Every time the letterbox flapped and a new Avon book was delivered I often found myself looking through and ordering even if I didn't need to buy anything. So much so that I recently told my Avon rep not to leave me anymore books as I'm just spending money I don't need to spend! One thing I ordered was this eye shadow brush, I got fed up with nicking the eye shadow applicators from some sets to use for my individual eye shadow pots.
Of course, being an Avon product, you can only order the eye shadow brush either online or from your local Avon representative. I think I paid around £4 for mine if my memory serves me correctly.
The brush is around 7 inches in length altogether including the bristles. The bristles are only about a centimetre and half in length then there is an inch of silver metal holding the bristles in place to the brush handle. The handle is black in colour and has a nice thickness, it has around the same diameter as a biro pen.
The bristles are very soft and don't require much prodding or brushing over the eye shadow to get enough onto the brush. When applying the eye shadow the bristles feel very soft against my eye lids. The bristles are shaped in a rounded shape so it makes it easy to apply over the majority of the eye lid in one clean swoop. After I use the brush I tend to give the bristles a blow to get rid of any eye shadow left on it so it is ready for the next use.
I've found with some cheap brushes that the bristles are easy to fall out but that is the total opposite to this brush. Although it is cheap, the bristles stay where they are meant to be and I haven't had any sticking out like they are about to fall off. So despite the appealing price, it still has a fantastic quality.
I'd definitely recommend this eye shadow brush from Avon. The price is great and the quality of the brush is amazing. The rounded bristles mean it is easy to get a nice coverage and they don't fall out either.
My sister recently became an Avon rep and so in my efforts to support her I bought a few products from the campaign brochure including this eyeshadow brush and some of their supershock eyeshadow pots. I am not a fussy make up wearer, and so my application of this is not professional in the slightest but for me it's perfect and does an amazing job!
Holding it, it is about the thickness of a felt tip pen, with a matte black body and a rounded end. At the opposite end we have the bristles of the brush which are quite short and a combination of ginger/dark brown brush hairs. The hairs are quite soft and have a gentle tip for smooth application. It came with a plastic covering which covers the bristles and so when I am not using this brush, I like to keep it covered to protect it when the brush is banging around in my (hardly used!) make up bag!
As I only own one small pot of eyeshadow (I know, what kind of woman am I?!) this is a brownish/goldish/glittery supershock eyeshadow from Avon which is quite powdery but of a smooth consistency almost like a cream. I find this brush is ideal as it is able to get in the pot and gather the eyeshadow without being too big to create a large messy sweep over my eyelids. It transfers the eyeshadow with precision and ease and doesn't blob it on too thick so I look like a clown haha!
Overall, it comes in with some change as I think I got this for £3 but since I won't be buying another and I'm no pro at make up I think this is reasonable and I can't quibble as it's all money going towards my sister's commission. I would recommend it as a nice eyeshadow brush, which works great with Avon range of eyeshadow.
There have been numerous iterations of the Avon eyeshadow brush over the years and I have found that out of all of the makeup brushes in the Avon range, these are really good quality and excellent value. They retail at around £5, sometimes cheaper and sometimes are offered free with other items as part of Avon special promotions. As with all of the Avon makeup brushes, I can't fault the eyeshadow brush in terms of quality, not just because it is reasonably priced but because I'd buy them over any of the more expensive brushes which I just cannot understand why they are so expensive !
The current iteration of the brush I believe comes with a smudger on one end and a brush on the other, however, the review for dooyoo is a brush-only review as that is what I have and that is what the picture shows. Previous iterations were grey and silver, currently the colour is black and silver and I think the brush looks really professional and wouldn't look out of place in a makeup artist's bag. The bristles are really nice and soft which makes it easy to blend eyeshadows and the colour and bristles don't drag across the sensitive skin of the eyelid. The bristles don't fall out, not even one has fallen out (that I've noticed) during the time I have had this product. It has lasted about 2 years so far and shows no signs of deteriorating in quality.
