Cutex Nourishing Nail Polish Remover
by helenc72 I paint my nails quite often and usually end up using a nail varnish remover about twice a week on average when I change the colour on my fingers. I use it on my toes slightly less often. I had been using a really cheap nail varnish remover for a while and my nails were getting a bit weak on occasion and had sometimes snapped, so I ... thought that it might help if I changed to a better nail varnish remover. I have bought this one a couple of times now. I picked it because Cutex is a well known brand for nails and I was also enticed due to the "nourishing" claim. The nail varnish remover comes in a bottle, similar to most products of this type. The bottle is a slightly see through white, not completely clear but it allows you to see how much is left inside. It has a purple screw top cap and quite a narrow opening at the top. It contains 200 ml of nail varnish remover. To use this I just put a cotton pad on top of the bottle opening, then tip some liquid out a couple of times. I find that one pad soaked in nail varnish remover in this way is usually enough to take the nail varnish off one hand. If the colour is a particularly bold, dark or hard to remove one then sometimes I would need a slightly bigger quantity of this remover on a couple more cotton pads. The bottle lasts a long time, I would say a few months for me. I do find that it is effective and gets the nail varnish off efficiently without me needing to rub and struggle with it too much. It makes it a very quick job and it works well on most of my nail varnishes. A couple have been a bit stubborn to remove with this, such as one Models Own gold glittery polish which was really difficult to remove, but I think it was more a problem with that nail varnish rather than this remover, as I have loads of different shades from different makes and most come off with ease using this remover. I also sometimes use a tiny bit of this to tidy up my nails after painting if I have been using a nail varnish which is more difficult to apply and has caused any messy bits. I pour a bit of the remover into the cap, get a cotton Q tip, dip it in, then use this Q tip around the edges of the nails to get any colour off the skin. This works quickly and easily and it hasn't irritated my skin. The smell is not the most pleasant, as you can probably imagine. All nail varnish removers seem to have a similar scent. It does not overly bother me but you do notice if you use it, leave the room and then come back a couple of minutes later that tell tale scent is lingering. My dad hates this smell and moans about it if I use the nail varnisher remover in the living room or around the house. As for the nourishing claims, well I was sceptical that any nail varnish remover would really care for and nourish nails as they are supposed to be quite harsh and strip the colour away. This claims to have vitamins and moisturisers as well as a nail whitening formula. I do think it is having some effect, as I do find the tips of my nails look quite a bit whiter since using this and it has made me happier to just put a clear varnish over my natural nails, as they look quite healthy. I have also hardly had any nail breakages, peeling or splitting or any problems with weakness. I have to point out this is definitely not only due to this nail varnisher remover, as I have been regularly using a Sally Hansen hardening and strengthening base coat, but the nail varnish remover obviously is not having a negative effect and seems to be keeping the nails looking good. I am quite happy with it and I would definitely be willing to buy it again. I might try some of the other varieties from Cutex too or some other non-Cutex nourishing or whitening nail varnish removers just to try and compare, but as far as I am concerned this one does do the job. Cutex Nourishing Nail Polish Remover
by Sara1304 Im usually one that buys cheap nail varnish removers and never bothered with the expensive ones but as my nails got weaker and drier, i decided it was time to switch which brought me to Cutex, nourishing. I picked it up from Bodycare which is a cheap pharmacy store for £1.30 but i know in Boots/Superdrug it is priced at a little bit ... more. Other products in this range included 'Acetone Free' and 'Strengthening'. I proceeded with the 'Nourishing bottle'. The bottle itself is a decent size of 200ml which is pretty average for nail varnish remover. It is a see through bottle which i always love as you can tell how much you have left! The design is simple yet informative and tells you everything you need to know about the polish remover. However, i was dissapointed with the lid as it broke off after a few uses for me so now i have to screw the top bit on and let it balance, not good if it spills over! This could be down to a one off bottle, but it definetly dissapointed me as this happens with the cheaper options too. Onto the remover.. I regularly wear nail polish, i never have none on! So i know a good remover when i see one. It applied easily to cotton wool and with one wipe across my nail it started to come off already, compared to the hard scrubbing of cheaper removers. Just after a slight bit of movement up and down, the polish was completely removed. I personally had no reaction to the formula and found it smelt very nice, not like a usual strong smelling remover, just quite sweet. Once i had removed all of my nail varnish, my nails were left smooth and full of moisture. They looked healthy and ready for some more nail varnish! After using this product for a few weeks i can say i wont be going back to cheap remover. Also, my nails had a healthy shine and feeling to them, along with the strength that seemed to of improved. An all over winner! I've barely used any as it only requires a small amount a time! Read the complete review |

Cutex Ultra Cleansing Nail Polish Remover
by pink_glitter I used to always buy the cheapest nail polish removers available however a few months back I tried ASDA's own brand nail polish remover which was absolutely horrendous, so had to switch to something else. As my local ASDA only stocks their own brand or Cutex, it was Cutex that I chose and I have been buying it ever since. They make a ... wide range of polish removers, but the one I am using is the Ultra Cleansing nail polish remover. This comes in a small bottle which is frosted plastic through which you can see the blue liquid. The lid is a simple screw top and the opening is the same width at the bottle. The nail polish remover is enriched with multi-fruit acid, green tea extract and vitamin E, however the bottle does not specify what benefits these ingredients have for the skin or nails. It is described as ultra-cleansing which is perfect for me. If my nail polish chips I have a tendency to just add another coat of the same colour over the top, so by the time I come to actually remove the polish I can have many layers on there! Like a lot of nail polish removers, this one smells very strong. It is not too unpleasant, it just has a very strong chemical scent. To use, I simply place a cotton wool pad over the opening of the bottle and soak the pad. I then find I just need to gently rub over the surface of my nail to remove the polish. There is no manic scrubbing as there often can be with cheaper brands! I find the product to be very effective at removing all nail polish, even when I have applied many layers. It is also very effective at removing glitter nail polish, which I have found in the past to be quite stubborn. The only problem I have found with this nail polish remover is that if I have been wearing a dark colour and my nails have become slightly stained, this will not remove any staining, despite it's 'ultra cleansing' name. I recently wore the same navy blue polish for a week and a half and when removing it, I found I had a bluish tint to my nails despite having applied a base coat. Unfortunately this stuff wouldn't get rid of the staining so I ended up painting over them in another colour. In terms of caring for my nails, whilst I don't think I have seen any major benefits to my skin, nails or cuticles since using this, I haven't noticed any negatives in this area either and it's certainly not as drying as other brands I have used. A 200ml bottle of this costs £2.20 from Boots or £1.98 from ASDA. On the whole I'm pleased with this product and will continue to buy it. It doesn't dry out my nails and it gets rid of most polish quickly and effectively. It's a shame it doesn't remove staining to the nails, but I can live with that as everything else about it is so good. Read the complete review |
