It's shimmer time or should I say summer time really and that means lots of flesh on show. That's ok if you have nice tanned glowing pins and bits but mine are a little white to say the least and so need a bit of help in the shimmer and tan department. I think we all look better with a bit of a glow and in order to add a bit of shimmer and sparkle to my look I like to use shimmer powder. I have a number of different types, from shimmer balls to shimmer bricks and I find the best way to apply them is with this handy brush. Boots say their number 17 shimmer brush is, "The tool you need to get bronzed! The SEVENTEEN Shimmer Brush works with all your SEVENTEEN powders to give you the glow you want. Its summer because we say so!" This brush is like those old fashioned ones you see in barber shops that they use to apply shaving foam to men's faces. It got a really short little handle, really there's no handle at all, just a flat portion that the bristles are attached to but it's very easy to grab this in your hand and sweep it over your bronzing powder. I think you actually get a better grip on it than you would a brush with a bit longer of a handle. The bristles are soft enough that they don't scratch or annoy your face but tough enough that you get a ncie even coverage of powder on your face and the brush works over the face well. What I like is that when you come to swirl the shimmer brush across the product the bristles will fan out a little bit allowing you to get a lot of the shimmer on the brush at one time and then when you apply it to your face it gives you a nice even, all over look instead of jsut a streak of shimmer like you would with a smaller brush. For £3.29 this brush is defintiely very well priced and well worth getting in my opinion. It's fairly large and the surface area is nice but because it has the short handle it's very easy to fit in your make up bag as it does not take up too much space. I've never had a problem with the bristles falling out and I would say this brush definitely performs as well as some more expensive brushes you can buy so in my opinion a good make up tool for summer.
~Glowing and shimmering with No17~ ***************************** Amongst the No17 make up related products I have bought and used is a well priced shimmer brush. I have used my brush to apply bronzing or shimmer powder to my face in order to add a nice summery/ soft sheen like glow to my skin and found that it works rather well with bronzing pearls or powder. I have also used the brush to apply a little shimmer or highlighter powder across the brow bones and beside the outer edges of the eye area, as well as very lightly across the top of the cheeks, with a quick brush over the chin to give a lovely soft sheen look that makes my skin look a little more dewy and refreshed looking. ~Shimmer and shake~ ***************** I find that the short brush handle is very durable and fits well, although I do slightly prefer the ultra smooth metal handle of my No7 kabuki brush, as I find it even easier to grip. My No17 brush has a gold metal handle with a plastic trim at the base, that sticks out a little further. I often find that this part of the handle sticks out a little too much for my liking, making it just a little awkward for me to hold the brush firmly. I have sometimes dropped the brush when it has been loaded with bronzer due to this, which has been a little messy. The bristles fitted to the brush feel relatively soft and smooth in my experience, although I find that they can sometimes come out when I am applying my bronzer or shimmer powder. I find this a little annoying, although it is quick and easy to remove any unwanted brush hairs if they go astray in this way. In use I simply swirl the brush over bronzing powder/ pearls or shimmer powder, give it a light tap to remove any excess powder and then softly/ lightly apply the powder to my skin. When applying bronzer or shimmer powder I find it best to use the brush a number of times, reloading it with fresh powder, to give a light and natural effect when on the skin. I prefer to take a little more time doing so, rather than using just one heavier coating of powder, which can look too darkly coloured if using bronzer or too stark/ white when using shimmer powder. Generally once I have applied either product over a foundation base, the resulting effect remains in place for a number of hours without the need to top it up. ~Price/ product rating~ ***************** I paid £3.29 for my brush which I feel is good value for money. In use the bristles feel soft/ smooth and glide over the skin with ease. I don't over load the brush with powder as this gives the best results. I feel the brush is durable, although it can sometimes lose bristles. My rating for the No17 shimmer brush is 3 stars.
When it comes to face brushes they are something I tend to collect really. I am very much of the opinion that alot of the time its the application of cosmetics that counts rather than the quality of one and as a qualified Beauty Therapist I take care of my tools of the trade and value them very highly indeed. This is a brush that I didn't buy but got free a few months ago with a couple of purchases of Boots 17 Make Up however to buy this it costs about £3.29. This is a stubby brush and rather nice to look at. Originally designed to use with shimmer pots from Boots 17 range, you can use this any where on the face you want to and I use it to apply pressed/loose powder with, bronzers and blushers and so on. To look at this is a nice and neat little brush. With a brown, sturdy plastic base and the natural long bristles which are thick, smooth and soft integrated into the said base with a nice thick gold coloured rim this is a really good quality brush to the feel of it. I don't know what the bristles are made from, we are not told but they are a browny, reddish colour and like I said nice and smooth and I'm pretty sure they are natural though that's guesswork on my part of course. Powders cling really well to this, bristles never feel scratchy and poke out in any way that they shouldn't and its easy to maneuver around due to its size. My one and only complaint about this product is that it doesn't come in any kind of pouch to keep it clean and safe however you can pop it in one yourself of course as I have done. Keeping it clean it simple too. I wash mine out in baby shampoo once a week and allow it to dry naturally however it does takes a while to dry naturally due to the thickness of the bristles so I leave mine to dry for a good 24 hours. All in all I like this well enough. It is good quality and of a handy size for some jobs! Only available from Boots stores.
