=Avon All Over Kabuki Face Brush=
I love make up, ok confession over, since I hit 40, I have been changing my make up range and trying different products, and foundation was one of these. I purchased a Avon Mineral foundation powder, and I saw the brush advertised with it, (at additional cost) but in for a penny in for a pound.
=Price and Availability=
Prices do change within Avon, when I purchased my brush, I paid £6 for it. You can order direct from the Avon website (although there may be postal charges) or direct from your Avon rep.
I was a bit surprised as the brush looked quite small, it is about 3 inches in length, the bristles are very chunky, and are about an inch or so in length. The base is black in colour and has the name Avon on the side of the brush.
At first I will say I was worried about the brush, as it just did not seem long enough to hold, but I was proved wrong, and with the chunky nature of the brush, I found this easy to grip, comfortable to hold, and using it with the foundation, it just seemed to work like a treat, the foundation was spread out evenly over the bristles, without being overloaded.
Applying the foundation, i was really surprised that a little went a long way, as I found that the foundation had a layering effect, the bristles were soft to my skin, and felt gentle, almost like I was being tickled. I really noticed a big improvement and got an even coverage of the powder.
What I did like about the brush was that the base was flat, so that during the time of resting, it stood upright without having to worry about the mess from the bristles.
It stored easily in my make up bag, it took up less room than I thought it would.
=Would I recommend=
I would highly recommend this brush, it really does improve the application of the powder foundation, compared to my previous efforts, (more of a disaster), I really feel now how I ever managed without one.
I do have to confess that I have used this brush with over brands of mineral powder and it works as perfectly with them.
When I bought my Avon mineral foundation powder and didn't quite like my usual foundation brush to apply this foundation to my face, I decided to buy the recommended Avon Kubuki brush to apply my mineral powder to see if it worked much better and easier to apply the foundation. I looked checked the website and then decided to check Ebay and I bought it cheaper from Ebay.
The brush is quite a small one and only measures approximately 3 inches in length. I wasn't too sure when I saw the length of it when I first took it from the packaging. It has a small base which is quite a chunky one and the bristles are quite long. The bristles are extremely soft and black. The base is also a black colour with the name Avon on the side of it. I love the feel of the bristles, they don't feel rough on the skin while applying the powder to my face and they also don't scratch my skin. They just feel really soft and comfortable.
It is very easy to get a good grip of the small handle base and very comfortable to apply the powder too. I find the bristles do a very good job of picking up the mineral powder and the powder remains on the bristles really well and much better than I imagined when I purchased this brush.
I can definitely see why this brush is recommended to be used with the mineral powder because it works a treat for blending the powder onto my skin and gives a really good coverage. It works far better than my usual long handled foundation brush that's for sure. I thought the handle would be a problem for holding to apply the foundation but I was definitely wrong and it is really good to hold and I am very pleased I bought it.
The brush can easy stand on the base when you want to place it down, the base is flat and the brush sits firmly on a flat surface. Also because it is quite a small brush it can easily fit inside a make up bag and certainly doesn't take up much space compared to my other larger brushes.
I think this one is a good sized brush to take on holiday or for an over night stay. It weighs very little and is very lightweight. Even though it is lightweight, it still is a good weight to apply the mineral powder. It isn't a flimsy brush like it looks from the photographs. It is far better when seen in real life. I was amazed how well this brush worked its magic for applying powder foundation. It works a treat for blending and buffing the powder onto the skin without it feeling too rough or scratchy.
I absolutely love this little brush and wished I had come across it far sooner. I think it is a good quality brush in my opinion. I paid just £4 including postage from Ebay but it is priced at £6 from the Avon website plus postage. So I bought a real bargain buying it from Ebay and for a brand new brush too. I think if you are lucky enough to have an Avon representative visit your home you can buy it without paying the postage price. I don't have a representative so I bought mine cheaper from Ebay.