I highly recommend this brush as not only is it cheap, it is very cheerful, looks professional, does a good job and ticks all the boxes. I really can't see what you would achieve by buying a more expensive brush. I have several of these for different colours, one lights, one dark colours and they really do blend well. I would and have bought this product again.
---Why I Buy This---
Well all of us ladies need brushes.
We do quite often get free ones with our eye shadow sets, but they are usually either very small and short or else they have sponge applicator ends that invariably fall off. Also some eye shadows come with no applicators at all - so when I saw these nice long handled brushes on offer I decided to treat myself.
My brush is silver coloured. The current version is black.
Avon change these items constantly.
The brush is 6.5 inches long and the bristle section is 0.5 inches.
The current brush on sale is £5 but also on offer at present for £3.
I am not one to spend vast amounts of money on designer brushes, but I also like having something decent to put my eye shadows on with.
I was getting fed up of the small brushes that I was using that had come free with eye shadow pallets, and those sponge applicator things were worse than useless - as soon as I tried to wash them the sponge end bits would fall off.
When I saw these brushes on offer with Avon I thought I would buy one. It was so nice to have a brush with a long handle after all the short skimpy things I had been using.
The bristles have lasted really well as I have had mine for quite a few months now, and apart from a quick wash every week or so in some baby shampoo it gets no attention - I leave it to dry in the air on a towel with all my other brushes overnight and its ready for the next day.
The bristles are neither too soft nor, which would be worse, too hard. The end is large enough to be loaded with sufficient colour eye shadow to do your entire eyelid in one or two sweeps.
A good brush that will not break the bank.
---Would I Recommend?---
I bought this brush from the Avon brochure when it was on special offer. I think it was £6 when priced at full price.
The brush handle is sturdy and comfortable to hold. You can easily get a good grip of the brush without it slipping through your fingers. It's a good length too so you don't have to literally climb into the mirror to use it! The applicator on the brush is soft and strong. The bristles are of excellent quality, although I have lost a few of mine. However, the brush still looks new to me as you can't really notice the missing bristles. The brush is great for applying loose eyeshadow as it picks up the eyeshadow without having the shadow falling off and ending up on your cheeks. It gives a good finish without making the eyeshadow appear drawn on.
You can wash the brush if you wish in warm soapy water, just make sure you leave the brush to dry naturally as drying the brush could damage it. I wash my brush around once a fortnight to keep it in tip top condition. It doesn't take too long to dry, about an hour or so.
The brush doesn't irritate the eyes, in fact it feels really nice on the eyes. The brush is so soft and is a pleasure to use. I would certainly buy more make-up brushes from the Avon range.
A good quality eyeshadow brush from Avon.
When it comes to applying make-up, one of my favourite things to really focus attention on is my eye make-up. I love the fact that you can create so many different looks by just the way you do your eye make-up. My only problem was, that I never had a really good brush for applying eyes shadow as when you buy most, they don't come with an applicator brush. Even if they do, they can be really cheap which is why when I came across Avon's make-up brushes I just had to have the eye shadow brush as it was a good price and I wanted to see if it was any good.
This eye shadow brush is not the easiest to describe as it is very basic looking. I know there are a number of different eye shadow brushes being brought out by Avon all of the time, but I will describe to you the one that I actually have. I have the one which has quite an expensive look to it; it is long with a silver body and then has a rounded brush head at the top which is in a semi-circle shape so that applying eye shadow is not a problem.
MY BRUSH EXPERIENCE
When it comes to applying my eye shadow, I always use a range of colours to really create a good look. I normally start off with brushing the eye shadow all over the eye so the brush is very soft to skin. I did not find it at all irritating to my face and the brush was really smooth feeling and brushing on the colour was very straightforward. I then usually create a darker shadow on my eye lids but being a rounded shape; the brush really got into the top of the socket to create a darker shadow and again, didn't brush too much excess to ruin my eyes.
