I am always buying combs as I am a fan of teasing my hair and I just couldn't find one that would give me the look I wanted and that my hair would stay in place. I love AVON products and I regularly buy things from the brochures - this time I went for the Hair Comb and the majority of the time AVON have offers on a lot of their products and this one was only 99p which I find is a great price for combs and you can normally buy sets from shops for the same price. The comb is multi functional and has 2 sides and a tail comb as the handle. The great thing about this comb is that you can do so many things with it - you can use the comb to detangle, style, and backcombing your hair and the tail for sectioning your hair - 3 pieces for the price of one. The comb is a perfect size to just pop in your bag and take it with you.
Up until a few weeks ago I only owned two hair combs, both of which were incredibly cheap looking and flimsy, not surprising really since I bought them from poundland (Initially a set of five but who knows where the other three went). When flicking through the latest Avon catalogue I noticed this Advanced Techniques styling comb on offer for just 99p (normal price £4.00) so added it to my order and eagerly awaited my delivery.
The comb came packaged in a simple clear plastic slip, there was also a small leaflet enclosed which gave some general information and warnings in various languages.
The comb itself is black in colour and made from strong thick plastic, it feels strong and robust, I can really see it lasting me for quite sometime. The handle has "Advanced Techniques" written across it in silver lettering, unfortunately this is already beginning to fade a little and I imagine the writing will disappear altogether in the not too distant future. Still, this is a purely cosmetic problem that in no way effects the quality or usage of the comb itself.
I absolutely love this comb and even though I have only had it a few weeks I wonder how I ever got along without it, it is such a multi functioning piece. One side had thick wide teeth and I tend to use this side for combing my wet hair and teasing out any tangles and knots, it works brilliantly at doing this. The other side is more like a regular comb with thinner spaced teeth, I tend to use this side to get a more precise style or look and create a nice finish. The teeth are very strong, they do not bend or move during use and I have no worries that they will snap or become warped. The bottom of the handle is pointed (not so pointy its sharp but still be careful!), this is really helpful for dividing hair into sections or for getting a straight parting in the middle of my hair.
Avon enclose a leaflet leaflet inside the plastic slip warning that:
"Certain hair products may react with the finish on your advanced Technique brush or comb. It is recommended that you ensure your hands are free of hair product before use"
I use quite lot of hair products and apart from the deterioration in the lettering on the handle I have not noticed any other problems with the combs finish. However, just to be on the safe side I do try to keep my hands free of products whilst using the comb, although this can be a pretty difficult task. I also give the comb a quick wipe over every few days just to keep it looking in tip top condition.
I would certainly recommend this product to anyone with long hair looking for a strong quality multi functioning comb, especially at the bargain price of 99p.
