Whilst watching QVC at Christmas rather than buying Christmas presents for others I ended up treating myself to a lovely Bobbi Brown kit which included this brush with the long-wearing gel eyeliner. Bobbi Brown is a luxurious high-end brand available in some department stores, online and as mentioned above QVC. THE CLAIMS: * Easy to hold and control, this slim, tapered Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush creates a flawless line * The brush hairs are finely pointed and tightly packed for precise application. MY EXPERIENCE: Although this brush definately wasn't one of the things in the kit I was particularly excited about it's actually the thing I've got the most use out of! I use this brush everyday without fail, it's amazing! Before I was using the Maybelline gel eyeliner with the free brush that comes with it, the eyeliner is amazing but I hated those brushes, this one is so much better! Gel liner can be difficult to apply and this brush makes it so much easier! The handle is long and thin which definately makes things less fiddley. The bristles are fine and haven't frayed despite my over-use! In my opinion this is the most important thing when it comes to applying a gel liner as soon as the bristles fray it becomes impossible to get that neat, precise line and where the brush is so fine this helps to get right into the lash line and create a fine line which is much softer for a day time look. A brilliant brush which has earnt the following awards: * Best Brush Range, U Magazine Beauty Awards 2012 * Best Brushes, SHE Beauty Awards 2011 VALUE FOR MONEY: This brush retails at £22.00 and in my experience you get so much more from your make-up when you use good quality brushes, this brush has lasted very well, always cleans up as good as new and is definately worth the price.
I love using this eyeliner brush with my bobbi brown gel liner or any other gel liner to be honest. The brush is very dense and ultra fine at the tip so its perfect for winging out your eyeliner or creating different styles like dotting and flicking out to create false looking lashes. I've been using this brush for well over a year now and the quality really does show through because the brush is still like new! Even though it is very dense, it washes out very well and dries up really quickly whilst retaining its shape. I've never experienced any malting with this brush thus far and it is still very soft on the eye lids. I like the fact that the brush handle is long so that it gives you more control and grip for extra comfort when applying the liner. Overall this is my HG (holy grail) eye liner application product when using gel liners. I don't bother with the slanted liners because this gives you more freedom to get creative and try out different styles. I absolutely recommend it because even though it seems pricey for a brush at the beginning, it will last you for years to come!
I bought this brush a while ago at the same time that I first started wearing gel eyeliner. I was reccomended to buy this by a sales representative and although I wasn't really keen on buying it, I did. At first I felt a little like I had been forced into buying it however I really love it so i'm glad I did! I paid around £18 for this brush, which is branded as an ultra fine eyeliner brush. £18 is obviously alot more expensive than most eyeliner brushes, however I do feel like it is worth the price tag. I bought mine from John Lewis and it is available from a variety of other shops both in store and online. The phyiscal appearence of this brush is quite simple but it is quite elegant, despite the fact that it doesn't look a huge amount different to the other eyeliner brushes around, however it is a creamy ivory colour which is unusual as most eyeliner brushes are black or silver so it is a nice change. The brush is made of a lightweight plastic type material and it has the product name written on the side. There is a black band sort of thing around the nib of the brush which keeps them nice and dense. It is quite a long brush and is thin with a slightly curved middle, making it a very versatile brush and it is easy to grip and glide. The brush comes with a plastic lid which simply pulls off. This ensures that the bristles stay nice and neat. The brush is extremely dense and it is stiff with no loose hairs/bristles. The bristles are a browny orange colour and are really nice and soft. The brush hairs are finely pointed, so it's a very accurate eyeliner brush. This is extremely easy to use and the pointed tip makes application quick, easy and accurate. It picks up gel eyeliner well and distributes it onto the waterline very neatly and evenly, leaving a professional looking finish. It makes a little eyeliner go a long way which is good as it makes my gel eyeliner last much longer. The brush can also be used with eyeshadow, although I personally find it a little too small for my loose eyeshadows so only use it with my compacted eyeshadows as that way it picks up the colour better and it blends better with smoother, creamier eyeshadows rather than the loose, mineral type eyeshadows. This brush can be used to create different looks and can achieve a sexy, smoky eye look, or a simple, discreet au naturale look. I would reccomend washing this brush regulary because of how compacted it is and remember to disinfect it for hygiene reasons. I have washed mine countless times and it still looks good as new and no hairs have fallen out and the brush has not lost its shape. It dries well as well and does not hold the smell of disinfectent at all. Overall, this is the most accurate and gentle eyeliner brush that I have come across, it is so precise and gives such a proffesional, versatile look. I am not suprised at all that this brush has won an award and I would definetly reccomend it.
