For the past twenty years or so, I've possessed long and beautifully manicured nails, which were always strong and healthy. However, during a long period of ill health last year I found that my nails became very brittle and flaky and as a result, they would easily peel and snap. Consequently, I needed to seek out a product that was easy to use as well as being effective and I decided upon Avon's Nail Experts Peeling and Brittleness Solver and this review discusses my experience with using it.
We are presented with 12 ml of product, which is contained within a transparent glass bottle identical to that of a nail polish. Whilst the bottle was presented in a box, there were no directions for use other than for the familiar recycling symbol together with the image informing us that the product should be used within 24 months of opening. What I found rather bizarre is that the inside of the box displayed a considerable amount of miniscule text, so believing the information to be the directions for use I had to carefully cut the box open.
I found this really frustrating, particularly as I had intended to keep the box for neatly storing the bottle. The information printed around the entire inside of the box was provided in a multitude of languages with the only English text informing us that the product helps nails to grow longer and stronger in 14 days and that eye contact should be avoided. I must admit that I'm not generally a fan of Avon products, as I have had so many disappointments over the years with products that have failed to meet their claims in addition to the fact that the brand is notorious for providing insufficient or no directions for use.
Careful consideration has clearly been given to the design of the lid where it offers an oblong shape, which allows it to be removed with great ease. I anticipated this to be extremely useful, as after a couple of months of using, these style of products, particularly those with a cylinder shaped lid, become a little messy with dried product, which makes them difficult to open. The brush is of a good size and I found that two strokes effectively covered each nail, as the soft bristles were sufficiently coated. The solver is identical to nail polish with both its consistency and aroma and one dip of the brush was sufficient for the fingernails of each hand. Whilst the solver gave off a pale blue appearance in the bottle, it initially offered a clear glossy and healthy effect on the nails and dried within just a few minutes of application. However, in less than two hours I noticed that the solver was peeling away from sections of my nails and I was able to place the edge of my nail underneath and easily remove the remainder.
Whilst I was pretty confident that my nails were grease and oil free prior to application, the results placed an element of doubt in my mind and I decided to reapply after carefully washing and drying my hands. However, the results were identical despite me not using any harsh chemicals or placing my hands in water for a long period of time. I would argue with Avon's claim that this product can actually resolve brittleness and peeling, particularly as the solver peels itself! I tried the solver again by adding a thin layer of top coat, but can't admit to being satisfied with this approach. As a result, I relied solely on a specifically designed hand cream, which was also suitable for strengthening nails.
For the reasons discussed above, I cannot recommend Avon Nail Experts Peeling and Brittle Solver, which receives only one star from me. At the time of writing it can be purchased for £5 either from a representative or online or you can purchase three products from the Nail Experts range for £6.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
Summary: A very disappointing nail product from Avon