One product that I have owned for many years now and which I use almost daily is the 17 shimmer brush. 17 is the less expensive Boots brand and whilst I don't really use their make up products very often the shimmer brush is one of my most used items in my make up case and this is my review of the product. In all honesty I can't even remember when I bought this shimmer brush because I can always remember using it, certainly in the past few years when I started wearing make up most days again. Having looked on the Boots website for a current price of this product I can advise that it costs just £2.19 and whilst I probably paid a little more than that for the product when I bought it I still think it was a total bargain. The brush is basically a large brush which I would describe as a powder brush really. It has a rounded base in which it can sit which has the 17 logo on in a golden coloured lettering but this is pretty much non existent on my brush now! It has a shiny golden coloured metal which holds all of the bristles in place and then lots of brown coloured bristles which span out a little like a fan does. I use this brush every day to apply my powder on to the top of my liquid foundation and I find that the brush glides easily over the powder and holds on to plenty of powder. I usually give it a little blow just before brushing the powder on my face just to disperse any really loose bits of powder but it doesn't seem to hold too much powder anyway. The bristles on this brush are lovely and soft and so it isn't an issue using it all over my face. I also like to use the brush to stroke downwards on my face after applying my powder to create an even finish as this was something the make up artist for my wedding told me to do. I have also used this brush when I want to apply bronzer to my face as it covers a large area quite quickly. I wouldn't use this one to apply blusher as I think it would be too much but for bronzing pearls on key parts of your face I think this is a great brush. I have had no issues with any of the bristles coming loose on this brush and for me the fact that it costs just a couple of pounds makes it one of my best ever make up related purchases. It is the perfect brush to apply powder with and I would certainly recommend it. Thank you for reading my review!
17 is known as a lower-to-mid range cosmetic line at Boots. This brush however is of a much higher class. I have used this brush for around three months and it shows little sign of deterioration. As you'd expect, a couple of bristles have fallen out over time, but the product is not affected because of this. With a solid base for you to grip, this brush is easy to use and easy to hold. The bristles are long and soft and can be used both to bronze the skin as a whole, and to also contour (under cheekbones for example) if you hold the brustles taught near the base. I found that this brush was also great for applying blusher by simply lightly dabbing the brush in blusher and then upon the apples of my cheeks. I cleaned my 17 brush with mild soapy water after a month or so and found it a very simple job which worked a treat. (This was not due to it looking grubby but instead due to my very sensitive skin.) Compared to luxury brands and more specialised make up tools this brush is fairly weak. However, for everyday, multi-purpose use by non-experts this brush exceeds expectations. Overall this brush is a great little item and I'd definitely recommend it especially at such a low price!
I always like to touch up my make up when I'm on the train, mainly from rushing in the mornings and not being able to complete it properly! However I find that bringing a powder, blush, bronzer and other types of brushes with me takes up far too much room! I was on the hunt for a small Kabuki style brush that would still have the great softness and quality as its longer cousins! I also didn't want to spend too much as it would just live in my handbag for when I am on the go. I decided to have a nose around Boots and came across the 17 Shimmer Brush - it was the perfect match! To look at it appears to be a regular Kabuki brush with a creamy beige small handle that has a gorgeous glossy finish to it. At the bottom of the handle is a mahogany brown round circular piece which enables the brush to stand up by itself - great for storage! The bristles are mostly brown but taper off into a darker brown almost black like an ombre effect! They take up most of the brush in proportion to the handle and are roughly two and a half inches high from the base. As well as being tall they are also very broad and curve out from the sides to the top forming a rounded top. I love the look of the brush as it is the perfect size to keep in your bag but it isn't too small to not do its job properly, I love how simple and straightforward the design is and how it's all about the bristles! This brush is supposed to be used to apply bronzer and shimmer, however I find this works so much better as an all over face brush to apply setting powder or to blend your make up in as a finishing touch. I tried to apply my bronzer by using this brush but I found the bristles were too big and too fluffy to get a defined look, but as a powder brush it works perfectly as it does not pick up too much product and disperses it lightly and naturally! To use, I simply swirl it over my pressed powder and then in fast circular motions sweep it on my face, I love how soft the bristles are, as some brushes are very scratchy and make application irritating and hard. I also used this with a loose powder and found that it is the best way to apply it as it doesn't concentrate the powder into one point, meaning once on your skin it is even and there are no pesky dry patches! Although it doesn't work very well for bronzer in my opinion, I find it creates a gorgeous glowing complexion if you use it to apply blusher - rather than being a defined look it makes it look as though you have a natural radiant flushed look as it sweeps the colour all over your cheeks in one light sweep. Perfect! Not only is this a great brush that is compact enough to fit into your handbag, make up bag or even pocket, made with the softest bristles arranged in a dome shape to aid easy application that gives a natural and flawless effect, but it is also very, very cheap at a mere £3.29 - that's the price of a sandwich! I will admit I bought it because of the price but wasn't expecting much from it, after one use my opinion was changed forever and it hasn't just become my handbag brush - its my go to brush! It is also very easy to clean, by simply using a shampoo or a brush cleaner and massaging them in to the bristles. Rinse off with warm water and leave to dry overnight. One little tip I would give is make sure you pull the hairs back into shape as if you leave them splayed they will stay that way and over time it will ruin the brushes shape meaning it wont have the same effect on your skin. You can purchase the 17 Shimmer Brush at Boots or Boots.com, as well as any online make up stores and even eBay and Amazon!