I think if you are wanting to buy a new foundation brush and wear mineral foundation powder of any brand, but especially Avon powder I think this brush would be ideal to apply you brand of powder. I don't think you would be disappointed in the feel of it or the results it gives for blending and buffing the powder onto your skin. I also think the size would be ideal too for your make up bag.
It is a nice trendy looking brush and quite funky looking. I love the name of it Kabuki and also think this name suits the brush extremely well too in my opinion. Don't be put off by the size of it because you will be amazed how well this brush works for applying mineral foundation powder onto the face. Gives fab results with little effort needed for blending the powder onto the skin.
I will most definitely buy another one of these brushes when my current one needs replacing and I highly do recommend it to others to buy and to maybe shop around for it if you don't have an Avon rep visit your home.
Also appears on Ciao under my username pinky50.
i give this brush 5 stars.
Thank you for reading my review and I hope it has been of some help.
Small stubby brush.
Round black base - 1 inch across and 1 inch tall.
Brush head is black bristles - 1.5 inches tall and the head is 1.5 inches across.
£6 full price but I got it as a free gift with some mineral make-up. Not listed on the Avon website at present.
Also on sale on Ebay.
Kabuki? Apparently it is a style of Japanese drama. Kabuki brushes are now sold by many cosmetic firms and were probably named because the performers used thick stage make-up.
Anyway this brush came free when I ordered some mineral foundation, so it was a bonus. I had heard that it was a small brush - but I was still surprised when it arrived - wrapped in a cellophane sleeve and looking minute. It seemed odd to me because it does not have a handle as my other brushes do.
I have used mineral foundation before but have always used long handled brushes. To begin with this was very difficult to get used to as it felt like you were using only half a brush. However I soon got used to it and it does put the mineral foundation on nicely.
The brush part is good quality bristles and picks up the minerals well. Unlike other reviewers on the Avon website I have not had any bristles shedding or found it hard on my face at all - in fact it felt no harder in texture to me than my other brushes, so perhaps the brush has changed slightly since these older reviews were written.
Every few days I wash this quickly with some baby shampoo and rinse under the tap - then I dry it a bit in a towel and put it on my radiator and it is ready for the next day.
This is a very dinky sort of brush and would be great to carry in your make-up bag for daily touch-ups as it is so compact. It would also be suitable for blusher.
I am pleased with my dinky brush for free but I do not think I would pay £6 unless I especially wanted a compact brush for travel - if I was buying one at full price I think I would prefer one with a handle - though you soon get used to it. Once you pick up the mineral foundation on the brush the best way I have found to apply it is in swirling circles.
4 stars - a nice brush but can be awkward to hold.
===Would I Recommend?===
I have a set of long handle brushes that I couldn't live without; they come in a big brush holder, that folds out flat. It looks like the things chefs have to hold their knives. Anyway, these brushes are fine when I am at home and getting ready. If I have to do my makeup on the move or at a friend's house, they are not very practical. Since starting to use a foundation brush, I couldn't return to the sponges I used to use. I needed an alternative to my long handled brush for ease of use while away.
Looking through the Avon catalogue, I saw this beauty and thought this would end all my troubles. £2 was a bargain (or so I thought) for a brush with no handle. When it arrived it was a lot smaller than I had thought it would be. It is 3 inches from the base to top of the bristles, having complained about its size, what they say is true, good things really do come in small packages!! I use bronzing pearls and this brush works very well with these, as well as any kind of powder foundation. It fits nicely in the palm of your hand and allows for a fluid stoke around the face. I tend to apply powder in a circular motion and this brush copes excellently well. I am glad I bought this, it fits in make up bags with ease as well. Some of the bristles have fallen out but it is still in working order and it does get used a lot.
The bristles are quite soft so it is perfect for powder application, if they were ant harder they would hurt when you used them, very good brush. Well done Avon.