The job was easily done and it was easy to apply as it is a very light brush. The brush is also really easy to hold being quite a narrow shape to it, so it was perfect to lightly hold while I applied to my eyes. Another good thing about the brush is that if you tap it not too much powder stays on the brush so it evenly applies colour. It holds the eye shadow well on its bristles so that when brushing the shadow on it just seems very easy to do and evenly applies.
The bag actually comes with a plastic case as well which is good if you want to keep it clean and securely placed. This brush is not really long it is about just over 5 inches by looking at it, so just the right size for holding and putting on make-up. I think to make an opinion with this brush; I'd say it is perfect for anyone who wants a decent make-up brush for applying their eye shadow. It gives me more confidence to try looks that I haven't done as it makes applying the eye shadow a lot easier.
The brush is a very good tool to have as it just means your colour will go on lighter and a lot more evenly. I think every woman should have one of these in their make-up back as you never know when you will need help creating more dramatic eye shadow looks.
This brush is obviously only available to purchase from Avon. If you have an Avon representative you use regularly then you can place and order through them and this will cost you something like £5, I think I paid; you cannot buy Avon products on their website unfortunately which is a bit annoying really. The brush has always been good quality from the moment I purchased it and is still as good as which is not bad for the price I paid for the brush really.
If you want anymore information on Avon and their brushes, then you can go to http://www.avon.uk.com/ which gives you information on how to find your nearest representative and much more.
I recently invested in some new make up brushes from the Avon collection which, at the time, had a promotion on where you could get two make up brushes for £7 (individually this would have been £5). It was a bit of a bargain and it had been years since I had replaced mine so I ordered some.
This eyeshadow brush is perfect for people like me who are not exactly experts at applying make up. I do not claim to even be particularly confident in the application of eyeshadow, in fact eye make up in general is the one area I am prone to reapplying 3 or 4 times simply to make it look anything like professional!
This brush has a built in smudger which is very handy and being attached to the other end of the brush means you can quickly achieve the effect you are after without routing in your make up bag for the necessary tools. I think that the brush itself is a fine example - soft and nicely shaped, it makes pushing the eyeshadow where you need it remarkably easy and in combination with the smudger it is a great addition to any make up bag.
I love this brush as it has increased my confidence at applying eye make up and I have even attempted some more adventurous looks using it (youtube is incredibly helpful for videos showing how to do 'smoky' eyes - and this brush makes it achievable).
Avon products are generally very good quality in my experience, and this brush is no exception - you can pay a whole lot more for designer ranges and department store brands, but the value here is second to none and what you get is a brilliant, easy to use brush which gives great results.
AVON EYESHADOW BRUSH
I have a few eyeshadow brushes from Avon that I've collected over the time I've been an Avon rep. They are all really good quality and so I thought I would dedicate a review to being all about them.
As you can imagine, its just an eyeshadow brush so there isn't that much to say about it, but I will try my best to help you as a consumer to decide whether or not it is an Avon eye shadow brush that you want to buy.
Price is probably an important factor to consider and if you are going to get one from Avon although it might not be the cheapest it certainly won't be the most expensive eyeshadow brush you can find ont the market. Currently you can get an eyeshadow brush with a built in smudger, priced normally £5. There is currently also an offer on which is '2 for £7' so you could get this and something else. So buying an eyeshadow brush from Avon would be quite cheap.
For me, if I was thinking of getting a new eyeshadow brush then the next most important thing I would be to consider would be the quality of the brush, and how good it actually was.
This brush is really great, I mean it does the job and it has a fantastic built in smudger which is very useful to have on the end for when you want to blend or smudge your eyeliner (which apparently is the fashionable thing to do right now).
I've got a strong feeling this brush will last me years to come, and it seems great quality for such a good price I just have to recommend it. The built in smudger adds a nice touch that I haven't seen on many other eyeshadow brushes before.
This is a great brush and if you're looking for a new one this is the one.
