hold with a good length power cable (handy if you have a hard to reach plug socket) and came with a convenient carry case that doubled up as a heat proof mat and a couple of hair clips, all good quality.
However, the sole and main purpose of hair straighteners is to straighten hair and quite simply put... they didn't. Now you may imagine I have a full head of mad ginger ringlets or out of control frizz but no, just your bog standard English girl hair and the GHD's could not straighten it to a decent standard, never mind the professional hairdressers "can't be beaten" finish, I've heard girls rave about.
So what was the problem? In my personal opinion the hair straighteners were not hot enough but as there's no heat control it's hard to tell, they did beep to say they had heated up properly. They were packed back up and promptly returned for a full refund, which was promptly paid back into my boyfriend's account. It seems GHD do stick by their no quibble guarantee. Hurray for some good customer service, although I wish it had been under better circumstances.
To conclude, these were my first pair of GHD's and I am bitterly disappointed, without meaning to sound like a spoilt princess it did ruin my Christmas morning slightly as I had such high expectations. I don't know if they were faulty or really just not that good but for £130, they are expensive and I expected a LOT better. I'll stick to my £20 Babyliss ones from now on.
This beautiful, Disney-esque set was released for Christmas 2010, and I was lucky enough to be given one as a present.
This is the first ghd set I've actually owned, but I already knew of the wonders of ghd straighteners as opposed to other brands after using my friend's one. They heat up much more quickly and, most importantly, the effect lasts the whole day, so there's none of the usual going out in the rain, getting frizzy hair, using the straighteners and then watching it gradually come unstuck and your hair turning back into a giant puffball during the day.
Aside from the ease and efficiency of use, however, there's also the presentation of the whole thing. I had actually requested a set of pink straighteners, but was more than happy when I received this one instead. They come in a big black and gold box, and when you open it there's another box inside that contains a travel hairdryer, 2 hair grips for styling, a nice, gilt-framed mirror that's a decent travel size, though bigger than a pocket mirror, and the straighteners themselves, in a handy, zip-up bag of their own, which you can unfold into a heat-resistant mat.
The straighteners are very light-weight, and although I worry slightly that this might make them quite flimsy, it does make them ideal for travelling with. Only time will tell whether they can withstand regular usage, but I suspect they'll be pretty durable.
I'm sure I shouldn't be looking up the price of a Christmas present given to me by my boyfriend, but I have anyway! The deluxe gift set will set you back £128 on amazon, which is a lot of money, but not much more than it would cost for only the straighteners, which makes the set relatively good value for money, I'd say.
GHD (good hair day) is renound as being the best hair stylers around. I say styler and not straightener as they not only straight, but there curled barrel allows you to curl, flick and twist your hair into many styles. This set was released for Christmas 2010 and will only be around until stocks sell out, which like all GHD sets, surely will sell out quickly. The set has an rrp of £149 however the cheapest i found it was with 20% off and free delivery from asos.com coming in at £119. Considering the styler alone retails at £99, paying the £20 extra is really worth it for what you get in this kit.
The kit has a black and gold theme runnign throughtout, with mnay items boasting a matching circular design. The gift comes in a beautiful decedent treasure chest with a golden GHD clasp. As with all GHD products it is sturdy and well made. It reveals all the items inside a further case (styler, hair grips and also dryer underneath flap and heat resistant mat in lid). GHD have put the effort into every detail including the little gold shoe zipper.
Obviously the main item is the mark 4 (latest model) styler but unlike the usual flat matt black colour, it has a more glamourous design with black dots making a pattern over the styler. It looks different to the normal styler and gives the impressions that more effort has been put into this gift set. The styler is the standard size which may be an issue if you use the slim/mens styler or the wide plate. If you have been using an older model styler you will notice how lightweight the new design is. I find it much easier to use. If you are used to the plain black model it looks nicer, but i would of prefered a more barrock fancy design on it simialr to the chest but thats just me being picky. For anyone who has never used GHD's they beep when they are turned on and again aprox 6 seconds later when they have reached their maximum heat, be warned this is very very hot so be careful and use the heat resistant mat when not using the styler. A good new feature is that the device turns itself off after 30 minutes, however as the mains is still turned on i would not use this feature daily for safety reasons!
