I was never a fan of celebrity perfumes I never even bothered to try them while looking for a perfume just thinking I wouldn't like them anyway. It wasn't really until I received some for my birthday and Christmas I decided I should just give them a try; as the ones I had I really liked.
Kylie Minogue Pink Sparkle Gift Set:
'Capturing Kylie's irresistible exuberance and positive energy'
While I was browsing the sales in Boots just after Christmas they were selling off some of their fragrances, one gift set I picked up was the 'Pink Sparkle' by Kylie Minogue. There wasn't a tester out at the time but for only £10.00 I took a chance to give it a go.
Top notes - Red grapefruit, white peach, lily of the valley
Middle notes - Champagne, gardenia, Arabic jasmine
Base notes - Bourbon vetiver, Bourbon vanilla, musk.
My first impressions were that it was a lovely day time scent, light with a little sensual kick. A nice light yet noticeable fragrance a little mature and sophisticated maybe more for late twenties and up.
I did used to be terrible when coming to a celebrity endorsed product, thinking as if they haven't got enough money they want more by selling out loads of items. Maybe a little snobbish of me? But I now think may as well give them a try because I'm sure liking what I'm smelling (with some anyways!)
What is nice about Pink Sparkle is that it's very feminine and during the course of the day you seem to have hints of the different notes. First off it starts out being a little sweet where for me I can smell more of the grapefruit and lily which seems to have a lovely balance together. Then you float onto the Jasmine and musk, this perfume is inspired by pink champagne but on my skin I can't smell any trace of the champagne. Kind of a good thing really as I hate the stuff it seems the more expensive it is the worse it tastes.
So far I have found this Eau De Toilette spray to last on my skin for around five hours or so and for a none expensive scent that isn't bad at all.
The moisturising lotion within the set is also rather nice, but it doesn't moisturise your skin as good as others I have tried so far. When you first apply to skin the cream is white and of medium consistency and smoothes over your skin. The scent at first is extremely fruity and sweet not like the first impressions of the perfume, but once it has been on your skin for around fifteen minutes it then smells just like its matching fragrance.
As far as the moisturising goes it does just an 'ok' job, it absorbs in well and at first my skin feels wonderfully smooth, soft and moisturised but after an hour or so though your skin is still smelling nice but the smooth moisturised feeling fades fast. So minus a star for that.
The set itself looks very girly and delicate; the clear glassed slightly vintage looking bottle with embossed writing 'Pink sparkle' and the tinted pink liquid, topped off with a golden top looking rather elegant. The same theme follows onto the moisturising lotion but the tube is coloured in more of a dirty soft pink.
I do wonder why they went with the name 'Pink Sparkle' as you kind of think 12 year old girl's birthday party, but yet the sent doesn't live up to the name at all. No way would a younger child like this; I'm guessing there reaction would be "that smells like old lady". Thinking more being as this is inspired by pink champagne I see where it gets it name from but still it doesn't stop me thinking of girly, glitter and over the top pink explosion. Not a mature name really.
Price and Availability:
For the gift set I paid just £10.00 from Boots but the normal retail price is around the £23.00 mark which is still good value for a set. It contains - Eau De Toilette Spray 30ml and Moisturising Body Lotion 150ml.
30ml from £11.99
50ml from £17.99
You can purchase this set from most fragrance outlets but I have noticed it seems to be cheaper online if you have a look around.
I really like this as a day time spray; it lasts well and smells gorgeous throughout the day whilst you have hints of the different notes within the fragrance. You don't need much of this perfume for you to become wonderfully aromatised so a bottle will last you a very long time.
The bottle looks very sweet and sits well within my now ever-growing collection, plus the matching lotion works well in making your scent last longer. For people mid-twenties and up I would recommend you give this a try, you never know you maybe just like it!
As far as the other Kylie fragrances go I'm not sure as I haven't tried any of the others but after this one I would sure like to try them. It's very good value for the money and when searching online you will certainly find this cheaper, and cheaper still if you just want the perfume.
Four out of five stars from me.
Thanks for reading :o)
Pink Sparkles was released July 2010 making this Kylie's sixth fragrance her others which I plan on trying are:
Darling - 2006
Sweet Darling - 2007
Showtime - 2008
Sexy Darling - 2008
Couture - 2009
There will also be another perfume release this year called 'Pink Sparkle Pop' (sounds like a child's party album rather than a perfume) so her fragrance line sure is keeping busy. All of which Kylie has collaborated with brand Coty.
Other fragrance of Kylie is a male aftershave called 'Inverse' so I guess that would be interesting for the men out there.