I bought the Avon Kabuki brush when it was on offer for the princely sum of £2. The brush itself is around 3 inches in height and is very stubby and sturdy compared to a typical bronzing or powder brush. I believe the Kabuki style brushes are meant to mainly be used with the mineral powders that have sprung up in recent years and that was the main reason I decided to purchase this brush. The stubby and sturdy bristles allow you to "buff" the powder onto your face very finely and allow you to build up coverage of the mineral powder. The bristles are firm but flexible and really do allow for buffing the powder onto your face, unlike a typical large bronzing brush.
I have found the brush to be really good quality as per all the brushes I have bought from Avon in the past, I really don't know how firms such as MAC can justify prices such as £20+ for the same brush when in all honestly they don't do a better job than these cheap but high quality Avon brushes. As I said the bristles are firm and they aren't quite as soft on your face as a bronzing brush or blusher brush would be but they aren't really supposed to be (otherwise they can't do their buffing thing!). I think the design of the brush is fine but could take some getting used to with the small handle rather than the long handle of typical brushes.
I feel no need to replace this brush yet as none of the bristles have come loose and it is still in perfect condition. If I did however need a new kabuki brush, I would definitely buy this one from Avon, even not on offer it is a brilliant price at £6 and way cheaper than other brands.
I actually purchased this brush by mistake not realising how small the brush was I knew I needed a new powder foundation brush and as this was on sale at £2 I decided to purchase it. The brush is very small, tiny in fact and so when I received it I nearly sent it back but decided I would give it a try and I have been rather impressed. It is around half the size of my usual powder foundation brushes but I find it is the perfect size to hold in my hand to apply foundation and the large end means it is very easy to hold even when my hands are still moist from using other products. I find as it is small it means I have more control over it and create a better finish.
I find this is perfect for blending in powder foundation as it only holds a small amount at a time it is easy to work it into the skin and produce a really good finish. I tend to dab it in the foundation and then tap it to release any excess which is never a lot and then start applying the foundation to my face. You do need to keep dipping the brush in the powder and reapplying to the face but I find this a better approach to applying my foundation anyway as it means I can build the smooth finish I want without ending up with too much on my face.
What I like about this is it does not shed a lot meaning that even though I have had it for over a year it is still as full with bristles as when I first purchased it and other than my Clinique brushes I find this a major advantage over similar products. It did shed a little the first few times I used it and I was a little put off as it left the bristles on my face which is not a good look but after I had used it two or three times it has remained intact. I also find that the bristles are very soft when they are gliding over my face and not at all scratchy however they are strong enough to hold the product on the brush which again is a problem I have had previously.
The bristles pick up powdered foundation perfectly and it holds the product firmly on the brush so the entire product reaches my face without falling off and it is very easy to pick up the right amount of foundation without overloading the brush. This also means it does not ruin my foundation by breaking it to pieces while I am adding the foundation to the brush as it is very light and picks the powder up gently.
Although I mainly use this as a foundation brush I have used it to apply blush before and it works just as well.I do like a blusher brush to have bristles that are a little stiffer as I find them easier to apply my blusher correctly and this is maybe a little soft and this is why I do not use it all the time but for use now and again it is adaptable. This is perfect if I add too much blusher with my usual brush as I can buff it out a little and make it more natural by using my Kabuki brush.
To clean the brush I simply wash it under the tap for a few seconds and it comes up great without ruining the brush. I do soak mine in facial cleanser every now and a few of my friends think that is daft but I like to keep my brushes clean as I have sensitive skin and am prone to breakouts and this technique has always worked well for me. I also like to change my make up brushes one every six months and this lasts really well and I will be purchasing one again.
I would recommend this brush it is not the best on the market but for the price I paid I really cannot complain as it does the job it is intended for and lasts really well. You can purchase this from you Avon representative or online at the Avon store for around £6. I would wait until it is on offer as I picked mine up for around £3 which is a much more reasonable price and better value.
