The Body Shop Eye Lash Curler
by katykicker With regards to my make up I love nothing more than making my eyes really stand out. As a wearer of glasses and contact lenses I feel that my eyes are my best feature of my face, regardless of which type of eye-wear I am wearing. If I am at work I often wear glasses and if I am heading out for an evening out I often wear contact lenses. ... I like to wear lots of eye shadow, thick eye liner and lots of mascara to give maximum benefit to my eyes. My eye lashes, naturally, are fairly thick and long but I like to add a nice curl to them bigger than I can achieve via natural methods. I picked up this eye lash curler from The Body Shop when shopping online and the price of it was £5.00. I did have a half price voucher when spending over £50 so I really only paid £2.50 for this plus postage of £2.95 I believe (for all my items). These curlers are similar to others that I have used in the past. The bottoms of the two handles have plastic padded parts that you pull together and then the curling parts come together, with the bottom part rising up, to curl your eye lashes. I find this very simple to use and it takes just a few seconds to press together. The handles are fairly comfortable to use with a little Body Shop green soft part on the ends to keep my fingers from hurting and this curler is very simple to clean too if need be. There is 'The Body Shop' on the top curling part of this lash curler just to let people know where it came from, well, should they nosy through your make-up bag like my nieces seem to do often! The bottom of the two curler sections that go together to curl your lashes has a little soft cushion on it and I did get another one of these free but I seem to have misplaced it now. The cushioned part on these curlers is soft, comfortable and hasn't become hard or peeled away like other pieces on curlers that I have used in the past. I always use these eye lash curlers before I apply mascara, as you are supposed to, and I find that I have minimal problems with eye lashes falling out perhaps losing one lash every few weeks or something like that. It isn't a problem really at all and is perhaps just a lash that was already loose. I certainly don't have any bald patches or problems from using this curler for prolonged periods of time. I never used these on lashes that have mascara on as I find that this increases the chances of ruining my look and also pulling some of my eye lashes out, I am not really sure why. These lash curlers manage to curl my eye lashes almost from root to tip. I am really pleased with the look that is achieved and I find that my lashes appear thicker and longer when I apply mascara after using these curlers. I also use the curlers when I am trying to achieve a natural look by just using these instead of mascara and then applying a light lip tint, some blush and some ivory foundation. In general I am really impressed with these eye lash curlers. My eye lashes look fantastic and these curlers definitely contribute towards that. The cushion part where my lashes are curled is still looking almost as good now as it did when new and this is probably because I don't apply much pressure when curling my lashes as a minimal touch is enough to curl them and then apply some mascara to hold the curl in place for longer. My lashes appear more fanned out and more curled thanks to these curlers. 5/5 stars from me! Read the complete review |

The Body Shop Eye Lash Curler
by alfiepeaches As soon I really started getting in makeup I found that my eye were my favourite feature to play around with, especially my eyelashes. I really wanted more curl to my lashes and had people recommend me eyelash curlers all the time. I decided to buy a cheap pair as I wasn't expecting them to work that well so I didn't want to the waste ... the money. I instantly fell in love with the effect I could achieve from using eyelash curlers and started looking for a better quality pair. I went through a few pairs before coming across this pair of eyelash curlers in The Body Shop. I found with most pairs the little rubbery bit that cushions and curls your lashes was always really hard and dried up too fast making my eyelashes bend/fold in an upwards right angle rather than a curl shape. I picked up The Body Shops own version for £5, which was slightly higher than the prices I normally paid but was willing to spend a little extra as I thought this would achieve a better look. The curlers differ from others as the handle part is two plastic pads you push down together instead of the usual scissor handle. 'The Body Shop' is inscribed along the top of the metal part that goes above the lashes and the handles have a squishy green bit on them for your fingers. They also come with a spare jelly/cushion bit but is kept in a small plastic bag instead of being clipped to the curlers like others. This keeps it really soft and doesn't dry out. When put into the place is goes it is kept there nice and sturdy and doesn't fall out like other pairs I have had does. When I use eyelash curlers I heat them up for a few second using my hairdryer (wait a few more seconds though before using or you could burn yourself) and place them over my lashes. (I use them before or after mascara depending what look I want, usually after if I'm going out for the night for a longer lasting 'oomph' look!). These Body Shop curlers manage to curl pretty much all my lashes too, I find previous ones I have used sometimes miss the very end ones or only catch the ends. The jelly bit that curls the lashes is very soft, and the groove from the metal bit that curls doesn't show for quite a while. When it does just change to the other jelly bit or you will get the right angled curl inside of lovely curly curl lashes! I don't know if you can buy replacements of these parts I tend to just buy a new curler to be honest but I bet you can find an ebay seller or something? I find the curlers really easy to clean when I've got mascara on them from using them after (I know some people are against using them after though...) and use a cotton pad with make up remover. If you don't clean them the curlers might pull out the odd lash when curling. I think these Eyelash curlers are amazing and offer really good effects at an affordable price and they last forever even with almost everyday use. I have no problems using them and think they give a better finished look than any other curlers I have used and last for a longer too. Read the complete review |

The Body Shop Almond Nail and Cuticle Treatment
by AbsintheFairy I enjoy shopping at The Body Shop and always take advantage of the special offers and discounts that they have on regularly. That was how I came to purchase the Almond Nail and Cuticle Oil Pen. At full price it costs £7 but I paid, on estimate, £3-34 which I feel is much more reasonable! This pen is part of the Almond hand ... range which also includes a hand cream, a hand wash and an intensive hand butter. As the name suggests, it is pen-like in appearance with an angled lid that comes off to reveal a brush very like the concealer brush you get with Touche Eclat and similar products. The pen has the almond range colours of cream and light brown to fit in with the rest of the range. The pen is described as a two-in-one pen which "softens cuticles while caring for dry, brittle nails". It contains sweet almond oil, Vitamin A and Vitamin E, and Community Fair Trade soya oil, Community Fair Trade olive oil and Community Fair Trade beeswax. The soya oil comes from organic, non-GM soya beans grown in southern Brazil via traditional farming methods. This provides a regular income for the Capanema farmers of the area. It's good to know that The Body Shop are still maintaining an interest in their ethical heritage even though they are now owned by L'Oreal. The pen is supposed to be moisturising and is meant to tidy cuticles. To use, you are meant to twist the cap to dispense the oil and brush it onto your cuticles. You should then put the cap back on and using the tool gently push down your cuticles. It is described by The Body Shop as the second step in their Almond hand care regime: presumably the first step is washing and the third is moisturising. The oil has a pleasant almond scent, which however is very subtle and easily masked by a hand cream. The oil has the general texture and consistency of baby oil; it can be slightly greasy so I stuck to using the pen at night time. It was easy enough to apply the oil and rub it in. I then used the end of the lid to push my cuticles back. I found this quite difficult as the end was so big. Most cuticle tools I have come across have been much smaller. In the end I gave up doing this. I applied my regular hand cream (usually Body Shop's Hemp Hand Cream) after applying this oil. The pen lasted for around two months before suddenly running out. One bad thing about it is that there was no warning of this - there is no way to tell how much you have left. Ultimately, I found that this product didn't actually do anything. My cuticles and nails didn't seem to be more moisturised or in better condition. Maybe this was because I only used it once a day - perhaps I should have used it more often. However, I couldn't do this as it was slightly greasy. In addition, the lid didn't really work to push back my cuticles, as it was too big. I can't really recommend this product as it didn't do anything for me. I have read good reviews though so maybe it works for some people - just not for me! In fairness it isn't too expensive if you use a discount code or voucher so it might be worth a try. Read the complete review |