Recently I purchased myself a lovely little make up bag from Avon. Mine was battered from being overused and was looking really shabby so I decided out with the old and in with the new and spotted the one I bought and was delighted when it arrived with a couple of Avon brushes inside of it. I own a lot of make up brushes, my favourites being Ruby & Millie ones and I own a couple of other sets and a couple of odd Revlon one's too. I really just love good quality brushes and I look after them and never use cheap ones or one's that come with sets. However I'm always up for trying out cheaper one's if the need arises but I do warn you I am critical as I'm spoilt with what I do own and because of that am very used to quality!
Now this brush usually costs £5.00 (unless on offer). It comes in 3 layers of packaging. An outer bag which tells me it is indeed an Avon eyeshadow brush, within that the brush is in a long plastic pouch which seals securely up and on the front in silver writing I'm told it is Avon and then the first time you go to lift out the brush it is wrapped in a sealed bit of plastic that you bin. I like the pouch to store the brush in and like the way it's all very secure etc to take out and about with me.
About 6 inches long slightly curvy black matt plastic forms the most part of it which is the handle. It's nice and slim, strong and not at all bendy. The brush is made from blonde and gingery coloured hairs and has a very natural feel and they are robust meaning no flaking and they are smoothish to the touch.
Using this though, nope it didn't set my knickers on fire I'm afraid. The handle being matt black plastic had a cheap feel to it and the hairs although looked smooth and felt nice on the fingertips do actually feel tickly when sweeping them across your eyes and and if you accidental use the tip of the brush rather than an underside it feels a bit rough too. Being quite a thick and wide brush I only find this ok for colouring in larger areas on my eyes as it's too bulky to shade with or say take colour into corners of your eyes as it's rather big though when doing larger areas I found that with powders it got colour to cling to it and not too much flaking went on as I went to work.
This is simply a powder eyeshadow brush and it's nothing one bit special. Is it worth a fiver? Not in my opinion no.I like te plainness of it but feel it's just a cheap brush really. I don't like the hairs themselves which are a bit too bristly for my sensitive eyes but it does a job and does it well I suppose. I'd just rather pay a bit more and get something a bit better that feels better to use!
This review is also posted on Ciao under this same username.
I bought this brush after seeing it in offer for £4, seeing that it was going to go up to £5, I thought i'd save myself £1 and buy it then.
I absolutely love this brush. It's not very good for precise application, but for applying a colour all over the lid, it's perfect.
I've been using this brush for a few months now and i really wouldn't change it. It's awesome. It picks up colour really well and applies great. I was a little afraid it might just pick up the colour but not apply, but it's really worked.
The brush itself is a wooden handle and quite large bristles. It looks smaller in the brochure. If you're looking for a brush to perhaps put colour in the crease or lower lash line, it's not the brush for you. If you're looking for a larger brush to apply a colour all over the lid quickly, it's perfect.
£5 for this brush is an absolute bargain as you see similar brushes online selling for over £20! Don't be put off by the fact it's an Avon make up brush, it's really worth every penny plus more.
I am sure that some people will feel that there is nothing worth reviewing in an eyeshadow brush, but actually there is. Make up brushes vary drastically in price from the ones that come in the 99p stocking filler sets you get in the chemist every year to designer handmade make up brushes that can set you back £25 for one small brush.
Avon have made a brilliant compromise between price and quality with this eyeshadow brush. It costs £5 which might seem a lot but I am very happy with the investment I have made in mine.
The handle of the brush is smooth and solid and the metal casing is firm and well turned in. This ensures that the brush hairs stay firmly in place through repeated use as well as frequent washing which is of course essential in keeping any make up applicator free from bacteria and germs. I especially like how soft this is, it feels just like real hair although I do not believe it is, and it makes eyeshadow application smooth, soft and easy.
At the moment you can purchase two of these for £7 which works out at £3.50 each. These really are worth investing in as they will last you for years to come and stay in excellent condition throughout.