I never planned to purchase this brush when i arrived at a Bobbi brown counter one day. I went specifically for the longwear gel eyeliner which i had heard great things about. I always know that when i go to a cosmetics counter in a department store i will be talked into buying more than i had planned, as i believe anything the sales assistant tells me! She said i d need a brush to apply the eyeliner, and did i already have one. Before i knew it i was walking away with the brush and a few other products i hadn't planned to buy. At £20 it was an expensive buy and was started to regret it. However as soon as i got it home and tried it out, i m so glad i did buy it. Without the brush, applying the gel eyeliner would have been impossible for me as i didn't already own a fine eyeliner brush like this. The brush is quite stiff which allows you to perfectly apply the gel eyeliner. Some eyeliner brushes can be quite limp which makes it hard to get a good application. This brush was perfect as there were no stray hairs from the brush that messed up the application. I have found this before with cheeper brushes - stray hair cause the application to look untidy. Overall, if you are going to buy the gel eyeliner, make sure you buy one of these brushes aswell. Can be quite costly, but if you look after the brush properly by cleaningit regulary it will last a long time.
Due to getting some wonderful Bobbi Brown items for christmas I am going to work my way through reviewing them and I know them inside out I as have been playing with them non stop since christmas!. ===== Bobbi Brown ====== I have written in more detail about Bobbi Brown in another review so I don't want to repeat myself. I will just say that Bobbi is a respected makeup artist whose aim to make everyone look like themselves only better. Her brand of makeup is much sought after and in particular her brush collection. ===== The Brush ===== The design of the ultra fine eyeliner brush along with all her other brushes is sleek and natural, the brush is slim with a fatter middle which makes it easier to grip. The hairs are tapered to a slight point and the hairs are very tightly packed allowing precision application. The brush itself is very soft and has a velvet feel to it. The brush has a plastic cap to keep the brush from drying out and to protect it. =====How To Use The Brush ===== The brush is designed to be used with both eyeshadow and gel eyeliners. With gel eyeliner dip the brush in and remove excess on your hand, angle the brush so that it's pointing from the side and gently sweep the brush along your lash line in small brush strokes starting from the inner corner, this applies to eyeshadow also although you may find that making the brush slightly damp will give a better look with eyeshadow. You can also use the brush to soften and blend eyeliner pencil. ===== Different Effects ===== The versatile brush makes it easier to achieve different looks. For a daytime look it's best to keep to a simple line following the natural shape of your eye. For a more dramatic look or evening look, angle the brush again from the side and start with a fine line at the inner corner and increase the width from the middle and this will give you a more dramatic 60s look. To create sexy eyes still keep it to a fine line and just before you get to the other corner slightly flick the brush up to where your outer eyelash is. You may also find it easier to rest your elbow on a table when applying as this will keep your hand steady and due to the length of the brush this is easy to do. ====== Caring for your Brush ===== It is often overlooked but it is very important to look after your brushes not only to get them in good shape and make them last longer but for hygiene reasons. Bobbi Brown has a fabulous product that is a brush spray that you apply to your brush after use and it dries almost instantly, it costs £14.50 for the spray bottle. For a cheaper alternative you can wash the brushes in warm water and a mild 2 in 1 conditioner as this will clean the brush and keep the soft. ===== My Conclusion ===== I think that this is the best eyeliner brush that I have ever used, the way that the hairs are packed makes it sturdy to get a precise application but because it feels like velvet it's very soft on the eye area and does not drag the skin at all. The length of the brush and the fatter middle allows you to get a really good comfortable grip and to apply exactly where needed. I also found that I can get many different looks with the brush and have used it with gel eyeliner, eyeshadow and to blend pencil lines and it's worked on all. I appreciate that it's an expensive item at £20.00 however if you wear eyeliner a lot then it really is an investment and if you care for them they will give you a long service. It is also worth pointing out that even if you are new to using eyeliner with a brush it really is hard to make mistakes as the brush is so fine and really just glides on with very little effort. ===== Where Can I buy It ===== You can purchase Bobbi Brown products in most large department stores, online and on The Bobbi Brown website wwwbobbibrown.co.uk
Bobbi Brown Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush About £20.00 at Bobbi Brown but can be found cheaper other places I believe that spending money on good quality brush is a good idea as there is no point in spending so much money on make-up and then ruining it with cheap brushes. I always feel make-up goes on more flawless with brushes. The eyeliner I purchased from Bobbi Brown is a gel eyeliner that needs to be applied with a brush as there is no other way which is why I purchased this product. I feel this product is excellent and makes aapplying the make up easier as you are controlling the brush. The brush is very long which means its easier to apply and you can clean the brush frequently so it can be used again and again. I would definitely recommend this product. Its a little expensive but will last ages and make you make-up appear better and more professional.