This set also contains a travel hairdryer with a similar pattern on the side and the ghd logo. This is very handy and would fit perfectly in a weekend bag. Shame the straighteners don't come in a travel size too as I
am always frightened of getting my luggage lost and losing them!
Inside the chest is a gorgeous travel mirror which too seems well made and not too flimsy. It has a gold barrock style pattern and looks luxurious. It may be a little bit too big and perhaps heavy for your average going out bag but it fits nicely in my oversized day bag an likewise weekend bag.
The hair grips are like most other except they have the GHD logo. nice touch but nothing amazing.
Overall, if you get a good deal like I did, its worth treating yourself to get the extras as it does feel that little bit more special.
GHD is a hugely popular brand in the world of hair styling and their hair styler's are often much sought after by women (and men!) alike, and with Christmas fast approaching there's a good chance many people will have GHD's on their lists. GHD seem to bring out a limited edition set quite often, and especially so at Christmas. Two years ago I was lucky to receive the Purple Limited Edition set which was gorgeous and my trusty GHD styler was still working perfectly, however when I had the chance to receive a new set through the Amazon Vine programme, well, I could hardly say no could I?
This GHD Christmas 2010 limited edition set has a black and gold theme to it, oozing glamour and elegance. It comes packaged in a beautiful treasure chest type case, the front featuring a gold jewelled piece with GHD written in gold. The case itself is solid and is made from a good quality material. Opening the chest reveals another case, with the same theme, except this one is a soft case with 2 gold zips, and one of the zips is a little gold shoe. The case is spacious, and the GHD styler itself fits snugly inside along with two hair clips. When you unzip the case and open it fully, the top side of it unrolls and is a heat resistant mat to rest the styler once whilst you are styling your hair.
Tucked away down the side of the chest is the travel mirror. I didn't expect this to mount up to much however I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this little mirror is! It has a gold fancy, and quite heavy, metal design around it and has a stand just like a picture frame. It is wonderfully made however a downside is it isn't a travel mirror you could keep in your handbag as it is too heavy and oddly shaped for that, but it would go fine in a suitcase. Looking further into the large case, you will see there is a panel which lifts up. Underneath this panel is the travel hair-dryer, all in black with a small gold patterned design on the front it's nothing special but again the quality of it is brilliant and it's not just a flimsy thing thrown in as an after thought.
Enough with the stylish packaging though, and onto the main thing itself, the GHD styler. This styler is obviously the newest model and I can instantly notice the difference from my older GHD styler. For a start it's now extremely lightweight, although at first I was a bit worried about this. The new lightweight feel might make things easier, but I was used to something a bit heavy and the lightness of it now conveys a more cheaper image, and didn't come across as brilliant quality to me straight off. Despite being part of a limited edition set it doesn't look too much different from the normal styler anyway. It is black and gold but I would have expected a more fanciful design for a limited edition, and whilst it goes with the more sophisticated theme the whole set portrays, I do feel it looks quite boring. Maybe I was simply spoilt by my pretty purple patterned GHD styler I had been using for the past 2 years.
The styler bleeps when you switch it on, and will also bleep again when it's reached the correct temperature, and it really takes no time at all for this styler to heat up. It also has a safety shut off feature so if it's left on for 30 minutes it will shut itself off, however as it's still technically switched on, not just on the styler but also at the mains, I wouldn't rely on this too heavily, but it's a brilliant feature for anyone who ever forgets to switch off their hair straighteners. I never used to be a GHD fan finding them too overpriced, that was until I actually used a friend's styler a few years ago, and ever since I am a dedicated GHD fan. I was still extremely pleased at how easy it is to straighten and style my hair using this, it takes no time at all and my hair stays straight all day. It also doesn't snag my hair whilst styling and glides through hair easily. It's still taking me a while to get used to the fact it is now much more light weight than the old models. It may seem straight but after 2 years I am finding it hard to get used to this and sometimes feel like the styler isn't touching my hair, when it actually is!
This set will make a beautiful gift for someone at Christmas, and I should point out there are two versions to choose from, one containing the hair dryer and the other comes without. The set without the hair dryer doesn't come with the gorgeous chest but the rest of the contents are essentially the same. This set including the hair dryer costs £134.95 on Amazon at the moment, the set without the hair dryer costing £129 so price wise there isn't a huge difference between the two sets. If you love GHD's then I highly recommend this beautiful limited edition gift set.
