      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A must have for every lady!

After months of begging my darling husband for a mirror in our tiny studio flat he finally gave in. And boy did he come up trumps with this. A birthday gift from my darling daughter (of course purchased by my husband).

On first seeing the mirror I was slightly disappointed. After driving him mad, telling him how much I needed a mirror to see what I looked like and him telling me I looked great only to find out in the corner shops shiny glass that in fact I looked terrible, I had expected a long mirror in which I would see just how big my bottom looked.

Anyway I smiled and thanked him for the thoughtflness in my mind thinking what a doughnut he was for not understanding a womans need for a long mirror.

All this aside when I first applied my make up in this mirror I had a very pleasant surprise. It was simply the best designed mirror I had ever seen or had experience with. Ok so it didnt show me my whole body but it certainly showed me my whole face in all its ugly glory and boy did I look better after close inspection and adjustment of my eyebrows etc.

You see this is no ordinary mirror. It is two sided, one standard side and one magnifying side for all the close up stuff. Thats right so if you look into it you can almost see the pores opening right before your eyes. Not only that but it comes with a light. Just plug it in and switch it on and the surround lights up highlighting all the 'rough' areas, therefore makin it extremely easy to apply eyeliner, mascara etc. The only disadvantage of this mirror is the weight. It is extremely heavy for a small item.

This mirror is made by Babyliss and is widely avaliable in stores such as boots, and superdrug, also avaliable in larger tesco stores. It retails at around £29.99 but can be picked up cheaper when on offer. I can hear what your saying, this seems extortionate for a small mirror but as said before this is no ordinary mirror and certainly worth very penny even if paying full price. For all you lovely ladies out there this is a must have and you will not be disappointed. Even the lads will love this, my husband certainly did.

Oh and ladies, I got my full length mirror as well :)

An expensive mirror but extremely useful.

Now that I've passed 40 I've found that all kinds of strange things are happening to my vision. My close up vision is fine up to about 15 inches and then it all starts to blur, which makes it a bit tricky putting make-up on. It means I need to be very close to the mirror.

Then I was given this magical mirror as a gift. On one side it's a normal mirror and on the other side it's 3x magnification. The stand tilts and also swivels, which makes it easy to turn the mirror and adjust to a suitable angle. There's a light around the edge of the mirror, and a frosted glass surround which adds a diffused light effect. Altogether it gives a gentle, even light rather than a glaring one, which is fine for putting makeup on. The magnified side is great for making sure it's evenly applied. It's also quite scary to see every single blemish!

My husband was horrified when he looked in it and found hairs growing in all kinds of places that he hadn't noticed before! He quickly dashed off to get out his hair trimmer, and also started slapping on some Boots anti-aging balm for men!

The base has a satin brushed metal finish and non-slip pads underneath. There is also an on-off switch for the light. It's quite a modern attractive looking mirror which would look nice with any contemporary décor. There is just one drawback: although the base is quite heavy to help keep it stable, it's still inclined to wobble if it's not standing on something good and solid. I tried it on a tall lightweight drawer stand in the bathroom and decided that it wasn't safe enough as the stand can wobble when the drawers are opened. It's now in my bedroom on a heavy chest of drawers which doesn't move when the drawers are opened, so I feel it's safer there.

The Babyliss pure reflection designer mirror is around £48.00 at Boots or Amazon. It comes securely packed in eggbox style packing. This also has a spare lightbulb taped inside, so be careful not to accidentally throw it away with the packing.