17 Shimmer Brush - £3.29 or 329 points The 17 shimmer brush has long bristles (may be an inch and a half to two inches), which are held onto the bronze coloured handle by a wide gold band. The base of the handle has 17 printed on it in gold. I personally use the 17 shimmer brush for the application of face powder. I find the brush to be the perfect size to have in a small make up bag in my hand bag, and I feel the bristles are nice and soft. They have never been scratchy or too stiff. The brush has lasted well, I think I have had my second one for about two years (I lost the first). I regularly wash it as with all make up brushes in water proof eye make up remover. The design is perfect for use with bronzing pearls as it is designed specifically to fit into the slightly narrower pots that they come in. I have to keep my bronzer brush separate from the one I use daily or I may end up the 'tangoed' look for work. I find for both bronzer and face powder the brush applies the product evenly, and effectively. I would recommend this to a friend as it does the job well, and it is inexpensive.
~~~~~~~~ A big brush ~~~~~~~~ I like applying bronzing powder to my cheeks, and to do this a large brush is an essential! I had a Body Shop one for quite a while, but when this bit the dust I decided to try out this offering from 17. The 17 range of cosmetics is available exclusively in Boots, and is a brand I really like for fun and affordable makeup. This brush retails at £3.29, with which you will also receive 12 Boots Advantage Card points. ~~~~~~~~~ Short handle ~~~~~~~~~ This is different to other blusher brushes that I have used in that it doesn't have a long handle. Instead, the handle is short and squat, and you can actually sit the brush on its base. I really like this as it means you can pop it anywhere on your dressing table or, as I do, have it sitting in a drawer where it is easily accessible and takes up little space. The very base of the brush says '17' in large letters. The short brush handle is gold in colour and is easy to grip - however I think this may be the one downside with this brush as for some people it may be a bit too short and stubby to handle with ease! Luckily I don't have this problem and I find it easy to use. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Soft and lovely to use ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The bristles of the brush itself are beautifully soft and feel lovely on the skin. They pick up the bronzing powder I use with ease, and because the brush is so nice and large it's easy to get a nice amount of powder spread across the entire brush. You can then simply sweep this over your cheeks and other parts of your face as you choose. It is also good if you want to apply some bronzer or shimmer powder to your shoulders or décolletage. The size of the brush is ideal for this. This is not for precision application of makeup - instead it is to give broad sweeps of powder, which is perfect for bronzing powders. ~~~~~~~~~~ In summary ... ~~~~~~~~~~ Overall I love this brush. I really like the design and find it very easy to use - the lovely soft bristles enable me to apply my bronzer as I like it. It is easy to store and it looks good - and the price is right too. Recommended.
The brush is part of the 17 range from boots, so is only available to buy from here. The brush comes in a small plastic packet to protect it; this opens easily and can be used to store your brush. I purchased this brush as I also purchased the bronzing rocks at the same time and thought that this was the perfect brush to apply the product with. The brush isn't a bad price at £3.29 and I didn't mind spending this on the brush. The brush has a plastic handle which has 17 in gold on the top of it. It then has a gold metal ring in which the bristles for the brush come out. The brush is a light brown colour and the bristles feel very soft. The bristles are quite big and puffy which makes it perfect for applying bronzing pearls or shimmer powder. I have used the brush a few times with my bronzing rocks as because the brush is large it picks up plenty of product after swirling it around the pot once. The product is then easily applied by swirling the brush over your face. The bristles to the brush are very soft and gentle on my face. I find that the brush gives me just enough coverage when applying products, without the need to apply again. The brush is strong and I imagine it will last quite a while. To keep my brush in good condition, like all my other make up brushes I was them regularly using a facial soap and leaving them to dry naturally. This brush takes a bit more washing as it's quite bushy; how-ever once it's dried it look just as good as new and perfect for using again and again. I give this product 5 out of 5 stars and would highly recommend it to others. (review also on ciao)
